    Fresh Smoked Lox Breakfast Sandwich

One of the best dinners/bagel shops in Chicago. The bagels by themselves are a reason to go in. They're the perfect amount of a chewy crust to light and fluffy inside, with the toppings being to die for. I tried an onion, everything, and jalapeño cheddar and I loved all three. I highly recommend any of the breakfast bagel sandwiches. My boyfriend got the Avocado Turkey breakfast sandwich (not shown) and I got the Lox breakfast sandwich. The sandwiches are actually filled with food rather than just a few thin slices. My boyfriend and I split the liver plate and it was amazing. I find it hard to find great liver and this place has some! If you like liverwurst you will like this plate. We got it with an onion bagel. We got bagel chips while we waited and sipped on coffee and looking back I wish I grabbed a few extra bagels to go to try more of the variety they had since the assorted chips were so good. The staff was amazing; being warm and welcoming like we had been going there for years. The interior was beautiful and made you feel at home. This is one of those hidden gems anyone around the Chicago area should try, whether you live here or you're just stopping by.

Just moved to the area and was super excited to try a new local bagel shop. Been twice now, first time was just a jalapeño cheddar bagel with onion & chive spread, $9.43 - 8/10. Went back yesterday and got the NY bagel sandwich (2 eggs, bacon, American cheese), $18.79 and 7/10. The price is too steep for a just above average sandwich. Would rather support a local business, but not with these prices. The search continues.

Club sandwich was perfect. Not so fond of the Cole slaw.

Classic bagel/deli place. If a place has been open for more than half a century, you know it's got to be good. You can pretty much get any kind of sandwich you are interested in. I didn't get to try the coffee or bagels, but it all looked top notch. I liked the classic decor with counter service it tables.

We ordered bagels from The Onion Roll and they were fantastic. Fresh, flavorful, and perfectly chewy with that classic texture you want in a great bagel. Everything tasted super fresh and well made. It is clear they care about quality and take pride in what they serve. A great spot for anyone craving a really good bagel.

OMG! The portion and the quality is so so so good. Our server Maria gave terrific service and smiles. The ambiance is so cozy I could sip coffee and chat here for hours. Our salmon was so fresh and buttery I could not believe the quality and standard of their ingredients. Please give it a try, it pairs beautifully with their cheddar jalapeño bagel.

Tried this place for thr first time after looking for a good bagel. This place has 2 separate areas. One is a lively dining area and the other i a takeout deli. The service is very fast and attentive. At the register they have their list of available fresh bagels. I tried the jalapeno and cheddar with chive cream cheese. The bagel was good but didn't have much kick or cheddar flavor. The cream cheese really stood out though. It had a sweet flavor like I never tasted before. It was definitely fresh and home made too. A single bagel at the time of writing this was $2.50 and with cream cheese came to $5.5 with tax. I will come back again to try another bagel and their deli sandwiches.

The Onion Roll is like a bodega where you can buy fresh bagels, sandwiches and a variety of other food items. It is also a quaint sit down restaurants where bagel sandwiches and other breakfast items can be ordered and enjoyed. I opted to grab a couple of bagels togo and one of the employees at the cash register suggested the jalapeno cheddar and the rosemary and Peruvian pink salt. The bagels were soft and toasted nicely. I also ordered a chocolate egg cream drink which tasted like a carbonated chocolate milk.

Just had an awesome breakfast at The Onion Roll in Oak Park--The lox and cream cheese bagel sandwich was fantastic. Definitely hitting this spot again!

    Is the meat kosher?

Eisenberg is Kosher meat. However, the restaurant is considered Kosher-style; not 100% kosher. In order for a restaurant to be 100% kosher, there must be certification from a Rabbi and there cannot be any cheese or milk products served.

Carnivore in Oak Park…read more This is a butcher shop and fish market that also sells sandwiches I can't really decide if the old time decor is by design or if the place is really needing an upgrade. I actually think it's the latter. It's a lot smaller than I imagined with very limited seating. We went here for the grilled salmon sandwich. We had seen many online reviews saying it is amazing. They make the sandwiches right in front of you, so you know that they are fresh. We took our sandwiches to go and by the time we got them home , they were cold. The fries traveled well, but again they were also cold bu the time we got home. The grilled salmon sandwiches were very good, but not great , and I really would have loved to have eaten it warm. Prices are on the high side for the butcher meats. But I guess you should expect that since they are an artisanal butcher. I did not like the look of some of the meats in the cases. Would we go back? Maybe to try the Bacon Burger. But we would definitely recommend eating your food in the butcher shop and not taking it to go. I have just found out that that are moving into Carnival Grocery in Oak Park.

They had a very well curated selection of fancy condiments from small makers, rare ingredients, and the highest quality version of many every day foods! Everyone behind the counter was so friendly and knowledgeable. I had to try one of their sandwiches and got the salmon po boy at their recommendation. It was really well seasoned and super fresh with a very generous slice of fish on it. Definitely coming back for another one next time I'm in the area! I'm absolutely over the moon with this place! The restaurant is AMAZING, the service was great, and…read morethe food... WOW.... I ordered a soup and a pasta, and both were DELICIOUS. What really makes this place stand out for me is the variety. Sometimes when looking for vegan food, the options can feel pretty limited to fried foods, burgers, wings, etc, but here, you can find more prepared meals, pastas, soups, salads, plus the desserts are a DREAM. Absolutely outstanding! GOTTA BE BACK SOON!

Markedly below average food. Ordered the rainbow rolls, Grace's teriyaki, Burmese noodle salad, and…read morethe green tea cheesecake. Adequate service and totally unremarkable ambiance. The rainbow rolls consisted of plain, uncooked vegetables wrapped in rice paper, accompanied by peanut sauce as well as a vinegar dip. There was absolutely no taste to the rainbow rolls, and the peanut sauce tasted like peanut butter that had been microwaved for twenty seconds. The vinegar dip was the only thing that salvaged the rolls. The teriyaki did not come as advertised. There were chunks of glazed soy in brown rice - no other veggies in the bowl itself. There was a side salad that I dumped into the bowl to add some crunch and texture. The glazed soy was tasty but the rice was remarkably bland and mushy. This regime of blandness continued with the Burmese noodle salad: some of the flavours had potential and the dish might have been tastier if those flavours were accentuated, but instead it was a bowl of noodles and assorted vegetables with no compelling taste or texture. The cheesecake was both too sweet and remarkably bitter at the same time. It was fine texturally but the sweetness was overwhelming. The layer of tea on top of the cheesecake added some bitterness. The two flavours were totally incongruous. I have never wasted dessert before - if I can't finish it I take it home, but this dessert was so inedible that even at nine dollars it was not worth salvaging. Service was fine and the food came out quickly. The location of the restaurant in downtown Oak Park was nice - there was some sort of music festival going on outside that made an otherwise aggressively mediocre meal more bearable. Overall, I do not recommend this establishment.
