The rice is nicely tucked with layers of toppings and wrapped nicely like a blanket triangularly. You can select various stuffings ranging from spicy pork - tofu. Aside from the triangular rice wrap, you can have rice bowl and salad. Today, for my first, I had grilled salmon, spicy shrimps, and crab triangles rolls. Rice is nicely cooked with a bit of seasoning and it is not saggy like a hand roll. The grilled salmon was done pleasantly with a taste of grilled mark. The crab meat was ok, lack some salt, the spicy shrimp had creamy sriracha mayo, but need the extra kicks. I tried the short rib, spicy shrimp, crab, teriyaki chicken, unagi, and spicy ahi tuna! The short rib and chicken teriyaki was filled with meat! You definitely get your money's worth of meat with these rice triangles! Meat was flavorful and delicious! They gave me such a small piece of unagi.. don't get a single, get a double unagi triangle or else you'll be eating just rice! Crab triangle had a little too much mayo but the spicy shrimp and spicy tuna (not really spicy) had a good amount of sauce and generation portion of meat! Rice triangles??? Well, I'm diggin' it! I've never had this concoction before but after having them today, I've become an instant fan! Oori Rice Triangles is the new kid on the block! They've moved into the old Brooklyn Bagel building and have taken over. And thank GAWD because to be honest... I was never a fan of that Brooklyn Bagel place to begin with. This is Oori's second location (their main location is in Albany off of Solano Ave). They are a Japanese and Korean fusion restaurant that specializes in rice triangles and protein plates. The rice triangles consist of white rice and meat (or tofu) and are wrapped in roasted seaweed. It's very similar to Hawaiian musubi and hand rolled sushi. They have a nice variety of proteins available ranging from short rib to ahi tuna. They also have vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options available on the menu (score!). I ended up ordering three of their rice triangles: short rib, spicy shrimp, and crab. They give you a side of mixed greens when you order 3 or more of the triangles. However, it wasn't much of a "side" at all. Just a couple of green leafs and a few edamame beans. In the end, I really could have done without it because the three rolls by themselves were pretty filling. The crab is described as a "Canadian rock crab with lemon aioli" but looked and tasted more like a crab salad. It was generally pretty tasty but was my least favorite out of the three. The spicy shrimp was a hit! The spiciness is subtle but the flavor profile is great! I really enjoyed the spicy aioli sauce that it was cooked with. The short rib was by far my favorite out of all three! The short rib is a Korean style kalbi; my frickin' FAVORITE! Love me some Korean kalbi! It was tender and packed with so much flavor! It tasted perfect amongst the rice and nori! I seriously could have just eaten a plate of those short ribs and been a happy little camper! I will definitely by coming back to try out their short rib plate next time. The drink selection is bottled juices and water only and everything seems to be served in to-go containers whether you eat there or are taking it to go. They've really maximized the space inside compared to when it was Brooklyn Bagel. They've got counter seating all along the windows and one big table for communal seating. The staff was nice but you can tell that they were a bit bored. I mean, they've only been open for 2 days and are still in their soft opening, so I understand. I ate there but it was kind of awkward. There's no music and I was the only customer in there. I could feel one of the girl's eyes on me, just staring the entire time. I know that this will change soon once it gets busier but it was really uncomfortable. Plus, no music? Y'all need to get some music up in there please! Random, but: I spotted a live mosquito just chillin' on one of the windowsills. It wasn't dirty inside, but if they plan on leaving the door open, they should probably be a bit more mindful of bugs flying in. Yeah... I'm being nitpicking, but damnit... it's a review! Anyways, they don't have any paper to-go menus but they do have a menu listed on their website and posted on the back wall. Price-wise I was really impressed. In the neighborhood again so thought we would stop in here again. Last time we were here was almost a year ago before Covid started. Now you can't eat inside but you can still order food to go. I love the big portions here of their plate lunches. We ordered spicy pork and Teriyaki chicken. The portions were nice and big. They give you rice and edamame along with a few tsukemono with your order. The spicy pork was just as good as the time before. The teriyaki chicken was a little dry but good and you can ask for a little additional sauce on the side because when they make a regular order they don't add much sauce on the chicken. My often picky eater, 12 year old daughter ate here with a friend and her family prior to shelter in place. She had been asking to have it again ever since. Finally we decided to give them a try. We ordered takeout food which was easy to order on their website. The kids ordered a variety of rice triangles and rice bowls and my partner and I tried the tacos and rice bowls. I've walked passed this place wanting to try it and I finally got to try it. I ordered three rice triangles - unagi, spicy tuna, and spicy pork. The have a really good rice-to-filling ratio. It was the perfect amount of both. The seaweed wrap was a little sloppy but honestly didn't mind because the triangles stayed together as I ate. The spicy tuna was good. It tasted like a standard tuna poke. Not the freshest fish but you get what you pay for ($4+). The unagi triangle had a lot more unagi than I was expecting which was great. It could have used more unagi sauce but the eel was cooked well. Can't complain too much when I'm paying $4+ for a generous amount of unagi. The spicy pork was definitely the most flavorful. I was super excited to see a place that sold onigiri (Japanese rice triangles), abeit with the restaurant's own little untraditional twist on them! It wasn't too difficult to find street parking around here at 6pm on a Friday, as Oori is on the corner of a not-too-busy street and a residential neighborhood. There's basically no human interaction - the first thing you do when you go in is to tap in your order on the little kiosks set up where the cashier would normally be. Most things on the menu were decently priced, with the exception of each individual onigiri, which varied from $3-4 depending on the filling you wanted in them. I chose the three-triangle set (with Spicy Shrimp, Spicy Ahi Tuna, and Chicken Teriyaki) for ~$11, while my friend chose the three-topping rice plate (with Spicy Pork, Chicken Teriyaki, and Short Rib) for ~$12. The wait was maybe around 10 minutes for the rice plate, and a few minutes longer for my three-triangle set, considering there were only two other customers there at peak dinner hours. After getting our food, I was underwhelmed at the taste of the onigiri - for a Japanese-Korean fusion place, the filling for the rice triangles lacked enough spiciness or rich flavor, and simply tasted like the protein for a poki bowl added on top of just rice. The seaweed wrapped on the outside was hard to bite into as they had waited a little too long to put out the order, so it had become a bit soggy quite quickly. I had a side of edamame, but they too lacked enough seasoning (typical places I've seen usually season with a bit more salt and pepper, but I could tolerate the bland edamame here - after all, there's only so much you can do with beans). My friend's rice plate on the other hand, had a lot more food for only maybe 50 cents more than I paid for, and she ordered the spicy pork, which was richer in flavor than the spicy ahi tuna and spicy shrimp. I'll definitely be getting the rice plate the next time I visit! Otherwise, the store is very bright and has plenty of seating. There's a water and condiments station, and a restroom in the back. Disappointing. Not the traditional samgak kimbap - Korean style rice triangles, that I was craving and not really onigiri either. The triangles I tried ranged from unappetizing to mediocre and the Korean/Japanese/American fusion just didn't work for me. The good: love the free barley tea, food tasted fresh, rice was soft and orders came out quickly. The fresh limes were unexpected and a nice addition to the fish triangles and the condiment table had a nice selection of toppings. The bad: the kimchi tasted like it had spicy tomato pasta sauce mixed into it, very strange, and the seaweed was tough and chewy, not crisp like I expect for rice triangles, and the sauce on salmon was too sugary and not very flavorful. Though the menu and the ordering receipt lists the plate as "Ahi Tuna Small", and there are other plates labeled as spicy, fun fact, though it doesn't say it, the Ahi Tuna is in fact, very spicy. An amazing spot for a quick n tasty lunch!! This place is sort of like a Japanese/sorta Korean version of Koja Kitchen because of its Western influenced menu and flavors (case in point: the tacos). My favorite item that I ordered was the spicy pork plate, which was as delicious as it was affordable and contained a hefty portion of white rice and sweet+spicy pork grilled to perfection, and a side of steamed edamame. I ordered the small size and it was still a looot of food :) and I like how they gave sriracha on the side because I like my meat spicy asf!! I also got a double unagi rice triangle and was surprised to see that they raised the prices recently (website menu isn't accurate!). I purposefully chose the double unagi because I assumed that it would contain more eel but not completely sure if that's the case because it still didn't seem like much? The had contactless ordering/payment using a tablet and offered hand sanitizer and box of disposable gloves for customers to use. I loooove onigiri and have been craving those tasty lil triangles quite a bit lately so it was some kinda serendipitous something that I realized I always hit my lowest lows when I haven't eaten from a restaurant in a while. I hadn't been to a restaurant in a few weeks so when I got out of therapy today I was like, ok, what's open right this very instant and will cost me a minimal amount of dollars? Voila! I headed over to College Ave, found parking right away, and walked in to order every veggie and seafood triangle on their menu. Most triangles are between $2-3.50 and they apparently had a happy hour special where your first triangle is only $1. Sweeet. It took like maybe 3 minutes for them to whip up my order (order #51) fresh... even though some other guy tried to friggin take it and then bitched about why his order wasn't up. Uh, well... lemme tell ya, GUY, it's because they called 51 and you're 52. That's how numbers work, jag off. Granted, the staff here seemed so plentiful that it was more of a nonplussed vibe than a welcoming one, but they got the job done quickly... for me at least. I took my food to go bc I'd already used up my lunch hour at therapy and needed to get back to work but inside is super casual and communal in terms of atmosphere. I made it back to my car and decided it was dumb to wait to eat them all so I picked one up as an appetizer onigiri. It was... good. Not my fave I've ever had, but as a snack it was great. The rice was hot and the crab salad was chilled and I think it would've been better with cold rice, but it was also like 90 degrees outside so that prob played a part in my opinion. My order wasn't totally correct. Unagi - They didn't add the unagi triangle to my order (or bill, so nbd). Spicy kimchi - I ordered came as just the regular kimchi Spicy tofu - wasn't spicy at all but was packed with filling. Salmon - was chock full of salmon. Def a good deal there. Spicy Ahi Tuna - I think this was my favorite as it was actually spicy and was a great portion with fresh tasting ahi. Spicy Shrimp - the shrimp was uncomfortably chewy to the point where I wasn't even sure which filling I was eating. Not sure I'd get this one again. Crab - The crab is crab salad and it's not crazy flavorful but it is still tasty and a nice treat. All in all, the 6 rice triangles I did get with the happy hour special was a little over $20 and filled me up as a meal.
