I had hot dogs and fries at Tracks this past Friday for the first time. The dog was excellent. I ran it through the garden and it came with sport peppers. The bun was steamed and soft and the fries were super hot and crispy. Excellent lunch. They remind me of old school dogs I would get in Chicago as a kid. I'll have to try their italian beef next time and see how it stacks up to Jay's italian beef in the city. read more

Not Quite It for Me I know Original Dog Tracks is considered a bit of a local staple in Barrington--right by the train tracks, lots of history--but for me, the experience was underwhelming. The place is really small, feels outdated, and honestly, didn't smell the freshest when I walked in. The atmosphere gave off more "hangout spot from decades ago" than anything inviting today. It may hold some nostalgic charm for longtime locals, but I personally wouldn't eat here, especially not on any regular basis. With so many great spots nearby, this one just doesn't make the cut for me. read more

I cannot recommend this place enough. This is a family owned business right in between Main Street and the High School. It's a cute little shack that sells Hot Dogs, fries, and a whole bunch of other stuff. The family that runs the business is so nice. They always greet me with a smile. I haven't tried everything on the menu, just the hot dogs and fries. But that's really all you need. The fries are really thick and salty; probably the best fries I've had. I have to stop myself from eating them all at once lol. It's a very small shop, it has indoor seating but also some chairs outside if you want some hot dogs in the sun. It's nothing fancy, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I love dog tracks. read more

Very kind staff and very good food. Most positive reviews raved on the fries, gyro, beef, burger, and shakes. The gyro was delicious. We also got a burger that was very good as well. The fries were a little too greasy for our tastes (everything was greasy but to each their own if that's good or bad). The milkshake (we got chocolate) was decent. Classic Chicago style hot dog/gyro spot. Good food. Fast customer service. Not a lot of room to sit and eat but I think that's how most of these type of restaurants are. Overall recommend trying it if you enjoy any of those classic chicago foods. read more

Got a burger here the second time being here. Even though I demolished it, I have to say it didn't seem to have a lot of flavor or color for that matter. To me, it looked like a turkey burger and if that's the case, that's not what I ordered. Kinda seemed like it was a frozen burger thrown on the grill. Another thing I notice is both times being here, the food has been cooked a little too fast (ready in less than 5 mins). Not sure, all I know is there's tastier burgers locally. Went here for a beef and oh boy was it tough. Took forever to get our food, and when we got it, it was a mess. Lukewarm at best, and worst of all it did not at all seem at all fresh. Felt like this place just wants to use old product as they don't care about taste. So many other good beef / hot dog places around. Will go elsewhere. read more

Stopped at Dog Tracks for lunch on Saturday. 7/16/22. I used a printed Entertainment "half -off" certificate, as I have been an Entertainment user for decades. I ordered the Maxwell Street Polish sausage. They served me the jumbo hot dog, which I ate in the car. I didn't feel like confronting them about being cheated on the order, so I let it go, but next time I will check the order when it is handed to me to see if is correct. The guy that handed me the order KNEW it was a hot dog and not a polish sausage! That is not the way to do business. read more

Dog tracks has gone back and forth in terms of owners, but I'd never gone until recently (despite the fact I grew up in Barrington and went to BHS). I love their Gyros, I get one almost every time I'm in. The fries are perfectly cooked and salted. My boyfriend loves getting the Chicago dog, and they make a great bacon cheese dog. I think that Dog Tracks manages to have great "fast food," well-cooked and seasoned. The people who work there are always incredibly nice and friendly. They do have a TV, but it's usually on Spanish language TV (this doesn't bother me). When there was a downed power line a week or two ago, the owner? reassured people that were not able to drive to their home due to police barricade, that yes, they could park at Dog Tracks. I believe the exact words were "We're closing in 10 minutes, don't worry about. Have a great night!" I think that it says a lot that they were letting people fill up their parking lot starting around 5, because these people didn't have anywhere else to park. Great food and great people?! I ordered the italian beef with fries. Kinda hard to screw that up, right? Watching the guy make my sandwich, no gloves, licking his fingers and taking the meat from the tongs and placing it on the bread. Finished off with a dirty cup of juice topped off on the beef that soaked into the bun and basically destroyed the bread... and the cheese, they kind from the can that you use for cheese fries. Burnt fries and flat Pepsi. I literally looked at the owner and showed him the tray of untouched food that went directly into the garbage. What's disturbing is the owner is watching me watch the guy lick his fingers as he is prepay my food. Finger prints on the front door glass, unkempt dining area, cheap condiments ( ketchup mustard) The place is a dump. No wonder the parking lot was completely empty at 12:40 on a Saturday afternoon. Nothing original about this place, I would have complained but they wouldn't have heard me over the mexican music blasting over the speaker. Spend a few dollars more are go to Portillo's. read more

First and last time I"ll eat there. Went with my two kids 10 & 11. Ive eaten at good hot dog stands and know good food. I felt sick after eating a hot dog with mustard and onions. I asked for easy onion and got extra onions. My daughter ordered a cheeseburger. Cheese wasnt even melted on. Son got a hot dog. I felt sick and my two kids did also. Really didnt care for mexican tv station playing. Its a hot dog stand not a mexican dining establishment. Frys were dropped in oil again to warm them up. Terrible Terrible Terrible. Hope this place closes down for good. We were on our way to the movies and thought would stop for a quick hot dog. On Saturdays they are open until 6:00 p.m.. We pulled up at 5:35 got out of our car and they locked the door and shut the open sign off and then shut the lights off to make sure that we would leave. The Dog Tracks has had a few owner changes recently. A while back when some new owners came in, the quality of hot dogs was the worst I have eaten. Trying to eat your way through the casing was impossible. No jumbo dogs, we were just given two smaller dogs instead. Not good. It appears that whoever is the now new owner is making nice changes to the exterior. I decided to give it a try after a long period of avoiding them. Haven't been there in a while. I had a taste for a bbq beef sandwich on a pita. I got back to my office to eat it and it is not real beef. It is the processed beef that you get at Arby's. If I wanted that kind of beef, I would of gone to Arby's. VERY disappointed!! I guess since they changed owners they now have processed beef. I have had beef there before and it was the real stuff. I have a co-worker who brings take-out from here. Always looked pretty good, so I decided to try it the other day. I ordered a cheeseburger and fries. No choice on cheese. Only one kind. They decided to serve me medium fries. That was my fault. I didn't know they had different sizes. Burger was $4.69, and the fries were $1.59 so the whole meal was $6.80 with tax. Got back to work, eagerly anticipating a yummy burger. I was disappointed. There was nothing particularly wrong with it, but not anything completely right, either. Kinda greasy, very flavorless. I added salt, but it didn't make much of a difference. Ate about half because I was hungry. Now to the fries. Nice portion (medium, remember) but they also needed salt. Didn't seem to matter how much I added, it didn't affect the taste. I ended up throwing them away. Normally, I would never throw French fries away, but these really weren't worth finishing. Everyone was very nice, and polite. But I won't be back. read more
