    The bananas foster waffle!

The food was soooooo good! I got an omelet, it was cheesy and savory and amazing! The service was easy, I love a self serve coffee place and counter order, just makes it easier! The vibe here is exactly what you would hope for in a little Black Mountain gem and this is definitely a gem!

This place is so good. We were driving down to Asheville to go hiking and decided to take a pit stop in Black Mountain and I am so glad we did. The food was very fresh and you can tell it's made with love! Staff is nice and the place was clean.

My first visit to Black Mountain and we had breakfast here. You are assigned a table by the hostess and then stand in line to order and the server delivers to your table. I had the garden veg avocado toast with a side of grits. My son ordered the full size biscuits and gravy. Others had omelettes with home fries. À plus for all. Impressed that they'd crisped the biscuits before pouring the gravy. We grabbed some pastries for later and I can say the cheesecake brownie was also delicious. Very friendly service even at a very busy time.

Service and ambiance was relatively speedy. I got the G.O.A.T.S. omelet, which is made with goat cheese, red onion, arugula, roasted tomatoes and sausage, alongside herbed home fries and GF bread. The home fries were seasoned and cooked beautifully, the bread was soft with a great addition of blackberry orange jam, but the omelet was a complete powerhouse. It felt like it was designed for a goat cheese lover like me, and the other flavors worked out super well. Overall, this is where to go for brunch in Black Mountain.

If you're reading this, EAT HERE. I will definitely be going back. Pictured is the southern style omelet (ham, onion, tomato, pimento cheese) home fries, homemade sourdough, and chicken and waffle. Pimento cheese makes everything 10/10. Home fries were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The chicken was sourced locally and the outside was perfectly crisp. Definitely will order both of these again!

Wowzers. Now this was the perfect brunch place. I got the classic brunch plate with a biscuit and holy moly it was fabulous. I got the seasonal jam which was berry flavored and the biscuit was so fuffy and delicious. The staff was so warm and welcoming. We came in as a group of 8 and everyone LOVED their meals. Plates were clean. Can't recommend this place enough!!

Tucked just off the Main Street is the best breakfast/brunch stop. Creative, flavorful combinations with local sourced foods, cozy seating, and great brewed coffee served with a smile. Although we strolled in 20 minutes before closing, we were welcomed inside and had a wonderful meal. Don't miss out on this hidden gem.

Food: My Bourbon Street Waffle really hit the spot on this rainy morning, piled high with succulent bananas and doused liberally with flavorful sauce. It came with a choice of proteins - the Smiling Hara tempeh "bacon" was my pick and although I'm not a huge tempeh fan, this was good, it's saltiness providing a nice contrast to the sweetness of the dish. Coffee: Some other Black Mtn. Breakfast spots have been dinged for watery, flavorless java. There's no excuse for that in this town, the home of the original Dripolator! No worries, Open Oven features Dynamite Roasting Co. brews, and my cup of Sumatra was kickin'. Service: Friendly, fast, competent. 'Nuff said. Ambience: Homey, intimate, feels like family.

While visiting Asheville, we took a day trip to Black Mountain! So thankful that we stumbled upon this place! Counter service... so go in and order. They'll give you a table assignment and bring your food to you. We split a scone that they warmed up and shared the chicken and waffles. E writing was delicious. Loved the outdoor space they have.!

That's fine in normal cold weather, but at 22 degrees the overhead heaters just don't quite cut it. I think this part of the experience could use a little revision. My wife had pancakes with vanilla syrup and sausage. I ordered the classic breakfast with eggs, grits, sausage, and toast. Everything was very flavorful. My only complaint was that my food was lukewarm. It seemed like my food may have been finished and sat for a few minutes while my wife's pancakes were completed. On a cold morning, I would have preferred a hotter meal, the grits weren't warm enough to melt the butter, and the toast was cold, so I didn't even attempt to butter it. That said, even with the temperature issue, the food was still very tasty, and given how cold it was outside, I'm willing to let it slide. Everything arrived quickly, and the restaurant itself is very quaint, set in an old home that is very clean. On our first visit, they offered chocolate chip cookies to go, and they were excellent! They didn't have any this time, but we'll be back again to try our luck. To those about to nosh, I salute you!!

The cheeseboard really is a nice way to kick off the meal, and highly recommend it--so many goodies to choose from. I love how Resy also allows you to specify where in the restaurant you'd like to sit depending on availability--we went with the high top nook spot, which is really special/cozy for two people. The Rwandan pour over I had a couple days ago was full-bodied and delicious, with deep red fruit notes. While some of their pastries look decent, there is something about their Viennoiserie (laminated dough) products that they just seem to not understand. Every one of their croissants I've tried were underproved, which causes an undesirable internal texture that is dense and not open and light like croissants are supposed to be. They are also very "bread like", which shows that they are losing control of the temperature of the dough and butter during the lamination process. This causes the butter to melt into the dough, rather than keeping the intended layers. This is what causes the crumb of the croissant to be more bread like, rather than the light honeycomb structure you find in a well-crafted croissant. Their other products, assorted buns, cinnamon rolls, etc., look decent, but I haven't tried much of those as they aren't really what I enjoy. I hope at some point they can dial in their understanding of the laminated dough process as it would only elevate and improve what they offer. However, they seem to be busy, so they may be fine with delivering a lower quality product in that department. I also understand that my perspective may be different than the average customer as I'm a professional pastry chef and consultant. I'm not sharing this review to be negative, but to give an honest opinion that may spark this establishment to look deeper into their process and find ways to offer even more to their customers.
