This bakery is a gem and a definite must-visit if you are Gluten Free! We are so used to skipping breads and desserts on trips, and it felt fun and indulgent to be able to eat anything in the bakery--and I wish we could have tried everything! Over the course of two visits, we had the sourdough (white and whole grain), a ginger chocolate cookie, a peanut butter chocolate chip cookie, an eclair, a baguette, a baguette sandwich, and a carrot cupcake. Everything was great, but we thought the breads were a bit tastier than the sweet baked goods, which was interesting because the opposite is often true in GF baking. Our favorites were the sourdough, the baguette (and sandwich), and the ginger cookie. We brought the sandwich and eclair down to clover park beach--perfect little bite to have on the shore! The facility is completely gluten free which is great. The flavors of the food we tried were also wonderful. I think it's worth a visit. Had to take off a star because the signs in front of certain items were not what that item actually was and the person servicing us had some english language limitations so asking ingredient questions took a little patience but she was very nice and made the attempt to help. While the food is good, and safe for a celiac like me, the staff are consistently belligerent and rude, unhelpful and unfriendly. I highly suggest that the owner trains them to do better, because as the face of the business, they're killing it. read more

My aunt bought me a delightful assortment from this bakery when I came to visit her. Since having to cut gluten from my diet, I really haven't eaten many baked goods because I haven't enjoyed much of what's available. This bakery has changed all that! I have loved every single item I have tried. So far I've had two different cupcakes, gingerbread cookies, and some small cake squares (not entirely sure what they're called). There was no gritty or gummy texture I've come to expect from gluten-free baked goods and everything tasted just as good as any gluten-filled counterpart I used to eat. Although they offered a large variety of gluten-free baked goods, and the items I purchased were very good, the service was less than desirable. They seemed to not have time for us even though we were the only customers present. Without turning around to look at us we were instructed in a sharp tone to let them know when we were ready. Neither employee bothered to greet us or look in our direction. They were impatient and didn't seem to want to give us information on menu items when we asked. I wanted an iced tea but they said they didn't make iced drinks, only hot. We found out later that two cookies we paid for were missing from our bag. Being from out of town we were back on the road and couldn't go back to retrieve them. I could go on, but needless to say they were very rude. Such a disappointment. read more

Unfortunately this place has goes downhill. Very expensive for bread,and the bread wasn't very good. You can't depend on bread being delivered on time either. Their baked goods are just okay. I had the exact same experience as Beth B. Lovely array of baked goods, but the tension from the staff was so thick you could cut it with a knife. I thought maybe the two of them had just had a smack-down argument but it looks from Beth's review like it's a pattern. For the manager: it was shortly after 8 in the morning, the two staff were a tallish white woman and a man from somewhere like India. I can't believe it's not gluten! This is an amazing bakery for so many reasons. Wholesome ingredients. Ridiculously delicious goods. They recycle or compost everything - it's a garbage-free bakery. And everything they make is gluten-free. The entire place! Even though they are not using any wheat, the baked goods here easily rival any "regular" bakery in town. Oh wow wow wow! My mom and I are gluten free, visiting from San Francisco. We made a pilgrimage to Origin from our downtown hotel and it was so worth the walk! For lunch, the Strata is fantastic. The Focaccia sandwich is a little small (ie, you get more food with the Strata), but also delicious. Cupcakes are amazing. Chocolate with candied orange buttercream frosting? To die for! We got pumpkin spice muffins to eat for breakfast tomorrow and I can't wait. I'm bad at counting Canadian money, but I think the cashier might have given us too much change (sorry!). Four stars for amazing tarts, pie crusts, cupcakes, almond slice (!), biscotti, quiche... But, please, someone's got to do something about the muffins - all I can taste besides the sweet something-or-other on the top is baking soda. Yummy top and rest is YUCK and not worth getting. I enjoyed the gluten animal crackers thoroughly. My parents, however, thought they were hard and dry. They were, but I am under the understanding that that is how animal crackers are supposed to be, so I was fine with it. They were lemony, but could have used a tad more lemon. The blackberry cupcake (I forgot the exact name) was on a chiffon (white) cupcake base. The blackberries tasted very good, they must have been fresh. The cream on top didn't really have a taste, but it was sweet enough for me and my father. The cupcake itself was dry and crumbly. The cupcake had no flavor by itself, and it had to rely on the blackberries and cream to give it a flavor. It stuck to the roof of my mouth, and it was chalky. The cupcake was cold due to being kept in a freezer/fridge, so I'm not sure if the cold dried it out or if it was dry before hand. The lemon meringue cheesecake was doughy tasting. The lemon flavor was off, and the lemon custard was just alright. The meringue on top was marshmallow-like. The crust on the bottom didn't stick to the cheesecake very well, and it was very crumbly. The presentation on both was appealing. The service was nice, and they were there to answer questions. read more

I'm 83 years old @ celiac. For 2 mos, I've been going to Origin Bakery on Pandora to buy bread & rolls. Today, I had a terrible experience. I preordered 10 sandwich rolls. A woman I'd never seen said no rolls were put aside. She went out back to a tray and bagged 10 rolls. I asked for a spring loaf. She said she might have something for me, went out back, and said she had one. When I got home & looked in the bag, I had 10 burnt rolls with cement hard crusts & a 1 month old frozen loaf. I was shocked. I went back to the store to return the goods & was treated very badly by the same woman, who said she was the manager. In my day, the customer was always right, & people treated the elderly with respect. Also, there were perfectly good sandwich rolls on the rack in the front. Why didn't she give me those instead of giving me the burnt ones? read more

I just love Origin! Both locations are fantastic. The food is unbelievably good. There's not a single thing there that I don't like (other than anything with sorghum flour in it, but that's my problem, not theirs!). The staff is great. Friendly and knowledgeable. I would normally praise this bakery, being the only fully GF bakery in the city. I have visited many times, and dropped a pretty penny to enjoy their goodies. This review however, is for a custom order that was placed. My husband placed a custom order weeks in advance for my birthday cake. This was my one request for my birthday. He made sure to call the closest location, provide all the details, and confirm the pick up date. After not hearing from them, he called to confirm pick up, to great disappointment. They had no record of his order - my birthday cake! He's pretty sure he was talking to the same women too. They offered 15% off some cupcakes if he wants to come in today, wohoo, ummm no. IMHO when you screw up on someone's birthday cake you offer to make it (albeit late) for free or provide a GC, or something of a more generous nature. Anyways, we're gonna make the most of it for my birthday, without them. But I don't care to give them my service anymore, sadly. And I certainly wouldn't count on them for any custom orders. If you do anyways I understand, just double check and triple check along the way, so your order doesn't get lost in the shuffle of disorganization this place apparently has! read more
