If going for a straight up manicure and pedicure, then this spot will decently enough do the trick, especially if you're close by & need a walk in appointment. $35 for a mani/pedi. They weren't busy and I didn't have an appointment. I asked for a mani/pedi and the woman said they could do that at the same time and right away. Little did I know she meant have one woman do the pedicure while I sat in the chair, and the other woman sit on the side of me trying to do my nails. I say trying because I was twisted so awkwardly... she didn't change sides, just had me twist over to her. It would've been more relaxing had I not had to concentrate on two people telling me when and where to move my four limbs. I walked in at 6:45 p.m. and I walked out, dry nails and all, at 7:20. They were very rushed/fast. Manicure: the paraffin wax treatment isn't what it's cracked up to be because she left the wax on my hands for less than 30 seconds, which is not enough time. The polish job she did was horrid at best. She actually was only going to do one coat at which point the woman doing my toes looked up at her said "you do two coats." The good point is that my actual hands & nails look good, even though the polish job sucked (started chipping that night, and by day 2, looked like I'd been wearing the polish for over a week; the fact that she didn't paint down to the cuticle made it look worse too... like it had already grown out.) Pedicure: this woman was much better, though unfortunately, the polish on one of my toes chipped the next day. She was a little rough at times, but I think it's because she was going fast. All in all, $35 isn't bad, but I've experienced better and might actually pay more elsewhere if I'm in the mood to feel more relaxed and if I want longer lasting results. read more

Have to update this to reflect poor service. I didn't mention it in my review after my first visit, because it was clearly an accident, but my manicurist cut my finger open with the nail file. Again, an accident, he cleaned it and apologized. Well, went back for another mani/pedi, and it happened again with a different staff member. The spa bath was broken but rather than moving me to one that worked they let me sit in one that didn't bubble and wasn't very warm; this was before the pedicure that left my feet still dirty and manicure that I felt like I could've done on my own. I was in a pinch and needed a nail salon in Silver Spring. It wasn't terrible, but I won't be returning. The place is garishly decorated with neon signs inside advertising their services. There were a lot of people working but lots who didn't seem to really be doing anything. I went in for a gel manicure and pedicure ($45 - reasonable). It seemed to take forever! The person who did my pedicure was actually really great, my manicure, not so much. Also, it was disconcerting to me that some of the nail technicians were eating corn on the cob in the salon! It kind of felt like being in someone's living room. As I said, not terrible, but if I have a choice, I won't be choosing it again. read more

I've been a regular at Orchid Nails since I moved to Silver Spring a few years ago. I've tried out a few other places, but I always come back to Orchid Nails. I mostly get pedis, but I've gotten a few manis from time to time. They redesigned the layout a few months ago and it's as nice as ever. If you go on the weekends, parking at the Wayne Street garage is free and convenient. Can only remember having gotten one sub-par pedi there in all the times I've been, but I don't think she works there anymore. I recommend highly. Every polish color under the sun and pros with gel manis. Spa options as well if you're up for some extra pampering. read more

I've experienced better because it used to be SO MUCH better at Orchid Nails...I've only been going here for about 9 months but when I started going I absolutely love it here! I've become really disappointed that my gel nails no longer last a full 2 weeks w/o chipping, cracking or falling off. My last experience really was the "last straw" if you will. I got my nails filled and when I left the gel still felt a bit tacky. I was careful all evening as they continued to dry but when I woke up in the morning each nail had bubbles and/or imprints in them. I called and asked if I could come that evening afternoon work to get fixed and they said yes. I had to ASK for them to fix every nail, aparently she was planning to just pick and choose which ones she thought needed it. They charged me 8 bucks for a "polish change" and the same thing happened again! I've lived with yucky looking nails for a week now and in the past hour I have lost 3 nails.....I'll be spending my evening at a different salon getting these taken off and will go elsewhere for my next set before leaving for vacation next week. Sad that I no longer have a place in my neighborhood to go, but would MUCH rather drive to Rockville and go somewhere that my nails stay on for 2 weeks....I miss Tony!! Before I probably would have given this place 4 maybe even 5 stars but now that the nail tech Naly had left I think not. My last fill in was absolutely horrible from start to finish. I wish I knew the nail techs name so I could advise you NOT to go to her. I had to go to a different nail shop just for them to start all over because of the horrible job that was done. I've known about this salon for years due to the fact my bff is a regular there. I've been in the past but this time was my first in years and based off my visit it will be my LAST. The salon itself is very clean and put together. Would of gave it a little chance and a better rating just by them having their pedicure bowls lined with plastic. I've been trying to find a salon with that for months. Anyway I go in ask for a full set gel & I get TOMMY he was fine at first all the way until I noticed my nails where thick and lumpy. I asked if he could use the drill- he did, than proceeded to buff over the same lumpy mess. I asked if he could do it again because I was not pleased he grudgingly stated that it was because my nails where curved that's why it looked that way I told him to look at the nail he muffed under his breath and huffed at me... at that point I told him i would take my lumpy nails elsewhere than asked for his manager. The manager saw what I saw stated it needed to be filed which is the same thing I said but to him he chose not to without an attitude. I asked for another tech to finish the job from there she was very pleasant and did what I asked for...he muffed and stormed off.....I was through with Attitude Tommy. I know he'll still be there because my bff had a bad interaction with him as well. Unlike her I will not be a returning client. I will support where the support is really needed. Don't proceed to take our money if you are going have people like this in your salon that don't know what they are doing and are unprofessional. read more

I got the manicure with gel/ pedicure combo and overall, I had a good experience.... except the fact that the lady I had did my nails extremely fast and wasn't very approachable. I was in town visiting from Seattle and met up my friend for a pedicure followed by dinner. The place is a bit grungy but it is one of the better pedicures I've had in awhile. We were able to sit beside each other and visit while the gals went to work on our tired feet. I left the salon with brand new toes and the polish has lasted over a month now! Went in for a Brazilian for my first time, so I have nothing to compare the experience to, but it went well. $37 Mon-Wed which isn't bad at all and I was pleased with the results. My only problem is the use of ready made wax that probably other customers used, double dipping is fine if it is waxed prepared for me and then disposed of for the next. No rash, irritation or any pain afterward. I expected it to be uber-painful, but it wasn't at all. Some lady bits more than others hurt :-) My tech was very kind and informative, answering all questions I had and engaging conversation. I hadn't planned on it, but she convinced me to get a pedicure lol. I've had three pedicures and all were the same. I have to comment on the sanitation (-1 star) side of things as tools are not taken out of sterile packaging and I question the cleanliness of the massaging chairs, which do feel awesome. My tech didn't speak much English, only interacted when it came to money like an up sell, she handed me a paper with the services listed with full description and pricing. I did opt for the runner's pedicure ($38), because the description sounded relaxing. I do not have rough feet, but she was scrubbing with a look on her face as if it was the hardest thing to do lol. I felt uneasy for a moment til I remembered my feet are not rough and calloused. It was pleasant, she massaged a little, applied all these types of oils and creams. I do wish the experience lasted longer, it did feel slightly rushed even though there weren't many customers. She did do a good job overall. I think she forgot about me under the UV, I got regular polish and that takes less than 10 minutes to dry. I removed the toe thingies and waited for her to return, but not long an employee yelled for her to come get her customer (me). I paid by credit card and I signed, but the thing that takes away a star from the rating is she handed me back my receipt to add a tip, she pointed to it. I was about to get heated for a moment, but I'm a lady and just put $10 split on there since she didn't understand my asking how do I split the tip. I had cash and was going to tip each $10, but I felt pressured into tipping and my passive aggressiveness reared its face. I did not like that at all and I will be sure to tip the nice lady her other $5 that waxed me next time I go in. Overall overall, I am pleased and will try to make Orchid Nails my monthly trip for a Brazilian. read more

Pretty good place if you need quick service, i.e. before a business trip, in my case. I went in for an eyebrow/lip/sideburn waxing and it look the lady less than 10 minutes. She did a good job cleaning my hairs up and making sure all the little wax pieces were off my face too. The only thing is that she doesn't take too much time shaping or using the tiny scissors. The first time I went to this shop I had a decent experience. My friend from out of town had come to get a fill and suggested I go there when I needed one. I walked in, they took me right away. The lady at the end did a great job. She put up with my indecisiveness around the polish color and I walked out with wonderful nails. About a month later I walked in asking for a full set and again they took me right away (chair 8 I think her name is Linda). The set was decent except for a crooked index finger which she tried to fix but couldn't really. My problem came when toward the end of the appointment she made me pay before finishing polishing my nails. When I first set down I heard murmurs of my nail tech and the tech next to her saying "she won't pay," wanting to get out of there quickly and peacefully I ignored it as I had no idea who they were talking about. My tech didn't respond much to anything I said, which I don't really mind, but when I got up to choose my polish she requested that I pay first. Feeling a little humiliated already i hesitantly agreed. I payed, picked up my polish to finish. While waiting for my nails to dry the tech was nowhere in sight, I decided to call it a day. While I was walking out another tech stopped me to ask me if I had paid. Overall the prices and services are decent but the customer service is wack (for lack of a better term lol) and I definitely won't be coming back read more

I only gave the two stars because my pedicure and toe polish turned out perfectly! When I came into the salon, the nail tech rushed me to pick a color and sit down. I showed her a picture of exactly what I wanted (coffin shaped ombre nails), which she barely looked at, and told me she could do it and that it would cost me $41, which was EXTREMELY high for me considering I had gotten the same thing done somewhere else for only $37. Nonetheless, I decided to give her a try. I sat down in the pedicure chair, and got my pedicure done by someone else while the original tech worked on my fingers. First, she shaped my nails ALL WRONG. (I asked for a coffin shape and they turned out really thick and really crooked) then, when she began to polish, she started with the wrong color, and when I asked her if she would get the RIGHT color for the ombre, she told me it would be an extra $5 for two colors... Even though I originally showed her EXACTLY what I wanted and she gave me a price that I had agreed to! Then she "finished" but my nails had NO ombre and looked NOTHING like the photo I brought in, and what she did do was very sloppy and rushed. I showed her the photo again (for the 5th time since I had walked in) and she said that she could do it over but it would cost me an additional $20! (She also said that she didn't do it correctly because she didn't think that I could afford it, which was very rude and very discriminatory. ) I politely paid her and walked out! I really like Orchid Nails, and am *so glad* to have found a salon up here. The women there are very nice and they are great about walk-ins. The prices are incredibly reasonable (my last mani-pedi there was only $35), especially considering that they use paraffin wax for their manicures. They take cash and credit cards (no checks, but who does), and you can add your tip in with your card. Not.A.Fan. I had a terrible experience at this salon. I walked in, said hello and was ignored for 5 min. even though there was a woman sitting at the first station, close to the front. I finally walked up to the first lady and said that I would like a pedicure. Before I could ask how long the wait was, I was told to sit down and wait. I was taken aback because I didn't think that I was rude to her, but I said nothing. When the pedicure began, I knew that it was going to be an interesting experience. I was right. The woman said that I couldn't soak, she was rough with my cuticles and my paint job was sloppy. I had to ask her to fill in the space that she left near my cuticles and clean the polish off of my toes at that top. Do you think that's the end? Well, it's not. When it was time to pay, I tried to give the woman my Yelp certificate and the woman told me 'no, thank you.' I tried to explain that it was a certificate, but the woman started yelling in her native language and the next thing I knew I was surrounded by 4 technicians. The owner took the paper from me and nastily asked what it was. I explained that it was a coupon and she abruptly walked off and called. Everyone was not staring at me and I was very agitated. But, I kept my cool and waited. When the owner came back, she gave me the wrong change (she should have given me $15, but she only gave me $5). I explained what the certificate was worth, but she started speaking her native language to the other woman and then told me that I was wrong. Now, I let her have it. I got forceful and told her to look at the paper again to see how much it was worth and explained that I only need to pay her $5 to cover my bill. She finally understood and gave me my correct change. I was extremely dissatisfied with this nail salon and will never return. I live in New York, and I hate how they do my nails. So every chance I get while im visiting DC/MD I try to get my nails done. My first time at this place and it was great. I walked in and was seated quickly. He was very nice and did a great job on my nails. (Tommy) He also made sure I had time to wait for my nails to fully dry. It never fails with me that I mess my nails up because I didn't wait. But I had time and my nails came out great. The price was good. Next time I'm visiting Sliver Springs I will come back! read more
