This place is located in Kapahulu, a shared lot as Papa John's and the Laundry Mat. Parking does get hard during peak hours and the spaces are kind of small. There is also a parking lot across the street where it's $1/hour. Came here one night after the movies like after 8pm and there were still a lot of people. That night we ordered calamari and chicken karaage and both were delicious but preferred the chicken more. It came with yuzu mayo and it was yummy. Every time I come here, I have to get the chicken karaage. It's juicy and it wasn't tough. As for the ramen, I choose between the classic or the black garlic. The portion is very generous. Gets me stuffed afterward. Their char siu is thin, soft, and tender. The broth has lots of flavor in it and the ramen is done perfectly. Craving some ramen? This place is the go-to. Onoya is just outside Waikiki, and "down the street". I got the inside tip on this place from a Japanese friend and had to check it out. This place has a pretty local vibe, and a much larger variety of ramens. My favorite is the yuzu ramen which is a bit rare to see, and has a lighter flavor. The chicken in the ramen was just ok. For ramen foodies looking for flavor, the tonkotsu black is highly recommended. This trip I also tried the classic tonkotsu but wasn't a big fan-- the ramen was a white noodle lacking the eggy flavor typical in ramen noodles, and the broth was a white pork bone broth. Lot of add ons for your ramen too.. If you brought an appetite, I highly recommend getting a combo set, the curry here is super solid. They also have a selection of vegan ramens! Place is probably 4-4.5 stars depending when you go. While they have a wide selection of ramen, not all ramens are 5 stars. Onoya also has a few oddities. It honestly hurts to leave a one-star review. This was the very first restaurant I visited when I moved to the island -- and the first place I truly enjoyed the food. Since then, we've recommended it to so many friends and family who've come to visit. Recently, when my family and I weren't feeling well, we decided to order ramen to lift our spirits. We were genuinely excited to eat and share the food with our two young children (ages 2 and 1). But when we opened our order and were about to dig in, my husband found a large green worm-like larva in the food. Our appetite went completely out the window. Thankfully, we hadn't served the kids yet. We called the restaurant right away. The staff member was kind and apologetic, and said he had just started his shift but that we would be receiving a refund. This was on Thursday, 4/18/25 at around 4:20 PM. When we didn't see the refund reflected on our account after a couple of days, we called back. That time, we were told that a manager needed to approve it first. Later that day, someone called to confirm the refund had been processed. However, after more time passed and still no refund showed up, we contacted Grubhub -- only to be told that not only had they received no refund request, but that we had now passed their 48-hour window and were no longer eligible for one. While I understand that mistakes can happen, I do believe situations like this deserve careful attention and follow-through -- especially when it comes to food safety. I'm sure no one wants to find a worm in their meal, and when we choose to eat out, we're not just paying for the convenience -- we're placing trust in the restaurant to handle our food with care. That trust matters, especially for families with small children. I hope this feedback helps the restaurant reflect on its processes, both in the kitchen and in how customer concerns are handled. I will be contacting the Health Department, not out of spite, but because I believe it's important for the sake of transparency and prevention. My favorite place for Tonkotsu ramen! The broth is creamy, not too salty, and is a perfect blend of yumminess that I often find myself craving! I like that you can customize your bowl to add extra noodles, an extra egg, or take out green onions. You can do whatever you want. Also great combos for both adults and for the kids. Prices are very reasonable at about $15-$17/bowl considering how expensive things are these days. Service is always great! Last March, we stopped into Ono-Ya Ramen to show our support for their COVID-19 era move from the former Waikīkī Yokocho and Shirokiya Japanese Village Walk sites to Kapahulu. We remembered slurping their specialty tonkotsu (pork bones and meat) broth served with hearty portions of ramen at their Waikīkī location and their superb and friendly service. Yes, we've known about Ono-Ya's Award-Winning Shoyu Ramen, but we prefer the unctuousness of tonkotsu. Ono-Ya Ramen is located in a small strip mall and shares a small parking lot with Papa John's Pizza and Kapahulu Xpress Laundromat. When we drove into the lot, we, fortunately, snagged the last available stall and strolled into the restaurant. As soon as we entered, we were greeted by a hostess who asked if we had reservations or signed up for their waitlist. We could see that the restaurant was jammed with customers. Unfortunately, we didn't have reservations but certainly didn't expect to see this place crowded since it was a weekday around 3 PM. The hostess directed us to take a seat along with the entry as she dipped around the corner to check for an empty table. She kindly motioned us to follow her to the cleaned table and seated us. No more than a minute had passed by after we were seated when a friendly server quickly stopped by to provide us glasses of iced water and asked our ordering preference through the use of either a printed menu or the QRC on the table. Before I could answer, my husband, piped in to say he wanted printed menus. To our surprise, the server brought us a Happy Hour menu featuring discounted appetizers and alcoholic beverages and their full menu. She gave us a few moments to look through the menu and returned to take our order. As our server took our order, she mentioned Ono-Ya's FIRST Anniversary BOGO special, which was going on from March 1 through 10. How lucky that we came in during Happy Hour and during their Anniversary. FOOD: - Gyoza: the gyoza wrapper had nice pan-fried bottoms, and its upper pleated wrapper was delicate and tender. Each gyoza was filled with a flavorful ground pork mixture. Five pcs/$4 - Tonkotsu Tan Tan Men: all-natural pork bone broth flavored sesame seed and chili oil. Toppings included seared pork belly char siu, seasoned ground pork, bok choy, seasoned egg (ajitama), chili threads, and green onions. The collagen-rich broth coated the strands of ramen and my husband's tongue as he slurped the noodles. Tonkotsu broth is made from pork, chicken, and vegetables then slowly simmered until a creamy, milky white broth is created. Its cooking process creates "umami," or the 5th human taste. The broth's rich, meaty and thicker consistency is a mouthwatering coating over the tongue. The firm and chewy ramen's texture helped the broth and oils (sesame & chili) coat each strand. That is why slurping is the correct way to eat ramen. My husband remarked that he was full after eating 2/3 of his tonkotsu tan tan men, but he continued slurping up the noodles. $15 - Tonkotsu Black: this bowl of ramen came with Ono-Ya's tonkotsu broth flavored with their signature black garlic oil and garlic chips. Luckily, we both enjoy garlic and have shared garlicky kisses before...oops, sorry, TMI. The toppings included seared pork belly char siu, bean sprouts, kikurage, nori, seasoned egg (ajitama), and green onions. I tasted the broth before mixing the toppings into the steaming hot bowl. After pushing the toppings into the hot broth to warm each ingredient, I pulled up the noodles to aerate them while allowing the broth and oils to coat the strands before greedily slurping them. $0 because this was the Anniversary BOGO special. However, this specialty usually costs $15. The steaming hot bowls of ramen were satisfying and fully flavored. We were happy with the excellent service and pleased to have caught the final day of their Anniversary Specials--shame on us for taking a year to return to Ono-Ya Ramen. I cannot believe I have never been here! I saw someone post on Instagram that Ono-Ya was having an anniversary BOGO special! So of course I decided to take my grandfather here for lunch. Ono-ya is located on Kapahulu and shares the same parking lot as Papa Johns and Kapahulu Laundromat. We made reservations a head of time. Thank goodness we did because it packed and had a line outside before they even opened. Obviously everyone else also heard the great deal they had going on! The Grub. Gyoza ($6.50) - The gyoza was so good. Filled with pork and vegetables, it was pan fried perfectly. Crispy on the outside and soft juicy on the inside. Tonkotsu Classic ($14) - My grandfather and I both got this ramen. The pork broth was delicious. The ramen came with seared char siu, bean sprouts, kikurage, nori, ajitama, and green onions. Highly recommend trying this ramen! A huge MAHALO to Ono-Ya and their staff. The food was truly ONO and the staff was friendly and efficient! I remember this ramen shop being in Shirokiya before COVID times. Never really got a chance to check it out during that time as there were other ramen places I frequented. And I regret that! This place is p bomb, and now one of my fav places to go to. It's located in a small area next the Kapahulu Xpress Laundromat and across of Zippy's on Ho'olulu St. The parking is kind of a nightmare as the restaurant shares its lot with different businesses including the laundromat. Literally impossible to find a parking stall. There's residential parking around but can be quite a walk. My friends and I went during their BOGO free week as they were celebrating their one year anniversary at the current location. What a steal! I got the Tonkotsu Black ramen while everyone else got the Tonkotsu Spicy. The ramen was delicious! It wasn't too oily or heavy at all. The flavor of it was heavenly. The noodles was also on the firmer side which is how I preferred. I asked for spicy level 2 (additional charge), and it wasn't too spicy yet still had a nice kick. I tried the broth of my friends', and it was also really good! I think I preferred the Tonkotsu Spicy more. This place is def one of my fav ramen places now. I stumbled across this spot using good old yelp trying to find a new ramen shop to try. Per usual, yelp didn't fail. We checked in on an ipad inside and waited about 20 minutes before we were seated. The restaurant is in a little strip mall near Papa John's and a laundry mat. There are a few parking stalls, but considering the foot traffic, you're lucky if you get one. My wife and I always go for the spicy ramen. While the spice level was average at best, the broth was rich and tasty and the noodles had a great chew. We opted to add more spice. We shared the gyoza and karaage. The gyoza was average and not memorable. The karaage was good. Had a great crunch, juicy in the middle, topped with a little lemon for balance. The service was great, several folks checked on us throughout our meal and the entire kitchen said thank you and goodbye as we left. Good taste and really fast service! Came here during their last days of bogo so you know it was super busy! The parking lot is super small and it shares it with papa johns and a laundry mat! We were lucky and got some residential street parking close by, there is also a municipal parking lot across the street by side street inn. I joined the wait list via yelp and when we arrived we went inside and checked in, the server looked through her very long list of people in line to confirm it was me checking in. I really like the yelp wait list feature, i could set a time and it let me know when the wait list was getting long to put in my name so i could get seated around the time I wanted. Since they were busier than usual it was maybe 15min longer than the expected time but it wasn't bad at all, the location is kind of small and they spaced people out decently still yet which i appreciate. They have QR codes for menu ordering and paying if you want to do it that way, but our server came by pretty quickly. We ordered the black tan tan and the regular tan tan. The black was very rich with garlic chips and the tan tan was very creamy and had a little bit of a kick to it. Delicious ramen, great service and very affordable prices. There was nothing special about the edamame, in the sense they were just steamed with salt. But the boiled dumplings were tasty and the Tan Tan Ramen was delicious. The broth was fantastic and the portion enormous. Came here for the BOGO special running from March 1-10. Seating was pretty easy on their off-peak hours, parking - not so much. The lot is tiny and is shared with customers from Papa John's and the local laundromat. I had to find street parking in the residential area one block over. The shop isn't large and they do pack in the seating. Waiter recommended the Tan Tan Men and Black Garlic Tonkatsu. Ran into some friends who had just arrived so the wait staff was kind enough to move our table to the back area which was cooler and bit more intimate, better space away from other patrons. Noodle orders came out pretty quick. Portion sizes could be better and I like lots of broth so if that's also you, you might be short changed. Black Garlic broth was decent,but I found the Tan Tan Men broth more interesting with a savory flavor from the sesame oil and a slight kick on the spice from the chili oil. They give you two thin and small slices of charred pork belly that were pretty good. Could have added more portion-wise for veggies since I also ordered a side of choisum which still didn't do it for me. My friends ordered the Tonkatsu special that came in a bigger bowl with more cuts of meat and noodles ($18) and another black garlic. They also got a pupu of spicy ahi crispy rice which came with two pieces. They said it was tasty but not sure about the price. Spicy ahi looked pureed and scooped on top like sorbet. All in all, good noodle shop but nothing spectacular. I think a huge plus is the quickness of the food coming out. So you can come in for a quick pit stop. Minor gripe- be careful when you look at the receipt. They provided suggested totals that included tip at 15, 18 and 20% but it's not correctly totaled. Ours for two noodle bowls, because of the bogo special, came out to around 17.50 (including tax, not including tip) total. The suggested tip for 15% plus total was calculated as $22 on the receipt. That's really off and quite deceiving. We paid $22 intentionally because of the bogo deal but if you come on a regular day, be careful to calculate the tip on your own and don't rely on the paper receipt. read more

Decided to try Onoya Ramen on a whim. Appetizers need some work. We ordered the agedashi tofu and the spicy tuna crispy rice. Their agedashi tofu uses firm tofu. It definitely needs to use soft tofu, firm tasted pretty weird. Spicy tuna crispy rice was a good idea, but the rice was not crispy enough and not hot enough. I had the tonkatsu special. They market it with 3 different kinds of charsiu. Chicken char siu was just bland chicken breast, so probably avoid. Unfortunately, we had stomach aches the rest of the night and the morning after. We will probably avoid Onoya in the future and stick to our usual ramen spots. Parking lot gets filled up quickly too, so parking gets tough. This place was packed when we got here but we were seated fairly quickly. I was so excited to try this spot while we're here this time since this came highly recommended by one of our Lyft driver.
