I had three or four keys that weren't working on my MacBook Pro keyboard...yikes! I got on Yelp and I sent my issue to a couple companies. Only Joe from OC Computer bothered to provide a brief, yet informative response. Without seeing my computer, he said I probably needed a new keyboard (palm rest as he called it), and that would be about $350, parts and labor. I was still able to use my computer for most stuff, so I was in no huge hurry. To cover all my bases, I took it to the Apple store in Cerritos just to see what they'd say. They weren't sure, saying I likely needed a new keyboard (as Joe said). When I mentioned the word "palm rest" it was like a foreign language to the guy. To make sure, they said they would have to send my computer off for a week...what? Of course, I asked how much that would be and they said $800...IF that indeed was the problem. Oh yeah, since I didn't have an appointment (my fault) I had to wait about an hour just to get a seat at one of the tables where you actually have a person come talk to you. Then I waited another 20 minutes until someone talked to me. The guy was nice, but I just didn't have a good feeling. After that appointment, I drove directly to OC Computer which is by my house, talked to Joe and Angel, put down a deposit for a new keyboard/palm rest and they called me when the part came in. In the meantime, like I said, I was able to hold on to my computer and use it for some stuff. When I took my laptop in, two days later I had it back and working. I probably could have had it back sooner, but I told them I was in no hurry. Anyway, OC Computer is less than two miles from my house, so I should have gone there first, but that's on me. Next time, if needed, I will. So, while I'm sure the Apple store is good for a lot of things (especially if you have insurance), I would at least talk to Joe and/or Angel and maybe save yourself some time and money. Yesterday I got my iphone 14 pro max front screen cracked. During this process the phone was self touching and I had asked a question on yelp before they open and Joe responded right away to let the phone die by not charging it and having him put a new screen right away. I took my son's IPhone XR in to get a quote on fixing a broken screen. I usually go to Apple directly for our family's devices but this phone is out of warranty and booking and driving to an appointment at Apple Store is not the most convenient option. Person assessed phone to make sure they had part and told me about 20 minutes. I have waited on site and ended up being about 15 minutes. With tax came to about $115 and work looks good although me doesn't know for sure until you've had phone back for a while. While I take responsibility for dropping the phone, there were several significant problems with the repair process. Secondly, after the initial repair, the fingerprint sensor and front-facing camera were still not functioning properly. Thirdly, I had to bring the phone back for a second repair, which was also incomplete. Weeks later, I have yet to receive any updates on fixing the fingerprint sensor. Additionally, the screen was not properly glued, causing it to completely detach. These issues could have been avoided if the repairs were done correctly. These are facts, not opinion and your post does not address the facts: 1. Your shop charged me for a new screen and received a used one instead. 2. The initial repair did not resolve all the issues with the phone, including the malfunctioning fingerprint sensor and front-facing camera. 3. The second repair was also incomplete, as the screen was not properly glued, leading to it detaching. I would have been willing to compromise, but your shop denied any wrongdoing.
