I am woefully behind in my review as it was cold & snowy when we ate there on January 11. I remember it well as we were 7 in all, great fun to be together in this sun-filled atmosphere. Walkers is just a treat, an absolute not miss! The coffee is served hot & strong, Chef & Team whip up amazingly tasty, hearty, filling, & delish food, & the servers bring it to you with smiles. My server (not Cedric, not Chris...) seemed genuinely pleased to be there. He's a total rock star! The team at the host/hostess stand were super nice as the restaurant was packed & 20'ish people were in the waiting area. Just order the apple pancake, even if you ordered another main. It's fab'! The atmosphere here looks quite nice with tall ceilings, a clean design, and good music (sounded like some motown and old classics). It's a diner but with a more modern touch. Given that it is in a really new building, it all lines up. The pancakes were good. They were fluffy and a little moist on the inside. When paired with just the syrup, it hits that pancake craving. They aren't the best pancakes I have had, but they are decent and will satisfy. The eggs Michael was a nice take on eggs benedict. The sausage added good flavor. The mushroom sauce on it was unique and delicious. I think it should be a standard on eggs benedict! I was happy that I was able to substitute biscuits for the english muffins that it usually comes on. They get bonus points for letting me do that. The waffle itself was okay, I didn't taste the apples too prominently, but that could be a better reason to order the giant apple pancake next time. I didn't order that special order since it would take about 25-30 minutes to cook. I'll definitely come again if I'm craving some breakfast diner food in a nice area. The original pancake house has a diner presence to the place. They specialize in pancakes and have many different flavors of pancakes, crepes, and waffles. It's a local Chicago chain and really enjoyed the food and the dining in experience here. Service was great and the prices were pretty reasonable as well. read more

As a native Chicagoan, born & raised on the south side, OPH was always a great staple. Haven't had it in years and then I saw it was moving to my hood on the floor level of the Hyatt Place Hotel, I got very excited. We don't have many "pure breakfast" places nearby so this is an amazing addition to the west loop. I have dined in and ordered takeout since its opening. The buttermilk pancakes are amazing and six come with it so you can share if there are two of you. I always get a side of pork sausage links with it for the sweet and savory factor. Fresh squeezed OJ is a must of course. Staff here is great and very welcoming. Just an FYI, it gets pretty busy after 8am on weekends but it moves pretty quick. There is outside seating available if you want to take advantage of the good weather while we still have it. read more

Breakfast options in Chicago can feel limited at times, but The Original Pancake House is always a reliable staple. I was excited to check out their new West Loop location on opening day (a Saturday, no less), and as expected, it was packed. The space is spacious, bright, and really cute. The staff was clearly swamped but worked diligently to get tables turned over quickly. Despite the busy crowd, service was friendly and attentive. Everyone at our table enjoyed their food -- the quality was exactly what you'd expect from OPH. Overall, I'm really happy to have a new location nearby. This place is conveniently located right beneath the Hyatt House - west loop so we thought to give it a try. No line and portions are huge! My coworker and I ordered one and each are half an omelette and we were already full. Didn't even touch the pancakes But the quality of the food was just ok. Disclaimer: We dined in during their 2nd or 3rd week of opening so they're still in this 'new' 'just-opened' phase. Expect long wait times to dine in and get food. I've had OPH in Minneapolis and loved the food. I was excited to see that there was now a location in the West Loop. I feel like the area was missing a breakfast spot, especially on the west side of the WL area. This place is nested right below the Hyatt House so it is a 'quieter' corner in terms of the 'restaurant area' in the WL, but it is drawing lots of folks in since there are a lot of residential homes in the area. We arrived Sunday around 11:45 AM and the wait time was about 15-20 minutes. They have outdoor seating which is great, especially if you want to bring your pup with. I will note: It was a bright and sunny day in August and I'm not sure if there is a bee hive nearby or if it is due to all of the flowers along the outdoor seating, but there were SO MANY bees!!! I felt really bad for everyone sitting outside because once their food came, there were about 20 bees swarming around the food. Even those sitting with their coffee and water still had about 4-5 bees around them. So...wouldn't recommend the outdoor seating unless you can deal with the bees or it's not a sunny and warm day. The space is fairly large and I enjoy how bright it is inside. The staff are really nice too and it is bustling inside. It took us about 40 minutes to get our food. We had a good conversation so it made time go by fast, but it is a pretty long wait! I think the table next to us arrived before us and unfortunately, we received our food 10 minutes before them and they seemed really upset. It looked like the manager was able to talk to them and the manager handled it really well, but again, service in the kitchen seems slow so be prepared to wait awhile (for now, hopefully). My partner got the corned beef skillet and I got the meat lovers plate. These come with your choice of pancakes or regular french toast - we did the chocolate chip and the strawberry. The pancakes are fluffy and delicious and the proteins were great! We also got a side of hashbrown potatoes which were okay. I wish they were crispier so this unfortunately was not my favorite. I also recommend getting the fresh squeezed orange juice as it is always my favorite item at OPH! Overall, I'd probably come back in a couple of months when they get a chance to improve service and operations! read more

previously have reviewed this place at 4-5 stars because it was so good!! last visit left a very sour taste in my mouth though. we were seated quickly and gave our orders. we were waiting on our food and realized it was taking a while as the table next to us who was seated at the same time had already ordered, gotten their food, and were finishing up their meal. over 30 minutes later, our waitress came back to us and said the kitchen had lost our ticket so she had to get our orders again. we did not get our food until nearly an hour after sitting down. while I totally understand a mistake of losing a ticket, we never received even a quick "sorry" from our waitress which I didn't love service-wise considering we waited so long for our food due to a mistake. disappointed with service, but food was still good. read more

Was walking by this place and had to go in. There was a short line, but honestly, it was worth the wait. The place looks like it has been recently renovated with modern touch to everything but really enjoy the ceramic mugs that they give their coffee and hot chocolate in. My partner opted in pancakes and they were delicious just the right amount of fluffiness and sweetness to them. I had the skillet and it was made just the way I like it. We came in as a group of four on a busy Labor Day morning and were told there would be a 10-minute wait--and that's exactly how long it took. Given how many people were coming in, we were impressed with how efficiently everything was running. Once we were seated, we placed our order and the food came out in about 10 to 15 minutes--not bad at all for such a busy day. Between the four of us, we had the Blueberry Pancakes, Steak Omelette, Corned Beef Hash and Eggs, Sausage and Eggs, and the Strawberry Crepe. Everything was delicious, and we all loved our meals. Our male server was fantastic--attentive, friendly, and even checked on us after we finished eating. It really made the experience even better. Had breakfast at this (relatively) new Original Pancake House location in the West Loop, and overall it was a fine experience -- nice atmosphere, attentive and friendly service, well-prepared and tasty food. My one issue: I ordered a Bacon Belgian Waffle ($16) that was described on the menu as "loaded with sugar cured bacon". Um, not really...while the waffle was a decent size and tasted great, I'd say it was standard waffle batter with a few crushed up bacon sprinkles. The bacon was barely discernible, and the waffle was nowhere near "loaded" with it. read more

We stopped in to check out the new pancake house. First of all, the design is beyond beautiful. The atmosphere, outdoor seating, and service is great. The manager greeted all guests at their table. I remembered her from another pancake house. Tish is a shining example of a professional, courteous, personable, genuinely kind person. Our server was excellent, though I can't remember his name. We were excited to try this new pancake house in our neighborhood. We were sat within the time estimated and our server was very friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, we waited over ONE HOUR for our food from the time of ordering. We asked the waitress several times and she said the kitchen was backed up. Another table of 4 got up and walked out after waiting 20 minutes. I asked for the manager to come over. She apologized for the wait but did not offer to take anything off the bill. She made excuses about them only being open 2 weeks and she has all new staff, which, of course I understand. However, she then said that when we come back, we should talk to the manager to ensure we have better service. When paying the bill, I expressed my disappointment that they didn't take anything off the bill and the hostess said sorry. I expressed again that we had spoke to the manager and she didn't offer anything so we won't be back. What's disappointing is that her responses put the problem back on us instead of doing the right thing and at least comp'ing one meal. Seems like the issue is the management, not the employees or the food so we won't be returning. read more
