Open Monday through Saturday, Optikos is super busy for good reason, but preferred time slots are generally easy to get and visits tend to run on schedule. Store personnel are up front with costs, and nothing is ever pushed unless it actually benefits us to do so with whatever our insurance plan happens to already cover. FYI I HAD THIS REVIEW PENDING SINCE 2013....AND DECIDED I SHOULD JUST POST IT!! hmm my relationship with Optikos started out okay until they started making me waste my time by driving there multiple times for contact lens fittings they should have done while I was there the first time. I unfortunately decided to choose the $99 special which includes a contact lens exam and 3 months supply of contact lenses from cooper vision (first time trying it). I figured this might be the best bet since it was already going to cost me $60 for an eye exam anyways, might as well get some lenses too. I had originally been using Acuvue Oasys which I wore to my first lens exam. I wish my doctor had also checked to see how that fit while I was there instead of just checking the recommended Cooper Vision. She had even told me if I was not happy with the CooperVision I can go back to the Acuvue Oasys and it wasn't a problem. They of course did not even have the Cooper Vision lenses in my prescription so I had to wait another week to come back to get them. Meanwhile my doctor who I believe was named Julia told me to test out the Cooper Vision to make sure it worked fine. After trying it out for the typical 2 weeks, I realized that I did not like them and wanted to go back to Acuvue Oasis. I called Optikos and told them I did not want the Cooper Vision anymore and wanted the Acuvue Oasys instead. They told me I had to come back for another contact lens fitting to make sure the Acuvue Oasys was okay...what??? So I made another appointment for today, went down there, waited another 15 minutes after my original appointed time to have them see if my Acuvue Oasys lenses were fine which they were. Now they charged me an extra $26 for my box of Acuvue Oasys because apparently they charge an insane amount of money for one box $35 each (hello 1-800 contacts- only $26 per box) and I still had the one unused box of Cooper Vision (which I probably should have brought with me to the appointment so I wouldn't have to go back again). So now I have to make ANOTHER trip to Optikos so they can refund the money for the unused box of Cooper Vision lenses. At this rate I might as well have just gone to a different place closer to where I live and paid a little more for the contact lens exam to make up for the gas I'm wasting going back and forth. Upon reading all of the Yelp reviews, I decided to visit Optikos for eyewear needs. The eye exam was quick and efficient, I had a copy of the Prada frames I was requiring, however I was informed these were not available and consequently chose another frame from the selection in the store. One week later my glasses were ready and the lenses were perfect, however I noticed that the frames were not made by Prada as I had anticipated. They were by a Japanese designer, had I known this when I ordered them I would have gone elsewhere as I knew I could get the frames I originally wanted from another store. The change in designer was not indicated to me, only for me to find out when I got the frames home. Today, I went to the store to explain and unfortunately they were not able to nelp with this problem. In future I will go elsewhere. read more

What a pleasant experience... that pretty much sums it up. From the minute I stepped into the store I was attended to and respected. The front office personnel handed me some basic eye health history & patience privacy sheets to fill out after which I was promptly seen by Dr. Yoo. Dr. Yoo, what else can you ask for in an Optometrist? Professional, courteous, thorough, & an all around lovely person. She performed my exam, found the right contacts that fit perfectly & made sure I was taken care of. I'm near-sighted. Which means I'm not so blind that I look like a mole without my glasses, but I do need them to see, especially behind the wheel, and especially at night. Because I am, at best, sporadically employed, I hardly ever have health insurance, and because of that hadn't even been to the optometrist since 2008. And the glasses I had been wearing recently had a 12-year-old prescription in them. All this to say that it was high time I got a new pair of specs, but like all good procrastinators, I was dragging my feet. Fate forced its hand, however, when a couple of weeks ago, I pulled the Luddite move of losing my glasses. I was at LAMILL, and could not, under any circumstances, find them when I was ready to leave. After much hand-wringing, I turned to Yelp, and remembered that I actually had Optikos bookmarked for such an occasion. So I made an appointment for Saturday at 2:30. I arrived about ten minutes early, was told to fill out a form and was then very promptly taken into the exam room, where the doctor looked over my eyeballs and performed the standard vision test. She proclaimed my eyes healthy and then took me back out to the main room to see if they had the lenses I need in stock. They did, so we hunted for the right set of frames and I was then told to hang out for ten minutes and my glasses would be done. Whoa! The whole thing took less than 30 minutes! I love my new frames. They're much more flattering than old ones and they give me what I like to refer to as my lesbian newscaster look (think Rachel Maddow). Best of all, the exam + frames + anti-glare coating (for my astigmatism) came to a grand total of $120. Not bad for this poor urchin. HIGHLY recommend this place. read more

So happy with my experience here. I found this place through a recommendation from another Yelper, and I went in and had an exam with Dr. Joo. She was extremely thorough and discovered that I would need two separate prescriptions. I ended up getting the exam + prescription + two pairs of lenses + two pairs of frames + anti-glare coating for $200 without insurance. I think this is a great deal because frames can be expensive, and I found some attractive ones in their deal section. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. Parking info: From Wilshire, turn left onto Serrano (if coming from the East -- or right if you are coming from the West). Then almost immediately turn left into parking structure. Get ticket and park on either first floor (unmarked spots) or second floor. Enter mall on north side of garage. Office is in back right corner of the first floor. Our family of six, all who wear glasses or contacts, have been coming to Optikos for many years. We have seen a few different optometrists, all who are great! The doctor we see most frequently is Dr. Julie Chang. She is always so nice, but more importantly she is really knowledgeable and can communicate things in a way that you can understand. She also keeps up with technology, as we have gone from having to dilate our eyes when we first started coming to now just having this special camera take a high-resolution picture of our retina. No more blurry vision and ugly sunglasses after our exam. About a year ago, Dr. Chang recommended this new kind of contact for our kids called Ortho-K. They temporarily correct your vision while wearing them at night so you don't need to wear anything during the day. It sounded too good to be true, but as our kids play sports and are active, we decided to try it. Dr. Chang also told us Ortho-K would slow down how quickly our kids' eyes would get worse. Both my husband and I are really near-sighted (-9.0 range), and every year, the kids needed a new prescription for glasses/contacts. Once, just six months after getting new glasses, my youngest daughter had trouble seeing the white board at school because her eyes had gotten a lot worse. We needed to buy a new pair of glasses completely out of pocket. It's been over a year since we started Ortho-K, and we are incredibly happy with the results. After just a week or so of wearing the contacts at night, three of our four kids had perfect vision. One of our kids has an astigmatism, and it took a little longer for this one to get dialed in. Our kids love it, since they can see great during the day without wearing anything in their eyes. They can play sports, go swimming, etc. with no worries of a contact popping out or glasses flying off their faces during a tennis match. The best part is after a year, our kids eyes have either not gotten any worse or just got a slight bit worse, which has never happened before. read more

So I woke up the other morning and was like "Psh I need to get some glasses like now." I've been saying it for a whiiiiile and I knew that morning was the day. Now for the record, I haven't had an eye exam or prescription glasses in 20 yrs...yes, that long. No exaggeration. So I didn't know what the hell they were gonna do to my eyeballs because technology has clearly advanced quite a bit. So I searched yelp and found awesome reviews for THIS place which I've walked passed a gazillion times assuming it was going to be super expensive. WRONG. Yelpers, you did not fail me. I called at 10:30am...got an appt for 11:20...say whaaaaaat?! I got there and had Dr. Yoo who was so sweet and comforting. I've got a thing about eyeballs...only a few years back did I learn how to put Visine in my eyes. So yeah Dr. Yoo was awesome and thorough and patient with me when doing the exam. The gentleman helping me pick frames was also patient and helpful. He showed me something with "bling". I said "eww no bling. I dont do bling." he laughed and showed me simple ones. Then he showed me these Prada ones and Tom Ford ones which I was mad at him for bc I loved the style but they were over what I was trying to spend (but only jokingly mad) but he was not at all pushy which I super appreciated. He showed me many options for the $99 special. And there are a lot of options. At the end I got the exam and frames for $99...yeah. Happy! I paid an extra $20 for dilation exam bc I wanted to go further into my eye health and another $20 for non-glare/anti-scratch lenses bc I'm clumsy. All of that I walked out paying $139 and was out of there in an hour. And it wouldve been less time but again I did the dilation test. So basically yeah I'll be going back to Dr. Yoo for my eye health :) read more

I can't say enough good about this place. If you are like myself and are lacking vision insurance, as well as being on an extreme budget, then this is a perfect place for you. They are quick, attentive, and so nice here. I paid $120 for an eye exam, a pair of glasses, and lenses with scratch resistant coating. That is just unheard of! Not only that, but I was in and out of there (including the eye exam) in under 45 minutes. You should probably check this place out guys. You definitely will be happy you did. read more

Wow, I am truly amazed by Optikos and so happy my sister referred me! They squeezed me in for a last minute appointment for contact lenses. They are extremely fast, organized, polite and efficient. I can't explain how disorganized my old optometrist was, my god this was a breath of fresh air. Prices are also really great! My eye exam was $70, 3 month supply of daily lenses is $120, my old place is $170. I shared with Julie that my eyes feel dry with my current lenses and she gave me a sample pack of a new brand. The service is friendly, the exams are quick, and everything was great. I didn't give them the full fiver because it took a while for me to get my glasses from them. The hubs and I went in on the same day to get our eyes checked and order our glasses. They told me that it would take 7-10 business days. I called them after two weeks to see if there was any news on our glasses. They told me that they had the hubs' but not mine. It was about three weeks after our exam that I called in confusion and frustration only to be told, "Oh! It's here! That's strange... but it's here." "Why didn't anyone call me?" "Hmmm... well, they're here!" ... That little incident aside, I was happy with everything else. They offer a great selection of designs, and I found them to be very helpful. read more

The eye exam itself was thorough and the optometrist was clear in my options. They have this machine that allows imaging without dilating your eyes which is always a necessary hassle for someone like me who borders legally blind and live off of contacts and have to find someone to drive me. I came in after being a poor candidate for LASIK. My last eye exam was perhaps 5 years ago, and my contact lens have run out earlier this year. I hated having to wait a few months for money to get better for contacts and a new Rx. My dog ate my more current Rx glasses, so life sucked with wearing 7 year-old glasses. Appointment was at 2:30PM on a Wednesday. I was out in 30 minutes. Dr. Julie Chang saw me right away. She was personable and knowledgeable, and gave me two kinds of contacts to try out: Biofinity and Avaira. My Rx wasn't in stock for my left eye in Biofinity, so she improvised. It was $80 for the exam (extra because of my astigmatism) and trial lens. I would give her 5 stars for the service, but for the pricing is why I'd give it 4. I was quoted $140 for a 6-month supply of Biofinity, about $180 for Avaira. They said I can receive a discount if I order through them; but you could get a year's worth supply of Biofinity for about $200 if you shop around. So for those with astigmatism: the pricing would be pretty much the same here as it would in most places. The exam, however, is definitely cheaper than other places I've been to. I guess it evens out to some degree, but it's definitely not a steal deal. read more

The exam is quick and efficient, but still sufficient and thorough at the same time. I've been coming here for the past 3 years for exams and just ordering contacts too. So it's now my second time at Optikos, and I still stand by my 5-star rating. 1. Appt was on-time. 2. Dr. Julie Chang was so kind to keep trying to achieve the best eyesight possible for me by trying numerous lenses (you know, that "one-and-two & three-and-four"). You may say, "That's her job!" Nope, I'm old enough that I've seen MANY optometrists, and she's definitely thorough (maybe a perfectionist?). 3. She was patient as ever, as I kept requesting, "One more time, please? I can't tell the difference between one-and-two (or "three-and-four")." 4. She answered ALL MY Qs. She didn't give me any attitude or show impatience, and she was very knowledgeable. 5. So darn affordable! My single-vision, no astigmatism eye exam was $60! Goodbye forever, Costco! (I had been paying $89 FOREVER). 6. She gave me a couple of "circle lenses" (for those who don't know, google it) to try out. My sister wears them, and she's always bought them in Asia, but Dr. Chang says that they're now available in US. Thank you, Dr. Chang! 7. The middle-aged salesman (dunno his name) recommended good, quality lenses and a frame for cheap. There was no upsells here. Perfect pair of glasses at an affordable price. Btw, the last time I was there, I had misplaced my validated parking ticket and when I told one of the salesman (a young man), HE TRACED MY STEPS WITH ME! *tear* They're a great group of people, so give them a try, but make sure to let them know your budget when getting glasses. Even though they take walk- ins, be sure to make an appointment first because they do get quite busy on the weekends and you may have to wait a little bit. I had a pleasant experience at Optikos Optometry yesterday. I walked in without an appointment and was immediately seen by staff optometrist Dr. Julie Chang for a comprehensive eye exam. She was knowledgeable, patient, and quite affable. I paid a total of $158 for an exam (Rx good for 2 years), new Ray-Ban optical frames (marked down 30%) and corrective lenses with anti-reflective coating. Very reasonable! Lady Luck herself must've been on my side to have found Dr. Julie Chang O.D & Optikos Optometry. I totally agree with all the 5 star reviews on this place (there seems to be ONLY 5 stars reviews too!) Julie's a great optometrist. I've been to several in San Gabriel that I've had horrible experiences with that having found Julie was a dream come true. She's incredibly knowledgeable, professional, thoughtful, and thorough. I explained to her my eyesight issues and desire to transition to soft contacts. We did a couple of tests and she gave me a pair of trial lens and to come back to re-examine for eyesight changes. I've been wearing gas permeable lens so it takes a few days for my eyesight to stabilize hence the follow on examinations. She also made sure to go over what my insurance plan offers (exams are 100% covered if you have VSP!). Second check up went really well and I got another sample to hold me over until my last exam. The last exam is really a courtesy because she's trying to help me get a year's worth of free contacts that's covered by my insurance, something she didn't have to do. I also lost a contact ...and she was really nice about it and replaced it for free with another similiar contact lens. I really appreciate doctors who have the patient's best interest at heart. I feel like rubbing my eyes and hoping it's not a dream! Whenever I leave the office, she always asks me if I need parking validation. =) My hubby was here too...and though he got a pair of glasses in China...he's coming here because the staff is just so great (and NOT pushy). I've been needing and avoiding contacts for years. YEARS! I finally accepted that I can no longer live without their assistance. So, I started yelping optometrists in La. Last year I visited South Korea and had an amazing eye exam there and bought cheap chic glasses. I really liked the way that Koreans deal with eyes, so I searched throughout K-town to find a Korean optometrist. I saw the reviews for this place and decided to try it. Yes, oh yes! What a masterful decision! I just walked out of there after losing only 50minutes and $99. I gained an eye exam, three months worth of contacts, contact solution and vision! They were sensational. They helped me out and made sure I could remove and insert my contacts before letting me leave. They said my new prescription is a minute difference so I could keep my old glasses lenses; they didn't try to push new ones on me to make more money! I absolutely loved my experience. I am so pleased to find Optikos located in Koreatown of Los Angeles, after I had to return my year's supply of contacts at Costco. I had my eyes re-examined by the soft-spoken and patient Dr. Yoo. The manager of the frond end was also patient and informative. I have chosen a stylish pair of Ray Ben and with the correct prescription, now I can read with no headache. I have also purchased my contact lens without waiting for 10 days. Their prices are comparable. And the parking is in the garage next door. She gave me recommendations & suggestions & resolved all my issues. It was the example of a excellent & perfect service. The reason I gave 3 stars even I had a 5 stars experience with Dr Chang, Brian & the other Korean gentleman who adjusted my frame was that it was my first time there, my friend recommended this place since they carry Chanel. Since I wasn't using my insurance I had a few basic questions when I got there. Berania helped me & she kept trying to reply before I finished my questions & said "Yea we can figure that out afterwards", I was thinking duh of course I knew that too, but it was my first time there so I just have a few questions that anybody would have. When it came time for me to pick my Chanel frame, there were minimum interaction, there were not much recommendations, she just stood there so I just basically picked my own frame. The whole process was so uncomfortable when I was trying on the frames. I had never have this type of awkward service at a nice optometry store, until at the ends she told me which one looked better. She did tried to help me at the end but I already knew that I wouldn't want this experience again. I've been going to Optikos for 7 years now. Every year I get my exam with either Dr. Joanne or Dr. Julie. They are always very gentle and patient with the flippy lenses. "What's more clear? A or B?" "Can you do that again? Hmmm... I dunno...both?" They have a great selection of frames from Chanel to Alain Mikli and Paul Smith- all the good brands you want! If you ask to try contact lenses they will hook you up with some samples so you can try them before you decide to blow your annual VSP spend on a box of contacts that suck. One year, during the time I was uninsured, I got an exam and a cute pair of basic black frame glasses for $99 + $25 for scratch coating! Optikos really touched my heart. I love Optikos. Having driven past Optikos on Wilshire seeing their $99 contact lens promotion for months, I decided to make an appointment for a new prescription after reading the Yelp reviews. 12 years of going to various Costco optometrists from San Jose to Seattle, I wanted to not only support a local business, but develop a lasting relationship with a great optometrist. Parking: validated in the lot adjacent to the building My first impression of the initial visit was not great. A young doctor performed my exam who chose to be rigid and ultra professional, which made me nervous and very uncomfortable. My questions were replied to with textbook answers and she was not personable whatsoever. I actually wanted to walk out, but I fought rush hour traffic and Yelp LA convinced me this place is the bom dot com. It concerned me greatly that my exam was not as throughout - she rushed though the chart readings and I felt berated for having an extremely high prescription, and for not having a wearable pair of glasses. The last pair of glasses I purchased were well over $800 with special lenses sent to Japan for "ultra thinning" and everything else to ensure they don't resemble coke bottle glasses circa 1950. That was 10 years ago, I still have them, and have never worn them out. Ever. Why would I buy another pair if I am never going to wear them? 3 weeks after my first appointment, I came back to pick up my trial lenses. My suspicion the prescription was off was correct. It was way off, per the 2nd Optometrist that was working that day. A new exam was performed, along with a new trial lens ordered. 3 weeks after the second appointment, I came back to pick up my 2nd pair of trial lenses. They are also incorrect, according to the 3rd Optometrist who saw me. I realize my prescription is high, however in my 16 years of wearing contact lenses (my first pair of glasses were contacts) I have never made this many trips (4th is in 2 weeks) to finalize a contact lens prescription. Had I known I would be seeing 3 different Optometrists, I would have never come here. My last appointment was with the owner, who was the most personable, and someone I felt I could trust with my eyes. In fact, I really liked her, and recommend requesting her. Their selection of glasses are very overpriced for the quality - even the "cheap" frames were at $120, and look no different then Costco or ones you can find elsewhere for half the price. They also carry designer frames - I was told clients receive a discount, but I wasn't interested in Gucci Prada or Fendi. read more

I never knew I could have a perfect experience doing an eye exam. Alas, great customer service at affordable pricing exists in LA! And it's called Optikos. Scheduled an appointment the previous day, came in and was greeted immediately. Waited about 5 min before I was met by Julie, one of the nicest docs ever. Eye exam was quick and painless, and Julie advised me on the multiple contact lens brands so I could make a decision based on quality and price. Although the person I called on the phone quoted the exam at around $79ish, my bill was cheaper somehow. Call it the luck of the Irish. They also validate parking for the parking structure in the building in which they are located. They're also next to a Starbucks so that's convenient. There's also street meters if you don't want to deal with the parking structure. Optikos is my new go-to optometrist. Usually, I have to wait for 10-20 mins for a doctor to see me then 2 hours picking out glasses while having to be pressured into buying more expensive glasses, then waiting a few weeks for the glasses to come in. WELL, this was NOT the case at Optikos!! The reviews before mine are correct. I don't have anything but a basic glasses prescription. The cost of the exam is $40, dilation (to check the health of your retinas) is $20 extra. I walked in, filled out a simple form and then was greeted by Dr. Kim for my exam. She is more than friendly, nice, and knowledgeable. The total exam time, with dilation was 30 mins. Now, the real test of a place is when you are wanting to buy a pair of glasses. Places like Warby Parker, etc. make great glasses online for $100. I simply asked the sales assistant what their cheapest glasses were. He led me over to about 150-200 pairs of frames to chose from that where $60 with lenses. Now, for me, I use my glasses mostly for driving and class. Sometimes out and about, but my eyes are horrible, so these frames were perfect for me. They aren't the heaviest plastic, but then again, I dont like heavy glasses anyways. They have plastic metal and all sorts of frames for that price. They also have a vast array of high end glasses at very decent prices. I picked out a pair from the $60 rack, opted to choose the anti-glare lenses for $20 extra. The sales associate asked me to wait 10 mins and then it would be ready. I was thinking that he was putting together my chart or something, but nope. In 10 mins he was happily presenting me with my new glasses! Perfect! Total time for exam and walking out with a brand new pair of glasses: 45 mins! This is a great shop and even has free parking in the structure. I fully enjoyed my experience here and will be back to pick out another pair of glasses soon! So a breakdown: Eye exam w/dilation + pair of glasses w/anti-glare lenses = $139 If I didnt get the dilation or anti-glare then I would have been out of there for $99. Pretty incredible deal considering I used to go to an optometrist at the farmers market at the grove, who's exam alone was $75! I scheduled an appointment for the next morning here, was in and out within around 30 minutes which is insane for a first visit. The doctor was sooo nice and adorable, and didn't try to force me into the more comprehensive exam which almost every eye doc usually does. She recommended me new colored contacts since my old ones aren't sold anymore. I tried on all the colors I wanted, and even went around to all the employees to see which they liked better. Overall it was a fun experience for an eye doctor, and the whole faculty was super nice and inviting. Also, the glasses selection was on point and I think I will be getting some when I'm in next. I'm never going anywhere else. The preliminary exam was efficient & professional. Dr. Chung was thoughtful, honest, professional & didn't try to scare or shame me into any upsells. They emailed me my prescription for glasses & contacts within 30 min. And it was inexpensive! Also, the loft-like office is gorgeous. After the dust storm at Wu Tang's performance at Coachella speckled the lenses of my Paul Frank eye glasses; I couldn't tell if my vision was getting worse or if I just needed new lenses... The answer was both. Hence a new pair of glasses and yelping the best place in Hollywood to get an eye exam. Thankfully I listened to the reviews for Optikos. It's the spot. I parked at a meter just outside of the entrance to the building on Wilshire and walked right in. BTW - they validate parking so you don't have to do what I did, I just happened to find the perfect spot. The two well dressed nice guys behind the counter handed me one piece of paperwork to fill out while I complimented them on their choice in purple dress shirts. Five minutes later, a kind and professional optometrist, Julie Chang, came out to greet me with a smile and brought me back to do all of my eye tests with her. The process was thorough and comforting. I greatly appreciated the courteous conversation throughout the process and the advise I received from Julie. Came in a year ago for contacts, super quick and efficient, doctor is very soft spoken and super sweet, she knew exactly what problems I was having with my previous contacts and recommended ones that were less taxing on my eyes. Came in this year for my first pair of prescription sunglasses, once again, super quick and efficient, and the workers there are very nice and informative. I got an eye exam and Ray Ban sunglasses, and with my insurance, I only paid around a total of $40 (I got a few extra things on the sunglasses). They came in 2 weeks! If they don't have the type of sunglasses you're looking for (as their sunglass selections are huge), they'll help you look through a catalog online. They're also super patient, I probably looked at the same ones on the website for like 20 minutes before I decided on the one I wanted. They validate parking, but there's also plenty of street metered parking as well. This is my go-to place for my eyes in LA! read more

I've been coming here for almost 10 years! I first went here the day before I got my driver's permit circa 2005. =] Dr.Chang is wonderful. She cares for her patients and is very patient herself. I try finding other optometrists in the area but somehow I end up coming to Optikos year after year. Anyway, the clinic is always clean and bright! The staffs are very accommodating. Parking is behind the main building in a huge structure. I come here because I like supporting local businesses. read more

First floor of the shopping center where aroma golf range is! Great tentative service! Quick, accommodating, friendly, and easy going staff. They speak Korean and English too which is a plus in Ktown. I never felt pressured to purchase or upgrade anything. read more
