I've always hated going to the eye doctor and have always thought optometrist were incredibly cold, rude and impatient (NYC doctors are the worst!), but Dr. Tawil changed that within one appointment. He's so friendly, open, funny and just someone you want to be around. He has such positive energy and is really good! So...I've always had issues with my contact lenses and told him that my contacts just never feel that comfortable,. He instantly knew that I had been wearing the wrong size contacts for years and tadaaa...contacts feel great. Did I mention he was great?!? My wife and I visited OPT Optometric yesterday to find her a frame. We get one set a year and her old ones are broken so this set was going to have to be worn every day - we wanted to make sure she was comfortable in them. We were greeted by Peter and after letting him know what we were after he took a visual assessment of my wife's facial structure and pulled out a varied selection of frames for us to try. He quickly narrowed down her tastes and went back to get a more focused selection. In just a few minutes it became readily apparent that Peter is an absolute professional in his field. He was very vocal, describing to us in professional terms the characteristics my wife liked and those she didn't. He gave fashion advice in a supportive and appreciated manner. Although Peter spent a significant amount of time with us, at no point did we feel pressured to make a decision. Peter's goal wasn't to sell us an expensive frame or even a frame at all. While visiting San Francisco from New York state, I dropped in on a busy day without an appointment to ask for help because my glasses frames had gotten badly bent out of shape. The staff at OPT Optometric were wonderfully gracious and welcoming. Everyone there seems to feel like family. They apologized to me for having to wait while they served the people ahead of me, even though they were real customers and I was just asking a favor. I just moved to the city a few months ago and luckily found this new office. I've always had problems wearing contact lenses. I want to rip them out of my eyes after a couple hours. Dr. Tawil, who is very easy to talk to, listened to my past experiences and decided to fit me with new disposable contacts for my astigmatism. They are super comfortable, and I see better than ever. I am so happy! Other impressions: Hip selection of frames. I didn't need new glasses, but I found two pairs that I really like thanks to Karen. They did a great job designing this place. Nice modern decor. Dr. Tawil makes great conversation. He explains all the doctor stuff professionally, but he also makes you laugh like you've known each other for years. I will follow Karen Flynn wherever she goes. I have been wearing glasses since freshman year in College and once I found her....I will never go to anyone else. The process of picking glasses is so difficult at times...but from the first time I went to her, she makes it so painless. I have always felt it is one of the most important purchases you make....everyone sees your glasses but they might not notice your clothes or shoes. When she first meets you, you can tell she is already sizing you up for a pair of glasses. What would look good with your facial structure, your eyes, your hair, your coloring....she then goes and picks several choices for....has you try them on...eliminates the ones that don't look good....finds replacements....and then helps you choose the final one or usually two in my case. AND when she adjusts the glasses, she almost always gets it right the first time. Before I started going to her, I always had to return to the optometrist to get them adjust once, maybe twice. Aside from being a professional at what she does, she is kind, friendly, helpful, thoughtful, funny and patient. You never feel rushed. And I have watched her with other clients, she is like that with each and every one. It is a joy to work with her in my search for the right pair of glasses. While I have never gone to Dr. Philip Tawil (because I have had the same Opthomologist since I was a child) I find him to be kind, friendly, funny and professional in all of my dealings with him. If my guy retires, which I just heard might be soon, I will be going to Dr. Philip. They make an amazing team . I love their new space on Valencia...it is so inviting and warm. And I love all the vintage choices in glasses. I just ordered two new vintage sunglasses. Karen of course helped me pick them out....can't wait to pick them up and see these great people again. I could not have been happier with the service and care I received. The front staff are super helpful and always greet me by name. Dr. Tawil is a gem. I have a very complicated case, and he did everything in his power get me the best possible prescription. He sat with me for an extended period multiple times. I never felt rushed or that I was an inconvenience. We tired to go with scleral lenses, but in the end they didn't work for me. He was always upfront about the costs (I had to pay for the lenses regardless if they helped), and set reasonable expectations. He even gave me free lenses. I live in St. Louis and had been going to Eye Gotcha for about five years, swinging by for an eye exam and new frames once a year when I'm in town to visit my daughters. I've been wearing glasses for 60 years, and before finding Karen, I always struggled with finding new frames in St. Louis. My choices were limited and dull, but upon discovering Karen five years ago, she manages to always recommend frames that are flattering with a touch of adventure, and I feel great wearing them. I add a new pair or two of frames to my collection each year, and manage to make my St. Louis friends envious. And Dr. Tawil is so much more knowledgeable and accessible than any of the eye doctors I had seen in St. Louis. When I learned that Dr. Tawil and Karen were now at OPT Optometric, I decided to check out their new shop. And this year's visit was the best ever. I love their new shop - it's adorably decorated and they have more frames to choose from than ever - and Karen greeted me with a cup of hot tea. I have been going to optometrists and ophthalmologists for 20 years, and this is by far the best optometric practice I have ever been to. Dr. Tawil, Todd, and Karen are friendly, personable, caring, knowledgable, and they will go out of their way to make sure you get what you need and save you money. My eyes have been particularly difficult, but they have had no problem with 3 appointments in a month, constantly ordering new trial lenses, and sending my glasses back for adjustments. I have been a customer of OPT for a couple of years and have spent over a thousand dollars here. I recently lost my glasses and needed a cheap replacement so I went to Costco. I called OPT to ask for my prescription to be faxed to Costco and emailed to me. I waited fifteen minutes and called again. When I told Caleb that I was waiting for the fax still, he informed me that the doctor was in 'appointments all day.' So, you can't ask for a signature between patients? When I asked if he could tell me how long it would be, like ten more minutes or an hour he told me he couldn't say. I called a third time, fifty minutes after my initial call, and informed them I was waiting. Finally, almost an hour after my initial call, they faxed the prescription. Still no email and they didn't fax my contact lens prescription. I like supporting small businesses but this was really awful customer service. I won't be coming back to OPT. read more

I love this place! Despite loving my experience at another op shop, they could never get the fit of my glasses right. I was walking past OPT one day and decided to see if they could help, and they did! Karen is amazing at fitting specs!
