They always suggest replacement or unnecessary services, the quotes are shockingly high, and they want you to buy into programs to reduce fees. I'm so thankful I finally found HVAC Buddies. We called them for help when our AC went out again only 3 months after the last technician (from a private equity-owned company, you'd know the name) replaced our refrigerant. Eric was extremely prompt, professional, upfront, and trustworthy. He identified a leak, topped us up with fresh refrigerant to get us through a a few days of upcoming hot weather, and scheduled the replacement same week, even if it was a complicated one with a crane needed and rooftop installation. The crew was efficient, professional, and thorough, and the price was almost half what we had been originally quoted by the other company.

I reached out to a number of different HVAC companies on Monday evening, and HVAC Buddies was the first to respond. Erik and his team (two guys) arrived at 7am the next day, and Erik quickly determined the problem and laid out my options: repair the AC, replace the AC, or replace the entire HVAC system (AC and furnace). He provided me with multiple quotes for AC-only replacement and HVAC replacement (at multiple price points). One thing that I appreciated was that Erik went out of his way not to upsell anything and made clear that it was my decision, but still answered all my questions and gave me his professional opinion. I ultimately decided to replace the entire HVAC system due to its age (around 15 years old). HVAC Buddies also offers payment plans through a third-party lender, so I was able to set up a payment plan with 0% interest for 36 months, which is always a welcome option for large expenses like this one. Erik and his team came back on Thursday morning with the new unit and worked all day to get the new HVAC system installed. By 8:30pm on Thursday, my AC was running again. All my questions about the installation (and other HVAC-related questions) were answered. Erik was very communicative throughout the entire process. I'll be using HVAC Buddies for future HVAC needs.

I own a town home. I've had numerous problems with my sewer and have had several plumbers look at…read moreit. Most recently about 25 feet of sewer line outside my garage crashed. The first plumber knew there was a problem because he put about 40 feet of rod through the clean out in the kitchen, which came with the house. He noted that it was only about 17 feet to the sewer main. He didn't have a camera and never came back. I called the plumber I normally use. I thought that if I was going to change a pipe, I might as well have a clean out installed. He located the problem and dug a hole about 5 feet down. There wasn't a pipe there. Before talking to me, he dug a hole a couple feet away and changed a pipe to install a clean out. He threw out the pipe before I could see it and tried to convince me that there was a second problem. He didn't come back to seal the hole until I called the Illinois Attorney General. I called a third plumber who located the problem in the common area. He dug a hole so deep they hand to dig a stairway so they could get in and out. I called a fourth plumber who located the break on a 45 degree angle in the common area. I contacted All Star Plumbing and Sewer. Michael found the problem right away. They dug a hole about 3 feet deep 6 inches from where the second plumber dug his first hole around 2 feet from the end of the clean out. The pipe actually went straight down. It kind of makes sense because some units had basements, but the issue is I had about 15 feet of unnecessary pipe and about 3 unnecessary turns. All Star fixed that design flaw by putting an elbow on the end of the pipe and turning it out. They verified that there were no tie ins after that point. I put gallons of water through that pipe to test it. It works great. The other thing is All Star is legit. As part of the due diligence, I checked his license with both Chicago and Illinois on their web site. He gave me a copy of his insurance certificate. I even checked his business with the State of Illinois and it's in good standing. He gave me the permit and dig numbers. I could see where the utility companies marked the lines. I was there with the building inspector when he examined the work. He wouldn't take Bill or my word for anything. He wanted to see it. The inspection passed with flying colors. He was listed as A+ on the Better Business Bureau's web site. His Yelp reviews were all 5 Star. I agree All Star Plumbing and Sewer deserves all the stars so I'm giving them another 5 start review. The icing on the cake is their price is reasonable.

All Star Plumbing did a great job for me. They solved a tricky long time problem with a slow and…read morerepeatedly clogging bathroom drain system in my very old house. It was challenging to pinpoint the exact section of pipe causing the problem which, as it turned out, was behind a wall within a void that had to be accessed from another floor, but they were persistent as well as cheerful and polite throughout the entire process. I think the pricing was good for what they had to do. I also had them replace a leaking kitchen faucet, which they did very efficiently. I would hire them again.

The line was rodded out and the leak was confirmed to have stopped in the unit below. Unfortunately, this is where all the problems started. Everything that happened next is completely outside the scope of why they were even called onsite. Despite me telling the plumbers that nothing in my kitchen was leaking, they insisted on poking around and checking under my sink. While under there, Chicago Pipe Authority literally broke one of the drain pipes to my sink with a wrench, immediately leaking water all over the place. After they BROKE MY DRAIN, they turn around and charge me $185 to fix it. This is the plumbing version of extortion. This drain has worked without flaw for 6+ years until they broke it. Sadly, it does not end here. They also decided to break and disconnect the drain pipe to my dishwasher. Again, not a single leak in 6+ years, but Chicago Pipe Authority took it upon themselves to disconnect it, break the pipe collar and then try to charge me $500+ to fix it. I refuse to pay this amount, and asked them to just put it back the way it was, and they have been barely responsive since then. So now it's been about a week that I am unable to use my dishwasher. Chicago Pipe Authority is not returning my calls or emails, and after seeing this review, they will probably never will. And that is probably for the best, because if they came back, they would likely just break more stuff. So if you want a plumbing company to create more problems than it solves, and then CHARGE YOU to fix those problems, then this is the company for you. Beware. Their reply to this is total nonsense. I agreed to the PVC only after my sink drain was broken (by you) and was totally useless. The seal leak is negligible and had nothing to do with the draining or leaking you were called for. I did threaten to write a honest review, and as expected, you finally replied afterward. Sadly, that is the only way to get attention from some people these days.
