It's been a while! Onoya Ramen fulfilled my ramen and gyoza craving with shishito peppers as a bonus.
Tonkatsu Black Tonkatsu Miso Came to Onoya Ramen for a quick meal. Dedicated parking out back. Clean spacious table seating. Brightly lit interior. Wait staff greeted us quickly. No reservations needed. Overall the noddle soup was warm not as hot as I would have expected Good noodles. But one bowl of noodles was a bit clumped together not fully separated. Needed to be cooked a bit longer Garlic chips added texture but they did taste a bit burned. Broth flavor was good for both Char sui was thick and meaty with good fat balance Mushrooms added complexity to the bowl One POINT deducted! The menu clearly shows two halves of an egg. IE an entire egg. See images. Both bowls came with only one half of an egg. Clearly mis leading.
This is just the Spicy Miso Tonkotsu Ramen. Oh wow! This was the only ramen I tried so far here, but it's really delicious. The pork was thick and flavorful. Might be my favorite one so far as of now!! Broth was creamy and flavorful. But spicy! I might tone down the spice if I can next time. But it was really good. IMO, The eggs can prob use more flavor. I like my eggs where It really takes in the marinade while still being jammy. But good enough. Noodles are sun noodles I think. It's alright for me, but since everything else was good, I don't mind.
Grabbed takeaway from Onoya Ramen - the OG location in Kapahulu. Ordered via Toast local app...used my rewards and paid $4. Gyoza Curry was ready before stated time hut I waited to get it at the estimated ready time. Curry had some spiciness to it....nice and thick with pieces of beef and carrots. Gyoza was house made and fried crispy. Excellent. Just the right amount of rice.
Three words: Pork Cutlet Curry. That's all I need in this life. I hope they stay in business forever because I can't stand the idea of not being able to come to Ono-ya to grab this dish. Their curry is thick and seasoned to perfection! This is literally all I think about when I'm hungry. Lol! Service is ALWAYS on point, friendly and quick whether you dine in or take out. Just how I like my service no matter where I go. This location is also very convenient bc I literally work a hop and skip away from Ono-ya.
I came here again, no notes look at my past reviews. Its solid and their chicken katsu curry and ramen combo is perfect and has amazing value
Went again, and the Tonkotsu Tan Tan Men was probably the best ramen I ever had ever ever ever. Sooo good My kids both still love their shoyu ramen and hub loved his spicy tonkotsu. Will make the drive when craving ramen 10000/10
I came here for the vegan ramen and went to this location in particular because it had a higher rating. When I walked in, I knew I had made a mistake. The place is a dump. There are half-destroyed chairs everywhere near the entrance and the dining room and kitchen are a mess too. Wet grossness all over the kitchen floor, a visibly dirty mop bucket, a dirty soup pot on the floor, serving stand is super dirty, the employee uniforms are dirty, etc. Also, one of the walls is falling apart. But I have POTS and needed to eat. My bowl came slightly dirty. My ramen tasted off (especially the broth) but I ate most of it because I needed food. I couldn't finish the noodles, though. It wasn't very spicy, either. I won't come back, and I hope I won't get food poisoning.
It was raining and we had little kids with us - we decided to enjoy a take out meal from this place. OMG! It was the best decision! We enjoyed the crispy rice with ahi tuna and also the vegan ramen - which we ordered a spicy version - LOVED IT! All the ramens were incredible- you must try this place if you are craving some amazing ramen. Hope to go in person to provide input on the service and ambiance/ vibe.
This is a great spot for ramen. The restaurant is a little small, but I kinda prefer it that way. The staff is very friendly and helpful when ordering. The ramen is always cooked perfectly, and the egg is always just soft enough and a little runny how I like it. It's a great place to come when craving warm ramen. I love leaving with the warm soup belly feeling. It's definitely worth a try.
The food was definitely a hit. Not everything hit it out of the park, but the main players definitely made an impact. The appetizers were a hit or miss. I know that they seemed to be a bit short staffed, I just wish the execution was a little better. There were at least 2 tables of two that came right after we were seated; but by the time our orders were taken, those two tables already received their food. I was turned off by that, but was not going to let that negatively affect my dining experience. The ambience was bustling, and the energy was high. There were only two servers, and they tried their best, I just wish there was another server or two to allow for the patrons to get the full experience. Other than that, the food was great. I'm hoping they figure out how to execute better with either more staff, or a better system. It's not the servers fault.
Onoya was offering a BOGO ramen special this week from Wed-Fri to celebrate their 5th anniversary, so we braved the pouring rain and flood conditions to come for lunch. It was a good thing I used the Yelp app to join their waitlist, because it seemed like half the people in the area decided to come here for lunch. It was a 25-40 minute wait online, so the timing was perfect for the drive from Manoa. There were at last 10 people already there waiting, but at least the tables were turning petty quickly. We were seated right away and could tell the vibe was that it was a super busy day. We put in our orders and were served within 5-6 minutes. A couple of Classic ramen, a Black ramen, a Tan tan ramen, a pitch of beer, gyoza, and takoyaki. The ramen was piping hot, creamy, and so satisfying good. They're were 3 of is, so the 4th one was to split between us; but we ended up taking most of it home, along with the extra broth. The service was fairly fast and efficient, even for a "slammed" busy day, and the Ramen was excellent, as usual.
We found this cute ramen spot on the way to Diamond head and it was a slam dunk. They had an awesome lunch deal for 19$. A ramen, gyoza, and a small curry bowl. You can't find that anywhere out here. They have kids ramen sets for like 10$ that are perfect for the little ones. Lots of parking and a zippy's across the street if you wanted to grab some plates to go before heading to DH. Service was fast and the whole meal was great value. Highly recommend!
Thanks Yelper Mike K. for the 411 on the October BOGO IG special. I did take-out and it seems the way to go for me. I called in my order and then showed up. Person remembered me and brought out my bag of yum. I paid with a cc and headed to the park. The broth is kept separate from the noodles. Happy they included utensils because I forgot to ask for them. It is a busy, smaller size establishment with a limited parking lot that is shared by surrounding businesses. Want to try their other ramen broths. read more
Found my new favorite ramen in Hawaii! I've had a favorite spot in Hawaii before, but it was just Hawaii good. This spot could hold up to those in Japan, it's that much better. TanTan style is my favorite and this place makes it great. The chashu quality is also solid. Rich, porky broth is super flavorful. baby bok choy mixed in was a great change in flavors though bathed in that broth. It's kind of a pain to come here in the middle of Kapahulu, there is a parking lot for them and other businesses around them, but I couldn't find any parking and the street parking around there is a beast. It's worth putting up with all that, my only hope is they expand out to the west side at some point. read more
Once you walk in the restaurant, on your left, there is a red neon sign that says "True love is hard to find. Good ramen is even harder". I doubt it because seeing all the 4.5 reviews on Yelp made it so much easier to find this spot. And when I say it is good, I mean it. A rare find is Yuzu ramen. No other place will even dare attempt to make this, yet this place has the confidence to dare me. And dare it did. The shio version was light and clear, yet depth in flavor and taste. The soup dances and swirls neatly on my tongue to a beautiful flavor, flavor that has grace yet pronounced performance. Rare and yet done well. I applaud this place. Yet on the end of the spectrum you got this power punch performing bowl of Black Tonkatsu that has overwhelming savory broth from the pork, fried garlic and black truffle oil. Both broths stood out so well from this place, and I recommend you try both. And there is spicy soup ramen. They're good. Not much to say and other places do this too. They do this well. read more
Solid ramen place with a varied menu including chicken ramen and even a veggie menu. Bets a high alls and such to drink. The chicken ramen is nice, and they let you choose salt or shoyu. They'll also customize, leaving things out or providing them in the side of there are toppings you're not thrilled about, which was nice. There was maybe a 15-minute wait on a weeknight around 7:30. The agedashi tofu was good, average, quite fishy with Bonito flakes. My friends liked the dark and normal pork ramen. read more
Head here for award-winning ramen. Onoya Ramen is located on Kapahulu - look for Papa John's and turn into the parking lot. There's another entrance on the side street. On-street parking is available nearby, in case spaces are taken by the laundromat patrons. The broth is very tasty and the noodles are firm, not mushy. Checkout the lunch specials available from 11 am to 2 pm. Service and ambience are A+. Love the decor and seating arrangements. read more
Oh wow, the ramen here is excellent. I'm not even that big a fan of ramen or saimin, but I will crave this place. I ordered the Tonkotsu Tantan Ramen as a lunch special. It came with gyoza and charsiu over rice. The charsiu tastes like chopped up shoyu pork. Looked very different from the picture in the menu, but it tasted pretty good. The gyoza was good, as well. The showstopper, though, was the ramen. The noodles tasted freshly made because it had that chew. The broth was so good I kept going back to it even though I was stuffed. It also had the right amount of heat. Service was attentive and pleasant. If you're looking for really ono ramen, you need to stop by this place. read more
Onoya arrived at the kapahulu food street offering a great addition to the variety of food in Kapahulu. They have a wide selection of broth and even create your own ramen option. It was hard to decide on my broth but once I saw the garlic black ramen, it was an obvious choice. Both my husband and I had the Black where as our daughters had the more basic shoyu and shio broth. They also have a nice tonkatsu, tan tan and interest yuzu flavor broth, so we definitely have to come back to try the other flavors. The lunch menu has a combination sets which includes gyoza or rice bowls... The service was quick and friendly. Space was huge and probably has capacity of 50 or more seats... Came here because I saw their buy one ramen get one free promotion on friend's social media. And I'm happy to have found them! I've tried Onoya in Shirokiya and Yokocho too bad they were closed. So is this the same store? Or is it like a franchise kinda thing? Regardless, I know I'll come back for sure because the ramen was so good! We came around 5pm so were still able to order from happy hour menu, which was definitely a steal. Appetizers and drinks less than $5? Yay I'll make sure I leave work early next time to catch their happy hour. And the quality and portion was not compromised given the discounted price. We ordered classic and tonkotsu black ramen. Both pork bone broth were flavorful but the tonkotsu black had a bit stronger garlicky flavors. We finished all the broth to the bottom. Very satisfied. Noodles were just right. The only complaint was the pork which was a bit overcooked hence chewy but wasn't a big deal. Service was great. Limited parking outside as they have to share the lot with other stores but we were able to park in the residential area the same block. And if I'm not mistaken there should be a municipal parking across Kapahulu Ave. read more
3.5 stars! Onoya Ramen is located on Kapahulu Ave in the same complex as Papa John's. They share the same private lot with Papa John's and the laundromat on site. The stalls are tight so watch out for the ding fairy. When you enter, you will fill out your info in their contact tracing book and provide them your vaccination card/negative test results. The interior is larger than one would expect from the outside. Decor is modern oriental with bold colored walls. The kitchen is pretty much open concept and the place feels clean (for those who are concerned with COVID-19). The staff was wearing masks and were quite friendly not to mention quick. Kudos on their customer service. It took us awhile to choose what we wanted. The combination sets looked good but they didn't have that perfect combo we wanted so we ordered individually. Our order was the Tonkotsu Spicy, Tonkotsu Tan Tan Men and a side of Onoya Gyoza. The gyoza was shared and we both thought it was ok but wasn't good or great. I really enjoyed my Tonkotsu Spicy. The noodles had the perfect texture and the broth was on point. Broth for the Tonkotsu Tan Tan Men was only good the first couple sips but between the two broths, we enjoyed the Tonkotsu Spicy's broth much more. If you're able to find parking then this place is a good option for ramen in the Kapahulu area. read more
I'm going to be honest. I'm very picky when it comes to ramen and I'm not easily impressed. The ramen in Japan would be a high bar to meet and I wouldn't expect any restaurant here to be able to compete with that. I used to think that it was pretty sad, however, that I could get better ramen in New York than in Hawaii... that is until I found Onoya. They have combo deals that I would recommend splitting with another person unless you're super duper hungry. It's a lot of food for one person and I can eat a lot. I usually get the deluxe tonkotsu ramen that comes with extra pork. You can also upgrade the combos from the basic ramen to a different ramen if you want too. read more

I would highly recommend making reservations beforehand. Even with reservations for 8p we had to wait about 20 min to be seated. Once we were seated, and started to look through the menu, about 3 minutes later, they then asked if we could move to a different table because they needed to accommodate a large party, which was fine. Then about 2 more minutes later after sitting at our new spot, the waitress came to ask what what we wanted to order. Everything felt so rushed and hectic. The food also arrived to the table super quick and it was just as tasty as I remembered it at other locations. The cheese curry ramen has a little tangy bite to it with the Parmesan cheese topping. The noodles cooked perfectly al dente. As for parking, they have a little lot up front that has maybe 25 stalls at most. May the parking gods be ever in your favor! read more
As someone who works in an office all day which is always freezing cold, I love getting something warm and filling like ramen with my coworkers. Parking is a bit tight and we went a few minutes before a whole crowd of people came storming in so service felt a bit rushed and a bit of a wait on the food. BUT the food was so worth the wait. All of this for their lunch special at only $17-$18? You're kidding! Everything looked good and tasted even better. I would definitely come back again. read more

Do NOT let the gps lie to you! It's not just down the street. Do not walk from your Waikiki hotel in the middle of the summer day. By the time we got here, I was sweating from the sun and humidity. Take the $8 Uber!!! Unfortunately, after the sweat fest, the last thing I wanted was hot ramen. So I ordered the chicken katsu curry instead. It was good but probably not as good as the ramen. However, I was able to get lil slurps from my party's bowls. Traveler's Tip: Take the Uber, it's worth it. Then you can have all that hot ramen all you want. read more
Ate at a number of ramen joints around Honolulu and this was the best. Noodles were cooked to just the right level of firmness and broth was flavorful without being overly salty. The combo option is a good deal if you're really hungry - the side addon is almost like a full meal instead of a small portion. Tip: you can make a reservation via Yelp ahead of time to save waiting at the door. read more

"True Love Is Hard To Find. Good Ramen Is Even Harder" Right when you walk in you'll see this saying all lit up in red to your left. And it's true. You'll find very decent belly filling ramen here, but good ramen? Elusive. Let's get to it .... The broth: clear chintan for the shoyu and shio, and milky paitan for the tonkotsu, have nice personalities. The tare: where the umami and salt levels come in to play, are less intense than a lot of places around town. I like TanTan, but I find Onoya's lacks sharp brightness and tang. The toppings: above average here. They don't have a large variety of things you can add but what they have is good. The oil: doesn't add the right smoothness to the coating on the noodles. I don't see that nice aromatic sheen on the surface. The noodles: the disappointing element to their ramen. Never, in the numerous times I've come here have they ever gotten the texture right. I prefer firm regular noodles over the thin ones. Mine always comes over-cooked. Some above average side appetizer dishes, like the Assorted Char Siu, Tonkatsu, and Potato Salad will nicely round out your meal. You can always get curry and rice - because, maybe, noodles alone don't fill you up enough. And beer, chu-hi and highballs because a drink is always nice to clear your palate. A crowded parking lot? Intimate (read, packed tight with no dividers or distancing) seating? Attentive and courteous, but somewhat distracted servers? Yes. Yes. Yes. You'll leave with a full belly. I called in my order and it was ready when I got there. Friendly staff. Smaller sizes restaurant but I just wanted my food. My ramen was packed separately from the broth and kept very well. I like that the chicken broth base ramen I ordered had flavor, was not salty, oily or spicy, but enough chicken flavor. Not heavy. I am sure the other broths are richer but I wanted lighter today. Ramen here is good. Tried the black garlic tonkatsu ramen & hubby had the tantan ramen. Also tried the gyoza & agedashi tofu. Everything was very tasty & we will definitely be back! It honestly hurts to leave a one-star review. This was the very first restaurant I visited when I moved to the island -- and the first place I truly enjoyed the food. Since then, we've recommended it to so many friends and family who've come to visit. Recently, when my family and I weren't feeling well, we decided to order ramen to lift our spirits. We were genuinely excited to eat and share the food with our two young children (ages 2 and 1). But when we opened our order and were about to dig in, my husband found a large green worm-like larva in the food. Our appetite went completely out the window. Thankfully, we hadn't served the kids yet. We called the restaurant right away. The staff member was kind and apologetic, and said he had just started his shift but that we would be receiving a refund. This was on Thursday, 4/18/25 at around 4:20 PM. When we didn't see the refund reflected on our account after a couple of days, we called back. That time, we were told that a manager needed to approve it first. Later that day, someone called to confirm the refund had been processed. However, after more time passed and still no refund showed up, we contacted Grubhub -- only to be told that not only had they received no refund request, but that we had now passed their 48-hour window and were no longer eligible for one. While I understand that mistakes can happen, I do believe situations like this deserve careful attention and follow-through -- especially when it comes to food safety. I'm sure no one wants to find a worm in their meal, and when we choose to eat out, we're not just paying for the convenience -- we're placing trust in the restaurant to handle our food with care. That trust matters, especially for families with small children. I hope this feedback helps the restaurant reflect on its processes, both in the kitchen and in how customer concerns are handled. I will be contacting the Health Department, not out of spite, but because I believe it's important for the sake of transparency and prevention. And for those ordering through a third-party platform, I've learned that it's essential to notify both the restaurant and the delivery service right away -- even for pickup orders -- to ensure proper support. read more
Wanted some ramen and had read rave reviews about this place. Got here around 7pm and put my name down on the waitlist. It was a hour before we were seated. The broth on the ramen was really good! You can tell it was fresh. The Gyoza and tuna were tasty as well and were perfect appetizers! It was all well worth the hour wait! Good, fast and efficient service. Had the Yuzu ramen, spicy Yuzu ramen, and tonkatsu tan tan ramen. Both Yuzu ramens had almost no Yuzu flavor :[ The best part was the chicken inside the ramen, which was super tender. No offense but I wouldn't get any of these again. We got two of the ramens as a combo, one with spicy ahi and rice and the other with katsu curry and rice. Spicy ahi and katsu curry were both super average. Same with the chicken karaage and their ramen eggs. Not trying to be mean, just an honest review. My boyfriend and I order ramen delivery a lot and usually enjoy it, but this place was just average to us. Honestly, the things we liked most were the agedashi tofu and potato salad. Spicy menma was good but not spicy at all. Hey, at least we got to try it! Might be for other people. Just not for us, sorry. read more

Our first stop after we landed and the Ramen was beyond expectations. The parking lot and exterior of the building made us a little wary and parking may be a little difficult however, when we entered there was no wait as other had suggested. We were greeted and seated right away. The restaurant was somewhat busy with parties coming and going. The service was fast and attentive. I ordered the Tonkotsu Spicy Miso. The ramen was hot, noodle texture was perfect for my liking (chewy and skinny). The soup was very flavorful but if you like less saltiness, I would recommend asking for the lighter option if available for this ramen option. Overall, great ramen experience . read more

We made resys on Yelp. They were ready for us at our time. They are very efficient in getting people their meals and a table. There is also a sign up when you walk in. The ramen choices are great for everyone to pick what they like. They have many choices. I picked the curry ramen. I love curry, so it was delicious. And hubs got the Tonkatsu spicy ramen. The spice level was perfect. The space is adequate. Tables are spaced well and there is a bar that will fit maybe 5 people. The Parking can be a problem. There is a lot, but in a strip with other businesses. Don't park in the zippy lot across the way! They might tow you. read more
The decor is so cute. Ramen is so slay. The takoyaki was really good but can't go wrong with takoyaki. The agedashi tofu lacked a little flavor and was a bit pricey. The vegan ramen however was so good. The broth was indistinguishable from regular pork broth and the noodles soaked it up perfectly. read more

First time at this location. Yelpers had mentioned that they were at the Ala Moans food court. Any way my wife had made reservations so check in was a breeze. She had the Chicken Katsu Curry and I, the Tonkotsu Classic. We both enjoyed our meals. Pricey for ramen and curry. But wasn't disappointed at the taste.stay safe. read more

Someone asked me " What was your favorite meal in Hawaii "? RAMEN. Yep .. I know kind of interesting right. It was our last night in Oahu and we were craving ramen. I so loved that I was able to be added to the waist list on the Yelp app which literally saved us so much time. So convenient and love businesses that use the waitlist feature. Such a lifesaver !! Service was amazing . Everyone there was super nice and I can tell everyone that worked there loved there job and got along so well together. You don't see that much nowadays! Shoutout to Ruby for giving us excellent service & everyone working that night!! Ordered the spicy tonokotsu ramen! Literally amazing. The broth was so creamy and flavorful . You can tell they cooked that broth for hours. I was mindblown! The chashu pork was super tender and it was unlike any other chashu pork I've had in ramen. It tasted seared and had an extra element of that torched taste. It melted in my mouth. The egg was perfectly cooked . It was a perfect creamy soft egg yolk . The garlic chips went nicely with the noodles and all the elements in the bowl of ramen. The tonkotsu black garlic ramen was good as well but I liked my spicy tonkotsu better. For appetizers the Negi Charsiu and the tempura shrimp was delicious. The pork was nicely seasoned ( a bit salty but tasted yummy and filling ). The shrimp tempura came out piping hot and crisp. I'm a little bit torn with this place since it's literally the best ramen I've ever had in my life. Glad I was able to enjoy it on my last day in Hawaii. This place is "da bomb!" It was so flavorful and hearty. I would definitely recommend this place. Our server Kaedin was super friendly and awesome I wish they would open another restaurant in OC, CA. Our family enjoyed this place. We will definitely be back next time. LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!! read more
My friend requested to try a ramen joint in town so we decided upon this shop. I have heard of it but haven't been yet. They are located on Kapahulu near Papa Johns. We called ahead (like 15 min) and asked if they could save us a table as we were on the way. Luckily, it wasn't too crowded at the time and they were able to save a table for us. There is a parking lot with ample parking so you should be able to find a spot. If not, you could park nearby on the street. They asked for our vaccination cards and IDs and sat us after checking them. The menu is pretty big - from your typical ramen to vegan ramen broths, they have something for everyone! Not to mention a good amount of appetizers. We opted for ramen only - I got the black garlic tonkotsu. The food came FAST! Literally minutes after we ordered it came out. The vegan broths took a bit longer to come out but only a few minutes after the regular broths. I haven't had ramen in a while and I have to say that the broth was delicious! If you're a garlic lover, get the black garlic broth! It's very creamy and garlicky. Also, it comes topped with an onsen egg, charsiu, green onions and wood ear mushrooms. I'm not a huge ramen fan because I think it is pricey for what you get, but I will say that Onoya may have changed my mind! My friends who ordered the vegan tonkatsu also really liked theirs! Went out with my family to grab some dinner and one of our siblings reccomended Onoya Ramen to try! *Here's a little tip, if you are on your way there I suggest you try joining their waitlist because normally they have a really long line to get in! **My Order *Tonkotsu Spicy Ramen (9/10) The tonkotsu spicy ramen was SUPER good! It's a pork bone broth flavored with their house-made spicy sauce topped with garlic chips, green onion, charsiu, and seaweed! I had to ask if they could make my ramen mild, but it was still pretty spicy! The ramen was a perfect portion and the spicy sauce added a really nice kick to the ramen! I wouldn't mind getting this again! Overall, The food was amazing, price was reasonable! Staff was okay, they seated us really quickly however, once we were done with our meal it took them a really long time to give us our check. read more
What a great experience!! Definitely recommend checking this place out! I absolutely enjoyed this place and the ramen. The atmoshpere was so inviting, clean and upbeat. Great dinner at this place. Both my husband and I throughly enjoyed the experience. The staff was friendly and welcoming, the decor was inviting. And it was Great Ramen. Flavorful broth. Plenty of toppings. Spicy but not too rich. Noodles not over cooked. The Katsu was also very good. Crispy on the outside, tender and moist on the inside. Do they have udon too or just ramen?
I do not believe that they have udon--only ramen options, for noodle dishes.
Do all your both have MSG or Disodium or glutinate?
When I checked with them, they indicated there is no MSG in the vegan broth. (I can't speak for the rest.)
