Pros: they got insurance, license and all the required paperwork. They also pick up phone calls. Cons: their rates are definitely on the high end. I hired them to change a water valve and got charged for about $350. The work lasted for an hour mainly waiting for the water to drain at first. However, I still got charged for one and half hours, even the time past one hour is the technician sitting on the ground figuring out how much to charge me. The charge on the parts they provided are also much higher than Home Depot. I know that because I bought extra as backups from Home Depot. read more

I've used Fettes Love & Sieben a couple of times over the past few years, and have always been extremely happy with their work. For this particular occasion, the wall behind my shower was making a squealing noise when the shower ran. Except of course when the plumber got there. Wouldn't make the sound at all. He still helped me diagnose the potential issues given my impersonation of the sound, and even helped with another slow drain issue while we were waiting for the shower to replicate the sound. We were quite disappointed by this experience. We were charged over $1,000 to find a leak and eventually discover that a new faucet was required to stop the leak. This work took over 4 hours and included the Plummer leaving to go and pick up a new faucet. During that one hour, we were still charged the hourly rate, which turned out to be about $200 per. Subsequent research discovered that this was in the area of twice the going rate for such a job. There was no communication along the way regarding the possible large costs associated with this project. To be fair, the work was completed and the leak was stopped, but given the overall experience we had, I would recommend at least finding out about a range of cost before having them begin the work. I believe their competitors would have done a good job at significantly lower cost. read more

I had a terrible experience with these guys. Charged me an hour of work. Were there for 30 minutes. Basically looked around the basement and outside. Told me the reason of why I had water in my basement was due to the slope of the side of the house and the main line is not pitched. 190 dollars later and didn't bother checking any of the sewerage lines which is why I had them there in the first place. 3 hours after I had a different crew come out which diagnoses the issue within 10 minutes. Checked the line which was holding water. Proceeded to clean it. 3 days of heavy rain followed and 0 water in the basement. They basically made 190 dollars for 30 minutes to walk around and give me the wrong diagnoses and not bother to check anything. Would not recommend. read more

The sound of dripping water isn't usually cause for alarm....unless it's coming from a light fixture! S***!!! Fettes, Love & Sieben was recommended to me by my folks whose building has used them (as well as the folks personally). I called them up, and within 45 minutes a plumber was at my house (and not some rookie plumber, but a plumber with 40 years experience under his belt). After a couple of hours, an opened ceiling, and hunting around, the source of the leak was found and stopped (my frikin upstairs neighbors HVAC), which is as much as I could ask for in this situation. I came to find out that this company holds one of the oldest plumbing licenses in the city, and if the plumber on site can't figure something out, the owners of the company are there to back them up (as essentially everyone is a plumber -- with LOTS of experience). I don't think pricing was out of line. Definitely not cheap, but expected from union plumbers (and for immediate and good service -- fair nuf). I'm glad to have this name as my go-to from here forward. read more

He understood my 100+ year-old house's guts and took the time to explain and show me why we were experiencing a problem and what to do about it. When I first called FLS for an issue with our disposal, John recommended that we simply reset it and said, "I don't want you to pay for a service call if you don't have to." Cool! Except, we tried that and the thing was still having issues, so we called back and they sent a guy out. I wish I remembered his name, but he was prompt and professional. When he resolved our situation in about 10 minutes he asked if there was anything else that needed to be looked at - he didn't want to take advantage of us since we'd already paid the service call fee. We went back and forth about removing the disposal all together and then he fixed the drain stopper in our bathroom. I appreciated his honesty in fixing the disposal and not saying that it needed to be replaced when it didn't. His offer to check out other issues in our condo was nice because I didn't feel taken advantage of at all. I'm so relieved we found these guys. After using an emergency plumber and 2 well-known/larger businesses that do HVAC/electrical/plumbing who all failed to assess the issue, we finally got an answer on a recurring sewer main backup due to roots in the line from FLS. They not only cleared the block, but used progressive-sized cutters to fully remove the roots and used the camera to make sure their work was complete. They showed us the entirety of the line with the camera and recommended we rod the line more frequently to prevent any future buildup. It was such a welcome change from the haste of the other companies we used, who not only try to prey on your lack of knowledge but also don't fully troubleshoot and treat the issue. Scheduling an appointment was easy...I didn't have an emergency, so I was able to pick a day where a 2-hour window was easily accommodated. And I liked that the plumber called at the beginning of the 2-hour window on the day of my appointment to confirm my address, and to give me an ETA. He arrived right on time, based on what he had told me, and confirmed (before he started any work) that I knew their hourly rates, and how billing worked. I had a sewer line in the basement that collapsed under the toilet. The only way to know how bad the line deteriorated was to dig up the floor. FL&S came in and dug up the cement/ dirt which they hauled out and corrected the problem. It was a messy job but they did a great job cleaning up. Fettes Love & Sieben falsified information in a report they created on 5/21/2012. If you are looking for a company to falsify plumbing documents/reports give them a call. They also billed us for work performed on 5/23/2012 (two hours of work 251 dollars) for rodding out a pipe which took less than ten minutes. I don't even think the plumber was present for 5 minutes. When I contacted them via phone and email (3 times) they simply did not respond. The person who signed the report is named "steve" and there is no last name. If anyone else has had similar experiences please message me since we are trying to put together a group of people for legal recourse. Real old fashioned crooks. read more

I had a toilet tank that wasn't filling and a leaky kitchen faucet. I thought the toilet would be hard to fix and the kitchen faucet easy. Actually, the opposite was true, according to my plumber from FLS. Patrick was efficient, helpful, friendly, and honest...telling me that my (circa 1999) faucet would cost more to fix than replace. Great experience with FL&S..start to finish. I discovered water coming from the ceiling in my basement...from four places. Identified the culprit as the toilet above the area, turned off the water and called these guys. They came out exactly when they said they would..the plumber was polite, quick and thorough...he explained what had caused the issue, and the work he did to remedy it. Patrick is amazing! I had a leak from my toilet which was evident from the discoloration of the marble around the toilet. I originally had another company come out, look at my floor and tell me (without doing a thing) that there was nothing wrong because there was no water on top of the floor. They charged me and did nothing. The discoloration kept spanning out to more marble so I called Fettes. When Patrick arrived, he immediately saw the marble discoloration and determined that the toilet was leaking through the marble because the caulking around the base of the toilet wasn't letting the water out.
