We came here for dinner on a Saturday and arrived by 5:30pm. There was no line, and we were seating right away. Service was nice and friendly from the start which was great. The tables and restaurant were clean and nicely spaced apart. You're able to have a conversation at a normal volume without feeling like people are sitting on top of each other. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and would come back again. Ordering is done via your phone and QR code which I think is great. You're able to order at your own pace and see exactly what you've ordered. I believe each person at the table can also "contribute" to the same group order which is nice. We tried a variety of dishes including the XLB, pan fried pork buns, green onion pancake, chicken potstickers, pork wonton (chili sauce on the side), and beef pancake rolls. Everything was brought out quickly and tasted nice and fresh. There is one service experience where they went above and beyond. I accidentally dropped one of the beef pancake rolls on the floor. This was completely my fault. I felt terrible and profusely apologized for the mess that I made. As we were enjoying our other dishes, they were so kind and brought us another order of beef rolls which allowed each of us to try it. It was just fried rice with some egg in it. I have had better tasting fried rice elsewhere. The marinated cucumber was interesting and delicious. Had a nice sweet, tangy and nice crunch. Since then, I've been to a few other locations that were much better, but I happened to be in the area and my fam was craving dumplings so we came. We've been here many times before, but this visit felt a bit different from our usual experiences. There was plenty of seating available for parties of four or less, but the seating layout itself felt tight. Even at an average height, the tables and spacing leave you feeling a bit cramped and squished, which made the dining experience less comfortable than expected. Service was average--not especially attentive or helpful. Cell service inside the restaurant is poor, which made their QR-code ordering system frustrating and ineffective. When we asked for a paper menu so we could check off what we wanted, our server gave us some pushback. As usual, the portions fit the price point: smaller servings, but expected given the lower per-dish cost. I had a nice dining experience here with some friends on a weekday! It's a part of Main St Cupertino, around the corner of Meet Fresh, Ippudo, Somisomi. There's a parking garage for retail if you're struggling to find parking. The restaurant has a modern and chic feel to it with a nice ambience to it. There was a fair amount of beef for the price and it was not fatty, tender. The boiled pork wontons and chili oil was a truly big heartbreaking disappointment for me because I was looking forward to that the most, and it was served slightly cold and stuck together, and there were only five super teeny tiny wontons. The sauce also was just very one note. The portion was super minuscule. There are definitely positive aspects to this place. The lunch special provides a nice combination and options for a soup dumpling choice, a noodle dish, and a drink. We liked the Dan Dan noodles. There wasn't a ton of it, as you can see from the picture, but it was good. The drinks were well prepared (flavorful and not too sweet) as well. The fried dumplings (sorry, no pic of those) that are all joined by some light/crispy bits on the bottom were delicious too! My primary reason for not giving 5 stars is the soup dumplings were good, but not great. The pork ones were flavorful and the dumplings were filled with savory juices from the pork, but on both the pork and pork/crab dumplings, the dough wasn't really up to the highest standards. Thicker than ideal and a little more doughy. No real danger in the skin breaking and juices flowing out before you eat it - because it's fairly thick. The crab/pork one wasn't quite as juicy or tasty as the pork-only ones. Price-wise, given today's prices, this was a fine deal, priced fairly. Came here on a Monday night at around 5 PM and no one was there. When you sit down, there will be a QR code at your table which will send you to the menu. You can then order directly from toast tab. The inside has a fried wonton wrapper, which I know gives texture, but it tasted mealy to me. The cucumber was barely pickled, and even though it was very pretty, I wouldn't order it again. The noodles were tasty, but they were kid sized - think 4 year old. The second time I went, it was only the XLB and the green onion pancake with some tea. I think this place is XLB is in the top three for me in the Mountain View/Cupertino area. The flavor is good, the soup is plenty, and the skin is ever so slightly thicker than I like, but it keeps all of the juice in, so who am I to complain. I also enjoyed the spicy wontons, but thought it wasn't spicy at all - more sweet with a hint of chili. The zha jiang mian was decent, but my friend didn't really liked it. We love Dough Zone and have enjoyed trying their different locations. Given the consistency across restaurants, there is some redundancy in this review, but essentially their kale salad with sesame dressing is killer (though it could have used slightly more dressing this time), but they don't offer much in the way of supplementary dishes for vegetarians who are largely gluten free. I've resorted to bringing outside broccoli (sorry, not sorry) to turn the kale salad into more of a main dish. This solution makes it a five star meal but I give myself one of those. The ethics of outside food notwithstanding, if Dough Zone had a vegetarian add-on without fish sauce for the kale, I would go every day. Even so, I like going often. read more
