This place is super good! We went here for lunch and it did not disappoint. They were very quick and the staff was friendly. The first day I had the teriyaki chicken and rice. They gave a very healthy portion and it was very good. The next time we went here I had the spicy pork plate. It was also very good but it was definitely spicy. I usually don't mind spice but I could only eat half. The rice triangles are also good I had a spicy tuna one very similar to a tuna hand roll. The store had an offer, that if I order three, it comes with a free edamame. The food was unique; different from what I'm used to eating. The part that felt off about the rice ball was the rice to filling ratio. It's 50/50, so it was like eating a large nigiri-sushi. I'm the type, who doesn't eat much rice during dinner, so it was good. However, it could have been because I ordered the grilled salmon with the terikyaki, which compared to the flavor intense ume and kimchi, it had the lightest flavor. The components were delicious- the proteins were cooked well, sauced perfectly, and evenly dispersed; the rice was nice; the seaweed was crisp but also soft. I'd suggest 3 triangles if you are moderately hungry, so that'll net out to ~$13-15 for your meal. We got the short rib plate with rice and edamame and the 3 triangle box with short rib, crab, and spicy ahi tuna. All of the food was delicious and both meals came with edamame. The short rib was so flavorful and juicy. The crab was good but very simple. The ahi tuna was the highlight along with the short rib. Oori means "we" or "our" in Korean, which I think is kind of cute in the context of rice triangles bringing people together:) I love onigiri or samgak kimbap (literally "triangular seaweed rice"), and have tried it in both Japan and Korea. Oori offers a fusion of flavors, ranging from Japanese-American teriyaki, to authentic Korean gochu marinades, to exclusively American concepts like crab salad and brings rice triangles to Oakland. We UberEats-ed this order, so my review is a reflection of the food only, not the service, interior, etc. In all honesty, I would probably stay away from dining in here because parking in this area can be very hit or miss. A downfall of having our order through delivery was that the seaweed was super soggy by the time we received the food. That is not the store's fault, but if you've tried samgak kimbap even from a Korean 7-11, you'll know that the rice is separated from the seaweed to prevent this exact issue. You want a crispness of the seaweed to contrast with the sticky rice, not a chewiness or toughness. It does sort of ruin the mouth experience of it because you have to pull and rip at the toughened seaweed. If you're not careful, it'll make a huge mess and the filling will fall out since you aren't going to get precise bites. We ordered the following: Spicy Tofu and regular Tofu (gluten-free teriyaki) for my vegetarian boyfriend, and Crab, Unagi (eel), and short-rib for me. Our order of 5 rice triangles totaled about $18.87 after tax if I remember correctly, so depending on the filling, they run about $3.50-$4 each. My boyfriend said the tofu ones were pretty good. The Spicy Tofu was *really* spicy and he has a high spice tolerance, so that's saying something. He wasn't a huge fan of the teriyaki tofu--I didn't try it myself, but he said while it wasn't terrible, he probably wouldn't order it again. I sort of felt like my rice triangles were lacking in filling. The only one that was bursting from the seam like in the pictures was the short rib one. It was super tasty, if not a little salty. The flavors were spot-on to LA kalbi--sweet, salty, and savory. The quality of the meat was a little suspect. I often got pieces of gristle and complete fatty bits that I had to spit out. If you don't mind that, I would definitely recommend the kalbi, but unfortunately that's one of my pet peeves. The crab was delicious. Too much rice, but the lemon added a nice tang and the scallions were a flavorful touch as well. I would definitely get this again. The eel was the most disappointing. I LOVE unagi, whether it's in sushi or on a grill at kbbq. The portion was just too small however. It was just one small strip of unagi the size of my finger. Not enough for how much rice was served. They do offer a double portion of Unagi for $5.15, which I wish I'd gotten but on second thought, that price is broaching meal, rather than snack territory. My order of 3 came with a side of edadame. It was unseasoned and unmemorable, but a nice incentive to buy more rice triangles if you care. My 3 triangles were satisfying, but not filling; I could have gone for more. We were looking for a light dinner/snack, so it was perfect for our needs. I wish Oori would expand the vegetarian menu, like including egg, miso, or namul/vegetable-filled rice triangles in the future. It would also benefit them to add more "traditional" items that you might find in Korea or Japan like tuna mayo (gotta be canned, not sushi-grade), dried anchovy (stir-fried myulchi), etc. Despite some of its shortcomings regarding the ingredient quality and quantity, Oori overall tasted great and seems to be a pretty good deal for the unique menu it offers in the saturated world of sushi and poke joints. I would come back for more, but I might try other meat toppings like grilled salmon or spicy pork next time. read more

Great onigiri. The teriyaki sauce was a sweet thicker glaze and the rice was on the softer side than most onigiri, which I prefer. Personally I like the 1.unagi, 2.salmon, then 3.short rib as I think the seafood complements Japanese cuisine better. Oh and please use the lime. Wayyy better with it. Warning: the stuffing isn't completely covered in rice, so the stuffing may spill out if you're not careful. read more

They were not kidding around with the spice though, the spicy pork was definitely very spicy and I have a pretty high spice tolerance! I thought the food was reasonably priced as well. Delicious! I randomly walked by the store and it reminded me of Onigilly in San Francisco (same concept) so I went in for a snack. The nice thing is that the triangles are small so you can try more than one filling and have it as snack or meal. Walk in and self order using the touch screen pad, pay, and then wait for your order. Great spot for delicious, quick, cheap eats! Rockridge doesn't have a lot of quick, casual meal options as it's mainly sit-down restaurants, so I'm really happy that this place is here. Oori rice triangles specializes in onigiri, but it's a bit different than what you'd imagine if you've been to Japan or had onigiri at other restaurants. In my experience onigiri are usually served cold, and there isn't much meat inside. These are more Hawaiian-style I'd say - the triangles are large and filled with a lot of meat! I was super hungry, so I got the 4 triangle box and chose crab, spicy ahi, unagi, and grilled salmon. If you order 3 or more triangles, it comes with some edamame. Out of the ones I've tried, the spicy ahi and the unagi were my favorite. The spicy ahi is like a spicy ahi poke in a spicy mayo sauce, and the unagi is like typical unagi you'd get at a sushi restaurant. My least favorite was the crab, it was like the imitation crab you get inside sushi. Four triangles was enough to be a pretty large meal in my opinion, so you might be fine with 2 or 3 depending on your appetite. For 4 it was around $20 which may seem pricey but is typical for Rockridge. Highly recommend this place if you live nearby. read more

The restaurant was covid safe. Everyone was wearing masks and you order from the tablet at the front. I got three onigiri and the concept was really interesting. The rice was created into a boat shaped where the protein/filling was in that boat. It was easy to eat with my hands and they are definitely generous with the filling.
