    Red bean pancake
    April Y.

Been a long while since we came here but it's just as good as I remember. We like the pork XLB here - the skin is nice and thin, the soup inside is tasty and the meat has a good texture. It was also pancake mania tonight. The green onion pancake with beef was good; the pancake wasn't overly fried nor did it feel oily. We also really like the red bean pancake! It was so good that I was FULL and I still ate 3 pieces - haha. Just get it! The roasted sesame is just so good!

I found myself here in search of another dumpling spot to try in the bay area. But to my dismay I wasn't quite impressed with joy dumpling in terms of the taste of the food. I decided to start with the classic pork dumpling which were the least impressive xiao long bao I have had in the bay area till now. There wasn't much soup inside, the dumpling wrapper was too thick and the pork wasn't flavorful. It did not have the sag of a well made xiao long bao. Would not recommend. The steamed fish and shrimp dumplings were the only dish I liked here. The fish tasted fresh and had a melt in mouth kinda texture to it with the shrimp complementing it well. I would only recommend this dish out of everything I tried here. The string beans with garlic didn't have much going for the dish. It lacked any kind of seasoning and flavor. Even the beans didn't have the crunch that you expect out of this dish. To end my meal, I went with the sakura shrimp fried rice which was a disappointment. The shrimp wasn't great, the dish lacked basic seasoning.

Haven't been more disappointed with a restaurant in recent memory. We were in the plaza and decided on this restaurant on a whim as it looked large and ambiance was welcoming. Every dish we got was executed very poorly and I was forced to leave food behind. *chow mein: this was a sloppy mess, the noodles were barely cooked together with the rest of he ingredients. There was not flavor whatsoever. *diced chicken with peppers: large pool of oil floating at the bottom, the chicken didn't have flavors infused. *corn soup: I realize we need to add salt to our taste in this dish but inspite of that the dish was flavorless. No umami at all. *fried rice: this was the only passable dish of the evening, nothing outstanding but nonetheless better than the other dishes.

Stopped by this place looking to try the Xiao Long Bao. It looked promising when I saw other people's order. The bao was definitely larger than ones than other places. I guess that's why they have 6 to a basket. The shumai didn't taste like the ones you get at Hong Kong style dim sum. The filling was flavored with ginger and was loose (didn't have a chew to it). The beef noodle soup was tasty. But the beef was tough to chew. I think it is because they use rib meat instead of the shank, and was not stewed long enough. The restaurant was pretty loud and I don't think they had the AC on when we were dining there. The door was opened but not much circulated air throughout the place. The wait staff was quick and efficient in taking order and asking if we needed to pack the left overs.

We ate here on July 4th and we were very grateful the restaurant is open as many places were closed because of Independence Day holiday. The parking was ample in the strip mall and the restaurant Is big and clean. The xlb soupy dumplings were juicy and meaty, my son really enjoyed eating it. Beef stew noodles had a very flavorful soup base. The beef was a bit tough but the noodles were good. Stir fried green beans with intestines - this is a combo I don't usually see at restaurants but I think the intestines weren't cooked crispy enough so the soggy oil made the green beans soggy too. I like my stir fried green beans to be crispier and drier. Shumai - the Shumai had ginger and green onion filling which threw us off since those are not the usual ingredients in Shumai. Because of those ingredients my son didn't want to eat it. I was ok with it. Overall I think it's a good neighborhood restaurant for a quick bite. The service here was good.

Stopped by Joy Dumpling around 11:30am on a Sunday and waited about 20-30 minutes for a table for two. The wait wasn't too bad, but the service after being seated was disappointing. Staff seemed to prioritize larger groups, and our table was mostly ignored, we had to get someone's attention to get our rice, which arrived instantly after we asked. We ordered beef rolls, Mapo tofu, and string beans. The string beans were the best of the three. The beef rolls were dry and bland, and the Mapo tofu lacked flavor and spice. We also ordered XLBs but didn't receive them at all- we ended up cancelling that order since we were over our meal. I saw a lot of tables receive their orders relatively fast but ours never came. Overall, a sucky experience and the dishes weren't very good.

I've been here so many times! Food is average but since the price is considered on the cheaper side for the area, I keep coming back. XLB is their best dish and my go-to. Tried the Shumai this time. Not really a fan of their flavor as they put ginger in it. Service: very fast paced. They like to ask for your order soon after sitting down. I guess most people are regulars and know what they want. Ambiance: it's very noisy since they do not open any windows and keep the doors shut.

This place is spacious inside. If you come during peak time, there's usually a line. Their food comes quickly, so the wait usually isn't too bad. The XLB is juicy inside and the dumpling size is bigger than Ding Tai Fung's. I'd say the skin is as thin and comparable to Ding Tai Fung's too. We tried all three kinds: the regular pork ones, pork with crab meat, and the shrimp with loofah squash. They're all good. The flavor of the three-cup chicken is good, however, too many bones. They chopped the chicken with bones and there were fragmented bone pieces. You'll need to be careful when eating this dish. Their steamed beef dumplings are good, but a bit on the salty side. The sliced beef and cucumber roll with green onion pancake is so-so. Only has one thin slice of beef and there's not enough meat inside, compared to other restaurants I tried. Their fried rice are tasty. We tried a few before and they're all decent. The picture below is the Sakura Shrimp fried rice and it's very flavorful without being too salty. The steamed sole fish (filet) is surprisingly good. Worth a try if you haven't ordered this before, and no fish bones! Their scrambled eggs with prawns is good. A lot of prawns and tasty eggs. A good protein dish. Their sauteed veggies are pretty good too. We tried the sauteed A-choy and bitter melon with garlic. Both dishes are decent. The boiled tofu with house special sauce is excellent. If you don't want to wait for long line at Ding Tai Fung, this is the place to come. Of course if you want way better (Americanized) service, go to Ding Tai Fung. This service at this place is like typical authentic Chinese restaurants, don't expect too much.

Chicken mushroom soup with no noodles or rice

Decided to give this spot a try and ordered the chicken mushroom soup to go. When I went to pay, the woman at the counter told me they only accept cards for purchases of $25 or more. She asked if I had cash, and even though I did, it felt a bit off-putting to be forced to use it instead of having the option to pay by card. The inside is pretty basic--just a mural on the wall, with standard tables and chairs. Nothing particularly inviting or cozy. The soup was ready in under 10 minutes, which was a plus. Unfortunately, it was very simple--just chicken, mushrooms, and broth. It was okay, but nothing memorable. Overall, the experience felt underwhelming. The cash-only policy for smaller orders, the plain interior, and the average food didn't leave me wanting to return. Maybe there's a reason it wasn't busy during dinner.

Xiao long Bao's soup's distinct flavor was gingery. The wrapper and pork filling had good proportion, enough filling with the wrapper not too doughy. Filling was ok. Most of the flavor was in the soup. There's a a dipping sauce on the side which was soy sauce and ginger slices. The Green Onion Pancake with the Beef had good amount of beef slices rolled in between the pancake. Also had cucumbers slices and fresh green onions. The beef slices were quite dry. The beef tasted just like the beef in a beef noodle, usual five spice taste Staff were nice. Big open space for dining.

My family came here as a table of four around lunch time on a weekend and this place was packed. I think we waited about 20 mins for a table to clear up. Staff were busy so service was a little slower than expected, but I'll let it slide since it was obvious there was a lot of hungry customers. This place is a decent size so it can get loud with how many people there are. The soup dumplings were juicy and savory with lots of flavor. The other dishes were just alright, not much flavor to it. I'd only come here to try out the dumplings, they're a good size and have a reasonable price tag on it.

First impression: the brought just enough vinegar sauce for our xlb ( see picture ).The service is fast too fast that the check came even when we are ready for it. The food are good. I will come back just for the food.

Wifey and I are stuffed after this but will cleanse our palate with complimentary popsicles in the freezer by the entrance. So yes, the seafood boil and food is absolutely phenomenal. I usually go to Cajun Bistro for seafood boil, but I find the quality of the seafood there to be inconsistent, which made me want to try a new place. I got the 4lb combo with crawfish (frozen, fresh is $5 extra), shrimp, and clams, including corn, sausages, and potatoes. We also got garlic noodles and a calamari basket with cajun fries. For seafood boil sauce, we opted for the cajun instead of lemon pepper. I wasn't sure if I would finish everything, but it was INHALED. I really like the seafood quality here, but sauce-wise, I prefer Cajun Bistro for the garlic butter sauce. Cap't Loui does not offer that sauce, but it was still delicious overall. Service is timely and our food came fast, so thats a big plus. Only complaint I have here is that I wish there was more sauce in the bowl. The bowl had too much food, so I couldn't dip or soak my seafood in the flavor.

My friend made reservations, and we were seated quickly in a nice booth. The menu is a bit small, but the choices are excellent. I had the two taco platter with one steak taco and one breaded cod taco with chips and salsa and a side salad. It was completely scrumptious. The steak taco had a slightly spicy chipotle-type sauce on it that gave it a nice flavor. The cod taco had a big piece of fish lightly breaded with a different kind of sauce that was also very good. I'm surprised by how much I enjoyed the side salad. I'm not much of a garden salad person, but the salad was extremely fresh with delicious edamame and miso dressing. I loved it. My friend also had the two taco platter, but she chose a sea bass taco with pineapple and a breaded shrimp taco with black beans and fries as sides. She enjoyed it. The waiter explained to us it was his first day and was attentive and polite. One dish came out incorrect, and he apologized profusely and took it back to the kitchen immediately to be fixed. But when I saw that this far-from-ubiquitous chain had opened an outlet right near my home, I figured I'd try it. And I was pretty satisfied. First off, they have a lunch special, which is smaller than their regular combo. Second, you get two out of a choice of half a dozen shellfish: I picked clams, which are really easy to get the meat out from the shell, and crawfish, which aren't so difficult to extract the tail meat (the only edible part worth the trouble) from either. Comes with potato and/or corn. Third is that the food comes with not only a bib and a towelette, but clear plastic gloves. I put these on and felt no difficulty in eating off them, and they did keep my hands clean. I like that. Although there are two levels of spiciness below "mild," I found the mild to be not too spicy, and the Cajun seasoning was delicious, worth scooping up in my gloved hands after I'd finished the seafood. They're good, but not the best I've had. With my combo 1, I got head-on shrimp and clams with the atomic sauce and mild spice. I heard the atomic was a combination aka Whole She-bang etc. which is what I normally get from seafood boil places. It was ok, nothing too special, very chunky sauce with lots of garlic. The mild spice, however, was really more like a medium spice as it only took a couple of shrimp to really feel it. For my head-on shrimp, most of the shrimp heads were already like detached from the body which defeats the entire purpose of it. They were also on the small side which I know it's by the pound but it's noticeable. It was very underwhelming in terms of that. The clams were good, not much to say about those other than they were absolutely drenched in the chunky sauce. Overall, this place is ok. Nothing really stood out to me compared to other seafood boil places.
