TLDR: Best value! Chicken Sausage. Bok Choy! So upfront, this is why we are giving this place 5 stars. The food itself isn't 5 star worthy. It's good, pretty authentic Chinese food, that caters more toward the Chinese palate. But it doesn't have a signature dish that is top 3 or anything. But the service was very friendly (unusual!), but more importantly, the prices were very cheap! We got there on a Saturday around 6:30pm. We were worried it would be crowded, but there were only 2 other tables. Let's get the main thing out of the way... the food. We got a braised beef vermicelli soup. Unfortunately, that was one of the only soups they had. The owner said they don't make that many of the soups during the spring as there is less demand for them. The chicken sausage is a rare Taiwanese dish. Not many places have it! This one was pretty good... Crispy on the outside, tender inside. The onion pancake was just ok. Not enough onion. But the outside was crispy. It's just a little tasteless. The veggies were cooked REALLY well. And I'm NOT a veggie guy... I just eat them because my wife and colon make me. But it was dressed simply but very tasty! The salt-n-pepper pork chop was ok. I think I would have preferred the fish instead, but my wife thought that since the pork dish had a picture (the fish didn't), then it means it's better. It wasn't that good. More breading than actual meat. Super crunchy though! So, now we get to the 5 star part.. the lady waitress (who I assume is also the owner) was super friendly. She mainly talked to my wife in Mandarin (I don't understand it at all). Normally they will just ask how's the food and leave. But no, this lady STAYED and talked for a good 5 minutes. She explained that we must be new, since all they get now are regulars. And that she's afraid to raise the prices because it might scare the regulars away. It's a bit sad, but good news for you patrons! It means the food is REALLY cheap. Even my wife explained to her that in order to get a good chicken sausage elsewhere, it would cost around $10. Here it was only $8! Plus this place is in Saratoga! The place is in a pretty dark and empty strip mall. A little out of the way from the big centers. First time for me to come and bought food from this small Mom and Pop's type of restaurant. My friend said the food here are authentic and taste good so we tried it and bought a bunch of food to go! The place is small so expect longer waiting time during meal hours, it's clean, plenty of parking spaces. The moment I walked in there was something calm about the whole atmosphere like you didnt feel rushed or overwhelmed and the staff seemed genuinely friendly not in a forced way but just naturally kind and helpful the food came out without too long a wait and everything I tried was full of flavor like they really knew what they were doing in the kitchen not trying too hard just letting the ingredients speak for themselves it was comforting in a way not too heavy or greasy but still filling and well prepared the place itself was clean and organized not fancy but it felt well taken care of like the people working there actually cared about the space and the guests and thats something that makes a big difference for me even if the food was good which it was the warmth of the people is what stuck with me the most. read more

Easily take the cake of the worst restaurants I have tried in a long time! We ordered DoorDash and I was shocked at how small the portion for all the dishes. We order 3 different kinds of "over rice" and each box contains 4/5 rice and 1/4 dish w the same sauce. I counted 2 small shrimps in my combination rice and the rest are all carrot and canned bamboo shoots, are you kidding me? And that would have been fine at least if it tasted good, but NOPE! Came here before the restaurant was not a big attraction, feels more like something from the 80s. However food was surprisingly good and authentic. We ordered to go today - a beef noodle soup and a braised pork rice. Portions are big and taste was the same good Taiwanese flavor. Noodle soup was still hot when we go the order home, which is 15 mins drive away. Beef was tender and soup was flavorful, just like what it's supposed to be in TW. I ordered the pig ears/tendon/beancurd snack, ground pork and rice, pork's feet and rice, salt and pepper spareribs, and taiwanese spinach. Most of the food were delicious. But the batter on the salt and pepper spareribs was too thick for my taste and not enough meat. But it was still crispy when it arrived. Pros: This is a good place if you are looking for some quick meals. They do offer a wide variety of choices with reasonably low prices. Staff is very friendly. Cons: food taste were just OK. Pork feet weren't fully cleaned as there were still quite a bunch hairs (usually shouldn't be that many). If you look for "finer" Taiwanese dining in this area, Liang's Village or Red Hot Wok will be better choices but they are more expensive too. read more

At places like Taiwan Taste, I tend to order conservatively. Don't get some weird Seafood noodle dish that is on the last page of the menu or something. Go for old faithful. For us, that was the Fried Chicken Rice Plate and the Fried Fish Rice Plate. Both of the mains were excellently fried. The fish was really fluffy and tender, almost like an elevated fish and chips kind of fish. Both plates come with some stir fried cabbage, minced pork sauce, pickled mustard greens, and a tea egg. This place was a little hidden in my opinion. We came here about 45 minutes before they closed on a Monday and there was one family eating here; otherwise, there was nobody else in the restaurant. The outside of the restaurant was not very well lit, and I wasn't very familiar with the surrounding areas. The menu had a lot of things you would see in a Taiwanese restaurant. The main reason we came here was for the Beef Noodle Soup. We ordered the Green Onion Pancake ($4.95) and each ordered the Beef Noodle Soup ($8.75). The Green Onion Pancake were good and always a safe choice to order. The Beef Noodle Soup was delicious and tasted very similar to the Tai Kee Won Ton restaurant except just not as spicy. The broth was great, the beef was a little dry but tender, and the noodles were good. I would recommend the Beef Noodle Soup if you're on a quest to find Taiwanese beef noodle soup in the Bay Area. There were a few bugs/worms in our vegetables, and another indicator that they were not washed well was the amount of dirt you could see. The eggplant was fairly tasty - good texture and taste, but the chicken chow mein was too greasy. The salt and pepper fish could have used a few more minutes in the fryer as it was not crispy (the underdone fish may have been what gave my husband a stomach ache). The sauces on the table tasted a little weird (old?), and the service was lacking, even though we were one of the only customers there. The only item I did not like so far was the turnip pancake. I was very disappointed in this because it was mushy not the kind you find at dim sum. If you want the authentic beef noodle soup look no further because this is your spot. If you want the oyster egg gelatin pancake you can find it here. If you want the Stew Vermicelli with Pork Chitterlings it's pretty similar to Taiwan. Don't understand the bad reviews to be honest. The flavors were good except the turnip cake. Meeswa / Mien shien (thick vermicelli soup) - this is what I came for but it tasted like hot and sour soup yuck. The worst part was I didn't know what chitterlings were (intestines), I always thought I was an adventurous eater but it was extremely gamey, chewy and disgusting. Craving Taiwanese beef noodle soup (almost always!), so I headed here. 8 PM Sunday night and there's only one other table occupied, which didn't seem like such a good sign, but the hostess was also trimming green beans, which I took to be a good sign of a solid mom and pop operation. Ordered turnip cakes and Taiwanese beef noodle soup for dine-in and a combination chow fun to go. The turnip cakes, as other Yelpers have noted, are bland, but pair perfectly with the garlicky, thick soy dipping sauce. The beef noodle soup broth is flavorful, the beef is tender, and the vegetables perfect. Next time I'd skip the chow fun, which came with kidney and intestine in addition to the regular chow fun ingredients, and didn't have that wok char that you want with chow fun. Stick to Taiwanese dishes and life will be good. Also, avoid sitting near the restrooms near the end of the night - I didn't and came to regret it as the chemical cleaner and other smells wafting forth were quite jarring. The noodle is very thin and doesn't get starchy or turn to a glob/paste if you let it sit. Most rice noodles won't last this long in a hot broth. Broth is slightly sour, sweet with oysters in it. All the noodle soups are good. Very authentic. The best version of all the taiwanese places. Reasonable price less than 10$ for each and large portion sizes. Bigger than what 1 person can finish. No english translation for most of the menu items. Much better quality and recipes than Liangs. Homestyle cooking; not corporate owned so the prices are very reasonable and portion sizes are good. Looked empty when we came for weekend lunch but hey it's pandemic having whole restaurant to ourselves is not bad. The noodle texture is on point. The cilantro and chives complete the flavor perfectly. I have tried other items on their menu but nothing else is as good as their rice noodle soup.
