I needed to get my glasses adjusted because I have a wide face and my frames keep squeezing the fat against the side of my head. It was causing minor headaches. They were also sliding down the bridge of my nose whenever I perspired which is often to always. I wasn't even a paying customer and they took care of my fat head concerns. I even asked the optometrist to adjust them several times. I felt bad because I wasn't even buying anything but still, he fixed them without complaint or attitude. Funny how good customer service that should normally be a part of any small business is now a considered a luxury at times. Though it's always a bit hard to decipher if your glasses are truly fitting well or not, as of now, they are not sliding down and they are not causing headaches. So, I finally reached them to find out where my contacts were. After they did some, "research" I was asked for my address again. I was told they spelled, "Astoria" as "Lastoria." They checked my address twice when I was in the office. So, I am not sure how this mistake was made or if that was truly the mistake. After that was cleared up my contacts were delivered. But, they had no idea I had not received my contacts. The shipping company never called them to alert them the package was undeliverable. I was never called by the shipping company. There was absolutely no follow-up and I believe I never would of gotten the package had I not spent a whole day trying to get through on the phone to find out what happened. I would still not use them and am going back to 1-800-contacts. read more

I went to Creston Optical based on the positive reviews listed here. The doctor and eye exam were average and what should be expected of any visit - they took a basic history, discussed daily hygiene and work habits, and made recommendations based on comfort level and desired experience (I have dry eyes, they recommended a different brand of contact). They get two stars because of their customer service. Outwardly and in person they seem accommodating, however, I learned upon visiting a different specialty frame store that Creston had placed a claim on my benefits for ordering eyeglasses from THEIR store only - preventing me from shopping around like any smart New Yorker would do. I distinctly had mentioned during my visit that I would not be ordering frames on the spot, so they had no reason to do this. I called Creston on three separate occasions to ask them to remove the claim, and each time got positive lip service - but no result. Finally, I had to call my eyecare services provider and ask them to call Creston *while I was on the line* to get them to drop this claim. I find it highly suspicious that they entered the claim when I distinctly told them not to, and that they finally acted only on a call from my provider. In the end, it took a 3 minute conversation on the phone with my benefit representative - but ultimately a month of hassle - for me to get back to square one - a usable eyeglass prescription! I would not want to do business with a company that puts their customers through this kind of trouble. Their frame selection is just decent and caters to specific tastes - and maybe that is why they were hoping to wear me down into getting glasses from them. Too bad. read more

FANTASTIC! This store offers everything I look for when it comes to a complete "vision" experience. When I first arrived inside the store the gentleman at the counter quickly took my insurance information and got the paperwork squared away. Less than a minute later Dr. Cohen came out and introduced himself and I went and had the exam. We had nice banter, the exam room was tidy, and less than 30 minutes later I felt very confident that I had a thorough and pain-free eye exam. I wish all of my experiences were as good as this one. As for their contact lenses and frames, they had a decent selection, although the lenses were a bit more expensive than I had hoped. Either way, they had no problem writing you a prescription so you can get them somewhere else. I will definitely be going back soon to pick out a new pair of frames. I had a pair of versace glasses, and one side of the frames was broken. i went back to the place i got them from but the business has since closed down. so i searched and found creston and they told me to come in, and fixed it without any charge, even though i did not get my glasses from them. its rare to find people like this in manhattan. i didnt buy anything from them when i went but next time i need anything eyeglass related i am going straight back to them :) read more

Optometrist is condescending and dismissive. Prescription I was given still doesn't allow me to see well, my old RX was better and that was several years old. The doctor also tried to talk me into very expensive daily lenses after I said several times I'm very happy with monthlies (a $500 difference in price out of pocket is NOT comparable, doc). My wife and I have been going to Creston since 2015 after I had a bad experience with a Cohen's Fashion Optical. I worked for several years for a busy surgical oncology practice, so I know how bad things can be in medical practices. But Creston has been all good! I've rarely had a wait in the office, and I've always had a smooth and pleasant experience. On my first visit, they had already examined and verified my vision benefits in order to streamline the decision-making process. (By contrast, I've witnessed other medical practices neglect to check a patient's insurance from the beginning, thereby resulting in some major snafus). In addition, I have astigmatism, so I am used to paying quite a bit for contacts. The prices at Creston are very difficult to beat, and I've always received them promptly. Besides the easily accessible location right off of Columbus Circle, it is easy to pick up my lenses even after hours with the building's doorman, and when I pick them up, they're in a nice gift bag. Even though I'm only there once a year, whenever I visit everyone says that they remember me. It's little touches like their method of packaging my contacts, their warmth, and their proactive approach that make all the difference to me. I continue to recommend Creston to my friends and coworkers. read more

Best optometrist visit I have ever experienced. I have done a lot of eye doctor shopping since living in New York and my search has ended after finding this family run gem. I absolutely love Creston's. 40 years in business and it shows! The service was genuine, friendly, and fast. All my requests were no hassle! They truly cared about my experience, my glasses, and my eye health. The doctor and staff are all knowledgeable and experienced. I was able to ask for rough pricing on the phone before my visit and it was exactly what I paid, and I will add that it was totally fair. This place used to be nice when they were in Hell's Kitchen. Dr. Cohen was very nice, thorough and professional. He was awesome. The new location is, unfortunately, a nightmare. No Dr. Cohen. And the lady apparently running this place, Jenny, is unprofessional, extremely rude, pushy, angry. She will try to upsell you. In a desperate kind of way. I'm all about supporting small businesses, but f you can't provide good products and services, then I won't. Jenny gets mad if you don't buy contacts from them (child-like mad). She was belligerent over the phone when I called to ask them to release my prescription to 1800Contacts. She was screaming at me and arguing, and calling me a liar because I never received an actual prescription from them. Overall a very horrible experience. Avoid at all costs. read more

I would give 5 stars for Dr. Cohen alone, but the male clerk, Pete I think his name is, needs MAJOR training in customer service. When asked questions for more clarity he was clearly bothered and handed me off to someone else. When I still asked him for more information, he told me I needed to talk to the Dr. and that he doesn't know. Clearly he knew the answer but was just upset that I was asking for more information and he could not be bothered. To top that off, the attitude sucked! If I could give zero stars, I would. I booked an appt to get contacts on Monday, and when I arrived this afternoon (Friday), they had no knowledge of my appointment. The receptionist was not on top of things, and it took her over half an hour to even get me checked in. When I FINALLY was seen (1hr 15min after my originally scheduled time), all he did was a routine check, which is not what I had asked for. I was there specifically to get contacts, which requires a completely different process. He basically told me my prescription is very small and sent me to the contact guy (who shares the same office but is a completely different company; and, it turns out, could have checked me for contacts in a much shorter time and for less! Which, of course, no one told me). When I talked to John (the contact guy), he told me the doctor hadn't given me any of the necessary information to procure the proper contacts. When I went back to the doctor, he said he didn't know that's what I had wanted, even though I had SPECIFICALLY SAID I was there to get contacts for the first time. It took him another half an hour to do the proper "testing", by pouring 4 different liquids in my eyes and poking his fingers all in them. I found the doctor and receptionist to be completely inept and condescending, constantly talking to me like I was a child and that their "soothing tone" would cover their stupidity and countless mistakes and time wasting. All in all, I wasted $150 and 3+ hours of precious time. read more

I'm not a fan of their new office space -- its crowded and confusing. The staff is also not as friendly. I also didn't like how when I made an appointment for my eye exam, they authorized my insurance for frame and lenses too. That was unnecessary and it took them a couple days to undo the authorization. read more

I have been a customer for nine years since 2007. I keep coming back because I have been consistently impressed with the exceptional customer service of the staff. This includes quick responses to phone calls, fair prices, and on occasion, emergency contacts when I've run out. The team gave me excellent updates about technical changes and price point changes in contact lenses. I also like the optometrists and found them to be efficient and personable. Creston really does deserve five stars because I think this is as good as it gets. read more

This place is pretty good. The doctor I saw was good, and he seemed caring. But it wasn't totally thorough, when I get my annual exam, I like to get my eyes dilated - the whole 9 yards, but they didn't do that at my exam. But again, the doctor seemed knowledgeable and took time answer my questions. The staff is pretty good - the one girl who works at the front has always been very helpful and nice, but there is a male employee who was always a little rude. He also ordered the wrong contacts for me, and it took some time to sort out the order. That was annoying. Overall I recommend the place though. read more

My first visit to Creston Optical was 2 yrs ago & I was so happy to have found what I thought .. was a great place to get my eyes examined and new lenses after my move to the UWS from the West Village. Quirky customer service but thought the exam was quite good ~ i've had worse and i've had better (from an expert eye specialist) but happy to find a local spot. I splurged on a very expensive pair of frames, and the works (no glare coating) which I have had on 4 previous pairs of lenses. ~ after a year I noticed scratches (?) on the right lens that continued to spread and the same "scratch" appeared on the left. I took them in to another shop and asked what they thought was happening and I was told that the anti-glare was pealing FROM THE INSIDE of the glass and to repair the lenses would have to be replaced. When I went in for my exam at Creston and showed the exam lady (who had been so kind at my first meeting) she became quite agitated and defensive and pretty much accused me of not taking proper care .. I assured her my cleaning (no detergent) or harsh soaps etc. nor my shampoo was the cause of whatever was going on with my lenses. I showed them to the owner who never once apologised or offered an explanation or a minimal discount on the $200 new lenses i'd be putting in (without anti glare of course)! I opted out, and had only readers put in my expensive frames since insurance covered the cost and so glad I did! They surly didn't deserve my business. No one called me when my reading lenses were ready ~ I anticipated that. I called and left a msg. and no one returned my call. When I did finally reach them they insisted they called. They sure didn't because I checked. When I went in to pick up my glasses they were RUDE and just handed me my frames and didn't fit them to my face. Happy to never be going there again i'll have them lovingly adjusted in my old neighborhood even if it's across town! read more

A place does not earn so many bad ratings without a reason. Staff do have a tendency to oversell and the pricing is as high as you can get. Wouldn't give you receipt unless upon request. I would give this zero stars if I could. I am a college student at Princeton who was in the city for the summer, and needed a contact lens exam as I was on my last pair and needed to order more from 1800 contacts. 1800 got me in touch with this company, and my eye health has deteriorated ever since because of their poor customer service, and, frankly, almost scam-like behavior toward me. I came to this office because I saw its good ratings on this site. I am not sure why my experience was so vastly different, but here it is. The doctor gave me a very quick exam, said my prescription hadn't changed but that the contact lenses should be switched, and sent me on my way. She said she would fax the new prescription to 1800 for me. I found out later that this never happened. I tried to switch the contacts, and found out that was blurry. I called and requested a follow up. She denied examining me, but said that she would just order a trial pair, and that could show us. Keep in mind that most places give you a trial pair on your FIRST visit. She only offered when I requested them, on my second visit. Felt like some major corner-cutting to me. I waited for about three weeks. I called once or twice every week, and received the same response: "the contacts are on backorder and we don't know when they will be here, but will call you as soon as they do." Three weeks went by. I was on my last pair of contacts, as I made clear. I developed an eye infection from the old lenses. Still, no trial pair. I began to wonder whether they had even been ordered, or if this was all a scam. Finally, after spending hours on the phone with 1800 contacts, the sales rep there called the secretary at Creston. He said the trials had come in (miraculously, on that exact day!) and I requested he send them to me, and requested the doctor reach out to me. Throughout the whole time I called them, she never bothered to reach out and see how I was doing, even when I noted the eye infection. Poor customer service, or avoidance altogether, I'm not sure. They said she would call me the next day. I didn't receive a call. I called today, and asked why - they read back to me an incorrect phone number, even though I have called their office multiple times, and even though I wrote it down and repeated it numerous times. The man said he had mailed my contacts - but had no tracking number, and, even in my urgency, they used general mail. It will take another week to get to me, while my eyes continue to deteriorate. Usually, I never write these "ratings." I do read them a lot, though, and trust them. I knew that I trusted Creston because I saw it had good star rating. I am going to dampen that trust that now, because I don't want anyone to live through the experience I've had. Please avoid this place at all costs if you want some genuine service, caring, interest in all in your health. This place could pose for a rip-off, and I can say I don't only want my money back, but I want compensation for the way my eyes are now, due to Creston's poor and beyond inadequate treatment. read more

I was a huge fan of Creston Optical at their old location on 54th and 8th. However, when they moved to their newer location, their customer service tanked. I was rushed through an eye exam and with much hesitance, still picked out a pair of frames afterward. They never called to alert that my frames were ready and when I did pick them up were extremely unhelpful when I asked to have them adjusted. These are, hands down, the worst pair of glasses I ever purchased. Also, when I asked to have a copy of my prescription, they refused to give me one. They lost a 10+ year customer. read more

Ordered contact lenses from them, and they told me it would be a couple of weeks. A few weeks go by, so I call them. They told me there was some problem with the manufacturer, and said it would be another few weeks. They did give me some samples of dailies (not my usual lens) to tide me over, but I had major problems with them. They were able to get some samples of the actual lenses I use. My order finally came, plus, free of charge, they gave me another six months of lenses, for the slow turn around. They were very nice about everything. read more

I recently visited Creston Optical and found the receptionist to be courteous and friendly. I hadn't had my vision checked in quite some time and was able to meet with their optometrist right away. They also helped me understand my eye care insurance coverage and figure out the best options. After my eye exam, I was fitted for frames. They had a nice selection of frames and provided helpful consultation about the types of lenses I might consider. The staff person was quite patient as I tried on several frames. I was impressed by how much time the staff spent with me. I would definitely recommend Creston Optical to anyone looking to purchase new eye glass frames and lenses. read more

I am so disappointed that Creston has declined so much in the last couple of years. Their prices used to be competitive (50% on a second pair purchsed along with the first), but that's no longer the case. I recently ordered two pairs and was told they would be ready the following Saturday. Fortunatley, i had the foresight (pardon the pun) to call ahead. After trying for 90 minutes (they forgot to deactivate their off hours answering service), I was told they were not ready, but they would stay open later for me to pick them up the following Tuesday. Then they called to let me know that would be impossible. They next agreed to overnight them. When the package arrived, it contained one set of glasses and one empty case. I hate to see the small business owners suffer, but it should meet at least one of the standards of quailty, price, or service. I apologoze to anyone I've recommended Creston to in the past. read more
