I'm giving this 3 stars only because it's a pretty cheap lunch special. I had the Szechuan chicken and hubby had the sesame chicken. lunch specials are served with your choice of steamed or fried rice, egg roll or crabmeat Rangoon, and egg drop or hot and sour soup. the soups were pretty salty, the rangoons were just ok, and we both chose steamed rice. the chicken was kinda lacking in taste and was hardly spicy. service was quick, the place was clean enough, and the restroom was clean and decent. don't know if I would come back. maybe if I was in the area and starving and needed something quick. maybe! read more

Loved the service we received tonight from Steven our server. He took the time to give us recommendations, go I we I residents and answer the onslaught of questions we tossed his way. The service was phenom al. He even stopped by on his way to another table to let us glance at some of the dishes he had attempted to describe to us. . The food was wonderful as always. Fresh and hot. Serving sizes are more than generous. I also tried the Oolong coconut mango tea. It was great. The ambiance is very welcoming and peaceful. This restaurant is clean and modern. Honestly the was the worst Chinese place I've ever gotten food from. The sweet and sour sauce was disgusting. It was bland and congealed. The chicken was dry and unseasoned. The egg rolls were soaked in grease and soggy. The wonton soup had a nice broth but again it was so greasy we couldn't eat it. Even the "fried" rice was gross. We spent far too much money at this place for it to be as bad as it was. So disappointed. read more

Great tasting food! The kids plate was perfect for my 10yr old. I had the combination plate, big in size. The egg rolls are amazing! Only thing is the dinner doesn't come with soup. But I can't bypass that for the great food! I strongly recommend this restaurant! Give it a try!! read more

Went last night with my mom. She wanted egg foo young. Called ahead to make sure not only did they serve it but if it came with bean sprouts. The lady said we do serve it but I don't know if we have bean sprouts. She went and checked and yes they had some. So we get there and our waiter says we usually don't put those in there. I said ok but we called and confirmed y'all have some please add them. He verifies and says ok. And of course it doesn't come with any and says "oh I forgot to add that", well duh??!! Never asked can we remake it just brought over a menu saying it doesn't come with them. We already had established that but we could add. Plate was $15.95 and sucked. My plate was sesame chicken that was dry and gross with sweet and sour shrimp that was soggy. Don't like the the waiter handled things. It was super slow he wasn't in a rush, just stupid I guess. Won't be going back! Owner came over and didn't help either. Place has gone down hill. read more

Egg drop soup tasted plasticity and stir fried veggies were in some type of gross sauce. Overall quality was not worth the price. Crab Rangoon's are hard to mess up but these were pretty gross and contained no crab. Won't be back. read more

My boyfriend brought this food to me an hyped it up so much. We received a gift card for Christmas so I was really excited we were finally using it. I personally got the sesame chicken lunch special and saved it in the fridge for dinner. That may have been my mistake. Despite heating up, the sesame sauce was jelly-like and my rice had ZERO flavor. My hopes of having a good first-time experience at the Oolong Chinese Bistro came up pretty damn Oo-short. New Year's Eve was the occasion, and my family and I were craving Chinese takeout. Wok Inn was our go-to place, but we decided to try something different. Spotted Oolong via a Google Maps search, saw some decent reviews there, found it was a 15-minute drive, and their menu was online. Called them and asked if they accepted takeout orders over the phone. The girl who answered said that they "only accept orders at the restaurant." So I drove there to find others waiting for the orders that they HAD ALREADY CALLED IN. Brushed it off and hoped that the food would redeem this place. Ordered three dinner specials (mongolian beef, lemon chicken & szechuan chicken) that came with fried rice and an eggroll. The fried rice looked strange. Little specks of yellow and orange rice...no carrots, peas, sprouts, bits of egg...just weird yellow (like turmeric shade) rice. Did I go to an Indian restaurant by mistake? The entrees were cold, swimming in oily sauce, didn't taste fresh and had zero flavor. I felt like I was eating a wax rendition of food that was meant to be enjoyed. The only thing that they got right were the eggrolls, which went from average to pretty good thanks to the chili garlic sauce I already had in the fridge. I didn't read the Yelp reviews for this place first, so I obviously took the hit for this choice. Never thought I'd have Chinese food that makes Panda Express look like the Oriental Pearl in San Francisco, but I did. So 2016 ended with a lousy dinner, some extra-strength Gas-X, and Ryan Seacrest blaring in my living room. Maybe the bright side was that I didn't get the Sesame Chicken with Dead Fly special that a previous reviewer ordered. Two stars: one for the short drive and one for the eggroll. A friend in Helotes brought me the hot and sour soup and an order of spring rolls- props for the large portions and low prices! Soup was a bit greasy for my liking, but the overall flavor was good. I really enjoyed the spring rolls though, they were crisp and stuffed with filling. These clearly tasted fresh and hand-made, not the bland mush I've found at other places. read more

This restaraunt is, without a doubt, the very best Chinese restaurant in San Antonio. I have had the Potstickers, crab rangoons, the won ton soup (which is perfect), the sweet and sour chicken, the sesame chicken, the general Tso's, and the pork fried rice on multiple occasions and each time this restaurant has brought fantastic tasing food. In addition to this, unlike other places in San Antonio that claim to serve Chinese food, the interior of this resaurant is awesome. It is clean, it smells good, the wait staff is pleasant, there is a guy who looks like the owner and each time my wife and I have been there (8 times) he has also been there. This is a very well run establishmnet with absolutely delicious food. If I had one complaint it would be that one time when I had the General Tso's chicken it was a lot spicier than the other times. It almost wiped out my palette entirely, but even though it was spicier for my liking, it still tasted delicious. That is rare. The interior is always pretty quiet and the restaurant is never at capacity so we have never had to wait. This is one reason I don't want to write this review, because once more people find out how amazing this food is, I have a feeling there could be a 30-45 minute wait some day. read more

I am a regular at Oolong when I visit my friend on this side of town. I recently had a bad experience at this once regular spot. My friend and I walk in starving and order egg drop soup, tea and sesame chicken. The waiter was very nice and funny. The soup came out first and was served pretty fast. It was not till my the sesame chicken came out that my friend looked horrified that I was concerned. I asked what was wrong and she showed me a piece of her chicken. I did not see anything at first and asked what she was pointing at and then realized there was a dead fly stuck to the bottom of her chicken. The manager was able to comp. my meal and my friends. They where very nice about it, but I won't be going back anytime soon. read more

Worse chinese food i've ever had. Both my husband and I got food poisoning and have not returned. Food was not warm; service was horrible. It took 10 mins to get menu's and about 15 mins after that to actually get our drinks in and we had to tell them that we were ready to order since our waiter practically ran away as soon as he got our drinks order. read more

This place has good solid food and friendly wait staff. One reviewer stated the best Chines in SA, that would be a stretch for sure, but it is tasty, atmosphere is relaxing, plenty of tables. Ive never had to wait for a seat on a weekend evening, as so many places have at peak times. I will continue to frequent this spot. Edit----- Had the Mongolian beef here and it was Devine! Some of the best Chinese I have had since I lived in SA. After moving from Houston 20 years ago, I am always on a quest for good Chinese. This place has a nice, affordable lunch menu. This my go-to spot after church. BEST fried rice ever! The dishes are pretty good, typical Chinee food. Standouts are the eggrolls (pork) and the chicken fired rice. Good portions, fair prices. Quick service, clean restaurant. Watch out for the Helotes police...there is a u-turn near the restaurant area of Oolong, Babe's, and Rome's pizza. U-turns are illegal there. There is always someone being pulled over and ticketed for exactly that. I learned the hard way. After speaking to people in line at court to sign up for defensive driving, I'd say 80% of everyone in line had the exact same thing happen to them. read more

An incredibly friendly English speaking hostess answers the phone to take my order - I think it's important to point that out because I knew my order would be correct & she'd be able to answer my questions about dishes w/o having a language barrier. She told me my order would be ready in 20-25 minutes and it was! When I walked in the hostess greeted me and asked if I was 'Donna'... I like personalized greetings. I ordered: Shrimp lomein - huge order, enough for 4 people if using as a side. Large shrimp and veggies throughout. The noodles were cooked perfectly. I had to add some soy sauce to make it really yummy. No biggie. Egg foo young - major sad face :-( it was overcooked... To the point of me being able to taste the charred edges. It should be almost mushy (still keeping a round shape though) but I needed a knife to cut it! The take out version came with the gravy on the side; I've not seen that before and it was extremely dry. The gravy was runny as well; not seen that either. I wouldn't order it again. There are 3 large patties, 1 for each person suffices. Hot and sour soup - yummy! I got the large size which lasted for 3 servings. It was very hot and sour, holding up to its name. Big thumbs up because we've been trying to find a local place that has a good quality hot and sour soup. Big pieces of tofu and other veggies. White rice - meh, it was so-so, a little dry. I sprinkled water on it and reheated it along with a wet paper towel to steam it, that definitely helped. Plus I'm strange & add duck sauce to my rice, so good :-) So I'd go back and try sit-down but I was pleased with the take out. It was fast, hot upon pick up, and my order was correct. I'd just not order the egg foo young again. The mustard in a ramekin (have to ask for it) is HOT. HOT. HOT. The packet stuff is mild. read more

For anyone else who enjoys actual flavor, say "so long" to the Oolong Chinese Bistro and seek out a more authentic, tasty experience elsewhere. The restaurant itself is very nice--nicely decorated, clean, friendly and fast staff, etc. However, I'm afraid the items on the menu cater to diners who are not seeking a flavorful experience. Though many Chinese eateries have 'Americanized' their dishes, Oolong takes this practice to a new level of blandness that is guaranteed to dissappoint if your taste buds enjoy any seasoning beyond salt. The fried rice is just white rice with soy sauce, the kung pao chicken tastes suspiciously like chicken stock with a dash of red pepper, the chicken and broccoli is simply chicken and broccoli with soy sauce, etc. read more

We used to visit Oolong on a monthly basis when we lived closer. It's been a while since I ate here, but had the chance to stop by for lunch after visiting my dentist nearby. Still one of my favorite Chinese places in town. Friendly service and good food is always present here. We see just about the same staff every time. The dining room is clean and well decorated with unique artwork. Very relaxing and pleasing atmosphere. We usually stop in for lunch, but dined during dinner too. The dinner menu has more options than the lunch choices. The lunch specials are decently priced and the portions are huge. I'm usually half way full after my soup. The hot sour soup is well seasoned, with a balance of spicy and tangy. I always get the Hunan Chicken or Beef because the vegetables are fresh and crunchy. The Sesame Chicken and Chicken Vegetables are good too. My wife always opts for any dish that has broccoli in it. The egg roll and rangoons are pretty standard for any Chinese restaurant. Their fried rice is plain, with egg and seasoning, no veggies...just how I like it. I get the vegetables from the entree so I don't like any in my rice. Their ice tea is always perfect too, not water down like some places. Service is good, not too over bearing but attentive. Overall, this place always delivers a good dining experience. Stopped in here for lunch after reading the reviews on Yelp. I got there about noon and there was no line. I was greeted promptly by very friendly staff and made to feel at home. I wasn't sure what to get, and had my choices down to two, so I asked my waitress for the answer. I ended up ordering the Szechuan Chicken lunch special with an egg roll and hot and sour soup. The portions were a wonderful size... not too big, but I was definitely not hungry when I finished... and the food was some of the best Chinese I have eaten in San Antonio. Honestly I was let down overall with this meal. 1) it's little pricey for the quality 2) the lids weren't properly secured to anything. Boyfriend and I wanted a mellow night in with some delivery chinese food. We ordered about 6 items: - 2 soups (egg drop and wonton) they were both ok, the lid wasnt properly secured on the egg drop and it spilled a bit, nothing to crazy though. - 1 order of spring rolls, honestly they were awesome. Not too dry, not too greasy. - 1 order of rangoons - also good, a little stale though. Like they had been sitting out for a while before being packaged up with our dinner. - 1 dinner combo of sweet and sour pork and chicken with fried rice. The lids on the sauces also slightly opened and spilled some. The sweet and sour items were soggy but also hard? if that makes sense. - 1 dinner combo of lemon chicken and sweet and sour shrimp with fried rice. The lemon chicken was dry, and the sweet and sour shrimp just wasn't very good. A few pieces had shells left on them under the fried portion. Neither portion of fried rice was worth eating either. We left it untouched. Now, I'd like to give the benefit of the doubt and assume it was just a bad night, and I'll likely try them again. With that said the food we had was flavorless, bland, and goopy! We ordered a vegetarian delight, chicken with b broccoli, and egg drop soup. The white sauce had too much starch in it, the veggies were overcooked, and literally it was like the cook added salt and nothing else- there was no character to this food, no life in the dishes, and it made me sad to eat which I did because I don't like to water food. Though the atmosphere is nice, the food sadly isn't as appealing. My server was nice and attentive. I ordered the crab ragoons to start. They came out piping hot but was barley any crab in them. Mostly cream cheese. The egg drop soup was the only thing I enjoyed. The lemon chicken was very dry and tasteless, also both fried rice and steamed rice followed. Far from good Chinese food.
