After getting one of the worst hair cuts of my life, I decided it was time to look for a new salon. I did tons of research and finally chose to make an appointment at Onyx. I didn't know any of the stylists so I let the front desk people choose someone. I ended up with Cheryl and I could not be any happier with my hair now. She really listened to what I wanted and I'm actually surprised at how much I like my hair because it's shorter than I've ever had it. I was pretty upset when I realized that I would have to cut my hair shoulder length after my original hair cut but now I'm happy I did. Thank you so much Cheryl, I can finally wear my hair down. I will try to keep it simple. Nancy is the BEST and I adore her!! She has been cutting my hair for almost 20 years. Every appointment she makes my hair look awesome! No joke. I love this place. Cheryl did a great job cutting styling my hair. Sometimes you go to salons and ask for an inch off but they take three inches. In this case, I just asked for a little off and that's what I got. The best part is that the entire process was very calm and relaxing. She took her time washing, cutting and styling my hair. A word of advice: If you love your stylist/colorist, be sure that you have follow-up information in case they move elsewhere! Happily, I found that Brittni had moved to Onyx Salon. I decided to do a purple ombré and I found out that it was hard to find a colorist who does purple! I searched purple ombré on yelp, and I found Christina that way. I went in for my consult and was greeted with her warm personality. She books up way in advance so I suggest scheduling your consult first and preparing to get in a month later. On the day of my cut and color I found that Christina was super educated and knew exactly what she was doing! I felt good knowing that my hair was in the hands of someone who knew what they were doing. My appt wasn't boring as she kept me entertained w/ conversation and I also couldn't help but watch the whole process of watching my ratty hair transform into something beautiful! This was my first time coming in and I don't regret it one bit. I knew I wanted to reduce the amount of hair I had and wanted a little bit of length removed too. After explaining all of this to Yasamine during our consultation she made it happen. She recommended some long layers and to cut off a few inches from the bottom, just enough to keep my long length. From the moment I stepped in to the salon I was treated wonderfully too. The receptionist was super sweet and offered me a beverage in the few minutes before my appointment. And Yasamine took the time to get my haircut just right and finalized it with some loose curls to put it all together!! I just have to give Jennifer a stylist that works here an outstanding review. As a stylist Jennifer is so focused and hard working. I went to her because I loved my friend's highlights that were done by her. I just had my highlights and root touch up done by her and they are absolutely perfect. I had been getting root touch ups by Jennifer and it seems like the color lasts so much longer than anywhere else I had been. Oh also she cuts hair wonderfully too. This review is for Shawn. I heard of Shawn through a friend around 2012? I got my haircut several times and hair color with her and she's amazing! I went through a hiatus and let my hair grow until 2017 (I know, super long hair lol) and decided to cut my hair for the first time since 2013 but unfortunately Shawn wasn't available so I had to get my haircut somewhere else in Burlingame and I hated it (horrible haircut and she didn't even talk to me she just rushed through it). I decided to go shorter and Shawn was available! I went for a bob style hair cut and I love my hair. It was a pretty drastic change but she made my hair look on point lol. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she cut it exactly the way in the picture. She even remembered me after all those years lol I am never gonna see anyone else but her. She's very knowledgeable about hair styling and she's been doing hair for years. Shawn is very social and easy to talk to! I was not going to drive downtown SF where I have previously gone to..so I thought why not try out Onyx? I got in my car, hopped on the freeway and was at Onyx within 15 minutes. The parking was great, thankfully! I walked in and she greeted me with a big smile. I sat down and I told her what I wanted and told her I was open to some ideas as well. She gave me a great idea and told me exactly what she was going to do- wash, cut- and blow dry. She gets straight to work! She took off about 4 inches and my hair feels so much better. She did a wonderful job and finished in less than an hour and a half. Normally, I am at a salon for hours - even with just a haircut. I cannot say enough about her- she is amazing! I have not been to a stylist so talented in the last 15 years and my hair looks better than ever- after one appointment I was hooked! I went to Onyx about a month ago and asked to get my hair ombréd. Instead of ombré-ing my whole hair, my salonist gave my ombré highlights. At first I didn't like it so much, but as the the days went by, I realized by having my hair ombréd this way, it made it look more natural.
