It is a small little grocery store but really packed with Indonesian and IndoDutch-era goodies. Various candies, crackers, snacks, sambal/chili, bumbu/spices, instant noodles, cheese wheels, etc. They also have prepared homemade (typically frozen) to-go food that Indo cooks in the area consign, such as nasi kuning, ayam bakar, lemper, sayur asem, etc. One thing that I always have to buy whenever I visit this place is one whole box (24 qty) of Teh Botol or Teh Kotak. Owner is always friendly and helpful if you have questions about things. Definitely worth a visit to check them out if you haven't been yet. read more

I absolutely love this store! I've been coming here on and off for the past 20 years. This store specializes in Dutch and Indonesian imported foods which is what I grew up with, both of my parents are Dutch Indonesian. They sell everything from snacks, candies, spices, soups, condiments, frozen savory treats, Dutch souvenirs, to Indonesian food to go. At the moment, the two dishes they are selling to go are Bami (noodles) and Nasi (fried rice). I like to buy my Dutch soups, frites sauce, sambals, and Indo seasonings here. Just recently bought Shanghai kacang, frozen homemade lemper (10 for $30) , pandan essence, and Fruit-tella candy- all good things that bring me back to my childhood. Shelves are well stocked! I feel the assortment of goodies that are on the shelves for sale have gotten better and better over the years. This is a locally owned business and it's so nice to see the same friendly owners still there after so many years. I came here with my husband because I was in search of "Indonesian foods." It turned out to be a cute little mom and pop shop that sells lots of Indonesian and Dutch goods. The goods range from snack items to foods and spices. The prices are reasonable/inexpensive. I was able to purchase a layered cake that I haven't had since my relatives from Indonesia visited when I was a kid. I saw the reviews about the food, but didn't realize that it was take-out only. I'll definitely have to come back to try the foods and to pick up other snacks (perhaps the little pineapple cakes or the milk chocolate sprinkles...yum!). read more

Ori deli has been around since I was a kid. I have a lot of fond memories getting many hard to find Dutch and Indonesian treats my family so loved. I recently went back to find the same owner Mr. Tan still taking pride running this legacy speciality shop. There's wonderful Indonesian spices, krupuk udang(shrimp chips),and my personal favorite, chicken lemper(which I brought frozen to cook at home). Among other things, there's a large variety of Dutch soups, spices, sprinkles and the best variety of Dutch licorice I've come across locally. I remember shopping at Ori-Deli when Robert had the store in Mountain View near Grant and El Camino back in the 80s. He's got the most amazing selection of Dutch and Indonesian groceries and goodies and the kitchen is open again so you can order some of your favorite staples like nasi goreng and bahmi goreng. At the beginning of the Christmas season the store is overflowing with a lot of Dutch goodies. We are so lucky to have this store nearby in the Bay Area because it's only place that I know of where Dutchmen and Indonesians can get their fix. Robert's getting up there, but he keeps on going, and I'm sure glad that the store is still running and fully stocked. I can't say enough good things about this store and I just ordered my two favorite dishes which is about all he offers now ( nasi and bahmi goreng) and they were outstanding and reasonably priced. I buy a lot of licorice, and chocolate, cookies, and Indonesian cooking items. It's awesome. I just heard about this place from a friend on Friday, and decided to go on the following Saturday. I felt really happy when I saw the place. It reminded me alot about small stores back home in Indonesia. What's interesting about this place is that the owners are really nice, and they always have food preorders that we can order. Lovely little shop! I went in looking for tempeh (a miracle protein for people with high cholesterol!) and I went out with so much more! I found some great Indonesian dishes spice mixes and also condiments! There was a great mix of Dutch and Indonesian treats! This is the only place that I found has so many option of Indonesian snacks. There are some snacks from Netherland too. The Owner (husband & wife) are very friendly. When I went here, there was a Chicken Noodle Soup. They said they do this once a month, selling hot food. This place used to be restaurant. When I walked into the supermarket I noticed the food was to-go only. They had about 8-10 options with a picture for each item. They no longer have the rice plates I was excited to try. However, the lady recommended we try the rice which was wrapped in leaves. That was delicious! When you buy it, it comes frozen so just bring it home and heat it up! I'm very picky about my comfort food on cold days. My cold day comfort foods consist of either Indonesian Food or Jewish Food (Matzo Ball Soup). My order: Nasi Goreng which is pan-fried rice with pork, shrimp, and chicken, served with mixed pickled vegetables and a large shrimp chip. Mihoen Goreng which is pan-fried rice noodles with pork, chicken and shrimp, topped with fried shallots. Saté - Two skewers of marinated pork barbecued and topped with a blended peanut sauce. and Indonesian Iced Coffee w/ condensed milk. All the above mentioned orders I get not spicy, SANS the SHRIMP/PEANUTS because well I'm ALLERGY GIRL :) you know I'm allergic to the world. I also like shopping here at their Indonesian-Dutch market. I picked up some spice cake, waffle-caramel cookies, mints, salty/sweet tamarind seeds and Indonesian Iced Coffee. Don't let this mom n pop scare you by the way it looks. Walking in you will probably be confused/surprised like me and my partner. It's a combo restaurant and Dutch Grocery store. The right side of the place is occupied by the grocery store and the left side sits the restaurant. Its the ultimate hole in the wall. The food is a no brainer. I am somewhat familiar with their food So I ordered the Nasi Goreng Ala Carte. It's the cubed beef. It came out really good. The meat was tender and the sauce was really tasty. We also tried the Nasi Lemak and the chicken satay. All very good. The food came out in average wait time of about 10-15 minutes. Not bad. The owner is a couple that opened the store about 30 years ago with about 6 help staff. The husband told me that most of his costumers are repeat ones. Apparently for a small place like that it is more expensive to maintain it at full speed than at his rate right now. Mainly for fun. We wandered off into the grocery section after our dinner and learned a few things about the Dutch cravings. ie: The Dutch really love LICORICE! It's licorice Mentos, licorice chocolate, licorice chocolate sprinkles and gawd so much more licorice stuff. We ended up buying about $70 worth of chocolates and sauce for my cooking experiment. A bit hit and miss with this Indonesian grocery store. Located next to liquor store, this grocery store carries Dutch and Indonesian products ranging from snacks, spices, rice, noodle, cheese, (they don't have fresh produce, though, like milk, egg, vegetable). Every two weeks on Sunday, the owner collaborates with Indonesian cooks to sell Indonesian noodle and other Indonesian delicacy freshly homemade. Why did I write hit and miss? Because you need to read the expiration date on the grocery product you would like to buy. Unfortunately, they need to keep up with their quality control. Other than that, they almost carry the latest Indonesian snacks and products. Will always going back to this store, even though I have to check the expiration dates on each item. read more

Today I felt very disrespected by the Owner & his privileged customer. My husband and I have been shopping here for over a year and we spend good money in this establishment. The Owner was in the middle of ringing me up and this lady stood next to me practically moving me out of the way, while shoving $10 in the Owners face to assist her as if WE weren't in the middle of a transaction. I was dumbfounded to say the least. She had 2 items that came out to $5.00 and her I am driving from the East-bay spending a total of $185.00. I just knew he was going to tell the pushy old lady that he will be with her after he was done ringing me up. He did the complete opposite! He stopped ringing me up to assist her with her purchase. I kept my composure...surprisingly! I made the decision never to patronize this business. He just lost a loyal customer due to lack of respect, common courtesy and poor customer service! read more

A hole-in-the-wall store run by a very friendly, jovial man. I drove 40 miles there to get authentic sambal because we wanted to try cooking Malaysian cuisine. Holy cow, they had an entire wall of sambal. And the prices were so reasonable. They helped me pick out a couple of jars that were appropriate for stir fry and fish. Nasi rames: steamed rice, rendang (beef), tofu-bamboo shoots-green beans in coconut milk, serundeng (sweet toasted shredded coconut), crispy sweet potato, 2 chicken sate, chips and pickled cucumber. I had never been into an Indonesian/Dutch market before, and I had a very nice time looking at everything and picking out a lot of really cool items. Just ask Robert for typical Javanese Fried rice (with "a bit kick") and a bit burned (fry a bit longer). As Indonesian, I always ask with Sator/pete. Only as take out now. You can buy Dutch licorice (from Mentos Licorice and mint licorice for those like mild licorice to double salt drop) to varieties of Speculaas and breakfast cake & rusk and yes, Stroopwafel. Also refreshing Cassis drink esp during coming Summer and as usual Chocolate letters from October to December (yes still left over available now) A bit more complete Indonesian seasoning pastes (Munik, cap Ibu, Bambu & Pazaar, IndoFood) and Yes, ready to eat Shrimp cracker/kroepoek, emping/melinjo and of course you can buy Finna brand Classic shrimp cracker (65% shrimp) so you can fry at home.
