I am incredibly disappointed with the experience my husband and I had at Orchids this evening. I have dined at Orchids many times over the years and almost always order the same entrée....the risotto. I know exactly how this dish is supposed to be prepared, which is why I was so surprised when it arrived completely wrong. Instead of the creamy consistency I have always enjoyed, it was runny and watery. It was simply not prepared correctly. I brought it to my server's attention, expecting the issue to be handled with the level of hospitality I have always associated with Orchids. Unfortunately, that never happened. My replacement entrée took an incredibly long time to arrive. After waiting far longer than anyone should have to for a corrected dish, I finally told our server to forget it because everyone else had already finished eating. I never actually received my dinner. What is most disappointing is that there was absolutely no effort made to make things right. No manager came to speak with us. No one offered to package the corrected entrée to take home. There was no gesture of goodwill, no acknowledgment that I had effectively gone the entire evening without a meal because the kitchen made an error. To make matters worse, my husband ordered the market-price porterhouse steak. We simply asked if the rosemary potatoes could be substituted with mashed potatoes. When our bill arrived, we had been charged an additional $14 for the mashed potatoes. When I questioned the charge, our server said she spoke with her manager, who explained they could remove tomatoes from a dish but could not substitute another side without charging for it. I found that response astonishing, particularly considering the price of the steak and the overall cost of our dinner. At that point, it wasn't even about the $14. It was about the complete lack of customer care throughout the entire evening. Restaurants make mistakes. Kitchens have off nights. What separates exceptional restaurants from average ones is how they respond when something goes wrong. Unfortunately, Orchids failed at every opportunity to recover the experience. As someone who has enjoyed dining at Orchids for years, this was incredibly disappointing. I left hungry, frustrated, and feeling like our loyalty as returning guests meant very little. I expected far better from a restaurant with Orchids' reputation, and sadly, this experience fell far short of the standard I have always associated with it. Do better. Period. read more

My husband and I had the breakfast buffet at Halekulani's Orchid Restaurant. We arrived about 15 minutes early, however we got seated right away. We were guided to a table with an ocean view with the host calling us by our name. The waiter arrived instantly, greeted us by name and taking our order for our drinks. He also dropped off some chopsticks, jokingly mentioning that it's for the sashimi. Wow, sashimi! Off to the buffet we went. This is one of the nicest and well laid out buffet area. My husband stood in line for his favorite omelet. My favorite was the roasted pig. My husband's second round included some seafood and some nice pieces of sashimi and sushi. There was a good variety of desserts. We both like the chocolate cookie with a thin layer of ice cream and their signature coconut haupia cake. The food quality was totally outstanding! It was an awesome, memorable experience and upon leaving we wanted to make reservations for Mother's Day to include our family. We were informed that they were all booked with a waiting list of 300 people. Aaww :( Upon returning home and since we knew we couldn't get Mother's Day, we immediately called to make reservations for Father's Day which luckily we were able to get. Although, the price was still not determined and it runs a bit high, the Sunday Brunch is definitely a great experience for the family! read more

My wife and I hadn't been here for about 7 or 8 years, so we were really looking forward to our recent dining experience. WOW, the place has really changed, and not for the better. We came for brunch. Because of those high prices, we were expecting something really good. Unfortunately it was very disappointing. The setup is a buffet, and all the food was very picked over and poorly presented. The appearance of the VERY BASIC sushi items was so poor that we were afraid to even try them. One of the cheese offerings had mold on it. We stood in line for almost 10 minutes waiting for the "egg bar" to make us simple scrambled eggs. As another reviewer said, if you want a good breakfast, DO NOT COME HERE, go to McDonald's or Denny's instead. And with the money you save, you'll have enough money left over to pay for your breakfasts the rest of the year. Also it should be mentioned that the server we had was slow, very unprofessional, and rushed. She tried to make annoying small talk with us while we were eating. Servers should always know NOT to interrupt dining guests while they are trying to eat. Also, her appearance was poor and unkempt. The ONLY thing nice about this place is the view. But is it worth paying this kind of money for just the view? No. We will never return. Very sad. We used to enjoy this place. It's really gone downhill. read more

I had a job interview and the manager was the biggest class-less asshole I ever met. Some snotty Asian named Steve..Stephan whatever. Made me wait 30min too cause he was in an "important" meeting and then wasted my time with a pointless interview. It was very obvious he didn't like me and would never give me a chance before he even met me. Guess cause I worked at a sex shop and his wife got more pleasure from my store than from his 3in wonder. Who knows. I think he actually believed his restaurant is more expensive than the rest. It was nice looking and the food I'm sure was unoriginal and over priced. He reminded me of an insecure loser who needs to talk about money and stuff. At least I know why the job listing was up for the past 6 months. It's sad to see such nice places run by such stuck-up judgmental TRASH. Just another reminder that aloha and respect are dead on this haole hating, asian loving island. read more

Great food, stunning views, and exceptional service! Orchid delivered excellent food and beautiful ambiance during our two visits. The scenery is breathtaking, especially at sunset - perfect for photos. What made our experience truly memorable was our server Daniel (the 52-year-old who looks 30 with the energy of a 20-year-old!). He was friendly, funny, attentive, and even took great photos for us. His genuine warmth and enthusiasm made us feel like we were dining with a friend rather than just being served. I could easily picture hanging out with this guy - he's that kind of genuine, good-hearted person you don't meet often. The food and views would be reason enough to return, but Daniel elevated our entire experience. The service was great, but I have to give it 1 star because I asked to sit outside with an ocean view for sunset and got stuck inside between two pillars. I arrived at 6:10, and the hostess wasn't even there--when she finally showed up, I got a text saying our table was ready just 90 seconds later. Not cool. The food was mostly good, except for the lobster bisque, which was awful--barely any lobster and bad flavor. That took off three stars. The fourth star was for the outrageous $600 bill for two people. We came here to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary, but I probably won't be back. The server and staff were awesome, but the seating debacle really put a damper on things. I'd recommend Michel's at the Colony Surf for a better atmosphere and service that pays attention to your requests. read more

Our anniversary dinner at Orchids in Waikiki was nothing short of spectacular, thanks to the exceptional service provided by Marcus. He went above and beyond, making our evening unforgettable. The food was outstanding--my wife had the chef's lasagnette, a dish with a heartwarming backstory, as it's a recipe from the chef's grandma with a unique twist from his Mexican wife, who suggested adding avocado. I had the Spanish pata negra pig, which Marcus described so perfectly that it heightened the anticipation, and the dish did not disappoint. Orchids had a really mixed experience for me. The crab was frozen, the pork came out dry, and the service was just fine, nothing memorable either way. That said, the brisket was excellent and easily the highlight of the meal. The sushi station was phenomenal and definitely the part of the buffet that felt most worth coming back for. Wow! my new roomates brought me here yesterday for the sunday brunch to celebrate my move to hawaii and i was completly blown away. granted, i didn't pay :) but if i had that kind of loot (soon!) i would dish it out in an instant to eat here again. hell the prime rib, roasted pig and cakes are worth the money alone. At the Halekulani Hotel in Honolulu, there's this amazing spot called Orchid. It's a gorgeous restaurant with the Pacific Ocean right in the background. I stopped by for breakfast, and wow... it was delicious! Justin was super nice and really attentive to us. He even took some great photos to remember the experience.
