I kid you not, the first pair of glasses that Roger suggested was what I wanted and walked out with, but they patiently walked around the shop with me while I entertained other frames that we both knew I wasn't going to get . Roger then also kindly waited while I got approvals from someone on whether or not they liked the frames, and also checked my coordination of benefits. Roger was so patient, nice, and even funny. They have become so pushy selling their new treatments. It's no longer an enjoyable visit; more like getting your eyes checked by shady used car salesman. They made my younger sister cry by scaring her to try to purchase their dry eye treatment or whatever it's called. Even when I've called to place an appointment, I've gotten very curt and unwelcoming phone service. It's just gone down hill and it's sad to see. read more

They have a lot of frames to choose from and the person that helped me choose my frames help understand all the additional cost and if its necessary or not depending on how much I use my glasses. Wow, I love Optikos! After reading most of the other reviews on here, I thought they might be exaggerated. However, Optikos has lived up to those 5 stars. Here's why: 1. Dr. Chang is so thorough and knowledgeable about her craft. She answered all of my questions (and trust me, I ask a lot of questions because I like being an active participant in my healthcare) and had clear, concise, thorough explanations. I went in for a contact lens exam ($29 on top of what my insurance covered) and opted for the retinal photography ($39). I opted for retinal photos because I did not want to have my eyes dilated as I had an appointment soon after. Also, dilation would have taken about 30 minutes to go into full effect. Dr. Change explained all of this to me before I made my choice, which I truly appreciated. The exam itself was thorough. Dr. Change asked her questions slowly, didn't try to rush through the light tests or reading/vision tests. She was patient and careful during this time. She then went out to get sample contacts (clear Acuvue dailies and colored Optix) for me to try. She apologized for how little samples she had left, was honest with me about normally having more samples to give to customers and later instructed her associate in the front to order me more samples. That is above and beyond. That is how I know I can trust Dr. Change as she was up front about even the shortcoming of their supply at the time. 2. The sales associate was very thorough in his price breakdown, but you do have to be persistent with your questions. Can I just tell you that they have really great deals here. I am the type of person to research prices thoroughly. After looking through 1800contacts's inventory and comparing prices, Optikos was able to offer both the clear Acuvue dailies and Optix Colors dailies at a slightly cheaper price point per box. Originally, my order at Optikos was for the 3x box of 30 (x2 for each eye) for the Optix Colors dailies ($73 per box). However, after looking at 1800contacts, I saw that there is a box of 90 ($104 per box). I had just left Optikos 5 minutes prior and immediately called back asking if they could get the box of 90 instead since it would reduce the cost of my order by almost $400. To my surprise, the sales associate agreed! This just shows how honest they--they accommodated my price investigation without push back. The points above show me that I can not only trust Optikos for the talent of their doctors, but also for their commitment to the cheapest prices out there. Got 2 glasses back in september of 2022 including a $900 Chanel pair and another pair of computer glases and NEITHER FIT ME WELL. They both give me immense headaches and even after driving all the way back to have them fixed they still do not fit me right. I really do not have time to go get it fixed again. I tried on some of the Warby Parker glasses and those fit me better than the ones I got at Optikos. I don't feel like they did a good job of truly FITTING me for the glasses. They did not even measure my PD by hand. You just try it on for 1 min and that's it... I KNOW how to adjust the sides and bend themselves with hot water... but even after doing so the glasses I got are SO uncomfortable and now I am just STUCK with them... and its not the weight either... the computer glasses I got ALSO give me an immense headache. I spent a good deal of time talking through exactly what I wanted in terms of lenses in my new glasses. Specified very clearly that I don't like a purple tint in the lenses and showed them my current lenses, which were filled by a high-end optical store in NYC. I showed them how they were not purple, but slightly green -- but basically no lens coloring. They assured me that if I didn't get the most expensive version, which blocks the blue light from phones and computers, it would be "clear." The glasses arrived a couple weeks later and were as purple as purple can be. The brand new, never worn, expensive Garrett Leight frames were also DAMAGED! Without apologizing, they said they could fix the damage and send the frames back to the lab and get the lenses I had originally (thought I'd) ordered. We are now 1 month into this saga and I'm still wearing my old glasses. Stay away from this place! AWFUL AWFUL service. read more

Every time I come here there is an issue. Definitely wouldn't recommend!! 1st time they changed my prescription and when I went to my actual optometry appointment at Kaiser it didn't change. 2nd time I ordered contacts and received the wrong prescription. 3rd time- all on different appointments and years!!! I came to Optikos with zero to possibly below-zero expectations, as I'd been pretty fed up with all the other subpar Korean optometrists around town. That being said, I'd like to thank Optikos for restoring some faith in the idea that Ktown establishments can be friendly and provide outstanding customer service. I went in to grab new glasses and order contact lenses. The entire process was a breeze. They seemed to know exactly what they're doing -- which is apparently an impossibility in some of the other optometrist offices (cough it*lee cough on olympic cough). The doctor, Christine, was extremely patient and understanding. The bilingual employees in the front were welcoming and helpful as well. I went in as walk in and got moderately timely service. I believe making an appointment should expedite the whole experience even more, in the case you have no time to spare whatsoever. Location wise, it's in the Aroma building on Wilshire with that one always-busy-af Starbucks. There is parking for the mall where you can abandon your vehicle. Get the ticket validated and you're covered. That's a huge plus in Ktown as well. Plus the remodeling gave the place a glow. Why not go somewhere nice - AND - cute? I believe I'll stick with Optikos and take my mom for her reading glasses upgrade soon. read more

I've been coming here for years, at least 7 years and I've always loved the service and options. Now, they've lost their previous customer oriented care practice. I arrived 5 minutes late for an appointment and one hour later I still wasn't seen by the doctor. I drove from Thousand Oaks to be here because I love it that much but it's just not the same. Their Oakley options are lacking any good options, the woman who took my first tests, the little hot air balloon and blow air thing was just whatever, no enthusiasm, no greetings, just here , do that, do this, and it's just not what I've known this place to be. Will be looking elsewhere closer to me because there isn't anything keeping me here any longer. Ended up not even taking the exam, 1:30hrs waiting. Not acceptable. I came in for a routine eye exam. Dr. Chang was amazing, very kind and answered all my questions! Brian however was super patient and helpful when helping me pick my eyeglasses. I am picky and take lots of time to make a decision but he gave genuine recommendations and I ended up walking away with Chanel and DITA frames at an amazing price. I rarely write reviews -- even if I've had a shockingly horrible experience -- I let things go easily and just assume people are having a bad day. So the fact that I am writing a review indicates that something is seriously wrong with this place and I am just trying to save you all the trouble. I don't even know why this place has a high rating. I'm convinced it's their friends and family writing positive reviews because there is no possible way this place could be liked by anyone. I've been going to eye doctors for the past 20+ years and this is by far the WORST experience I have ever had. First off, everything in the store is 30 years out of date - it is as if you are taking a time capsule back to the 90s. Second off, everyone there -- from the staff to the eye doctors are extremely unprofessional and incompetent. The eye doctor I had -- Dianna Kattengell -- should not be in any type of profession where she has to deal with human beings. She is cold, rude, and dismissive. When she asked for my prescription, I took my contact lens case out of my bag and handed it to her, she looked at me in disgust and said "can you turn it over so I can see the prescription because I don't want to touch it." What?? What does that even mean? She barely gave me an exam. My eye prescription changes every year -- I am an academic I read books and write, my eyes have never stabilized. She did an eye test for 5 minutes max and said my prescription was the same. I said that can't be right because I can't see as well and my eyes have never stabilized in my life. She dismissed my concerns and said it was because I wear contact lenses -- again what?? I've been wearing contacts for almost a decade and I've never had problems before. She kept trying to push dailies on me and said that they would order samples for me. I had to drive over there twice to pick up the samples because they made an error and thought they had ordered all my samples when in reality they had not. I don't live in the area and driving to Ktown twice is not ideal for anyone. After about a week I made a follow up appointment because I still could not see. Like previous reviewers mentioned, I was suddenly told I had dry eyes and needed prescription drops. Why wouldn't you tell me this a week ago? Again, Dr. Kattengell was cold and dismissive and I was charged for her incompetence. I even had to do a follow up appointment for her to check on my eyes and was charged for her to look at them for approximately 30 seconds. I ended up having to pay $100 extra ($50 for each appointment after my initial exam) for something that could have easily been diagnosed a week prior. I have had previous eye doctors redo eye-exams for free because I felt that my prescription was incorrect -- and this was even after I already had the new lenses. This place is just a scam that wants to keep charging you for things they should intially be doing. Furthermore, their front desk is horrendous. Everyone is incompetent and rude. I asked for my contacts prescription to be sent to me because they never gave it to me and they sent me the wrong one. When I immediately called back and asked for the right prescription they were upset with me for their own error. DO NOT GO HERE. Everyone is rude, unprofessional, dismissive, and beyond incompetent. read more

Get as much concrete details as you can before deciding to use their services. Things changed once we sat down to go over the many options. Office bills for dry eyes for most patients for more money/reimbursement. They will charge you for medical visit along with eye visit, and keep telling you to come back for follow ups to get more reimbursement. They will tell you contacts are ready in one week after you've paid over $1,200 for your visit, and the contacts will be delayed for almost 3 weeks. I was left to wear old contacts with the wrong prescription because of this delay. Go somewhere else. There are plenty of optometry offices that won't feel like a scam. read more

I've been with Optikos for several years, but this past year, I was away and had to get my prescription in another state, and I realized in the morning I must have lost the copy of the prescription that was still valid. When I showed up, I thought I had to schedule an appointment for a new prescription, and go through the whole time process of that; And Renee was able to easily get in contact with them, and have them send a copy of the prescription in another state for me to get my contacts right then and there. Might have found my favorite optometrist. I've been pushing off my eye exam for the past year, and finally decided I should go in, and get my exam done. My frames were on life support, so it was necessary. I came here by recommendation, with no appointment on a Monday, and they were able to get me right in. They sat me down, had me fill out a history paper, and in less than 10 minutes my exam started. Right after I met with Dr Chang, did both contact and eye exams, and was done in under 30 minutes. She was super chill and explained everything in a way to be easily understood. Overall Super Quick, knowledgeable, and friendly staff. Will be back! read more

My initial experience with Optikos Optometry was stellar (with Dr. Chang, not necessarily with the employees). Unfortunately the same cannot be said about the follow up as well as the way they do their patient record-keeping which screams disorganization. After my first visit, I realized that I never got a written prescription of the actual grade of my eyes (I did an eye contact lens exam). I called the office and was told that they would be emailing me a copy of my prescription. On the prescription (so this is an actual medical document) it says that the expiration date was for July 2021 - about 2 years after my exam. I had thought that was interesting because typically they make you guys do annual exams, however a quick search shows that for contact lenses, it is a minimum of 1 year which could go up to 2 years, so I didn't mind at first due to me thinking that this was an accurate prescription, being that it had come directly from my doctor's office. Fast forward to today, due to the virus I'm trying to get my prescription renewed as I am high-risk and I'm unable to be out and about unless absolutely necessary. My initial exam was on July 2019, but being that it's September 2020 and the prescription document had listed July 2021 as my expiration, I had thought I would be able to get in touch with 1-800 contacts and get my contact lenses renewed for the year to come. I have now been told by 1-800contacts that the prescription I was given by Dr. Julie Chang's office was for a "Spectacle Lens Rx" instead of one for contact lenses so they had called the office to follow up but was told at that point that my prescription had actually expired (in contradiction to the date written on the prescription they had sent me). Initial experience was great with Dr. Chang, although in hindsight I do think they should have been better at being proactive on giving their clients their written prescriptions. Also the fact that they gave me a wrong prescription speaks volumes on their record keeping and makes me question how exactly they're making and sending out prescriptions to their clients, as they had made a huge error on every facet regarding my medical document. It was their staff's overall demeanor after paying quite a good amount of $$ on my visit (as if they were rushing you and couldn't wait to get you out) that made me a bit iffy about the whole situation initially, and now after this occurring, I'm not quite sure I will be returning despite initially thinking that Dr. Chang was great. Came here to get a new pair of glasses. Unfortunately, while they had somewhat a largish set of frames to choose from, they did not have anything that fit. -- I have a slightly larger head. The staff was not all that interesting in really helping though i expressed my concerns, every time presenting me with options that simply did not fit. They finally sold me into buy a pair of oakleys which, surprise surprise, did not fit right, though they mentioned they could adjust it. When I came in to pick up the frames, they simply handed them to me. They could care less whether or not that really fit correctly. I wasnt asked any questions, just a simple 'here you go. Have a great day' sort of hand off. If you're into getting herded like cattle, this place is for you. But if you are looking for a bit of a different vibe, definitely check out other locations to get better service all around. read more

I went today and was offered two options to have my eyes check. One is dilate and the other one is optomap check. The staff said it is both covered by the insurance so I chose the optomap. After all the check done, I was charged 39 dollars for the optomap check which I made it clear if it's covered by the insurance and the staff said yes. The front desk staff lied to me. I will never go back to this optical shop anymore. It's my first time to have my eyes check here and for sure they will not have my repeat business. read more

I suffered a severe corneal ulcer when I was young that took most of my vision in one eye, so believe me when I tell you I've seen no shortage of optometrists and ophthalmologists. By age 18 had more eye doctor appointments than most people do in a lifetime. I have never felt more taken care of anywhere than I do at Optikos. They continuously make recommendations to better protect my "good" eye as well as researching and proposing options for my "bad" eye. As someone who hasn't had full use of their vision for 17 years, there's no words to explain how much this means to me. I think both doctors care more about my vision than I do lol. Aside from all of that...in case you need more...they do a great job of explaining what coverage options I have and which is the better savings since I wear glasses and contacts. This was my first time going to an optometrist and I am very happy I came to Optikos Optometry and not anywhere else. The staff is friendly and made me feel welcomed the moment I walked in. I got my eyes checked out thoroughly by Dr. Julie Chang. She is a sweetheart and I would recommend anyone to go to Dr. Chang. She's very patient and will answer any questions you have, and not make you uncomfortable. She was very honest when I asked her a few questions about my eye make up and my eyes and she gave me advice on how to clean my eyes. I was able to select some glasses that day and they have many options to choose from. The young man assisting me was very helpful in helping me pick some glasses because I was undecided as to what frames I wanted. The customer service here is great, I really do recommend anyone who needs to get their eyes checked out here! I visited 6 other places and decided to purchase glasses here because the girl who helped us on Saturday was so nice. She was helpful, nice and not pushy. She explained all the different lenses, mods etc and gave us exact prices. I chose Ferragamo glasses and they were 20% off even after my $220 allowance with my insurance. I'm giving one less star for the older male Korean optometrist who was grumpy. We asked him to adjust the nose pads for me a little (because it was painful but I really liked them) and he wasn't too nice. read more

Came here to check my vision - it's apparently got way worse over the last year (I guess I spend too much time by my laptop and my phone - what else are you gonna do during pandemic lol) The staff is amazing - everyone from my doctor to receptionists were very friendly, patient and helpful. It was my first experience getting contacts and they even told me all the tips and tricks about how to put those contacts on and how to take them off. I have been a loyal long time customer (10 yrs), and last year visited the new location. It's big and nice but the new guy that took care of me wasn't very friendly. I had to beg to have my lenses replaced same day, which was something that I got done every time I went there in the past. I went back again recently, and another new reception guy was definitely not very accommodating, could not get me in for an eye exam, or replace my lenses again. He told me to make an appointment and come back. The place was empty with 0 customers or employees on sight. I asked for the manager and I was told he was off Fridays. Went to another Optometry place nearby, and I got everything done same day with very friendly employees that wanted my money. Good bye Optikos! Never again! read more

Best optometry ever! I love Dr. Julie & Dr. Christine as they are patient, respectful, clear in explanation & overall great service! I've gone to both doctors and they are both excellent. Answered all my questions even when I warn them that it may seem silly. They made me feel reassured and I felt the care they put in checking my eye sight. I got both prescription glasses and contacts from this place and again, very patient with the selection and answered all questions. The front desk employees are also very helpful and nice. Although it is very Korean-oriented, they do speak English and assist a diverse group of patients. One in particular was extremely helpful and funny! So if you do the math 200-130=$70 -Then there is a $50 rebate for 1 year supply of contacts. So $70-$50=(((($20)))) for 1 YEAR SUPPLY of CONTACTS...OMG! Dr. Yoo was so amazingly helpful and informative along with all the other front desk staff. I want to rate this place with 10 stars if possible. read more
