I was excited to try this place namely because Yelp users gave it 4 stars and the name made it sound like something above and beyond your typical SA Chinese restaurant. Let's just say I was let down. No wait to sit down for lunch on Sat. Place is clean and looked nice. Crab Rangoon on the appetizer list says it all. This menu is typical "Americanized" Chinese fare which means you can expect everything to be mediocre at best. The fried rice was the saddest I have ever seen. Do you guys want to actually put anything in the fried rice? Maybe some egg? Are peas and carrots that expensive? Or is your idea of fried rice taking rice doused with soy sauce and tossing in a pan with oil? My spicy shredded beef and the wife's Hunan chicken tasted ok but rather bland. The name of the restaurant is Oolong Bistro. Unfortunately no Oolong tea. Anyone who says this is the best Chinese in SA doesn't know good Chinese. I won't be going back. I was looking for someplace to have a nice date night with my wife. While this restaurant is nice (decor, lighting, ambiance) the food was very blah. The hot & sour soup was neither hot or sour, and was barely warmer than Room temperature. The Gen. Tso was extremely bland and had almost no taste what so ever. I was very disappointed. There is another Chinese restaurant a couple of miles up the road where the food is amazing, but not much of a "date night" restaurant if you know what I mean. read more

After a long hiatus, I visited this spot with an empty stomach and high hopes. Unfortunately there were a few bumps in the road. The egg drop soup was very salty and my crab meat Rangoon was less than room temperature. I ordered Mongolian beef and was excited about the flavor until I tried chewing into my meat. I wasn't able to chew or swallow the beef except for a few pieces, and trust me I love Chinese food so that's saying something. IDK either it was a cheap cut, cut incorrectly, or both. So far we are fans of this Chinese bistro. We've only ordered to go since it's the easiest thing to do after a long day! The food we ordered (hot n sour soups, fried rice, veggie delight, chicken n broccoli, lemon chicken) was fresh and hot! I didn't care for the fried rice (didn't have much to it but a yellow fried rice with no veggies) The steamed rice was fresh and yummy with the chicken dishes. I would've liked to received a traditional fried rice with more than just rice. All in all great service and food was good. read more

Janie and I stopped to have lunch here...on a Saturday. We were greeted warmly and seated promptly. Our waitress was very good and explained our options thoroughly. Both of our orders were pretty good. If your wanting to eat at a Chinese restaurant that has a buffet, this is NOT the place. They don't have one! LOL! I was extremely disappointed with the food and the service. I ordered the sesame chicken. I guess there was a shortage of sesames because there was only three on there. The sauce was super sweet and tasted mostly like sugar and some of the chicken was cold. I couldn't tell if it was microwaved but that's what it tasted like. The waitress dropped the check when our food was at our table for maybe 5 minutes. After that she never checked on us again, and took forever for them to pick it up. This place is great! My family and I used to love Peng's on Bandera. We would go there about once a week and life was good. Then sadly a little over a year ago they closed and we were without a good Chinese restaurant. We tried several others and were never really happy... until Oolong! The food is great and the atmosphere is nice. I got the Szechuan beef and my wife for the sesame chicken and they were both great! We also tried both kids of soup (egg drop and hot and sour) and those were great too! The egg rolls weren't my favorite but I don't go to dinner for the egg rolls so that really didn't bother me. All in all I loved it. Assuming our next few visits are as good as our first visit we will be going back quite often! read more

I looove chinese food so I decided to try this place out. I have ordered quite a few things off of the menu and most of the entrees are not memorable. But their pork fried rice is soooo delish!! But... it is hit or miss. I admit that I am a rice snob... I like my rice grainy and dry not wet and mushy. The first few times I tried this place the rice was exceptional! But the last few times it has been clumpy, mushy and very moist. I dont know if its a different chef but it is very disappointing. This is a really nice, quaint little Chinese restaurant with a good lunch menu and fun atmosphere. As far as the ambiance is concerned, they don't play your usual Chinese buffet instrumental music. Listen carefully... they just might have an instrumental version of a Drake song playing, how neat! I thought it was really nice how they integrated a modern pop playlist with the traditional instrumental style that often serenades your meal at a Chinese restaurant. Back to the food. I ordered the Sweet and Sour chicken with fried rice and a side of Hot and Sour soup and an egg roll. Everything was relatively tasty, and the lunch prices were good as well. The rice fell just a bit short of my expectations... it didn't have much going for it except for the small amounts of egg tossed in it. The flavor could've easily passed for a side of Mexican rice at a Tex-Mex restaurant. (I still ate it. I like all kinds of rice, but I can see how this might be a let-down for some) The service here is awesome, though. We personally like Oolong's. I like their quiet atmosphere and prompt service. It's not far from our house and so far has been the cleanest and nicest Chinese restaurant that we've found in the area. It is a casual Chinese cafe that serves you quickly and with a smile. I've not had anything bad here. We always get soup (my favorite is won ton) and then an entree with rice and an eggroll. I usually get the sesame chicken and/or lemon chicken. Both are great but sesame is my favorite. My only con is that the fried rice could be improved on with some veggies and/or fried egg added to it, but the overall flavor is good. read more

My husband and I tried Oolong Chinese Bistro for our first time last night. From the time we entered we were treated so kindly. Our server Cheryl was an absolute joy and was very attentive and went above and beyond to make sure our experience was great. The food was absolutely delicious. We had crab rangoons and hot and sour soup to start which I think is one of the best soups around. Our entrées were lemon chicken and hunan beef, both delicious. They have a pretty comprehensive list of standard takeout dinner combos and give large portions for each plate so everyone in our house is happy with their meal. My wife and I stopped in here on the way back from the Picoso Peanut store. It was an unusual occurence, since she is no fan of Chinese food. She always orders lemon chicken without the lemon sauce. I guess you could say she eats chicken nuggets whenever she finds herself in a Chinese restaurant. I ordered the vegetarian delight with an egg roll and hot and sour soup. The soup was really good. It tasted freshly made, unlike many local restaurants where you can taste the ages in their reheated soup. The fried rice actually tasted like the fried rice I ate when living in Taiwan. It was really good. It was not the usual flavored steamed rice that has been sitting in the kitchen all day. I was devoid off vegetables and pieces of egg. I really enjoyed it. The eggroll was also very good. Altogether, I found the food here to be better than most Chinese restaurants in the area. I would have to try some other dishes before I would be willing to rate it any higher. I will say that our server was great. He was friendly and attentive. He also asked me if I wanted more tea instead of just filling it without asking. He actually said this, "Would you like more tea, sir, or do you have it sweetened just like you want it?" read more
