I like this small but nice place. I wanted to try out a place I haven't drank yet and this faintly popped up. Now there're many options on the menu varying from ice cream, to mexican food, to drinks. My choice was the V-6 green juice as it seems to be a good choice and it was. I feel healthy drinking it, green stuff are always have that satisfaction when drinking it, and my only gripe was that I wished it was much colder. I also tried the Strawberry Licuado and it tasted so natural I was very happy with it. The last thing I tasted was the Vampiro; a freshly squeezed juice with orange, carrots, beets and celery. I am a bit of a health nut so this juice really appealed to me. They have a wide variety of juices I am interested in trying out very soon. My partner is in love with this place and is always suggesting we go Whenever I get a torta from there, the queso fresco is actually melted which takes a while but feels like it is made with love. Their quesadillas are delicious too since it has actually vegetables in it rather than just meat and cheese. The smoothies were pretty good too. I had a berry one that was reminiscent of Jamba but a little sweeter. Maybe they put apple juice in it. The only thing I didnt like was that they put cotija on their tamales, but I just dont like cotija. This is a five star compliment for a specific Orange Sunrise employee, at the Alum Rock location, by the name of "Maricella" who also goes by "Mary". I started going to this Orange Sunrise location last year and met Mary who was absolutely kind, professional and did her best to communicate with me with the English she knows. Soon after that, I stopped going to Orange Sunrise because of the other employees unfriendly and rude attitude towards me because I am not a Spanish-speaker, but Mary is not like this, she is friendly to English-speaking customers as well. Unfortunately, it became clear that the other employees were only friendly to all Spanish-speaking customers which is not cool at all, and bad for business. The owner will receive a nice call from me about his great employee Mary, who deserves this Five Star review. So terrible. I love this place for the tamales but when I paid, the girl at the register wasn't paying attention to the $10 bill I gave her and short changed me. Then when I pointed it out, she argued with me and refused to give me my due money back. I come here all the time for tamales and smoothies. Who's down for tamales? Our close family friend recommended orange sunrise as a place to order tamales for our traditional Christmas Eve meal. I was a bit skeptical due to the non traditional name. We placed the order a week ahead and I was surprised at the variety of tamales that they had available. We ended up ordering Chile Verde. Chicken, and sweet pineapple; a dozen of each. Pickup was a breeze they were on time and hot, straight from the steamer. When dinner rolled around we were delighted by the taste and texture of the tamales. There's ice cream, shakes, smoothies, and different sorts of Mexican cuisine (tamales, tortas, and empanadas.) This place offers tortas in different flavors; ham, turkey, pork, or tamal. I tried a ham torta, they toast the bread so it's satisfyingly crunchy, and they serve it wrapped on a plate. It was soo delicious. Next I got the mango smoothie. Wow. These smoothies are so good. Yesssss. My 2 favorite things in the world found in one place. This place is it. They serve both tamales (and other foods) plus an array of smoothies and juices. I ordered a large kale green smoothie with all the works plus spinach. I also ordered a chicken tamale and green pork tamale. The total was only $10. Unbelievable. It costs an arm and a leg for green juices at other locations. The tamales were paired perfectly with their house salsa. Careful, it's actually spicy. So after discovering this spot, it looks like I'll be coming back here whenever I have a craving for a green juice/fresh smoothies. It seems like a family owned business, and they have what seems like an odd variety of food choices on their menu, but it somehow works and even gives the place a little charm. You have the option to buy tortas (Mexican sandwiches), tamales, fresh fruit cups, smoothies, fresh squeezed green juice, and a variety of ice cream flavors. My boyfriend and I tried the vampiro juice and the berry smoothie, and I would highly recommend the vampiro juice if you can stand the taste of beets lol. This is a hit or miss place. They have a lot to offer in the way of authentic Mexican style smoothies and drinks and it's a really nice atmosphere but you never know what you're going to get from day to day. I went in today at about 3:30 in the afternoon to pick up Tamales for dinner and waited in line (2 people ahead of me) for about 10 minutes. They use a Square check in so that people can earn points toward rewards, which I saw the people ahead of me use. When it was finally my turn to place my order, I asked the girl if they had Chicken tamales available today. She muttered something under her breath and walked away and started filling blenders with ice (?). I waited patiently and as she busied herself, she motioned the older lady who was also working to help me. The woman spoke only Spanish but I placed my order in English. which was 4 chicken and 2 cheese Tamales, plus a slice of cake. Generally when I do that the person will switch to English but she didn't. She asked in Spanish if I wanted my tamales "prepared" which I answered, "No just plain" in English. The lady placed 2 chicken tamales in a container and set it on the counter and then motioned for the other gal to ring me up. The girl didn't ask if I had a phone number to check in with and again, speaking only Spanish, asked if my tamales were prepared. That's when I realized she spoke ONLY Spanish. How is a Mexican/American business supposed to operate when the people who work the register only speak Spanish? This business missed out on a much bigger order! As much as I can usually get by with my own broken Spanish, I didn't even want to try. I left with my 2 tamales and went to Cardenas Market instead (The checker there switched to English for my anglo-ized ass, which I humbly thanked him for) . The pumpkin tasted home made, the ice cream had lots of flavor and the mangonada had fresh mango and good tasting sherbert. Overall great experience.
