Found this while surfing ( pun since I'm in HNL) yelp and wanted to try a different ramen place as we usually go to Wagaya every year when in town. Ono-ya is located in one of the many storefronts where there are limited parking spaces and around the corner from Uncle Bo's Bar and Lounge. The two ramens that we ordered were fantastic and rivals Wagaya. We ordered the chicken karage which came out hot but prefer Wagaya's sauce compared to the mayo sweet chili dipping sauce. The dining area is slightly larger than Wagaya and one is not seated so close to others . Service was fast with refills of water without having to ask. Overall 4.5 for Ono-ya with still a 5 rating for Wagaya for their karage. read more

I occasionally come here and they never disappoint. We came here during their anniversary, which they were having a BOGO deal. I joined the waitlist and was 30th in line. When we finally got there, I jumped to 26th, and after about 5-10 minutes of waiting, we were able to get seated already. They're always quick and efficient here without trying to rush you out. The ramen and food is good and always consistent. I've tried the gyoza and chicken karaage before and those were good, but chose to get the spicy tuna crispy rice this time. Very impressive ramen just a short distance away from the beaches and resorts. I thoroughly enjoyed the fast service and cheery, lively atmosphere. Food came out quickly and the ramen was so good. Only critique is that the calamari felt a bit small as an appetizer, but the kaarage was tasty, the ramen was hearty and filling, the decor was funny, and everything about this place was amazing. If you need more to eat than just ramen, their combos that allow you to add a rice bowl are super worth it. Probably one of the highlights of my Hawaii experience, and even though I've had my fair share of good ramen in the bay and in LA, this place really does stand out. They have a Yelp wait-list that you can join remotely, but they call out for people waiting pretty quickly. We came for lunch on a Wednesday, after arriving in Oahu, and the restaurant was mostly empty. I was already kind of wondering why that was the case, since it was lunch time! That should have been our sign to leave but we were hungry and ramen sounded good so we didn't bother going somewhere else. I tried the Tonkatsu classic w/ extra noodles so I could share with my daughter. As soon as my ramen arrived, I was immediately disappointed w/ the sight of my overcooked egg. A good ramen restaurant needs to have a perfectly cooked egg! Egg aside, the ramen was good, not amazing. The broth was flavorful and the noodles were cooked al dente ish (a little softer). The extra noodles was a huge portion! We couldn't finish, which has never happened before, and we were hungry! My husband got the Tonkatsu black and enjoyed it. I liked the regular Tonkatsu broth more though. My husband thought maybe the high ratings are based on what's available in Oahu, but even so, I'm sure you should be able to find better ramen elsewhere on the island? I don't regret trying Onoya, it was fine, but I probably won't be back since I'd want to try another place instead. read more

I'm glad I was able to try onoya ramen. I'm also glad they have a waitlist via yelp. This helped out plan our dinner coming from sandy beach. Our table was ready earlier than expected but it worked out. PARKING IS HORRIBLE. They have a parking lot but it fills up pretty fast. Street parking is almost impossible as well. We order the takoyaki which was very tasty. My husband got the tan tan ramen which he pretty much finished and I ordered the black ramen which I personally really liked because of how tasty it was. There was some wait time just because there was really no dedicated host. It's pretty much whoever is not doing anything is the host which I hope they change because it was very confusing. They have people picking up food who also has to wait for someone to give them the food they can't just grab it and then there are also people waiting to be seated. They weren't really going by their waitlist because they still had tables available but personally I think they should utilize that if they have it that way they don't have too much people at their waiting area which was honestly very small and crowded. #7 of 52 (trying a new restaurant t least once a week) I saw one of those IG posts from one our local food influencers and it looked so good. Since we love ramen I had to add this to our list. I made a reservation because it was an option and I heard this place gets busy. Their parking lot is tiny and shares a lot with a laundromat. I would guess there are about a dozen stalls and we were lucky to get the last one! The exterior is not much to look at but the interior is cute. They have several tables and a little bar against a wall. Almost like you'd see at a sushi bar. One wall has cute ramen-like sayings. There is a good variety of food options. We settled for their lunch special which was a choice of 1 of 6 ramens and a choice of side dishes. I settled for the Tonkatsu Black and my guy got the Tonkatsu Spicy. For our side dishes we got the mini Chicken Karaage and 3 pc Gyoza. Both of the lunch specials were $19 each. The food came out quickly, as it typically does in a ramen restaurant. The gyoza was up first. I did not realize that the gyoza was fried. I prefer a steamed or pan fried gyoza. However the filling was very good and plentiful. Our ramen came out next and looked and smelled SO good. The first taste of the broth I thought it was missing some pork flavor but as I ate more of it I decided it was pretty fantastic. The broth was so rich. The pork was the right ratio of meat to pork and the egg was perfect! My guy liked his ramen as well and commented on how good the broth was. It's a spicy ramen and they don't ask your spice level but I'd say it's around a level 2 compared to other ramen restaurants. We both really liked the chewy noodles too. The chicken karaage came out last and you get a cute little bowl of rice, some pickled ginger and about 3 pieces of chicken. The karaage was delicious! The flavor was just perfect, so tender and nice with the rice. We were definitely full with the ramen and two side dishes and $19 for all that food is very reasonable. We haven't explored too many restaurants in that area but are happy to have another place to eat after a visit to the zoo or nearby areas. I can't forget to mention the customer service. Haven't been here in awhile, but it was a cold and rainy evening so we decided on ramen. It was slow so our take out was ready when we arrived. That was awesome, normally your take out is not ready and takes longer, depending on the time you place your order. Parking was a breeze and didn't have to wait or look for parking in the surrounding area. We had simple ramen this time Shoyu and Shio with side order of gyoza. They changed the containers frome our last visit and I loved these better, the soup at bottom and noodles and condiments on a top plastic lid, so you add the ramen to soup. Really neat concept. All was perfect and the food was back to its consistent flavors we love. The one glitch I always have is ordering on line, for some reason I'm not able to and end up calling the restaurant to place my order. Reservations: You can make reservations through Yelp although it did not seem to make a difference. I made one and they were not interested in if I had one on arrival. While eating, I observed a large family come in. They had a reservation but no tables were available so they had to wait outside. Food: food was excellent. Bill: it is a good thing I looked because they charged my card to a table whose bill was more than twice ours. They refunded me and ran the correct charge. Great good and very attentive service with reasonable pricing are the reasons this place does well. Only downside is their location had very crowded parking and so it's a challenge to get in and find a place to park. Been here a few times, my adult son and friends like coming here Friday nights after church, usually as a group of 4-8 peeps. Normally we do have a short wait, understandable as it's not a huge venue with around 15 tables, mostly four tops that they can move together for larger parties. Food is always very favorable and served made to order. It doesn't take too long to get your food and it's always been correct as ordered. They also have a few beers and spirits available, reasonably priced, to compliment your meal. It's a nice to have that as an option. Will we be back, most definitely. It's been so long since I did a night out with the family. Came to this location off of searching for ramen while it was raining out. Parking is limited. Service was a bit rushed. They helped us to our table, they took our order, they serve this our order and then we had to flag them for our bill. The location was a bit squished. When there were other customers coming in, everybody was being taped to moved in just so others could sit down the other tables. Ton ramen - nothing fancy about this just regular Ramen with the basic broth and garnishing. Spicy ahi bowl - definitely the worst spicy ahi I've had. It basically tasted rancid. I don't know it didn't sit right with neither myself, my oldest and my husband. And we are hard-core raw fish eaters. Popcorn chicken - different take on popcorn chicken. It was hard to chew. It also comes with all three types of meats including two pork types and chicken breast. The Seabura (special of the month) had a Chinese taste/style to it and it was also delicious.
