Modern Computer Systems is very convincing over the phone and promises top-tier, professional service, but the final results fell far short of those expectations. The experience started off on the wrong foot when the first thing the technician asked after walking in was, "Do you have a pen and paper?" It didn't inspire much confidence or professionalism. The biggest disappointment was the cable management. It looked rushed and completely disorganized, especially considering that we had already paid before that part of the job was finished. The overall quality of the work was well below what was promised. Unfortunately, I won't be using this company again, and I can't recommend them based on my experience. Had an issue with a CPU installation that resulted in my PC power cycling and not working. Took it here to have someone professional look at it (before I messed something else up ). Turned out my motherboard was fried (so props to me for not messing up my new CPU after my first time trying to install a CPU). Long story short, they installed a new motherboard, new CPU, and new cooling system for me. They said it would only take a day, but instead it took about 3ish. Rather than doing a rushed job and meeting the initial estimated finish date, they needed to swap out my cooling system for a better one because it would have ruined my new CPU (Ryzen 9 5095X) due to it overheating. So I HIGHLY appreciated them going the extra mile and noticing this for me. They also tested everything before giving it back to me for QA purposes. I'd rather wait the extra few days and potentially save hundreds of dollars. They could've not done anything and had me come back later to pay for more repairs. They gave me a lot of advice as well and SHOWED me what they were doing before they did it. There was a lot of trust involved in this repair, and it paid off (pun absolutely intended). Definitely will be coming back for future upgrades. Learned a lot about computers in this process. As for the computer itself, it's running like a beast. Very powerful and very quiet surprisingly (more so than before). I wanted to wait a day after I got my computer to test out the programs I use and it's working great. I was having a problem reading my data out of a failed hard drive but Modern Computer Systems was able to retrieve it. My hard drive had broken parts and also a virus which was detected by them and they told me it would take a couple of days. They called me asking if I would like to move forward with recovering the data and I approved. When I came by the store to pick it up they said they fully recovered all my data and not only that but also organized all my files together. When i picked it up my total was now 175.00 0 because they said it was an extreme virus difficult to remove. I got suckered into paying but i was happy to have my computer back. Upon checking my computer when I got home, it wasnt working still so I took it back and he then tells me i need a new keyboard and he had one for 25. I had a problem with an installation of a system that I worked on myself, but made a major mistake and made it unusable. I called Modern Computers out of frustration and was very, very please with the service. I telephoned on a Thursday afternoon and withing an hour there was someone at my home who picked up all the components. I got a diagnosis a couple of hours later and updates were phoned to me in a timely manner. By Friday afternoon the system was up and working. And even afterward I got a follow-up call to make sure everything was fine. I'll be recommending and using this service from now on. read more

I made a commitment to the owner, Mr. Jonas Nabilisi that if I received my reimbursement I would post that I did receive it and I am hear to report that I received a Cashiers Check of $100.00 to replace the AC adapter cord for the PC that I purchased at his shop. It took, and it only took five month's because the note that I received stated that he is very busy and he needed my address which he has had since October, 2011. First, I think it is great that sites Yelp exist to be able to post what occurs to customers at various businesses. Second, consider what happens to people who get bullied and made to feel like they do not have any recourse when dealing with issues like computers that need to be repaired. Third, whatever happened to "Customer Service?" It has been my experience that most businesses are very professional in the way they handle themselves with their customers. From this experience allow me to offer four observations that I have made that may help somebody in the future: 1. First, if you walk into a computer shop and it looks like a tornado hit it and there is literally equipment that is strewn all about the shop - Not a great idea - If other peoples equipment is like that what makes you think your Toshiba will escape this fate. 2. Second, when you are told to return back at a certain time and the person telling you is not only not just there but the shop is closed and his employees are out front wondering when he is going to arrive. Not a good sign. 3. Third, when you are in the shop and you hear the person who is helping you being rude to other people with short terse answers or will even debate with the customer that the issue they needed to bring their computer in what not what was needed. I call this Twilight Zone Customer Service. For instance, 'What your screen does not work!" Why yes, that is why I brought it in! No, we fixed the problem it had nothing to do with your screen. Stop, Do you here that music - You have entered the Twilight Zone of Customer Service. RUN AND GO TO BEST BUY! 4. Fourth, when you have purchased an item at a shop and later you found out that the mark up is a whopping 50% lower somewhere else - Not good! I finally received my reimbursement and I am grateful that it occured prior to the end of the Mayan Calendar and Jonas you did get my money but you never once took reponsibility - it always has something to do with the customer. I took a non-functioning laptop in to Modern Computers. The problem was that the hard drive had worn out. They replaced the hard drive with a solid state hard drive and it was up and running the same day. I knew that the usual story is that when a hard drive crashes, all the data will be lost-at least that's what I thought. They were able to retrieve all my data-pictures, documents, videos- and copy them to a back up drive which I picked up a few days later. (The process of extracting and moving the data was time-intensive, because of the reduced speed required on the old hard drive.) If I could give a negative review I would. 1. Never opens on time. Only when owner feels like it. The open sign is always on but rarely is he ever open at 10am as stated on his entrance. It's businesses like this that underscore why Yelp (and social media in general) are such a godsend for consumers and conscientious businesses. The social web is making businesses accountable to their customers and communities in ways that business-owners like this detest. Gone are the days when you can take your customers for granted, or treat them like suckers and expect to be in business very long. Word gets around much faster these days. INSIDE SCOOP: I had the eye-opening experience of working (albeit briefly) for Mr. Nabilsi when I was in college, and from the look of these reviews, I see little has changed. I won't bother repeating what the others have said except to say their complaints are spot-on. The only insight I'll add is this. Mr. Nabilsi made a habit of making promises to people and making sure he wasn't around when it was time to make good on those promises. Instead of taking the heat himself he had a webcam hooked up so he could sit at home and see who came into the store. He'd then call me to try to feed me whatever BS story he wanted me to communicate to the customer about why their computer wasn't ready when it was promised, why the price was double what he quoted, etc, etc. Needless to say our moral/philosophical differences didn't take long to become an issue and the relationship was ended. When I advocated things like moving towards more transparent pricing, getting real with the customers or god-forbid cleaning up the place he shot back with "We deserve to make a living too." Yeah, by over-charging and under-performing expectations apparently. No doubt Mr. Nabilsi will attempt to deny/challenge or otherwise obfuscate what I've said here, but it's nearly impossible to miss the consensus that MCS is failing to deliver the kind of value, service, honesty, transparency and basic respect that customers expect and therefore won't be in business much longer. UNLESS, of course, Mr. Nabilsi wakes up, realizes the rules of business have changed, leaves behind his used car salesman mentality, and decides to join the Internet Age where honesty, transparency, trust and above all VALUE are the keys to success. I wish I could give it less stars. This place is horrible. Don't go there. I took my laptop in around Christmas last year, and it took a month for me to hear back. They hadn't even looked at it yet! They wanted me to give them two more weeks. I did, and when I called back two weeks later they still hadn't looked at it! They asked me for another week and grudgingly I conceded. When I called back, they told me my motherboard was fried and needed to be fixed for $175. This seemed steep to me, but in my need to get my laptop back, I finally just told them to fix it. They said it would be two days then it will be ready. A week later I called for my laptop, and they didn't pick up. So I went to the store, ready to pick up my new laptop... And guess what... They hadn't even started on it yet! Matter of fact, it was laying in pieces, disassembled, in the back somewhere. I was furious and told them to give me my computer back. I was deeply upset with the store. It wouldn't be bad if this were the end of the story, but it's not! The owner of the store called me apologizing for the poor service, and told me he had a new laptop that I could get for a low price. I took my friend with me this time so he could see the poor quality of service for himself. I went back to the computer store with My laptop, to see what we could do. The owner of the store tried to sell me an old Toshiba laptop with a broken screen. After I refused he then produced a newer laptop but he wanted me to pay full price for ($425). I said no way, as I can get a new laptop at Best Buy for around 300. Finally, upset and flabbergasted, I said how much to just fix my motherboard like he previously said he would do. After scribbling some numbers on the paper, he told me $225! This is a full $50 more than what he originally quoted me for the exact same service. This place is a sham. Think of them like a shady car repair shop. They probably screwed noncomputer savvy people out of their money with exorbitant prices and unnecessary service. Don't ever go there. This place was just awful. The owner seemed like a nice foreign guy and seemed to genuinely care. I gave him a shot since I could literally walk here from my house. I left my laptop for a screen replacement and he said that it would take 2 days. I went to pick up my laptop 2 days later and he said that he hasn't been able to get the screen and that it is a very "rare" part and he didn't want to order from "China" because it would be cheap so he would get his friends from the "Mid-West" to send him a great screen. I gave him another 2 days..... I came back and he had the same story of how "rare" it was and he didn't want to charge me so much for a screen and he was trying to get a hold of it. He asked me to give him a week while he was trying to get a hold of the screen. I came back in a week and he said that he had been ordering the screen and it is so "rare" and only made for a short amount of time that he was going to have to special order it from HP and he hates dealing with them. He said give him a few more days and he will pick it up directly from Los Angeles. By this time I feel completely retarded for believing him all of this time and for leaving my laptop there for so long. When I came back he obviously didn't have it and he was making up some other story. I asked him to give me my laptop because I was going to get it fixed somewhere else. He takes 20 minutes trying to find the cover for my screen, then another 15 to find the screws which was in a little box with a MILLION other screws! Then he gives me my laptop and tells me to be on my way without giving me my AC power supply. When I asked him for it, he was looking frantically and ended up giving me some old crappy one that fit my connection! He couldn't find mine. His place was a mess with absolutely no organization whatsoever! If you want all of your pieces back just as the came from the factory, then avoid this place at all costs. I did not get ONE phone call throughout this whole time at least keeping me updated or making some sort of decision whether I wanted to leave it there or not. Needless to say, that very night I went online and purchased a brand new screen online from one of hundreds of online stores that offered it for $68! That's $122 less than what he was charging me. I typically do not post reviews when I am angry, thus I have waited eight days after FINALLY picking up my laptop to post my experience with Jonas - OWNER / MANAGER / TECHNICIAN / " and "Honorable discharged and Decorated member of the Medical Corps of the US ARMY AMEDS with a rank of Specialist 5 and parachute trained Medic.". While I have NO idea what his military status has to do with his ability to repair computers, he apparently felt it quit important since he repeatedly blew his own horn. Being a "Combat Medic myself - I was not the least but impressed! I trained chumps like him and called them, "mouth warriors" - the same applies to his career in computer sales, non-repair and insulting the intelligence of the general public! ON TO MY LAPTOP: My kids used it and kids being kids - they managed to gather a virus and the system became unstable, very slow and needed the skills of a 'professional' to clean it and put it back in running order. On September 17, 2013 I dropped it off with the now well reviewed 'Jonas' who told me it would be done that evening around 6:00 pm and it would be, "...running fast, stable and like a new computer." Well 6:00 pm came and Jonas gave me the first of many, "I just need two or three more minutes. It is almost done. I just need to fine tune a couple things." Needless to say the computer was NOT ready in "two or three minutes"; in fact it was not ready when I returned on September 18th, 19th, 20th or 21st! EACH TIME I was told yet another "unknown problem" had arisen and specialized tests were required to verify my HARDWARE was operational and had not become "flaky" as he 'suspected'. Jonas explained that my low-end laptop was essentially what the industry calls, "throw away" - not worth repairing when hardware issues appeared because the manufacturer utilized 'cheap junk parts' in the manufacturing process! I am certain that Hewlett Packard would be ((and will be) most interested to learn of his opinion as to the quality of their products (just a bit over six months old might I add). On September 21st Jonas told me my 'hard drive' was 'toast' and I needed a new one. He showed me a 'dusty' supposedly 'new' hard drive that he said would solve my problems for the 'discount price of 'only' $239.99! I REFUSED HIS 'OFFER'! I was forced to pay a diagnostic fee of $99.00 IN CASH since his credit card reader was broken - the wires were cut. One would think he would be capable of replacing four wires so he could take credit cards as advertised - HOWEVER CASH IS EASIER TO HIDE FROM THE IRS! Just a side not Jonas ..... the IRS pays a nice fee for 'tips' about potential 'tax cheats'! You best have those records in order. In the end I had my computer REPAIRED ELSEWHERE - NO NEW HARD DRIVE and it fINE! They removed the VIRUS, optimized the system and had me on my way in three hours which is what JONAS PROMISED to do on September 17, 2013,but COULD NOT DO IN FIVE FULL DAYS OF TRYING! Prior to that my brother's laptop was not working and he went their as well and got his computer back and was working well within 2 weeks. However, it has been over 2 months. The owner tells me if he can not fix it or any one of his connects can't he will give me back a full refund. Like I said, it's been over 2 months I receieved my computer back and it is still glitching and I now can not access my computer AT ALL!!! & I'm still waiting on my refund, the owner has been giving me the turn-around and I am furious.
