Always on the hunt for some really good Wonton Soup.. unfortunately, I didn't find it. Ordered some wonton soup and it wasn't what I was used to. It had a ton of vegetables which typically I don't mind, but the broth and dumplings just tasted odd. Other food ordered: Appetizer platter- chicken wings, tempura shrimp, fried wontons, cream cheese wontons Pork pad thai- had nice big chunks of pork. It was okay. The service was great, but the flavors for me- I just wasn't a fan. Prices are a tad high. read more

This was the first time I've gone to zen Asian In over 10 years so it was a brand new experience. The woman and her husband seemed to be the only ones working. He made the food and she took the orders. By the time we were leaving it was pretty busy and she was rushing around trying to so everything plus taking walk out orders. I am vegan and explained that to her and they were able to accommodate me. I got the Szechuan Kung pao tofu. I got it spicy level 3/5 it did have some back heat but overall the initial tasted somewhat sweet. The tofu was nicely fried and there was a good bit and a good variety of vegetables. My mom got the Thai basil supreme with shrimp which had a red curry base. She got it spicy 4/5 and said it wasn't spicy and that mine was actually spicier. Overall we both enjoyed our food but the dishes were expensive. I don't know that I would rush back but it was good. read more

Zen Asia is a family-owned restaurant. They used to own Vietnam Star (Maplewood) and Vietnam Restaurant (Woodbury) so I have tried most of the food their food. The food is made fresh to order and always flavorful. At Zen Asia, it appears the owner, Nancy waits the dining area alone when I have visited a few times post-COVID era. She builds rapport with every customers that comes through. It feels very welcoming and like visiting an old friend. The ambiance is casual. Nancy will give you enough time to see the menu, will check on you frequently, and if you'd like and based on the busy level, she might chat with you. I recommend the Vietnamese spring rolls are my all-time favorite, egg rolls, and cream cheese wontons. For entrees, Hot & spicy chicken is all-time customer's favorite; as a person who doesn't like spicy food, it is actually flavorful and can be done without the spiciness. This place is incredible! Some of the best Asian food I've had. I recently had the sesame chicken dinner special that came with fried rice two wontons and an eggroll. The sesame sauce wasn't just your ordinary sauce out of a bottle, it tasted homemade with nice hints of ginger and garlic. The chicken was quality and tasted like it was freshly breaded. The wontons and egg rolls also tasted homemade and unique. The fried rice was perfectly cooked. Great experience. It can be difficult to find an Asian place that makes unique food and this place does exactly that. Impressive and very tasty. I highly recommend this place. One issue with this place is that it's hard to find on Google (searching the typical "Chinese food") and I don't think anyone in the area knows about it because they're never busy. I pray this place gets more business, they deserve it. read more

Stopped here on a lark while running an errand in the neighborhood on a weeknight. The place was fairly dead, with just another seated table and an occasional to-go order. We had the Vietnamese spring rolls, bun tom xau, and com dac biet. Please go easy on the oil, we couldn't even finish our food because they were so much grease, it made me sick afterwards. Zen Asia is a little restaurant in a little strip mall behind Cub Foods in Shoreview. They serve primarily Vietnamese food but do offer Chinese as well. We go here several times a year. The food is always fresh and tasty. The little Asian Hostess, waitress and everything else works her tail off for everyone daily. Just go and enjoy her and the food. I've always liked Zen Asia but haven't been here for awhile. I stopped in for grilled pork and eggroll (noodle salad) today. Holy mackerel! This one knocked my socks off! Nancy, the proprietor, has upped her game. Super-friendly, attentive service is just the beginning. After eating here it'll be hard to go back to someplace where the noodles are a bowl of ho-hum brown stuff with lettuce and onion. Besides super-fresh lettuce and herbs, here the salad noodles come with colorful additions like ribbons of carrot, slivers of red onion, bright red pepper rings, and thin slices of mango. The nuoc cham is light, spicy, and tangy. Prices are up this year but the food and service are SO worth it! It was just me so I didn't get an order of their special spring rolls as an appetizer, but I'll come back with friends to get those. They are worth a trip. read more

This is a great example of how to do food right. The curries are fantastic. I do stress that when you ask for extra spice that you are prepared for EXTRA spice. This was a 5 star plus experience! The lady who runs the place is very helpful, kind and accommodating. Our order was complete in under 10 minutes (to go) and it was one of the best Asian cuisines that we have found in these parts! We will definitely be going back for more. We had the Chinese Lo Moen with chicken and the Bun Salad, Bun Thit Nuong Cha Gio which contains rice stick noodles with grilled pork, egg roll, and salad.
