I love Tommy's! When I first moved down to SoCal in 2001, my then boyfriend/now husband bought me my first Tommy's chili cheeseburger and chili cheese fries. I was in love. Over the decades we've been able to find Tommy's wherever we relocated. La Habra, Lake Forest, and now there's two near us - Westminster and Fountain Valley. This Fountain Valley location is preferred because there's hardly a line and service is really fast and accurate. I've never been inside, only in the drive thru. Our order has changed over the years. We used to be able to put away 2 chili cheeseburgers EACH ($6.45) and a chili cheese fries ($7.40). Now we're down to one burger each with the fries and we have to eat it in two sittings. But we still look forward to that delicious chili. I think the secret is they never wash the pot, so it just keeps adding to that rich meaty flavor. read more

When I returned, Lauren (the cashier with blue hair who took my order the night before) argued with me and insisted they would only remake the burgers--not the entire meal. That makes absolutely no sense. I paid for a complete meal, not just two burgers. By the next day, the fries were already gone. Why would I want to eat replacement burgers by themselves? The mistake was the restaurant's, yet I had to waste my own time, gas, and money driving back just to be offered a partial solution. Imagine if I had a mustard or pickle allergy. The receipt clearly said NO mustard and NO pickles, yet both burgers were made incorrectly. Instead of making things right with a refund or replacing the entire meal, they expected me to accept less than what I originally paid for. This experience showed a lack of attention to detail and poor customer service. Customers shouldn't have to argue over a restaurant fixing its own mistake. I'll be taking my business elsewhere. Growing up I had Tommy's back in the 90's and wanted to introduce this place to my kids. Such a let down from service and food itself. No flavor within their food. This location was small in the inside, the staff members were not engaged or friendly at all. The lines were so long, only had like one cashier in the front while everyone else was in the back area. I remember eating at a Tommy's back in the '80s before the internet is what it is today, I think I had a chili burger. But that's about all I remember. So I thought it was time to do a proper review on it for Yelp. This place was right across the street from the motel I was staying in, and my car was being worked on so I was basically trapped so I was kind of excited to go to Tommy's and try it out. Or did the quarter pound cheeseburger with grilled onions and grilled peppers, order fries and a diet Pepsi. Came to about $17 and change. Watched her make the fries, to be honest. They could have been a little more cooked but I get it. They have a timer on the fryer and they're sort of a slave to that. I got my food to go and walked back to the motel. Took the food out of the bag, the fries were nice and hot. Bit more, the burger was decent sized and very messy. To be honest, when I open the wrapper I was a bit taken aback because the burger looked like it had been crushed, now it was on the bottom of the bag with the fries sitting on top, but those fries were not that heavy to do that sort of damage to a burger. The Pepsi was basic, large Pepsi. Let's talk about taste, the burger had a good taste to it but I keep going back to how unattractive it looked. Looked. I mean come on people, we eat with our eyes first. I know it's a burger, but maybe having a little more pride in what it looks like would go a long way. I wonder if the bun was actually the last in the in the pile. The fries were were cooked but I probably should have ordered them extra crispy. Bottom line? I don't know if I would go back to a Tommy's based on what I've had today, the food seemed average at best, and nothing spectacular. I have been eating Tommy Burgers since the 80's. The first time was at the original location on Rampart. If I remember correctly, they only had chips back then and no fries. Today, I decided to take advantage of their current FB Special with the Chili Cheeseburger (hold the pickles) for $3.99 (normal price is $6.70). Good Chili Cheeseburger. If I was hungrier, I would have got an order of fries and requested extra chili (I believe the extra chili is free) on my burger so that I could have dipped the fries with the extra chili. If this place wasn't nostalgic and had a special going on the night I went the rating would be lower. First of the chili cheese fries were only $4 which was cool so bought a few, but the chili is greasy and the cheese doesn't melt for whatever reason. The chili dog I got was like 85% bun 15% hotdog, it wasn't very good. And the cashier in front, she was clocking back in from break which is fine but she took her sweet time doing it. I LOVE the Chili Tamale. I've had them from different places, but I always go to Tommy's bcz the chili is like none other ..... simply be best! This location is Fountain Valley. The staff is friendly & attentive. The acknowledge you when you enter even if there is a crowd. The ambience is simple with several tables (seats 4 max.). Plenty of napkins to go around, & I mean LARGE napkins (8"x11") when compared to fast food, quick service, & even sit down restaurants. My ONLY gripe is the price. Inflation hit everything. Tommy's is no exception. But the quality & taste remains the same, consistent blend of herbs & spices that made their chili famous in hamburgers, hot dogs, fries, & tamales. Tommy's is hands down one of my favorite fast food places to frequent when I'm in Cali! Not too frequently though because their food is definitely heavy and will make you gain weight just from staring at it. But there's something about their chili that's just different than other places. I've been going to Tommy's locations throughout Southern California since I was a kid and my order is always the same. Chili cheeseburger with chili, cheese and onions only. Then chili cheese fries on the side with added onions. I highly recommend if onions are your thing, but obviously omit them if you don't want to have strong onion breath for the next 24-48 hours. Service has always been good at this specific location. The drive thru can have a little bit of a wait depending on the day and time that you go but it's honestly worth it to me. Nothing can really compare to Tommys chili cheeseburger and chili cheese fries! It just hits the spot every time. I'll post pics with my review but be warned the fries I order is literally SMOTHERED in onions. It's on the cheese burger too but you can't see it as much. Highly recommend trying Tommys at least once in your life! You never know, it may be the best thing you've ever had. I know I've been a fan ever since I was a kid, and I still am! I typically like to come when I'm in the area and there's a nice deal for their chili dogs. Check their instagram to stay on top of discounted prices during annual celebrations and holidays! Life hack, order a bucket of chili here to save for the future and buy those 1.50 Costco hot dogs to your desired quantity when you feel like enjoying them again. All of the Tommy's we have been to are great. This one is no different. The food is just so wonderful. If you want a chili burger or chili dog, this is the place to go. The service is always nice, the place is kept so clean, the bathrooms are kept up. Now, if you want healthy food, this is not the place for you. Just as I was about to get on the freeway, I saw a Tommy's sign. You know I had to stop! Went with an order of chili cheese fries with onions. I saw inside when they were making them, they scooped fries out of the holder so that tells me that the fries weren't "just made". They threw on some cheese slices and then topped them with chili. Because the fries weren't piping hot the cheese didn't melt all the way....lame. I've been going to Tommy's probably longer than the drive thru cashier has been alive. I ordered two combos and a plain hot dog for my son. I only got one set of fries and went inside to let them know that I didn't get a set of fries. Then she told me with an attitude that she didn't charge me for the fries. Why would I order two combos if I didn't want fries?? She said next time I had to SAY I wanted two fries and two sodas. I've NEVER ordered a combo and expected to get just the soda. She was rude when she told me to go back to my car and get my wallet to pay from another set of fries. If I wasn't pregnant and craving Tommy's I would have left because she was so mean. I left crying. I told the other man working there to tell Jessica that she didn't have to be so mean. And no one apologized. Firstly I love Tommy's, and figured it be nothing less than good since I rarely eat fast food. I ordered my food through grub hub and it took about an 1 hour and 15 minutes...yes my food was lukewarm which wasn't an issue, but both my Tommy's classic burger and chilly burger were smashed like someone sat on it! There was no resemblance that I ordered two hamburgers, looked more like I ordered to smashed sandwiches. The bag that the GrubHub delivery person delivered was in perfect condition, no signs of being smashed, so this was clearly done through the person who made the burgers at Tommy's. The fry portion was ridiculously small and it looked like I was skimped on a lot of fries, never mind the fact it looked like I got the bottom of the fry basketleftovers. I figured my food was poorly prepared and tasted like it was because it was a GrubHub delivery and they did not care what condition they sent the food in. I rarely eat out and fast food as it is, but finding out I had a Tommy's near me that delivered through grub hub and I was close enough to get it was exciting , the condition of my food was nothing short of a disappointment...I would not recommend this Tommy's location. read more
