Prices here are way outside what you would expect. The portobello hamburger was very good. Only way I would eat here again with the steeps prices would be when the meal is comped. Great service though, and a decent spot to watch World Cup if all you want is a beer. read more

Quite disappointed by this restaurant especially when considering the prices. We were very excited to try the hotel bar for some drinks and then dinner. Drinks go for about 20/drink, and the one my boyfriend ordered tasted like the products were expired. I thought mine was good, but the quality for the drink was not there. The food was more disappointing, the menu is actually great, but the actual quality wasn't great. We got clam chowder, waygu burger and the salmon with mashed potatoes. Clam chowder was okay, not bad but not great. Waygu burger was too greasy to finish. Salmon was good but the veggies that came with it were not fresh. For all this plus a cocktail and glass of wine, we paid 150$ and we're not the most satisfied. The manager who was bartending was extremely kind, but the rest of the staff was just okay. Inside the Grand Hyatt Hotel on the 2nd floor. You could directly walk to the area as the stairs are next to the entrance or you can take the elevator there as well. As you enter you are welcome to an array of vintage wine where you can see the lounge to the right or the restaurant to the left if you're going to through the elevator side. As for the restaurant, it has amazing natural light since the windows panes are so big and huge! It opens to the outside patio and in view, but no blinding light that you'll need sunglasses to wear as you eat. Definitely great for some amazing food photos! The restaurant itself was an American style all you can eat buffet utilizing fresh ingredients, even there scrambled eggs were made with whole eggs when I asked, now that's dedication! Freshly made waffles, eggs benedict, and the bacon was super crispy, the list goes on and on. The service was decent, but not attentive. It is self seating as you enter and they may not recognize when you arrive so it can slow down the service a bit. There was only 2 waiters for the whole 12+ tables that I had seen. Which is okay given that its a buffet style brunch. Once we received our drinks, they only checked once more before giving our check. Seemed a bit rushed, but we still took our time finishing our meals. read more

This is a hotel bar. It advertises that it's open at 11 am every day, even though 11 am might actually mean 4 pm. Thus, they do not keep posted hours. Second, the drinks are overpriced as expected (it's a hotel bar). I'm actually not knocking them for this, because we expected it. Mostly, they lose stars for failing to provide an acceptable level of service. 1) as I said, they're not open when they say they are even on weekends; 2) when they are open the employees act like they don't want to be open; moreover, they act like they don't even want you to be there. I'm not giving it a 1, because it's a really nice space. They just need to improve the service culture and keep the hours they advertise. read more

We stopped in after the Union Square tree lighting. It's inside a hotel, on the second floor. When we visited, only one side was open. It was the bar with some tables, booths, and bar seating. The staff was attentive and polite even though it was pretty busy. They have two TVs and a full bar. The food menu isn't extensive but there are enough options to meet just about any preference. We had the wings and the margarita flat bread pizza. They had four beers on tap. The hotel lobby was nice and we hung out by the fire before we headed back out into the cold. We visited SF for a few days and stayed at the grand hyatt. We were intrigued with this restaurant being just one floor up from the main lobby so in true foodie fashion we had to take a visit. This review is for the bar only. My husband and I stopped by to have an after dinner cocktail. We sat up at the bar because we like to mingle with the bartender. The bartender came over to take my order and I asked how he served his old fashions he said how he prepared them and I said but no ice please. The drink came with ice. Frustrated, I didn't say anything. For the price of the drinks they should be prepared as requested. The bar was not busy therefore I don't understand how a simple request cannot be followed. With so many choices of craft cocktail bars I will not be returning. read more

Apart from the bartender, there were only two people working the floor, but despite it being busy, our orders were taken quickly, our food came out quickly, and my iced tea was never empty for more than a few seconds. Phil was great!!! Came across this place on a Friday afternoon, sat right at the bar. The drinks were well made and the appetizers were delicious. The restaurant OneUp is located in the Hyatt near Union Square. When you enter the Hyatt, you will go see signs directing you upstairs to the restaurant. On the right side is the bar and the left side is the restaurant. My friend and I went to the restaurant and were promptly seated as it was quite empty. The ambience was expected of a nice hotel and the staff were very attentive. For such a pricey restaurant in the Hyatt, I really was expecting the food here to be of much higher quality. Yes, the presentation of the food was nice but the food itself just did not quite meet our standards. I got the crab cakes for $18 and my friend got the burger for $18 as well. Both of these items were fine but not great. I would definitely not advise anyone to pay this much for these two items. I hope the other items on the menu are tastier and more worth the money than the items we got. read more

Lunch Review only! Came here for lunch and really enjoyed the creative "bites" menu. Basically you can get 3, 4, or 5 bites for a reasonable price. Plenty of options to choose from. I got 4 bites for $21 which included the asparagus salad, double meat slider, BLT sandwich and the chocolate peanut butter dessert bar. All of the items were delicious! I really like this concept, it is great for foodies who want to try a few different things. The BLT sandwich was definitely a larger bite ....it was 1/2 a sandwich! The slider was really good too, even the salad was unique. The dessert was rich and delicious. Much better than my sisters red velvet cupcake. I tried my sisters crispy chicken and the mac n cheese with ham and they were all heavenly. Service was prompt and friendly, we ate at the lounge side of the restaurant against the glass facing Sutter street. Great window for people watching. Highly recommended this place for someone who wants a variety of food options for lunch, similar to tapas, but smaller/bite size portions! read more

Was honestly pretty disappointed by the restaurant in this hotel. Usually, when the menu is priced this high, the food should also be pretty good, but overall I didn't love my food experiences (although I didn't really try much of the menu or the buffet). One night, I came in for dessert and they ran out of the Chocolate Torte so I ordered the New York Cheesecake. Although the presentation was fantastic (with little fruits and everything), the cheesecake itself was pretty mediocre, like something out of a frozen food container you would get at a grocery store. The fruit was fresh and enhanced the bite, but it was still nothing spectacular. The next morning, I came in for breakfast and of course did not go with the buffet (which is $35) but instead went with scrambled eggs and potatoes. The eggs were not great - it felt like they needed to be cooked a little while longer. The potatoes were decent, but a little too big in size. I didn't want to waste any of the food so ate it but was probably not for the best. The hotel does give you $10 credit per night you stay so it is worth it to maybe grab an appetizer every day or save all that money and splurge on your last day/night, but it is definitely not worth to spend that much money on this restaurant, especially considering how many better places there are around the Union Square area. read more

We came here for the RAMEN BURGER!! ): Saw pictures on yelp of the ramen burger that they had for a limited time, and when we got there, we asked the conceirge guy in the lobby if they had ramen burgers. He said yes! So we walked up the stairs to the dining area. Needless to say, there was no ramen burger on the menu and we cried. Justkidding. We still went ahead & ate there anyway... Meat & Spicy Flatbread- was really good! I really enjoyed this! Pork belly- was okay. I liked the bread & the pickled cabbage... Poutine Fries- wasn't for me, I didn't really like the gravy.. We also had this beef & noodle soup broth entree, I forgot what it was called, but it was just "meh". I just didn't like it overall.. & wasn't worth $30 for.. Overall, just average. Our cheese & charcuterie plate was largely inedible; I've never met a cheese or meat I didn't like, so this boggled my mind. The people I was with didn't like most of it either. The greatest insult was the check. Our total for those four items came to $100. What in the....... Someone has to be joking. I stayed at the Grand Hyatt last year and ate here twice for brunch. The restaurant is a bit small and located on the mezzanine level of the hotel -- very open and beautiful decor! Brunch is pretty good but pricey. You can order from a menu or choose the brunch buffet for a set price. From the menu, the French toast was delicious, but the maple bacon eggs benedict were just okay. The brunch buffet has a wide variety of fruit, cereals and oatmeal, muffins and other baked items. Overall, I'd say that some things were pretty good here, so if you're living in the Grand Hyatt and don't want to go too far for breakfast, try it out! But otherwise, I wouldn't come here just for the breakfast - there are plenty of other brunch places in SF that will be more worth your money. read more

We enjoyed the service, we also enjoyed a few of the food options. The chicken appetizers were delicious! They were nice and crispy, moist and served nice and hot. We also had the tomato soup, and it was also served nice and hot and was quite tasty. My husband and I shared the soup, and we both equally enjoyed it. I ordered the salmon, and it was crispy and fresh. It was one of the better salmon dishes I've had. My husband ordered the steak, and unfortunately that was a bit of a miss. It was not the best steak he's had. He actually ended up eating more of my food and left his on his plate. Having been the most expensive item we ordered, it was a bit of a disappointment to enjoy it the least. Lastly, we ordered chicken nuggets and French fries for our kiddos. They ate it up! Wow! What an amazing time at the hotel bar. We had a group of four and we all ordered a cocktail to start. All their specialty drinks were delish and even though we were only planning on having one drink each, we ended up staying there all night and tried their list of specialty drinks. I don't like the hotel I'm staying at, so I went to this one for breakfast. I asked for a bacon free version of eggs benedict. They brought me a lovely display of tomatoes. It did take rather long (why there's 4 vs 5 stars), but delicious!! My food was melt in your mouth buttery. Bloody Mary was perfectly spicy. I'm also super hungover, so that might be why especially amazing...but I'll leave the credit with the chef. Beautiful, cultural atmosphere. Inside the Hyatt up some sexy wooden stairs. Loved the live acoustic music on Friday night; the guy had a great voice. The ambiance is warm and modern with nice decor throughout. Bathroom upkeep is lacking tremendously as someone barfed on the toilet and I sorrowfully continued to pee anyway, whereas to not implode. Psst. Let me tell you a secret. I love frequenting hotel bars because ... it's empty. Ok, not really, BUT you can always find a seat. (see what I did there? I just did your feet a favor!) Sure you'll run into the occasional tourist and/or convention goer, but if you find a hotel bar that can make a kick ass cocktail served by an awesome bartender, you keep it on your radar. On chilly SF nights, I crave the bitter bite of Campari. That being said, the Negroni here is spot on. Head bartender Phil knows what's up and that seasonal cocktail menu? pretty exciting too. If you don't know what you want, just tell him your preferences and he'll be sure to whip up the right concoction for you. OneUP's soothing colors and minimalist vibe is a welcome sight amidst the holiday craziness of Union Square. With less than four days left before a major family event, I was stuck in the unfortunate situation of my previously-chosen brunch venue falling through (a long, frustrating story, not worth going into). My wife and I had multiple out-of-town guests staying at the Hyatt, so given the proximity, we reached out to Karen of OneUp, who responded immediately to our request by phone and email. Within hours, she connected us to Swap, who provided us photographs and specifications of the venue, and even offered us the option of reserving the entire 40-seat lounge area at no extra cost! The day of the event, we enjoyed the brunch, which was a reliable collection of classic American favorites (omelets, hash browns, bacon/sausage) along with California staples such as chia pudding and avocado. The space itself felt luxurious with its high ceilings, large vertical windows, and modern chandeliers--the perfect place for mixed company of many origins and generations. Melissa, our point of contact, made sure the process ran smoothly from start to finish. All in all, we left incredibly impressed by the professionalism, friendliness, and resourcefulness of Karen, Swap, and Melissa. What I ordered: - Grilled asparagus salad - Seafood louie - Openface dungeness crab melt (2) - sweet tea fried chicken - BLT & A slice - Double meat and cheese slider - PBR braised pork The open face dungeness crab melt is mouth watering! If only I could order four of those, I mean who knows, maybe I can? I am definitely gonna ask about that next time. Just typing this review right now is making me crave that again. After our lackluster shopping experience over at Niketown, we wanted to sit and have a drink and discuss what to do next for our SF outing. I really needed to use the bathroom and that also a large motivating factor in us coming in here as well. It was pretty much empty at around 1:30pm. We sat at the bar that you can see the street from and people watched. My husband ordered a custom cocktail called the Blueberry Ginger Cooler. I had Water because I was 71/2 months pregnant. This is a really beautifully decorated space. Even in the bright light of day it just has this upscale ambiance. The floor to ceiling windows also make you feel like the city is alive in the room with you. I'm sure at night it's even more romantic and stunning. My husband really enjoyed his drink. How could you not? It had a full days worth of antioxidants in it. Of course I was really jealous. If and when I'm ever in the neighborhood again is make this a quick stop for a cocktail and a nice relaxing view before more shopping and touristing. read more

The decor at OneUP is actually quite lovely. For a hotel restaurant it's classy and has a hip San Francisco edge to it. I ordered their seasonal watermelon salad as well as the halibut. The watermelon salad was extremely flavorful and fresh. The crisp of the watermelon paired with their light balsamic accent - was the perfect way to start a meal. It was definitely a seasonal dish and was evident in each bite. My halibut was also delicious. It was buttery and the lemon brought out it's richness. I finished each morsel of it. My only hesitation with OneUP is that they don't seem to be very consistent. My step-mom's soup was luke-warm and her salmon seemed a little dry. Also the service, though friendly - weren't very present throughout the meal - despite the place being slow. At the end of the meal - I inquired in regards to their larger group capabilities and the staff also weren't very helpful. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat at OneUP - but if you're staying at the hotel - or are looking for a decent meal in the area - it's definitely a solid contender. Located on the mezzanine level of the Grand Hyatt, One Up is everything that is wrong with hotel bars. I came to this one twice. On the first visit, I wanted a cup of tea in the afternoon. Do not ask for tea here. The water is not hot enough and the tea selection is a waste of time. On the second visit, my partner and I were looking for some after dinner drinks, courtesy of some freebie cards given to us at check in. The cocktail list was ok but not spectacular. For a house wine, I got a generic Pinot Grigio. In both cases, the service was lacklustre. We sat for quite a while in both cases and had to flag someone down when we were done. Given the location of the hotel, there really is no reason to go here. read more
