OneUnited is by far the WORST bank I have ever used. Unless you're in LA, depositing funds is a joke. I traveled across THREE states attempting to deposit a check in one of their partner ATMs. It took about 15 ATMs before one finally worked which was in Chicago. I have never had access to my money in a reasonable amount of time after deposit, it always takes like 10 days. Trying to speak to a representative is useless. It takes 20+ minutes EVERY TIME YOU CALL for someone to answer and give you useless information. Hmm...what else can I say, oh unless you only get checks under 1,500 mobile deposit is not an option. Overall I really, and I mean REALLY wanted to support a Black owned bank. But this ain't it chief. Trash excuse for a bank. Please do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. This is the worst bank ever. You will be better off with a prepaid debit card. These people have put a two week hold on my payroll check drawn on Bank of America because it's a new account. I've never had this issue with a new account with any bank or credit union. I have messaged, called, emailed and have now filed complaints since no one at this bank will respond and I can't reach a supervisor. I'm upset that I was gullible enough to trust them with my money and have learned a costly lesson. Do not bank with OneUnited, and unfortunately they are going to ruin the reputation for other black banks. Here I am trying to bank BLACK and it seems like they can't get it right. How is it that you decline a transaction and still send the funds to the merchant. Not once but twice and hold it for 2 to 3 weeks. It was fine when it happened the first 2 time because it wasn't much but $830 being held during a pandemic is ridiculous and I need to contact them for a transaction or authorization number that doesn't exist( no transaction went through on their end). I have opened an account with this bank and so far I've had nothing but great things to say. My only complaint about this bank is I don't have a branch that is fairly close to me but for whatever reason they don't have 24-hour customer care and I'm not sure when they're customer care actually open. I've had issues and I need to call the bank it was after 1 o'clock and I received a message saying that the offices are still closed. Overall I think it's a pretty good bank if anything changes with that I will definitely update this. read more

For the last 2-3wks I have yet to recieve any assistance to remove inaccurate late fees from my checking account. It OUB were to reverse the fees, I would still have money in the account which indicates the issue to begin with. I was on hold for nearly 2hrs and still didn't speak to anyone. If I could give this bank negative stars I would. I opened an account 4 weeks ago and have yet to receive a debit card. Not only are they closed on the weekends unlike every other bank in the universe, when you can call, it takes 30 minutes to get someone on the phone. When you finally do get someone, they're the rudest people I've literally ever spoken to on a customer service line. I've been hung up on numerous times and put you on hold without warning so I sit there and say "hello? hello? hello?" not knowing if someone is still on the line, and I don't want to hang up because then I'd have to wait another 30 minutes to talk to another rude representative. My business partner stated our account was fine earlier and we can get the business actively working a lot more. However, what a difference the afternoon can make and its all due to one call inquiry. As much as it pains me to give a bad review about a bank geared towards my people I have to keep it real. I'm not having a good experience with this bank. I have lost more money than I have gained since banking with One United from all of the ridiculous fees I get charged due to their poor management. I have set up text alerts to keep up with my account but the texts never come until days later to reflect what your account balance really is. So what's the point of having the feature? I do like the bank to bank transfers that I can do between my banks but due to poor management the bank does with depositing my money I don't get to use my money necessarily at the time I need to use it which then in turn causes me to incur overdraft fees because it hasn't been posted into my account on the day that it should. I have been with this bank for almost 2 years now but I think its time to let go. I tried my best to support a black business but I can't do it anymore. Its costing me too much. Until they can get better management....more features with online banking and 24 hour live communication then I can't be involved with them much longer. I would not recommend banking with One United. They are some trash my husband had 2 unauthorized transactions pulled from his acct and after they credited the acct they charged him again...mind you he definitely called the day before just to tell them to stop payment because this app was unauthorized they agreed and said they would email him with in the day they never did he called back the next day after begging charged 100 bucks again to speak to a rep who took the dispute personally giving back rude nasty comments we asked to be transferred to a supervisor and asked for her name and rep number she said she was the supervisor she refused to escalate the issue and then she hung up on him leaving the issue unresolved! If I'm calling customer service they hang up on folks then who do you call to get things resolved!? This is the third issue he has had since banking with you and it's why although I'm a member I will NOT be Telling ANYONE TO BANK WITH Them and I won't be putting my coins In There EVER! My gut said don't deposit anything and We will NOT be doing that anymore. I thought this was going to be a good thing... but it wasn't. We all know credit is worth more than cash and when I decided to purchase a home I was told I needed more credit. My loan officer suggested a couple of secured credit cards so I submitted and got two. A Discover and the Unity card from OneUnited Bank. Unity has been, by far, the worst financial experience I have ever had. I have had to call customer service a few times and all I get is blah. Not rude, just with the "I don't care" attitude. The website for the Unity card looks like it was designed as a middle school web project and navigating the site is a royal pain. There is no mobile app for the Unity Visa, nope.. not at all. There is also no way to pay your bill online, yeah, you read that correctly - it is 2020 and this company does not have a mobile app or payment app to pay your bill. You have to use your bank's bill pay, mail in a check or money order or pay with some weird company, I think its Western Union. The only good thing about the card is the fixed interest rate (as I am typing its 17.99) but even with that, it is not worth the loss of so many convenient features. I tried to hold on to it for a year, but I only lasted 8 months. There are so many other cards out there that make it easy for you to pay your bill and manage your expenses and the Unity Visa is not one of them. And we won't even talk about why it takes them THIRTY DAYS to return money that it only took them 30 minutes to take from you in the first place. I should have searched reviews before I signed up but I was trying to put money back into my community. NEVER.AGAIN. read more

This bank is horrible!!!!!!!! I opened this account with the $50.00. I tried to have my payroll check sent thru this bank. First, my card took forever to come. Then, my check would not post to this account. So, I called them and they told me to retry. Mind you I had already setup bill pay. Well, the bill came thru, but still no money and no card. When I finally got my card my account overdrawn by $200. The charged me 37.00 5 times. Then, I called to ask if something could be done and they credited me 37.00. WTF good does that do. I just checked my account and I am overdrawn 311.00 and I have yet to use the card. When I called and asked what could be done I was told nothing. I am fed up with this bank. My last straw was me having a lost debit card and it sucks that I already can't go into the bank. I called to report my debit card and they said they DONT SERVICE my CARD. I specifically bank with them so what do you mean? Then they transferred me to VISA that only transferred me back to my bank. This was the worst banking experience I've ever had. I was proud to support this black-owned bank but now I've warned everyone to stay away due to my experience. I started off my account with the $50 and planned to add more money to use it as an additional account. By the time I tried to use my card, I was embarrassed to have my card declined because the maintenance fees had taken all of the money. Then when I tried to close the account, it had $4 on it. I asked for a check but was told I had to go spend that amount before I could close the account. When I didn't spend that $4 in time, my account was negative. So, I had to transfer money back into the account, just to close it. This account ended up costing me money and frustration. The features are very limited, and the third-party apps to provide basic services were horrible. The customer service isn't very good either. They weren't rude, but they didn't try very hard to help you either. It takes a lot for me to leave a bad review, but people need to know, so they don't go through what I did. read more

So, I was initially super upset and ready to cancel my account with this bank due to a recent deposit I made on my account last week. I was provided horrible customer service multiples times and given the round around about my money for days. I had been happy and pleased with this bank up until last week but I had a chance to finally speak with someone with OneUnited who actually was able to assist me. I changed my recent post and rating about the company "only" because I spoke with Dannie Harden who is a saint from above. She literally changed my whole decision on leaving this intuition by simply "giving me a call and providing me with some useful solutions to my concerns". For those of you who do not believe that customer service is not a strong asset to help someone make a solid decision. Take it from me. Today, I was able to switch from being an upset customer to a pleased customer thanks to Dannie. Thank you once again for all of your help and support. If you want to ever make one transfers via Google Pay (Gpay) or CashApp, stay away from this bank!!! Honestly, I made several attempts on different days to send money via gpay and cash app--no suspicious amounts whatsoever, example a $50 or $100 transfer, and the bank declined such debit transactions on the first attempt every single time!! After a 3rd attempt to make the transfers, the bank deactivated my card. The fraud/card services department are not open on the weekends and therefore my issue couldn't be addressed and resolved until 2 days later! The bank falsely advertises on its telephone greeting that Walmart pay, Gpay...online money transfer services are available. This is largely contradictory based on my terrible experiences with attempting to make such DEBIT transactions. Again, stay away from One United Bank. There is something very suspicious in how I as a customer am never able to make such transfers without contacting the fraud department! I have business relationships with other banks and have never experienced such poor customer service or issues using a money transfer system. read more

Have you ever heard of a bank declining a dispute even when you show that you tried to cancel the transaction, and on top of that was you order has no type of tracking information? Did i mention the purchase was made mid August? How about having to wait the minimum 30 days to hear a response from the seller, but it can take up to 120 days? Never have i had these issues with any other bank. This bank is not set up like most banks are, by far the worse. Their automated service is a joke, it takes damn near 15 min just to get to someone. Thats after putting in your card number (which you shouldnt have to if you mobile number is the same as it is on file), you can talk as clear as slow as you want and you will still get sent to the wrong department. If you want to do a mobile deposit you have to wait 5 days for it to clear, regardless of amount. Even though they dont have banks around, you are still charged atm fees. DONT NO BANK WITH THIS COMPANY UNLESS YOU HAVE NO OTHER OPTION. read more

After 30 plus minutes of phone trees and transfers, the best they could do was have a "specialist" call me back in 1 to 2 business days. I tried to invest in this bank believing my experience could be nothing but positive. The total opposite of what I ever want to deal with, I have held an financial account since I was 15 yrs old. I have never in my years had a bank cause my a credit account to go 30days past due by rejecting to pay an account ( mind you my account has NEVER been 30days late since the day I openned it 4yrs ago) , NOT because the money was not in the account, NOT because I had the wrong account number, then failed to notify me that it was rejected. I find out from my creditor what happened, tried to call my bank early Saturday only to hear a recording we are closed with no hours of operation listed. O but wait it gets better had to wait until Monday morning talk to 3 customer service agents. The first one had an attitude( about my money), the second blind transferred me into a Supervisors vmail, finally the 3rd told me the supervisors are not in until 12noon because their in a different time zone & wait he MIGHT call me back to address my account in 24hrs . You might as well just set up your accounts to just give them money every month due to their high service charges to maintain the accounts as you will not receive any interest on funds you furnish your accounts with each month. The customer service are liars and gave me hell to close my accounts even after having the accounts just over six months. Even after successfully doing everything I needed to do to close the accounts instead of sending my full balance they sent me two letters asking me to stay with them, the account should have been closed but they still managed to deduct service charges for closed accounts. I had this bank for about 7 months in 2017. I expected for challenges due to the mission statement. I'm all for an unapologetically Black Bank! I just wish they had a actually branch in NYC. I've ended up closing my accounts due to not being able to go into a branch when need be. The nearest branch is in Boston. I hear Carved Bank in Harlem is not doing well. Maybe you all can try to merge? Or even Just expand and open at least One branch in NYC? I don't have negative things to say about customer service. I only dealt with the same 4-5 people and I like that. I did have an issue with my wife getting her bank card..(the bank cards are BEAUTIFUL and were always a conversation starter!) but after a bit of back and forth she did get it..the iOS app Stinks!! And could use a massive overhaul. Along with support for Apple Pay and the other digital card services. I will keep my eye on One United as i want to support the message..but until we are at least on the level(and we can do it we have a lot of talented people in tech and other industries) with other banks I can park my money here..I am considering opening a CD or Savings account that i don't use because the APR is FANTASTIC!! read more

Received notice from my Wells Fargo Bank of a $50 charge on my account from One United Bank. I disputed the charge as i have never heard of them before. Wells Fargo called them for me and conferenced me in on the call. These morons opened a fraudulent account in my name without even attempting to contact me. When i asked what all had been opened, charged and processed under my name they refused to tell me... a clear violation of federal law which grants me the right to ALL documents that are submitted in my name, ssn and dob. Beware this bank has not a clue what they are doing, what the banking laws are or... they are in on it. read more

I wanted to support this cause by opening an account... I only have a very small amount deposited... and from the start it's been terrible customer service on the phone... I can't support that... I literally was just put on hold for 30mins to find out why I was sent a new card and to activate it... your rep was awful... and the new card is STILL not activated so I'll be closing this account the end of the week. read more

They are only getting a one star because I cannot give them less. My husband and I started a joint account with them. I never received a card. We called after my husband received his and they claimed the were resending my card. 5 months later I still do not have one. It's also a pain to pay them, the only way to avoid paying a fee is to send the payment from our bank's bill pay system which takes 3-5 business days to get to them. It's 2020 and we can't pay our credit card online. Over the customer service and crappy payment solutions we called to close the card. We were then told that we could close the account but they will not use our deposit to pay the balance. We would have to pay our balance, still be charged interest and then we should get our deposit back in 30 days. The website claims that they are a black bank helping the community with building credit worthiness yet they are literally the most difficult to pay, manage or close! Wasn't hard for them to take the deposit though. Beware, before using this card. I'd go to Open Sky or Green Dot first if you cannot get a secured card from Capital One or another well known credit card company/bank. read more

My father and my highly educated and common sense cousin strongly advised me not to put funds in One United Bank. In January 2017, because of the "crab mentality" reputation African Americans have of pulling the ones trying to make it out back down in the bucket, I joined the bank black movement--Crenshaw branch in California. My first experience with customer service was negative regarding an online transfer issue. Don't even think the young lady is aware that she comes across as rude, uncaring, lazy, unacknowledged and unhelpful. A supervisor never did return my call, nor did I get a response to the letter I wrote to One United Bank Customer Service Manager. It took half the year before the welcome package promised new bank customers was mailed to me. (I'm taking that as a good sign of the bank being overwhelmed with new customers.) My second contact with customer service was with a more professional and knowledgeable young lady who went above and beyond to assist and remedy the issue (it was my error). She should be a customer service trainer! The dividend rate at this bank is much higher than my Credit Union, so I will keep a savings account with One United. Due to the many negative posts, no plans any time soon to transfer any other banking services to One United. Eight months later, I'm only putting money in one account, and it's all good.
