Went here last Friday and I was really confused why we were going to a coffee shop on a Friday night. BUT IT WAS AMAZING. There was live music, and the place was packed (which is always a good sign). It this isn't the most perfect coffee shop, then I don't know what is! It is not your average, library-quiet coffee shop (although it may be that way on the weekdays), but it was lively and fun and had amazing drinks. It is on the south side of Dallas, but if you are a coffee connoisseur, you need to check this place out. I know where I will be next week! I don't venture to this part of town all that often, but one day I was in the area and decided to drop by. Located downstairs in the Southside at Lamar building, Opening Bell is a pretty cool place to grab a cup of coffee and hang out with friends. The night I was there a band was playing an acoustic set and the crowd was pretty relaxed. The coffee shop is stock market themed, which I thought might be cheesy but ended up being pretty unobtrusive. The coffee was nothing out of the ordinary, but the atmosphere was pretty fun, so I'd probably visit this place again. read more

tonight is saw the seedy underbelly of the standup comic world...and it smells like coffee. great coffee, that is. my stand-up comic friend invited me to his show at the opening bell. 24 miles outta my way, i came and i was not disappointed. surprised actually. of the 20-odd people there, i was the only one who WASNT a standup comic. they all had pen and paper. critiquing and helping each other. i wish i had pen and paper. instead, i had some tastey coffee and a front row seat. this place is quaint and smells great. wanna practice your standup? wanna practice standing up. or sitting down and watching the city go by outside. either way, you'll see a part of the city most seldom do. i'd recommend this place for getting away from it all without actually going to far. it's a good place to read, a nice segway in a date, or a warm place to come in outta the cold. if you can find it, the opening bell will open a whole new world to you. read more

located in the old historic sears building. walking distance from downtown dallas. nice lofty set up. basement floor of the loft building. i like the open area set up. located next to a jamaican eatery and a quick shop.....all on the same floor. then lofts are on the above floors. the service is good. cozy. great coffeehouse feel. the coffees are tasty. i usually go for a latte. the products they use in their lattes are higher end and delicious. they also serve david rio chai teas and this is a big deal in and of itself. david rio chai teas are the BEST you'll ever have. opening bell is a great experience. live music rocks. they usually bring in good bands too read more

Seriously? So bad. I tried it twice even though the first few times were so terrible. I thought they could redeem themselves. Coffee is terrible. Great coffeehouse. I cannot decide what the best part about this place is...the staff, the vibe, the atmosphere or the coffee. Thumbs way up for all of them. Opening Bell is located in the basement level of an old warehouse. Think exposed brick walls with cool art, lots of tables, chairs, and couches, and an incredibly inspired decor and coffee menu. Looks like they have many open mic nights so it would be a cool place to sit around, drink some joe and take in some local musicians' talents. One time, while staying with a friend in a downtown dallas apt, I woke up at the crack of dawn and wandered his huge building. Little did I know I would randomly wander into an open coffee shop on the bottom floor at the crack of dawn- that had all of the coffee I really needed at that way too early hour. Opening Bell is the BOMB! In fact, the reason I moved into Southside on Lamar was largely because I got to know the people at Opening Bell. When it came time to move to Dallas, it was a no brainer. Having a great coffee shop in the basement of the building you live in is heavenly. There is a real sense of community. Sometimes I go hang out without drinking coffee or eating. No one looks at me crazy as they can see how much I do spend there at other times. I generally do not like live music in coffee houses. OB is the exception because they wait until later in the evening after the work is done. The owner and staff know your name, they are friendly and the whole "Austin" vibe is great (I am from Austin so I know the Austin vibe!!). read more

I never in a million years would've thought this place was here, it's kind of out of the way; and it's great! Their house drip is really good, this is the first time in a while I'm thinking maybe a second cup is in order. The space is pretty alright too; blend of decor will give an eye something to do while staring into space, not getting work done, as will the windows on the street level where one can spy many a pair of legs stroll by. Based on the signed photos and flyers all over the place, I'd say this place sees its fair share of live music and performances over the course of the week. This place eludes my usual characterizations. It's a bit suburban, but it also has a loft feel to it, due to its exposed columns and such. It's one room, but it's fairly large, and it accommodates a variety of seating types. Also, there's a stage and a projection screen, so I'm assuming there are open-mic and movie evenings. As the name suggests, they have an affinity for Wall Street. They have copies of The Journal, monopoly, chess, and a computer available; their drinks fall under the categories of liquid and frozen "assets." You may find liquid assets dry, but their lattes are actually quite enjoyable. read more

The perfect place to end a honeymoon day. We felt at home in this coffee/art/hipster hub, with delicious iced coffee, cafe au lait, and romantic ambiance. They have games, great art, and awesome bands. It was just open mic night, but you could tell that the up and coming artists were the ones playing here- not just random open night singers. From violins to guitars, the music was awesome, and the people were great too. They serve different coffees along with good bottled beers and wines, so there were many different types of people, all enjoying the ambiance, drinks, art and music. This place reminds me of the famous Bluebird Cafe in Nashville.....where when you perform, people actually listen and pay attention. It's nice to be offered a stage where people aren't talking and clanking cups and plates and walking around ignoring you as their background music...Opening Bell is for music lovers. People who actually appreciate the art of song writing and give you their undivided attention. This place has a great local neighborhood feel. Great place to get a small bite for lunch. They have live music in the evenings and looks like a great place to have a casual unpretentious date. Good (not great!) breakfast tacos, but for $1.00 I didn't expect earth shattering. The coffee isn't incredible, but is good enough to enjoy and return. Really unique place. At first when I walked in it seemed a bit overwhelming to understand what they offered. Part of The menu sort of was hidden behind the counter. My first drink was an ice americano. Not the greatest and lacked ice. I then tried a java blended drink which was great and filling. I couldn't even finish it but enjoyed it. I came here in the middle of this past Saturday's Etsy Jingle Bash at Gilly's. I loved the vibe here, it was everything one would want in a local coffee shop. It had tables, couches, loveseats, sofas, high top tables, etc. It was warm and had a lot of seating. The menu not only offered beverages, but a breakfast and a lunch menu. My sister got their chicken salad sandwich on croissant bread which is what they advertise that they're known for, and it was HUGE! You definitely get your moneys worth on that bad boy! The spinach quiche was delightful and just the right size! Although there didn't seem to be many workers there that day and the place seemed to be hoppin' the staff delivered to our table our food and beverages quickly! I really wish I were closer to this place, because I would be back to study or just have coffee dates with friends! read more

Really cool coffee shop and really unique location which is downstairs in the basement. Interior is decorated with stock themed decor bc the owner used to work with stocks(?). That's what I was told by the guy behind the counter who was also super chill and friendly. The atmosphere is really comfortable as I just hung out with friends. Ordered Vanilla Chai (?) I cant quite rmbr bc they had 3 different types I think which I recommend! Friends had Peach Iced Tea and Hot Chocolate. Both of which were tasty and my friend who had the peach iced tea doesnt even like peach! Also got their chicken salad sandwiches to munch on and they were really good as well.
