Surprisingly, good Thai food in Windham. My family and I decided to go by for an early dinner. I think they're mostly used to pick up orders, so if you dine in everything is served in take away boxes. I asked what the server's favorite dish was (not most popular, that's obviously pad Thai) and he told me the drunken chicken. I ordered it, and it was delicious. I really really enjoyed it. We also ordered chicken satay, and it was very good, I love that they brined the chicken beforehand. Definitely give this spot a try, and for sure order the drunken chicken! read more

The food is very good. Perfectly cooked. Only complaint would be- every time I order pad Thai- I have to order it with extra sauce- sometimes they forget- and I have dry noodles. They only need to sauce it it up a bit more so it's not so dried out. read more

We ordered takeout from this place when we were visiting Grandparents house in Maine. The grandparents never had Thai food before and they really loved it. We thought it was pretty fresh as well. The fresh spring rolls were delicious and the sauce was light and sweet- the curry was light flavorful, and the veggies were fresh and crunchy in it - the lo mein and graprow dishes were also very good. I got the drunken noodles with vegetables, 4 spicy, and it was very good. Among the top I've had in terms of that specific flavor I'm looking for when I order it. The vegetables were plentiful and varied. The portion was very big also, dinner and lunch the next day. read more

I've eaten at Thai restaurants all across the US, and as traditional Thai goes this is among the best. We had both the larb and the gaprow, and both the flavor and the portion sizes were great. Some folks seem to be annoyed by everything being served in take out containers, but non-franchise restaurants have a terrible survival rate, and I'm fine if that's what they need to do to serve great Thai food at reasonable prices. 5/5 would visit again. read more

First Thai restaurant I have ever tried. I have tried many since, none of them compare to this. Their chicken dumplings are homemade, with a "special recipe"...whatever that means, but they are AWESOME! Crab rangoons are very small, have the carrot type texture to them. Their pad thai is heaven sent. Honestly, I wish there were more places like them around. Great service. Average fair, the food was okay. The thai tea was good. Soup could have been more pungent. Was disappointed in the Drunken Noodles because I specifically asked if it was the wide spungy noodles. It was not, the noodles were simply the wider long kind. Not the squarish spungy noodles I love. The flavor was okay. But for Drunken Noodle fans, you know it's ALL ABOUT THE NOODLES. I wish they had been honest, I'd have tried the green curry and likely would have left a far better review. My meal was served in a to go container. Which I didn't mind. Granted none made it to go. While I was mildy disappointed, one must remember that Thai Place is a bit in the boonies. So that's a really nice option. *** NOTE: I tried three Thai restaurants while in Portland. Best Thai food in western Maine north of Portland. If you headed up 302 and are looking for a place to stop in Windham for Asian food this is it. Wonderful, fresh made food in the thai style. Always fast and served in togo boxes ready for the road. It's not a classy sit down place but it's very clean and friendly. I stop by on my way to bridgton. This is by far my favorite Thai Restaurant in the U.S. let alone Maine. I have traveled and eaten Thai all over the States and I was beyond thrilled to find this place in the relatively humble town of Windham, Maine. The food is always fresh and the service is always excellent. Manny the owner always greets you and gets your food out to you in record time. It's not the fanciest of places, but it is always spotless and clean. If you aren't a local you might just drive by and not even notice it, but take my advice and try this local secret. Get some Thai tea it is a little different at first, but keep drinking it and you will realize how refreshing and delicious it is. Also order some steamed shrimp dumplings. I often get them with Pad Thai and although the dumpling are delicious the dipping sauce is amazing! I always pour the left over dipping sauce on the Pad Thai and it really is delicious, I wish I could buy a gallon of it and put it on everything. read more

This was my first take out experience with Thai Place. The portion size and overall food quality was solid. I ordered the Larb Gai....a traditional Thai ground chicken salad that is flavored with a lime and chili dressing. The dish was flavorful and had a nice heat from the chili offset by the cooling taste of cucumbers and the lime dressing. It was a solid dish. This has to be the worst Thai food I've ever had. Aside from the annoyance of eating with plastic forks on Styrofoam (A pet peeve of mine), the food was almost inedible. My wife and I ordered takeout last night from Thai Place. We regularly eat Thai food in Portland and have always enjoyed the great tastes of Thai food. A staple for me is massaman curry with tofu on the spicy side. The massaman I got last night was watery sweetish and bland with no potato and few vegetables. This was the worst I've ever had and could not even eat it. My wife asked for a dish with lots of vegetables and chicken and it was terrible. It had few and over cooked vegetables, the noodles were rubbery as was the chicken. She also could not eat it. Our dog did eat the chicken and tofu without any complaints. The owner Manny and his wife serve generous portions of all the typical Thai favourites - I must have had each by now at least twice - as well as some dishes that I can't find even in Boston. If you're hung up on ambiance and décor, go to the big cities (and pay through the nose). But if you're anywhere near Windham and want the best pad thai, curry, seafood salad, dumplings, spring rolls, satay and just about any other Thai-inflected dish you can think of, this is hands-down the place to go.
