Thanks to the Yelp community and friends for educating me on Polish (and Russian) cuisine, for without this -- I may not have enjoyed my visit here as much. After great experiences at U Gazdy and Bacowka, I was excited to try another Polish restaurant. Like the other choices, I was expecting a very pleasant experience with nice dinnerware / silverware, good decorations, friendly servers, good plating, generous portions, and comfortable seating all at a good price. Opolska did not disappoint. Overall, I found the food here to be a bit more muted in flavor, but also a bit healthier than the other Polish restaurants I've visited. It's almost like a more refined version of what you find in Polish Delis, but made with slightly better ingredients and arranged nicely to make for good photos. I recommend the cutlet here for a flavorful but healthy treat. It was quite tender and crispy at the same time, with a minimal amount of seasoning. The kebab (more like shawarma) was also very tender and flavorful, with the taste of rosemary clearly shining through the dish. The size of the zapiekanka was a bit surprising, being a full size entree despite the lower price. The sides such as fries and cucumber salad are relatively light in flavor, but were an enjoyable accompaniment with the entrees. Overall, a good dining experience at a reasonable price. I would have liked to see more texture contrast and possibly a little more seasoning in the food -- but I enjoyed the items I tried anyway and look forward to returning again some day. read more

This was my first time going to a Polish restaurant. Ended up there by accident because a nearby place didn't work out. Our party mostly ordered the platter which was a really good way to sample the different foods and everything was good. The restaurant was a bit loud with TVs going with soccer games . From the complimentary warm, hearty, Polish bread served with homemade spread and several dill pickle spears, to the very tasty and generously portioned tripe soup & finally the main course of Hungarian potato pancake. Potato pancake was perfect: crispy outside, soft inside, perfectly seasoned, & as big as the plate & folded in half to cover the delicious goulash which was tender and tasty. It was a bustling Saturday evening when I entered. After a few minutes, I was greeted by a friendly and very accommodating hostess. She saw that I was alone and seated me by the side bar away from the hustle and bustle which I appreciated. The waiter who took my order was very helpful and attentive. I ordered the stew with a side of dumplings and beets. The stew meat was tender and delicious. The dumplings were expertly made and great with the stew. The beets were cold but went well with the meal. The hostess mentioned to me that their food was made from scratch. You could really tell it. The ambience was lively and family friendly. So glad we found this gem just 5 minutes away from us! We decided to try it on a whim after seeing it featured in a Facebook post by the Village of Schaumburg. I brought takeout to my parents' house last weekend and loved it so much we ordered again this weekend. We've had: Polish Plate, Breaded Chicken Cutlet, Meatballs, cucumber salad, blueberry pierogis, potato pierogis, and sweet cheese pierogis. All fantastic! We especially love the Polish Plate, everything on it is delicious, and usually makes for good leftovers too. If dining in, the inside is beautifully decorated, a total gem in a strip mall. This place is AMAZING!! Food is so so good!! We ordered the stuffed cabbage soup, (never heard of it & wow it was delicious!) Pierogi, goulash, my dad had a breaded swiss steak with cabbage & beets on side. It was SO good! I also had the dumplings and sauce as a side. I am very picky about my Polish food because my mom would cook the best food, but this restaurant definitely has home cooked meals! Like my grandma & mom would make. I needed to travel from the Twin Cities to Schaumburg for work. I associate Chicagoland with Polish food (they can keep their pizza casserole). Couldn't rent a car on my expense account, so I relied on Uber Eats. I was surprised to discover that yes! there was a Polish restaurant that delivered to my workplace! I ordered the Polish Platter (think that was the name). It came with a small-ish Gołąbki with mushroom gravy. That was a bit of a revelation, since I usually have Gołąbki with tomato gravy. It was delicious. Also included were perfect potato/cheese Pierogi, an incredible Polish sausage, and a small cabbage salad. It also came with potato pancakes, which were substantial, but not exactly to my taste. The next time I ordered from them I subbed out the pancakes for mashed potatoes. Dunno how you folks who live in Chicagoland rate this place, but there is nothing like it in the Twin Cities (which also has a large Polish/Eastern European/Russian population). Trips down there for work are not very pleasant - but they're made much more pleasant knowing that Opolska is waiting for me! =) read more

I travel around the region, so I dine out a couple days a week and consult Yelp wherever I am. This was listed as a new Polish restaurant with positive reviews. One reviewer mentioned that the cabbage rolls came with a mushroom sauce rather than the more traditional tomato sauce which is what tipped the scales for me - and indeed the mushroom sauce was a nice compliment. I'm of Polish ancestry (half), so I enjoy Polish cuisine though I didn't have it regularly at home growing up. I'm particularly fond of potato pancakes and am always in search of great ones. Consequently I ordered the Polish sampler which would give me two potato pancakes to try along with Polish sausage, perogies and that cabbage roll with mushroom sauce. I believe I was the only person in the restaurant who didn't speak Polish. And English appeared to be the server's second language (she was charming). We had a communication disconnect when I tried to order the two sides that were supposed to come with the dinner. What I understood from her explanation was that the Polish sampler came with a salad, so I didn't get any sides. I was a bit disappointed because I wanted to try a couple side salads. Much to my delight the salad was also a sampler of four salads. When the meal arrived I had to start with the potato pancakes. I intended to take couple bites, then move around the plate. But they were SO delicious that I devoured one right away (I'll be back for more. They have a Hungarian potato pancake which is one of there specialties - potato pancakes smothered in goulash - next time). Needless to say everything was excellent. The food. The warm, hospitality. (Wife & Mother-in-Law) I started with a Polish and for the life of me I cant remember...It was something like the Golden Goose. I could not find it on the menu online. I ordered the Polish Plate which had potato cakes, sausage, pierogi's and stuffed cabbage. My wife had the stuffed cabbage, one of her favorites, but this time with the tomato sauce instead of the mushroom gravy. The dinner was good but I didn't think over the top good compare to some of the other Polish restaurants I've eaten. The atmosphere was all Polish, staff speaking in tongue, the music was polish, authentic but made me feel like an outsider, maybe it was me. Now when I went online to find the name of the beer, I noticed the menu was showing a Pork Cutlet. I don't recall seeing that on the menu at the restaurant, hope I didn't overlook it. I'm currently eating the Placek Po Zbujnicku (Hungarian Pancake) from this restaurant, and this will definitely go into my rotation. I am impressed by the attention to detail: for this Hungarian pancake, they packed the stew and pancake separately so that the pancake remains crisp. The stew itself was great: not salty, tender meat, and great tasting. This restaurant is a gem. When I was there, a family was celebrating and they had a dessert made of the crepes, with a candle and a sparkler for full effect. So, once again, a new Polish business has popped up in the Schaumburg area and once again it might be another success. I really do like the food and restaurant, but it was jam packed. Its a very small space and people were lining up outside the door. Its a good headache to have and I am sure the owner probably told himself "Uh oh...what to do?" They will have to expand because I am sure people will be coming from all over the area as an alternative to Backowka which is less then a 3 minute drive. My parents are from Poland so I grew up with Polish food. I thought the food was good, not great, but good. I still prefer Backowka, but the Opolska is a bit cheaper though. I even think the beer cheaper. The golumpki (stuffed cabbage) has mushroom sauce instead of tomato sauce that I noticed other polish restaurants use in the area. I grew up with mushroom sauce so that was not a problem. The decor was very nice, but again, it was jam packed in there so they will have to do something about it. However, it won't stop me from coming back. It a great idea to have a polish restaurant opening up there especially since it is right next to Deli4You (a Polish grocery store). read more

Planned a nice anniversary dinner called ahead and Opolska said No reservations but failed to tell me they close at 8:00pm on a Saturday night What restaurant closes at a peek dinner hour?? We arrived at 7:20 get our dinner and suddenly they are vacuuming around us, stacking chairs on tables brought our check before we were finished No offers of refills lights went out and not in a romantic way and I said to my husband I think they are closing and want us out! Sure enough. I give them a 2 for service and. 4 star for food. Was very good seasoned perfectly. Just wish on a Saturday night they could have stayed open till 9-10:00 at least.
