The last two times I have had to interact with this place has been awful. - somehow they got one of my dogs vaccine records mixed up. I was needing documentation for the groomer and this took multiple calls, me pulling my records, and me physically going in to the office 3x to get any sort of resolution to the situation. They NEVER followed up and never called back as they repeatedly told me they would. - my dogs have always been on a heart-worm & flea medication, but since we moved to the area, and they didn't issue their last prescription they would not issue a new prescription because they wanted to do an expensive blood work up before prescribing medication. They have both my dog's prior records but refused to issue the prescription refill. So I got to pay $175 for simple blood work and a n additional $120 for a full exam to confirm they don't have heart-worm ( obviously) because they have always been medicated for it. - I called last week to schedule my senior dog's rabies vaccine that he is due for this month. He was seen for his wellness check in April of 2023 (que heart-worm debacle) They refused to schedule his rabies vaccine with a vet tech insisting that I HAD to have an annual exam to get just his vaccine. They said they would check with the vet to "see" if they could just give the vaccine since he was less than 12 months out from his last exam and call me back. It has been almost a week since that conversation and there has been no communication. This is a case of 3 strikes and you're out. I would recommend going to an office that doesn't try to nickel and dime you and cares more about your pets actual needs. As a side note the office staff isn't good. Very snarky and rude. Zero follow up and POOR communication. The veterinarian I have seen has been good overall, just nothing to be wowed over.

It is beyond frustrating to schedule two different days off of work to make a trip to the vet only to be told that sorry we don't have anyone that can help you. Needless to say we will be going to a different vet, that can hopefully keep up their end of the bargain. The lady working the front desk when we went in for the first failed appointment was at least nice, but beyond that this has been an awful experience.

Everything from scheduling, front desk staff, vet techs, vets, email communication and care for our pets has been wonderful. We have a younger dog who requires little care beyond vaccines and check ups; he thinks going here is like going to the greatest dog camp ever and that he is the main attraction/celebrity! Treats and pets in abundance. Our older guy has had some recent cancer treatment for lymphoma (the tougher kind) so we got some initial info here then they recommended us out as we needed a higher and more specialized level of care and treatment (multi-phased chemotherapy). It's also a good time to note that we use Trupanion pet insurance and do recommend that too; it helps us take finances mostly out of the equation when we need treatment for unpredictable accidents and illnesses for our fur babies. Normandy AH is a solid choice for your pet care needs!

Rascal had a open wound for over a year which finally got infected, I was thinking about putting her down as she is 13 years old but my buddy her guardian angel said he'd pay half which I declined but took her in to get treated . I really wasn't into paying for a third operation, but it was well worth it. She's so happy now and I'm so glad to see her that way. They had great Yelp…read morereviews but a friend of mine had used PawPrints a couple of months ago when her pup recently had to be put down. She had great things to say. My decision really came down to convenience at the time. I decided Thursday that I could not wait any longer and that it was time. BUT, I knew that I could not physically make that call because I could feel myself tear up every time I looked at the phone. I didn't even know if whoever picked up the line would even be able to understand me. Being able to book via text and e-mail was a big plus for me in the moment. We set the appointment for the next day from 0900-1100... but my girlfriend decided that she wasn't ready and asked if we could get some more time that day. I texted the doctor and asked to move the appointment to the afternoon. She said she had a cancellation and could accommodate us. When the time came, the doctor was extremely patient and gentle. Rocco left us very peacefully. I knew to do this, but she suggested that we let our other animals see Rocco. She was definitely right. They stood guard over him until it was time for me to bury him.

For people searching for the right way to say goodbye, I can't give enough praise for Peaceful Transitions. Dr. Colleen gave us time before she began the procedure that meant the world to us. At the end she snuggled him into soft blankets, and gently put him in her car, leaving his head out for us to pet. It's a kindness when big dogs, instead of contracting a painful illness experience hip failure. Meds kept Roger active and pain free for a year. He felt like Super Dog, but at the end when the meds wore off it was evident that it was time to let him go. On his last day he took a long walk in the park by our house. In his last minutes he was surrounded by loving, petting hands, including those of Dr. Colleen.

Of course, some of them happened during COVID when things were CRAZY at all vets! That has to be taken into consideration. But there are a few that are more recent & those really astonish me. I was taken on as a new "client" several years ago after deciding that I didn't want to use Lien Animal Clinic any longer (after 20 years) because it had been purchased by a corporation & went downhill. I turned to Cascade because it's owned by one of Lien's former vets, Dr. Paulson & the former owners, Dr. Tim Kraabel & his wife. Dr. Tim Kraable was the vet who saw my dogs at Lien. (I always like having one vet who sees my dogs so that we have a solid relationship which facilitates clear & honest communication.) His son, Geoff Kraabel, works at Cascade & is my dogs' vet. I only see or talk to him and/or Dr. Paulson if he is unavailable or if she knows more about something than him. Further, a bunch of Lien's former staff work there & some of them had treated one of my dogs for more than a month when she had a big open wound. They are all AMAZING! And Dr. Kraabel in particular who has seen me through one of my dogs with whom he bonded instantly on his first visit and who connected with me as well, even though we could only talk on the phone at that time. Since then he helped that dog & I when he was diagnosed with a horrible cancer for which there was nothing that could be done. He was so supportive & genuinely heartbroken over what was happening. He also helped me tremendously with my other dog who was dealing with a neurological disease & was getting acupuncture from Kingdom of Basil & in home treatment from a physical therapist to manage it. He supported that effort & was always ready to help if I needed anything from him. After several years of managing the disease in that fashion, the physical therapist discovered that she had swollen lymph nodes & we all realized that she had lymphoma & likely didn't have long to live. He agreed w/my suggestion for us all to work together on what she was going to need until her time came. So, it was myself, Dr. Kraabel, the two acupuncturists & the physical therapist who got her and I through that VERY rough time, especially the morning that I woke up to find that she couldn't even get up to walk outside to go potty & that she was in terrible pain. (She was about 95 lbs. & luckily I had the Help Me Up harness on her that I could use, even though she didn't like it.) Dr. Kraabel responded immediately to my call & together with input from the PT we figured out a plan of action for the short term while discussing what it likely meant so we could prepare for the future. Within a week or so of that incident, it was clear that her time had come because her body just gave out on her even though her spirit wasn't ready to go. And she did go very peacefully with me holding her & the PT, her dog sitter & other friends who loved her with her, as well as my "newer" dog. The card & messages I got from Cascade were lovely & when I next came in for a visit with my "newer" dog, I was also embraced with support & care by everyone I encountered at Cascade. As for my "newer dog", he was a rescue from Eastern WA who had clearly had almost no veterinary contact except when he was at the rescue before I adopted him. He was VERY hyper & Dr. Kraabel was very patient & kind in learning how best to deal with him. We put together a way to manage his ADD that doesn't have him zombied out & Dr. Kraabel helps me manage his incurable eye disease. He has continued to be a fantastic vet with whom I can have frank conversations that are respectful & I continue to receive great care whenever I bring him in. I've also never had one instance when I felt that I was being tricked into doing something that was unnecessary in any way. We always have discussions about actions that may or may not need to be taken including the pros & cons, as well as whether the cost is worth it. That's what I want from my vet. Further, everyone who I have referred to them has reported back to me that they're very glad to have found Cascade Heights. I can NOT say enough great things about them! And in particular Dr. Kraabel, as well as Dr. Paulson.

I have been going to this vet since 2015, though I switched for a few years due to the front end…read morestaff, I came back about 2 or 3 years ago. The same staff I struggled with was there but other's had joined which seemed to create accountability. I find the facilities clean and the staff generally polite, but the level of politeness definitely varies from one customer to the next. This is observable from the waiting room. The doctor's and assistants are professional and personable. I generally see Dr. Kraabel, but have see a different Dr. for the last two visits. I recently scheduled an appointment when my Sheba showed signs of an ear infection. He had also developed an occasional tearing from one eye which this doctor had observed in May. I suspected his eye may have been scratched from my other dog's tail. For cost reasons I had been applying a human prescription lubricant which I brought in to make sure it was safe; the Dr. made no recommendations. I asked her to take another look at this visit which she did. After a brief exam she suggested a glaucoma test, when I hesitated she told me the worst case scenario, losing an eye without warning and I quickly agreed. The assistant had taken an ear swab when we arrived and now the Dr. escorted my pup to the back. When she returned a few moments later she told me he didn't have an ear infection and showed me how to clean his ears by unrolling the cotton ball and inserting it in his ear. She then went over my entire bill; almost $400. I was aghast, this was more than when he gets the expensive ear treatment. I tried to back out of the $77.00 glaucoma test, but it was already done. It was then she told me that that test was negative as well and suggested a cheap bottle of eye drops. In the end I spent almost $250.00 (with flushes and drops to be filled elsewhere) to be told my dog doesn't have an ear infection and needed eye drops. The doctor later sent results in which the findings showed mild conjunctivitis, yet she withheld that information, choosing to use fear in order to motivate me into agreeing to an unnecessary test. This was a shameful exploitation of the pet connection (a trend among vets) as well as a betrayal of integral trust one must have with the medical profession. All of that, on top of ridiculously high charges for a simple office visit. I left feeling I had been played; swindled, legally, but robbed none-the-less. Needless to say, I will search high and low to find an alternative medical provider for my pets.

Usually, whenever I would try to book an appointment elsewhere they would say they were full or not accepting clients at the moment (for dental services/new client check ups). The new client fee was $119 (not including check up/vaccination price). I was able to book the checkup appointment right away. There is parking there which is a little tight, but had a few spots open. Dental cleaning appointment is only scheduled on a Tuesday or Wednesday starting at 7am (can pick up after work). They were so kind and gave me really great advice when I had questions. Thank you for offering us your service and taking care of my dog.
