While their beef is reasonably tender, the flavor of the actual soup didn't feel that deep and was mainly driven by salt/MSG. The noodles had a slightly off texture about them. Went here on a Monday night and there was no wait, we got to pick what table to sit at. There's a QR code to scan for a menu, but the waitress gave us physical menus (which I prefer). Tried the braised beef shank noodle soup with flat noodle, and the broth was really flavorful and not too salty. There were 3 pieces of the beef shank, but 1 piece of beef had a tendon stuck to it, so it was a bit hard to eat. The other 2 pieces of beef were really tender though. We were confused when the waiter brought our noodles before the chili wontons, because usually the appetizer arrives before the entree. We had to ask another waitress if the other waiter who took our order actually ordered the chili wontons for us, she checked for us and apologized and brought the dish to us. The chili wontons meat texture was ok, the chili oil was pretty spicy (not mala spicy which can numb your tongue) and had a nice crunch from the peanuts. I noticed one wall in the restaurant had Chinese characters printed on it. The restaurant does have a more modern design and the food did come out pretty quickly since the broth is already made ahead of time. Both the braised combo appetizer and the beef noodle lost some flavor compared to Fremont store or even previously in cupertino - which was really the best in bay area. Appetizer - the shank was not even braised at all. The bean curd and hundred curd also lack flavor compared to before. Beef noodle- still good but lost some flavor. Pork meat sauce dry noodle with handmade noodles 4/5 - It was a good dish overall. The meat sauce was delicious, like a lu rou fan type of flavor. However, the meat to noodles ratio wasn't great. The handmade noodles were the thick type and while they're well made, I don't think they go well with this dry dish (they prob would be better in the soup dishes). It's indeed an all-time favorite that can't go wrong with my kiddie taste buds. The beef soup is just a clear broth with a few slices of beef but the meat portions are reasonable and the flavor is good as the Taiwanese cuisine likes to use ginger to wash away the bloody taste of beef. The half meat half tendon beef noodle soup came out the latest and compared to the Flaming Ox Taiwanese Noodle in San Jose, we could immediately tell the difference. I don't particularly enjoy the flavor of the Sichuan pepper, so I don't appreciate their 23 spices recipe. The tendon was cooked nicely but the beef was clearly losing to Flaming Ox as the cut was smaller and the meat much rougher. We ordered the combo for 2 and it was a steal! $54 gets you 2 cold drinks of your choice, we chose Milk Tea and Four Seasons Tea, Beef Noodle soup with Shank and Tendon, Shrimp Fried Rice, Pork Chop, and Steamed Veggies. There was even another promo if you chose between downloading their app and signing up, you get another free fried pork chop. I downloaded the app but opted for the complimentary Wood Ear Mushroom salad instead for variety. The service was good, we came in when it was quite empty and within 15 minutes of sitting down, it quickly became a full house. Still, we were given pretty good service and can't complain! Went for dinner around 6PM at Duan's Kitchen on a Saturday and there was an iPad to join quite a long queue. Luckily, a lot of folks on the waitlist no-showed, so we only waited about 10 minutes, but I can definitely see the wait time getting pretty high on weekends. Parking lot is shared with Marina Foods, so it's fairly easy to get a spot especially if you park a bit further out. Portion sizes are okay; if you're a big eater, you might want to order some sides. Tomato Beef Shank & Tendon Noodle Soup (4.25/5): This was actually better than the basic beef noodle soup in my opinion. The broth had way more depth of flavor with a bit of added sweetness and acidity from the tomato. Beef shank and tendon were both super soft and the noodles weren't quite as bouncy as I'd like, but still had a decent chew. Braised Beef Noodle Soup & Tendon (3.75/5): The broth just felt a little bland and the noodles / toppings are the same as above. Braised Dish Platter (3.75/5): The tofu is AMAZING. The broth is the star, lots of flavor and herbs. The noodles are also nicely cooked. Wish there was slightly more meat though! -Pork chop: we got a side of pork chop because we didn't think we could fit another carb. It's nicely seasoned and fried. Yummy beef noodle soup! I think this is probably my go to for beef noodle soup at the moment. I typically like their non tomato based beef noodle soup with beef shank and thin noodles. The broth is rich and flavorful, and it too spicy. Beef is tender! Another dish we often will order is fried rice with either shrimp or pork chops. My husband and I both like Din Tai Fung's fried rice and also pork chop better, but this place is pretty good with rarely any wait. We've ordered a few of their appetizers (mostly cold ones), but I haven't really liked any of them. The 4 stars is mostly for the beef noodle soup. Everything else is 3-3.5. Vibes are casual and family friendly. Speaking of Djn Tai Fung earlier, it almost feels like a casual version of that. Service is pretty efficient, and food comes out pretty quickly which is nice. Everything we ordered was really good, from the soup to the XLB to the braised side dishes. My group's favorite was actually the popcorn chicken! It was fried perfectly and so flavorful.
