I obtained three solar bids this summer. I chose the local Tacoma company, Sun's Eye Solar. One of…read morethe owners, Dan, came to my house and explained the whole process. He also offered the best tech for price. I paid the first payment June 19, 2023. The team was onsite by July 5th. This included Dan, and co-owner- Chris- the electrician, as well as Nash. By the next day they wrapped up the on roof and wiring portion. Dan stayed in touch and made sure Tacoma Power was onsite quickly. By July 10th we were selling power back to Tacoma! Dan and his team are great to work with- unconditionally recommended!

I felt that Dan was the most straightforward of all the people I talked to, but he also had the best price. Even if his price was higher I still would have gone with him. The first quote I got was almost double what he quoted me, and that company used very high pressure sales tactics. Dan did not pressure me at all. He gave me the info and let me decide for myself. Not only does Dan own the company, but he was onsite during the entire install. He even noticed some issues with my roof that he fixed for me at no extra charge (some nails were poking through). We had issues with the city inspector after the work was done, but Dan took it like a champ and got things corrected immediately (he was not at fault - the inspector was being a butthead). If you are interested in getting solar for your home, want a great price, and want the work done by a small but professional local company, Sun's Eye Solar is the best choice you can make. You owe it to yourself to at least get a quote from them.

Definitely avoid these guys (David Ouellette and Master Electric). I hired them to install a GFCI…read moreoutlet in our crawlspace. First issue we have: they installed the wrong kind of breaker, which was caught when the inspector from L&I looked at it. So they came back and replaced it, and we assumed all was well. We didn't test the outlet (we assumed it worked) or even need it until this year with the heavy rains, when we noticed our crawl space sump pump wasn't working. I went under the house and figured out it's the outlet not working. (L&I inspector didn't bother to test it either when they inspected the breaker.) I called David, and he says it's out of warranty (one year, never stated anywhere, but he's claims that's the industry standard). So we get another electrician to look at it, and it turns out THE CIRCUIT DOESN'T EVEN CONNECT TO THE OUTLET. From new electricians' invoice: "Circuit was tied into wrong 10/2 wire. 10/2 wire from panel did not go to Junction box." New electricians had to place a whole new wire between box and panel, because there wasn't one! David claims the outlet/circuit must have been tested when installed, but it appears that was simply untrue. Oh, and they overcharged us too. They charged for 3 hours of work, even though they were here for 1.5. David agreed to lower the charge to 2 hours, but he argued that it was industry standard to charge for the time it takes to get to the job. I'm sorry, but it doesn't take 1.5 hours to get from Tenino to Olympia, even if it makes any sense to charge for that time. David even complained that he "took a hit" by reducing the charge. I'd say we took a hit by trusting these guys. Oh, and the electricians we hired to fix their mess only charged for the time they were here, not the "industry standard" David described.

He also was very careful to only sell me what I needed (unlike other heat pump sales people) which resulted in a lower bid than others. The technicians were excellent. They put the heat pump right where I wanted it and it looks great. And they were happy to answer any questions.

First of all they have to take a ferry to our island which is inconvenient for most businesses from off the island we understand that. The issue stems from their charges they use to come to the island. They charge a flat rate of $250.00 to come here for every customer they have that day they will only come over when they 2 or more appointments. The standard going rate from every other contractor is the cost of the ticket which is $33.00 or up to $75.00 per customer. We had them come and service our 5 year old mini-split it wasn't cooling back in mid September of 2025. We are snow birds and left the island the week after they were here to go to AZ for the winter. We came back on Memorial Day 2026 when about 3 weeks later we tried to use the AC but it still wasn't working. We called Sunset Air back to have fix what they hadn't fixed before. Their charge for the repair in September was $1,219.00. When we called them back they said it would be another $250.00 for the ferry ride plus a $250.00 service charge just to look at it! The repairman was average at best the 1st time he didn't even put it back together with all the screws I had to do it myself. We will be calling the Attorney General to log a complaint about their shady practices. Sadly, Bill Cunningham

We just completed our solar design and install project with Artisan Electric…read more(www.artisanelectricinc.com) It was an outstanding professional experience overall -- smoothly managed, and super pleasant people to work with from the beginning to end. And their follow-up to my subsequent questions has also been excellent. From the first inquiry over the Artisan website (www.artisanelectricinc.com) to the first conversations with the rep about the various system options; and on through the design and layout process with him; on into the site preparation walk-through with the general foreman; and all throughout the install experience with the crew. The crew was always prompt, professional, and managed a clean, well-organized work project space in/around our house, and they were all super pleasant to work with. Strong team! More to the point when we hit an install hiccup -- upon seeing the panels layout on the front street side of our low flat roof and were unhappy with the way it looked (not Artisan's fault but a failure of imagination on our part) -- we deeply appreciated the quick response to my email about it from our Artisan rep and the crew's professional "let's put our heads together and find a solution" mentality. In my experience that's where the rubber really hits the road with any contractor and everyone involved managed an efficient, calm, and solutions-oriented approach in partnership with us that ended up with an even-better solution. We also appreciate a union crew and seeing diverse representation on it. That matters to us -- in addition to high quality, fairly priced work. ;)
