I emailed Mike several days ago for an estimate to install/modified resonator on my current custom cat-back system for my 2013 Honda Fit. I of course attached pictures with the email to make sure Mike know what I want to be done. Mike reply my email with a great quote and we make appointment to visit Mike by email. So today, I arrive there by 8am, Steve (Mike's mechanic) greet me and he already know that I am coming from Mike. After few final confirmation of the details that need to be done, Steve start working on my car right away. He work very carefully and pay attention to details and very friendly. Steve had done halfway when Mike arrive and then Mike continue working / finishing on my car while Steve move to another car. Mike himself is the one who do all the TIG welding for my exhaust project and Mike is also very friendly and Professional in talking to customer. My exhaust modification is fabricated using 304 Stainless Steel piping and it is very hard to find a good friendly exhaust shop near my area who have TIG welding and 304 Stainless Steel piping. I am very happy with Mike and Steve work on my car. If I knew they have TIG welding and 304 Stainless Steep piping, I would have done my entire cat back with them. When I am about to pay, Mike also give me discount from the original quote that we agreed. A few days earlier, I actually had visit another very popular muffler shop in Anaheim who can also do TIG welding/Stainless Steel and they also have very good rating on yelp, but when I get there, the owner of the shop is NOT that friendly to me, so I decided not to have my exhaust modification there and I am glad I found and choose MIke at Orange County Muffler. In summary, Mike and Steve at Orange County Muffler in Newport Beach/Costa Mesa do a great job (Mike as the owner of the shop still do TIG welding for you), they offer TIG Welding service at reasonable price and 304 Stainless Steel piping, located in Newport Beach/Costa Mesa only 30 minutes from my home, and the most important of all for me is, Mike and Steve are very friendly to me as customer. I always come here with my projects because they usually can just figure out a solution, no matter the situation or how complicated it is. Mike is not going to bend over and kiss your ass, get over it, they aren't rude, they have a job to do and will do it very well. They will lie and say that the muffler doesn't fit and will need customization after they took off the original muffler and it's gonna cost you $300 and if you don't want to do it, you have to pay to put the original back on $100. Took it to another shop, they gladly torqued down the bolts to my catback, and fixed the leak. NO RVT needed. The RVT is used as a failsafe, NOT to fix the problem. I never asked to use it as the gasket, I wanted the bolts torqued. read more

Brought my Porsche 997 here to get some custom piping done. Mike is the only place in town that uses stainless steel and has a mandrel bender. The work done was perfect. The fitment of the piping, the welds, and the alignment of the tips were all spot on. Price was fair for what I was getting. It's not cheap, but it is fair for the quality of the work. Call ahead to check his availability, know exactly what you want done, and be prepared to wait because it did take the entire day, but the work is as good as it gets and good work does not come fast and cheap. read more

I had my stock muffler replaced in my Jeep. I use my Jeep as intended for rock crawling/off-roading and my stock muffler was bashed. The owner helped me pick out a high clearance replacement. The job was completed quickly and turned out great. I was hesitant because I didn't want the exhaust to drone or annoy me, but they picked out a great muffler. It's only loud when you get on the throttle, but no drone at freeway speed. Highly recommend them to anyone! read more

They got my car looked at right away, and offered to do a weld fix for $40. That was great, but then I realized the muffler was pretty end-of-life. You know what? Not sure how or why their ratings are so high. Few things; 1) I understand there is no way to tell exactly how any given set up is going to sound on any given car, but it's their job to help you understand. Between Mike and Steve I got two separate and short answers to my questions...and I drive an 07 Chevy Tahoe. Common 5.3 truck. 2) They charged me the equivalent of $250/hr in labor. Mikes response was it's a flat fee structure, not hourly...Mike word it however you need to help you sleep at night buddy. 3) This is inferred by points 1 and 2, but the attitude and customer service is terrible. These guys are great. I hit some scrap metal on the freeway and it opened a hole in my exhaust. The flange bolts on my muffler sheared off on a Sunday and the muffler was hitting the ground and drive shaft making a terrible noise. I was able to make a redneck repair with a pair of vice grips and some tie wire just to get myself to a shop. I pulled into Orange County Muffler on a Monday morning at 8 and was out the door by 9 with a nicely welded $50 repair. Staff was friendly, knowledgeable and honest. Does great work for a somewhat decent price. The customer service however was some of the worst I have ever experienced. After getting new flowmasters put on, we were talking to other people about where to get the car painted and whenever we brought up exhaust at OC Muffler, it was always the same exact response which was horrible customer service. On my car specifically, after pulling out of the lot, we noticed that the front spoiler was totally missing. We called the shop and instantly they went into a totally defensive "bash the customer" mood and started getting mad at us, the customer, about how we could come back and watch 48 hours of security footage. There was no other explanation for our missing spoiler especially since it would have had to be taken off in order for the car to make it onto the lift. read more
