The moment I bit into my Cardamom Orange Blossom Brioche, I knew I had to review Orange & Blossom, simply so I remember to come back next time I'm in Portland. I was in Portland for an extended weekend trip to visit a friend last month. This was definitely a side quest that I had not planned for. But we had an early start on my last day and stopped for a quick bite while waiting for some friends. And OMG! The cardamon orange blossom brioche is soo soooo good! I'm still thinking about it today. I was this close to buying a box to bring home. Only thing stopping me: I had a long flight (with a layover) and they're $6 each. $6 isn't bad when I'm having one. But for a box? It adds up..quickly! Plus my goal is definitely not to gain a million pounds, as would happen if I bought a box (because I would likely eat it all without realizing it lol). I have a group of friends that do a vegan dining adventure every so often. My friend that organizes the dining meet ups chose to do a group outing at Orange & Blossom. Updating my review now that I have had the chance to stop by Orange & Blossom again. There are some bakeries that are good "for being vegan," but I think Orange & Blossom is outstanding regardless of being vegan. Everything I've tried from them has truly been on point for the description. I have not missed butter or eggs in any pastry. That said, I have found items I don't like, but that's because I'm not a big fan of miso or black sesame in my sweets. (Probably other flavors too but those come to mind most recently.) Most recently I have really enjoyed their cardamom orange blossom bun and their nutella maritozzi. And now I'm seeing on their website that they have a pickle ranch biscuit..... what?! Must go back to try. Service has also been outstanding every time I have interacted with this business. The employees are knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. It seems like they really enjoy working here. Their prices range from $5-15 depending on the size and complexity of the item. Beautful bright store front with cases of gorgeous and delicious pastries and treats. Plus excellent cold brew coffee. And nary an animal product in sight! Also lots of clearly labeled GF options. It was almost impossible to choose, but three of us indulged in four sweet treats. I got the signature blossom coffee drink (cold brew, oat milk, orange blossom syrup, and cold foam) which was lightly sweet and perfectly balanced. It was so good my partner went back for one of his own. Then the third member of our party also got one for herself. We all wanted to try something else off the drink menu, but that meadow blossom cold coffee is so tasty we all wanted more. Two super friendly employees kept the line moving briskly on a busy Saturday morning and everyone walked out happy. Everything is made fresh so when they sell out, it's out for the day. We ordered a few pastries to go one afternoon. Some of the cakes were sold out by then but we got one of each that was left plus some cookies. I felt the cookies were standouts- each one had great flavor and chewy on the outside soft in the middle. The cakes were okay, some felt kind of grainy, but they were beautiful! First visit to the Alberta art district in Portland. We decided to visit this nice little bakery with good selection plant based goodies. I first stumbled across Orange & Blossom while browsing around Yelp. Then during my first trip here to Portland, I tried Orange & Blossom at the Farmer's Market not knowing that they were a vegan bakery. The Miso cookie I had at the Farmer's Market was absolutely delicious and when I looked them up on Yelp, I realized I had just tried a spot I had bookmarked (yay!). Second time here, we found a place to stay not too far from Orange & Blossom and decided to come here for breakfast! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The bakery looked so cute. I love that they have a cozy seating area, and on the opposite side, they have counter seats in front of the large glass windows so that you can people-watch, car-watch, or just enjoy the view.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] And that's what we did after we picked up our order. Our order included: 1) Hazelnut Apple Financier - Not to sweet. You can feel and taste the chopped up hazelnuts in-between each bite. I would describe the Financier as a little dense, a little crumbly (kind of like an almond flour texture), kind of springy, but all in a good way. It's just very mildly sweet, which is perfect. I think most of the sweetness comes from the Kiyokawa rose apples themselves and those apple slices were nice and fragrant. Crusts are usually my favorite parts for anything shaped like pie slices, so I would say that's applicable here. But I have to say the crust is just a tad better than the body part of the cake but not by much, haha. 2) The Cheddar Herb Biscuit was also delicious. It's flakey, buttery, and savory. The large salt flakes really takes it up a notch though. If like eating the biscuits in layers (I separated my biscuit into two pieces - a top and bottom because it's a tall piece) then you'll notice that the top piece with all the salt flakes is bursting with flavor. The salt helps cut the buttery-ness of the biscuit as well. I love that they included chives because that's one of my favorite veggies! 3) Chausson Aux Poires. My partner was drawn to this one immediately. He said he loves how Orange & Blossom let's their fruits shine and I have to agree. There were plenty of pear filling, but this one was just a tad too oily for me. 4) We also ordered a Masala Chai and hot chocolate. The Masala Chai was my favorite. I've tried a few Masala Chai before and this one makes it on my list of top 3. Not the top top, but almost there! The spice in their Chai is delicious. I love a Chai that's more spiced up than sweet, and this was it. The hot chocolate was absolutely delicious as well, but a little heavier and sweeter for the morning, so I preferred the Chai this time. Their hot chocolate contains quite a bit of different adaptogenic mushrooms, which can make drinks taste funky sometimes, but you can't really taste it in this drink, which is great. The drink is warming, comforting, and sweet. Just a tad thick - I would probably describe the viscosity as something between a homemade powdered hot chocolate and a real one made with just melting chocolate. This hot chocolate retains it's heat quite well, so do be careful when you sip on this! The service here is so friendly. They had samples of the biscuit for us to try. Initially, I wanted to pick up a coffee at a coffee shop, but the server had me changing my mind when he said that their Chai and hot chocolate are really good and he was spot on. I haven't had a lot of experiences with fully vegan bakery shops (I can only count three at most), but I have to say Orange & Blossom makes some amazing top notch vegan goodies. read more

Okay SO like not to like brag or anything but MY grandfather was a Master Pastry Chef and taught pastry at Johnson and Wales in Rhode Island. My grandmother was an epic baker too. They ran a bakery in Rhode Island as well. And no one has ever been able to live up to what they'd made me while I was growing up. And definitely not since I've been vegan. UNTIL. Until. Orange & Blossom. To say WHOA doesn't accurately describe my experience. Walking in you get the distinct aroma of baked goodness. No sickly sweet smells or smells of just bread. Just complete goodness. I tried several items there and brought many home. At the bakery I had: the Herb Biscuit which seems almost hard on the outside but you can peel it apart like any other biscuit and I don't know HOW but it tastes like butter and it's so soft inside!!! (Took home 2 of these) The Buckwheat Chocolate Truffles: oh someone just take me to heaven!!! They're oh so rich but not sweet to the point I can only have one bite. No sir. I can fully have at least 4 truffles hole thank you. The Buckwheat on the outside is a nice extra touch of texture that just does it for me!! (Took 6 of these babies home) Leek Potato, Kale, Jalapeno Focaccia oh my word. This was heavenly too. I'm sorry. I do realize I'm repeating myself but it's just that good. Soft and airy bread, crispy leeks and kale. And the delicious rosemary. Yes and thank you. And took some home. My friend ordered chai tea and we were told by the absolutely LOVELY woman who helped us, that they make their own chai tea and it's incredible. Well. Let me say. Yes yes it is. My only WARNING to anyone is to be smarter than ME. I'm very caffeine sensitive. I had already had my morning 6 shot espresso. I hadn't eaten much but the morning coffee was still there in the system. And until I was suddenly sweating, had a rapid heartbeat and I felt panic... Did I realize I should not have had two cups of chai because they're made with BLACK tea lol. So next time NO caffeine prior for me. Because this chai is so good. The atmosphere here is cozy, warm, beautifully decorated, light, bright and lovely. The only BAD thing I can say is it's not close enough to me. But that may also be good for my wallet!! read more

I was particularly excited for the pistachio cake. It had a unique chewy texture, more like a brownie rather than cake. The pistachio flavor was honestly too weak for me so it's a bit of a miss. The cardamom bun definitely had a kick of spice from the cardamom. The bun was soft but a little cold. Not bad but I've has better elsewhere. Staff was very friendly. I try scones/pastries everywhere I go. The pear/rosemary scone with maple glaze is the BEST I've had. I do t just mean in Portland. I mean anywhere. Absolute perfection.
