Food is good, staff friendly ,everything was clean, and it has a charming retro feel. That being said prices seem high even with inflation. ($1-$3 over what I would expect to pay) $4.00 for soda is too much. I know some other business are going that way too but gouging is gouging. I would expect fries with a Turkey sandwich for about $14-15 They are free to charge whatever they want or need to, I get that. They must have done the math and are making more at those prices. I personally can't pay $4 for something that costs less than $25 cents on principle. All that being said I don't know what they are paying to operate in Oak Park compared to a place like Riverside. In riverside $14 would get you a cup of soup , a generously portioned sandwich and a side of fries. I think they would sell more soda and make more money at $3 . I wonder if they A/B tested it. Perhaps their customer base is not as price sensitive and $4 was the clear answer. This thought is probably why I don't run a restaurant. All the more power to them but it pushes it to a monthly place rather than daily place for me. read more

Oak park is flushed with bagel options, but this one is a good one. The remodel is incredible, almost a television worthy remodel. A beautiful bar and nice tables. It's a small place but we've never had any difficulties getting a table. Really kind attentive staff. But be warned they keep your coffee cup full, a couple of times I've had 3 cups without realizing it and have left very caffeinated and chatty. I had the latkes which were tasty and served they way I like em with apple sauce and sour cream. Crispy and delicious! My boyfriend got the onion roll special sandwich on a everything bagel. I tell you this sandwich was beautiful, and tasty. $40 bucks for breakfast for two not cheap but not unreasonable considering it's oak park- they prefer cash but they take card now too. Would I recommend the onion roll over daily bagel? Don't make me pick, just go to both. read more

Today we drove in from Bloomingdale to try this establishment. They advertised that they have been in business 60 years and 30 years ago I used to live right in that area and never even heard of them. But with that being said it looked interesting and I have developed a taste for pastrami sandwicyes. So today I was there and ordered the largest Pastrami sandwich spaceship size. Well please look at my picture it looks like any other sandwich that you would get as a regular size. Flavor is good but for $22 that's crazy. If it was big... Like showing in all the pictures, . Went to the Onion Roll to treat myself to a late weekday breakfast. The dining room section has been totally redone since my last visit. It's nice and bright and comfortable (see pic). The menu has been updated as well. Service was still excellent. The coffee was wonderful. I ordered the lox and bagel sandwich on an Everything bagel. The sandwich was a bit pricey, but it came loaded with lox as well as the obligatory onions, capers and tomatoes. Really wonderful. On my way out I asked the deli counter person where they got their bagels and he told me they had just started making their own bagels in house!
