I was pleasantly surprised to find Asian fusion food in Lewiston last night. I say "surprised" because it's been awhile since I've been out and about on Lisbon Street in Lewiston, but last night's Art Walk, in the center of downtown was a perfect night to be checking out the sights of L-A. Our group was hungry after 8:00 and after walking around, and we were undecided about dinner. Given the great turnout for the Art Walk, all the usual eateries were busy, plus it was Friday night. One of our group suggested putting our name in at Orchid (they don't take reservations) and we found out the wait was only 20 minutes. The place across the street had a wait time of 45 minutes. Very pleased with my crispy pad thai, the deep-fried version of one of my favorite Thai noodle dishes. Orchid offers the option of adding a meat choice to their noodle dishes, including tofu. I opted for the latter, which was a great option. There are vegan and vegetarian options, too, and you can select your level of spice comfort (0-5), too. Our group of 5 were all very happy with our choices, which included some curry dishes, as well as the appetizers. Orchid offers a large selection of specicialty rolls, which are either sushi, nigiri, or sashimi. We selected the California, which was a sushi dish, with crabstick, avocado, cucumber, and masago. It was excellent. Nice selection of beers, some local microbrews on tap, plenty of choices in cans/bottles, and they have wine and cocktails, too. Service can be a bit slow on busy nights, like last night. The smell of the kitchen also can get a bit overpowering, too. These were minor, however, as the food and selections more than make up for it. Nice addition to the restaurant mix in the Twin Cities. read more

I ventured here solo last night. I was really craving sushi and knew nothing about the area. I looked on Yelp, and this placed looked like a decent joint. The inside was nice. Several low quality ficus bonsai greet you at the door. It had the feel of a dive bar, more than an "Asian Fusion" sushi restaurant. The beer selection was good offering several Maine made craft beers. I started with miso soup. Hands down, worst I've had. The greens tasted rotten. Next up was salmon nigiri. The fish was very thinly sliced over densely packed rice. For just about 10.00 it was over priced. The roll I finished with was decent. The specialty roll selection was pretty weak. I have eaten sushi all over America, and this is no higher than a 2 star joint. I'm bummed out because I don't get to go out often, and this place was a let down... read more

I got takeout and ordered Pad Kee Mow and crab Rangoon. When I ordered, the person taking my order was very friendly, and the same experience was had when picking it up. Both the main dish and crab Rangoon were very good. Cooked perfectly, with good seasoning. I asked for 5 for the spice and got what I think is a 3. This isn't a bad thing or something I'd hold against them as I easily can just make it spicier. All things considered, I'd give them a 5 star rating if prices weren't so high. The pad kee mow was a standard serving, but I think $13 is a bit pricy. Also, while crab Rangoon had real crab meat, I only got four of them for $7. read more

Five stars for the food....Green Dragon roll one of the best rolls I have ever had....the basil stir fry with chicken was also excellent. On food, I'd give ten stars if available......but.... Having worked as a server and in other capacities in food service there were two glaring shortcomings.....bearing in mind I was passing through on drive through Maine... One...the server could not answer basic questions about menu items...items she admitted were the most popular - the dragon rolls...plus she could not make eye contact and seemed like she had a bad day...until I walked to the rest room and saw her laughing smiling and high giving a co- worker (????) so...maybe she didn't like her job....there were just not any warm and fuzzy feelings from her ....it felt like we were an inconvenience... Two, the gentleman who I overheard to be either the manager or owner...talking to people at the next table over ...and there were only 4 out of 15 tables occupied....asked how business was he said slow....he never asked us how was our meal but asked two other tables...HELLO....what if I was new to the area and could recommend others to come and dine? Poor business model to only talk with customers you recognize...perhaps business is slow because he lacks the acumen to develop new business! Got the avacado salad and sashimi plate. It was very good, except the salad that came with lunch and the avacado salad both had water in the bottom of the bowl. Like it needed a salad spinner! Flavors were on point. Pork dumplings - YUM! Cocktails, not so much. I would stick to beer and wine. Service is just wonderful! read more

I've been here a handful of times now, all different days/times. I have sampled many different sushi rolls, they were all good! They have a great selection of beers as well. I highly recommend the Red dragon roll and crab rangoons as they have real crab in them!! The spicy tuna roll is also a favorite. I ordered the tuna nigiri, and my party sampled the pad Thai, lo mein, and "cashew" with tofu and brown rice, and crab rangoons for an appetizer. The sushi was ok, never saw two thin slices over Rice before, but seemed fresh. All other food was standard at best. The food is always great here. I gave it a low rating because instead of the waitress asking if I wanted a box, she came by and put a dirty dish from another table she had picked up on top of my plate before I could ask for a box. I had only eaten about half, so much for leftovers. read more

In the area for one night with three kids under 12 and looking for something that wasn't burgers and chicken fingers. What we needed was good food and attentive service and we got both. Food and drink quality was too notch. They had 9 craft beers on tap and a well stocked bar. As well as locally brewed sodas for the kids. Food came fast. We got the chicken satay, edamame, some noodles, and the rainbow roll. All of it was delicious. The sushi was especially good and presented well on the plate. Waitress was attentive without trying to push us out the door. I wouldn't hesitate to go back or to suggest a visit. read more

We just moved to Lewiston and were recommended this restaurant. The decor inside is well done with cool lighting and mosaics. We had the thai fried chicken which was super crispy and yummy. Then we both got some specialty rolls which the rice was super fresh (and the seafood inside but the rice stuck out to me.) We also got a shrimp fried rice which was on the lighter side for my taste with the soy sauce but that's exactly how my husband likes it. We will defintely be back!! read more

Just had the Lemon-grass Pork Chops! YUM!!!!!! Every time I/We go there it is a home run. Atmosphere is great, food is great, and service is great. For a lower cost restaurant, this place gives the higher end places I've been to in Vegas, Tahoe, and NY a run for its money. If you're a fan of sushi, this is the ONLY place in L/A to get it this good. You can read up on it, listen to other people talk about it, whatever, but until you honestly try the sushi here vs sushi in other places around town, you won't have a clue. Compared to other places that serve sushi, Orchid is fresh, unique, and flavorful! And the servings are above average, meaning you get more for your money at Orchid. Not a fan of sushi? That's fine too. I have had a lot of items off the menu, massaman curry with chicken being my favorite, and I haven't disliked any of them. If you are fan of Thai, Vietnamese, or Japanese cuisine, Orchid has some of it all. Everything is fresh and awesome! You need to eat here! read more

Mmmm Orchid is awesome. I should preface this with the fact that I don't eat sushi. But I love me some awesome pad Thai. The pad Thai at Orchid is different in a very good way. It has a very homemade quality to it, whereas others can simply feel like fast food. Everything was very fresh and flavorful. I heard they make their noodles in house and it shows. Now as far as the sushi, I can't comment but my husband can and he says two thumbs up. The draft beer selection is also incredible, with very unique craft beers. Incredible place..The owner Minh is awesome. He cares about you and your experience. He is always there and making sure everything is running smoothly and is super friendly to everyone. The beer selection is incredible. They always have rotating taps and it's always top notch stuff being served. The food, OMG the food is incredible, everything on the menu is incredible. Pick ANYTHING and it will be great. Ming, the sushi chef (I'm not sure of his exact title) is great. He is so consistent with his dishes and they are beautiful. Marvelous food in downtown Lewiston. Definitely worth the trip When there's sushi, Thai, and Chinese on the menu, there is usually one that is the cuisine to order. We had all three and they rocked. Noodles were fresh, nothing that came from away. We went Sunday afternoon, food and service were top notch. There's a bar with TV's in the back with hoots and hollers when somebody scored a goal. Atmosphere was like most local favorites, but the food takes the center stage. read more

This was by far the worst food I have ever eaten in my life. Two appetizers and one main dish... None of which were palatable.

You truly cannot go wrong with Orchid. All of their food is excellent and the service is always great. Their sushi is phenomenal, and their entree options are equally delicious (especially if you're looking for spicy - try the 5-star Pad Thai!) If you ARE looking for sushi - Orchid is hands-down the best place to go in the greater Lewiston/Auburn area. I would go as far as to say Ming is one of the best sushi chefs I've had the pleasure of ordering from. His station is always impeccably clean, and his artful and dedicated approach ensures any sushi roll, nigiri, or sashimi he serves is the highest quality and crafted with the attention required to make it fantastic. I have been living in another state for almost 30 years. Been back for 2 now. Was a huge sushi fan and ate it regularly. Have not found a good place until now! I live in Augusta and can say it is definitely worth the trip. Best around. Waitress was fantastic. Crab fried rice was super. Don't leave without adding a shrimp tempura roll to your order. Orchid is an amazing place when they're not struggling with time management. One of the best places in Lewiston if you want asian fusion. The food is phenomenal, the drink selection is diverse but sometimes when I order takeout, and arrive at the suggested time, they fail to have my order ready especially when the restaurant is practically empty. When dining in, the tip is automatically included and at times i find that my waiter isn't as attentive. Besides those two issues, I do suggest Orchid to anyone who loves fresh sushi, delicious pad thai and wonderful beer selections. read more
