For a few years, Hector was the property manager of our building, and did a great job! He was quick to respond to our requests for services, often attending to them himself. Recently my wife and I purchased our first home, and although we did not use Hector as our Realtor (we got a handsome credit by doing a dual agency with the seller's Realtor), he was instrumental in not only helping us work with our landlord in severing our lease, but also provided me with great counsel throughout the home-buying process - and for free. He talked me off of many ledges, made me aware of the realities of purchasing a home, gave me insight into the neighborhood, the (often illogical) process of the lending institution, closing costs, tax pro-ration, transfer stamps, and anything else I could think of. When we looked at a rental place that was managed by Open Path, the process went mostly smooth. The agent was accommodating to our schedules, and things went OK. Once we moved in, the process of handling maintenance requests was a disaster. Hector seems to be the guy handing them, and I'm not sure if he's unqualified, in-over-his-head, or what. Maintenance requests are left unanswered. If you do get an answer, sometimes it's some snarky response, or just a bunch of talk to try and placate you. It's incredibly frustrating, because it's a stupid problem for Open Path to have. It's not that difficult to make things run well when doing building maintenance. Stuff goes wrong in these old Chicago structures. Plan for it, and manage your resources accordingly. If something unexpected happens, take action and get it fixed. It's not rocket science. read more

One of the best customer service experiences I can honestly say I have ever had. Originally tasked to rent out my current apartment that I am leaving, this agency immediately took me up as a client and, within a few days, helped me find a fantastic apartment that fit my scope! To top things off, the agent I was with, Natalie, insisted on giving me a ride to the train station to help me get home. Also the building I wished to rent in had rooms going fast as it had just reopened, so she even put through some amazing extra effort to gather my application and documents after her next appointment was finished! I called Open Path Reality & spoke with Hector abt Rodent issues I was having in my space. Later that week Hector, a handy man, and a lady named Nilda came out to inspect my space & the basement of the building where an exterminator I paid for notified me the rodents were entering through & leaving droppings. Hector notified me he saw some issues & openings that were of concern & didn't know how soon he would be able to get a crew out to rectify the situation. I was nervous & distraught I couldn't bare not knowing when they would try to work on the situation. But Nilda was the absolute best & understanding! To my surprise she came by the next day BY HERSELF to start cleaning & moving things out the basement. She seemed so concerned & I can't thank her enough for coming. It was a very nasty & dirty job. God Bless her Heart. She even stated she would come back the next week to finish! She was so sweet & helpful! So glad Open Path Reality found her! Thanks again Nilda! (This review was long overdue meant to be posted back in December. I'm not sure what's going on but It is now February and I'm still waiting on maintenance to come and finish the job they promised. I would absolutely recommend Open Path Realty, especially Nikki Hurt, to anyone needing assistance in the Chicago area! My boyfriend and I moved to Chicago from out of state, so we had to lease a space sight unseen. We tried to contacted multiple agents/agencies and had difficulty even getting anyone on the phone. It was so bad that a month before the move we still didn't even have leads. We finally contacted Nikki Hurt at Open Path Realty, who responded immediately. I wish we would have found her sooner! She worked with us to find multiple options that fit our budget and needs. She was extremely attentive before, during and even after we signed the lease. She even went so far as to visit apartments that we were interested in, film each and send us the videos, so we could see the apartments for ourselves. I contacted Nikki with Open Path Realty to help find a tenant for my condo in old town. Right away she returned my call, listened to my needs, and provided a very honest and realistic assessment of what I could expect as far as monthly rent, timing, etc. This was the first time I've rented my condo out, so I had very little knowledge of what to expect. Based on other reviews, we got in touch with Nikki Hurt recently when we found out that we had to move to Chicago on short notice for work. She sent us tons of high-quality listings to look through--lots better than my husband was finding on apartments.com. We had a small hiccup when the day we'd planned for seeing places didn't work out--possibly because I didn't confirm with Nikki in time--but she scheduled us to see five of our top choices the following day. During the showings, Nikki was a huge help, giving us lots of details about the neighborhoods (she knows Wicker Park/Bucktown/Ukrainian Village etc. extremely well) and asking smart questions at each place we saw (we kept forgetting to ask about security deposit, pet fees, move in dates, etc., but she also noticed lots of other features of each place). Not only did she line up great options for us, she took the time to help us evaluate them afterwards. Great communication and follow up via email and text. We really got the sense that she was looking out for our interests and helping us solve our problem. Overall, I recommend Nikki extremely highly. read more

This realty company is a fraud!! They have rats and roaches all over the building. There appliances are out of date. The building smelled like cigarette smoke all day. When asked for maintenance for a leaking fridge and oven that did not work, it took months for repair that eventually did not work. The electricity they provided was illegal. They took electricity for another person box. They did not have any meters. My lease ended and I was looking for another apartment so I was renting on a month to month basis. When I moved out the end of September, the company charged me an extra month for October when I was no longer staying there. There excuse was I never gave them a 30 notice when in reality they knew I was looking for another apartment! Now my credit is low with a deragatory report from open path realty!! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS FRAUD COMAPNY TO ANYONE!! I WILL NEVER RENT FROM THEM AGAIN! read more

My wife & I purchased a home and kept our condo in Rogers Park (realizing we would have to sell it at a loss in the current market) as a investment property to rent out and generate some income. Of-course to save some money we advertise the unit ourselves -no luck. We tried a nearby rental agency, however, they kept pushing applicants that any landlord would agree were under qualified -poor credit score, sporadic employment history and too many previous addresses. It became very frustrating, the rental season was ending, we were entering the fall weather which meant it would become even more difficult to rent our unit. A co-worker recommended Hector from Open Path Realty. We were expecting for him to tell us, in order to rent out the unit quickly to drop the asking amount and lower our expected requirements for prospect tenants. Surprisingly, it was quite the opposite, not only did he agree with our requirements, he informed us that our unit can be rented $50.00 over the asking amount. Hector came through, our condo was rented 45 days later at an additional $50.00 more then what we were asking per month. We were so happy with his service and honesty, we took him up on his offer of managing our unit. I have to say...my wife and I are happy with there property management thus far. We are glad to have been introduced to Hector and his company, and we gladly recommend him and his company Open Path Realty to any one looking for a rental service or property management! read more

I dealt with OPR when trying to find a condo rental in chicago. Specifically I dealt with "Nikki" who was completely unprofessional. I contacted OPR about a 2bed 1.5 bath rental unit they had available in the West Loop. Unfortunately that unit had been rented but Nikki reached out and said another unit in the building same floorplan was now available and she could show my partner and I the property Sunday afternoon. We showed up Sunday afternoon and Nikki had apparently scheduled about 12-15 people to see the same property at the same time. COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL. None of us knew that we had been signed up for some sort of impromptu open house. Even worse though (Sellers beware) Nikki didn't say one word to anyone who went up to view the unit. She spent the entire time chatting with her colleague. So my partner and I left without knowing a single thing about fees, application, deposits etc. Now - the unit. The unit we saw OPR had listed as a 2bd 1.5 bath. The unit was actually a 1bd with a tiny den (big enough to fit a twin mattress) with no closet. I'm pretty sure legally they are not supposed to list it as a bedroom if it doesn't have a closet. Seems shady for sure. I would in NO WAY use Nikki at OPR and honestly given OPR's somewhat questionable listing I wouldn't use the company as a whole after that encounter. read more

We recently rented a privately owned condo in Chicago through Open Path Realty. When renting a condo there is a ton of paperwork to go through and a lot of details to be discussed. You'll get packets from the broker, and packets from the management office....it's a lot to keep track of. Initially this was overwhelming and weren't walked through the process very well but THEN Tayna V was put on our case and she was fantastic!!! She answered all of my *many* emails incredibly quickly and made the process of getting my keys very easy. She also helped me communicate with my condo building's management office who I could tell she had a good relationship with. This made all the difference. This is my 5th move in 5 1/2 years and it never gets less stressful. Having someone like Tanya there to go through it with you is so important, and I was so glad to have her as our point of contact. Update: From 5 stars to 1. First of all, the one guy there that I had to call for anything maintenance related was a total prick. IF he responded he was never nice about it and would do jerky things like send me pictures of what came out of our clogged pipes. On top of that, a few months into our lease we received word that the owner of our condo wanted to sell. I was in my first trimester of pregnancy, terribly sick, and for about 6 months I had to deal with showings multiple times a week. We were assured though that we would not have to leave before our lease was up. Then suddenly, it was sold and we were told they wanted us out in 30 days. At this point my husband was travelling 90% of the time and I was 8 months pregnant, being told I had to pack up and move despite our contract. They wanted us to even fill holes, paint and clean meticulously even though they knew I was alone and pregnant. We were able to negotiate an extension and free rent but it was a huge ordeal. read more

Honestly the worst landlord and realty company ever. Not helpful at all. Would never respond to our requests in a timely fashion. I think the worst aspect though was in the final month when they would schedule viewings. Never gave us any sort of notification and then would be rude when we said we weren't given any sort of notice. Any time I even talked to Hector he was always condescending and extremely rude.
