I love bento boxes, especially Taiwanese Bento boxes, so this obviously gets five stars from me. One note is that you need to know what to get, though. Not all the dishes here are five stars, but if you know what you're doing, it's five stars. I prefer the five-spice fried chicken bento box. It seems like they vary a little, the vegetables, depending on what's in season or what they got, but it generally always tastes good. I really like the Taiwanese cabbage. It's flavored well and salty, but not too salty. I would totally skip the pork belly unless you just love eating fat. I find that it is pretty much all fat and very little actual pork meat. The beef brisket stew is a hit or miss. Sometimes it is also too fatty, and once in a while, it is okay. Probably safer to stay away and just go with the five-spice fried chicken. The bento boxes are a better bang for the buck. The other dishes like bowls are much smaller. I also really like the sausage on the side. Yum, Taiwanese sausage. Anyway, highly recommend this place for a quick meal, but you need to know what to get. read more

Portions are smaller than of other bentos from other places. Flavor was decent, but a little soft and soggy from the built up in condensation. Sides tasted good but I wish there was more protein. There's even less protein in their special Thai chili x chicken set (it has lettuce stacked under the chicken). The attached picture is B5 aka pork chops. They did serve us at our table, the bento boxes seem very elaborate but a little unnecessary since we had chosen to dine in. There's a self service table in the back to get utensils, seasoning (sauces), and water. It was well organized and also labeled as well. Drink was good (winter melon lemon aiyu) but it was little sticky on the outside, which is a pet peeve. Very cute restaurant serving Taiwanese "bento" boxes! Seriously, the inside is so cozy and clean - I would come here just to hang out with people or get some studying in, it's like a cafe almost but instead of coffee they serve taiwanese classics like fried chicken and braised beef and have a full boba shop menu. The food is pretty standard - it's pretty similar to other taiwanese spots in the bay. Everything is self serve so you go to a kiosk to place an order and then you go pick up the order. Overall a cute spot - I'd come back often! Other notes: The tables were a bit greasy but that just comes with self serve places - the water is self serve along with a utensils and condiment station. Our early dinner consisted of the Wednesday special chicken leg bento, special meat sauce sausage over rice, Pop corn chicken and Taiwanese tempura. We got a lot food for the price paid. Perhaps because the food were all cold, we thought the flavors didn't quite hit the spot, some were just too sweet. Both the popcorn chicken and tempura were a little dry. Been to this location a few times now for easy pick up orders. They're usually pretty busy, at least compared to their Santa Clara location. My order is usually ready and waiting for me shortly after I order online. They haven't missed a beat which I'm grateful for. My go to orders include the golden crispy tofu and their popcorn chicken square. I've also ordered their new family meal special last month for a great deal: 2 entrees, one large chicken ginger sesame oil soup, large stir fry veggie mix, and large rice with minced pork topping for $45. It was a really good deal with decent portions to feed 2 people. Will continue visiting both locations since it's always easy and high quality food! read more

It's a tiny bit far to go every week but I can certainly see myself going there again and again. They have a few specials going on right now - my favorite is the $9.99 Wednesday grilled chicken leg bento... and of course I had to get in on their 4th anniversary special with their refillable boba cup (with any purchase). Pro tip: they open up the orders for the anniversary special the night before so order for next day pickup at 11pm and you should be able to get one. :) You just bring the cup back each time you place an order, show them the receipt and they refill your cup. I love that the cup has a screw-on straw cover so the boba drink can be shaken. MUCH better than the 1st anniversary milk bottle that was next to impossible to use! The grilled chicken leg was flavorful! Today's came with a spring roll, sesame tofu, garlic broccoli, cabbage, rice, and of course the grilled chicken leg. It's counter service. You walk into a kiosk, choose what you want, pay for them, and wait for someone to call you. Obviously, there is online equivalent to save you time. The Wednesday chicken bento is an excellent deal. I am tempted to do it every Wednesday. The chicken thigh was cook perfectly, somewhat sweetly sauced (it was said as "honey" chicken). Side dishes were well prepared and rice generously portioned. It's good for a hearty meal. I had Salmon salad on a different occasion. It was generously portioned, well prepared, nicely included with chips and croutons separately. Salmon was grilled a bit too much, still delicious. Counter style restaurant that serves healthy Taiwanese food. It was the perfect little lunch spot for me, since I was looking for something that was 1. Asian 2. Healthy and 3. High protein. I ordered a salad (just ok), cold bean curd oyster mushroom (yummy), and chicken leg (huge and very yummy). When I think about Taiwanese food, I think of fried chicken and boba...so I'm glad that a place serving healthier Taiwanese options exists. However, this place does have the typical boba and popcorn chicken options too, if that's what you're looking for. Service is ok, interior is clean but straightforward. Very quiet on a midday Sunday. While there are a few tables inside, it isn't a huge place. My pickup experience was a bit confusing. Services is really good too, the nice ladies give good recommendations and are very kind. There's several clean tables inside if you want to dine in but I usually take out. I always go on Wednesdays where they have a chicken leg special for $9.99. In this economy, that's a crazy deal! Food portions are super decent too, I often have leftovers for the next day. The food is pretty basic and portion size is regular, so don't expect anything overly fancy, but they do have a good amount of protein selections and drinks. Five Spices Fried Chicken Cutlet Square (2/5): The portions are generous, coming loaded with 5 lengthy strips of fried chicken! But why are they so girthy? Usually Taiwanese fried chicken is flattened to be very thin to maximize the crispiness and batter-to-meat ratio but these pieces were way too thick. Someone needs to grab the meat tenderizer and vigorously, aggressively pound these bad boys flat! The crispiness was average, maybe it had been sitting in the black plastic bento tray for a while. Five spice flavor was good but can use more salt. I do like the assortment of side dishes you get too but they could all use more seasoning and umami. Crispy King Oyster Mushrooms (4/5): These royal oyster mushrooms will be bouncing in your mouth while squirting out savory fungi liquid! Each piece is fried to a hot crispy golden brown and well-seasoned with white pepper. You can also add some spicy powder for an additional kick. Overall, would come back for the mushrooms but not the fried chicken cutlet. read more

I was in the area for a class, was excited to see this restaurant which I've been wanting to try! The order is done on a touch screen, I like that so I can look through the options at my leisure. I'm honestly beyond disgusted. I found ants and one cockroach leg in my food, and it completely ruined the entire experience. This isn't a small mistake--it's a serious cleanliness and hygiene issue that should never happen in a restaurant. The pork chop was super dry and thin, smell was off not sure where the 5 stars comes from. I immediately lost my appetite and couldn't continue eating. It makes me question how the kitchen is being maintained and what other issues might be happening behind the scenes. This is unacceptable, especially when you're paying to dine out and expect basic food safety standards. I will be reporting this to the local Health Department, as this is a clear violation of basic sanitation standards. Orange square, more like Worange wuare. This place is the truth. Their bento boxes are sturdy and sustainable. No leaks at all. They have a label saying how long you can reheat safely. Dog even their plastic bag was sturdy as hell. The chicken leg was incredibly tender and fall off the bone. They don't skimp out on your protein portion. The vegetables were crisp and everything in general was well-flavored. Nothing was any bit close to being too salty. They have a great system going and are constantly pumping out bento boxes which are filling but not decadently so. You would think a place so dedicated to takeout wouldn't keep it's grounds clean but the tables and general area are pristine. Go here. read more

We're spoiled as O2 Valley down the street has been our favorite/go-to Taiwanese bento place. We were excited to try this new one. O2 is still our preference. The "B05 Marinated Pork Chop" was quite salty and very thin pork. The "B04. Crispy Chicken Cutlet" was good, but not as good as O2's The best one we got was the "B03. Pot-Roasted Beef Brisket". So we were so excited to see the opening of this place as I've always wanted to try the other location but never got a chance. This location is much closer to me and it's in a great little shopping center off Stevens Creek with lots of parking! We went for the braised pork belly box and the chicken leg box. They were both packed very nicely in a cute little box and had a good portions. Both were delicious - though I'm a bit torn on the sides. We got some strange miso? sauced cabbage and a very tasteless cardboard fried tofu skin roll in a non descript sauce. The broccoli and stir fried veggies were good and very typical. So the sides brought the whole box down. However the pork belly was delicious - sliced up and quite a good serving size that was delicious with their rice. Very tender and great flavor. Their grilled chicken leg was also very flavorful and tender - not dry at all - though I definitely could see the chicken drumstick but I don't think we got the side with the thigh? I think we just got the little drumette with white meat. Ours looked nothing like their website and there was no thigh meat that we can eat or see... So that was a bit disappointing. However, the flavor was good and again the chicken was tender so it was "good". The one thing we loved was their golden egg yolk taro ball! That was DELICIOUS - crunchy on the outside - not oily at all - creamy taro on the inside and the egg is a bit salty. So you get a bit of sweet, salty and crunch! Was a huge hit for us. Drinks were okay. We did like they have watermelon drink selections as it's in season now and they have quite a bit of selections. I wouldn't come just for the drinks but I would get a drink to accompany my meal. Service was nice - it looks like everything comes to you as if you're to go so all packed up nicely. Came by a quick lunch the other day as Shihlin is closed Mondays. Ordered ahead and my order was ready upon arrival. Orange Square is located a couple shops next to Lee's Sandwiches in Cupertino. They appear to be in soft opening phase with some staff attempting to put together a table in the middle of the dining room with a mask and uniform t-shirt. The vibe of the restaurant was bizarre with one of the auntie workers speaking in a high pitched outdoor voice non-stop..it was beyond annoying... The crispy fried chicken came out on the salty side, over-fried, and very dry. The chicken didn't seem too fresh either. Shihlin is 200% better for a slight 20% premium in price. Portions are also much more generous at Shihlin. Food came in a paper bag with a QR code along with a website that had a typo with a comma in between the URL and com... *sigh* Once I got to the website via QR code, there were typos on the website referring to "qualit" along with the month of April during the month of July?!? $9.99 for very dry, over fried chicken in a very loud and annoying environment. read more
