Was feeling sick so I stopped by Shabuya to max out on some iron and some hot soup to soothe my throat. I can always count on Shabuya to give me a great meal, but today especially I wanted to highlight my server, Vincent, who was super attentive to my party. He always ensured all our dishes came out timely, checked in often, and proactively filled our pots with more soup without us needing to ask. I had come in on a down day, feeling under the weather, but the attentiveness I received made my day feel all the much better. Other than this great service, all the appetizers were fresh and flavorful. Self serve bar was fully stocked and I was able to grab the variety of items I like to get with no issue. 10/10 will always come back, thanks for the great service!

I remember Shabuya being very popular 5 years ago. Haven't been here in a while and it's still good, but not as good as I remember. I will say it is great value for AYCE hotpot! The hotpot items seem very limited compared to other hotpot places. Missing some of my favorites such as quail eggs, kabocha squash, enoki mushroom... though they do have the best sauce bar situation. You can't really make a bad dipping sauce here. The Yuzu sauce and Goma are fantastic!! Meat quality was good but sides are limited as well - karaage chicken or fried gyoza! My conclusion is Shabuya offers limited variety with decent execution, but it is a bit boring in terms of AYCE selection. Host was super friendly and servers were attentive. Would only come back because someone else wants to eat here. Please bring back capsaicin extract.

The food was excellent. The beef, pork belly, and chicken were delicious. They have high quality beef here such as wagyu and beef toro. The meat may arrive thin and small, but will grow in size in the soup. So order the quantity carefully. The service was responsive. The ambiance is nice and it's a big location. It was a good Mother's Day for me.

I came here on a weekday for lunch since I wasn't working that day and the price is unbeatable! I have been going to Shabuya for years now and it's always been a classic and affordable ayce shabu spot. It is a huge space and I love that we each got our individual pots. I also like that you can mix the broths so l always get a combination of the spicy miso and the tonkatsu! It's the perfect richness and spice level for me. The meats melt in your mouth and my favorites are the beef toro and the flat iron steak! The lunch menu is a bit more limited, but still so worth it for the price. There's a huge bar in the center where you can get sauces, veggies, seafood, noodles, and everything else. They always do a good job of keeping the bar stocked with fresh items and the meats come out really fast. Loved it and would definitely recommend it! I take my family here and they enjoy it too.

I'm always up for trying a new shabu shabu restaurant, so some friends and I visited Shabuya for our weekly dinner. Shabuya is located at the end of a shopping center with plenty of parking. They do utilize a Yelp live waitlist which we took advantage of. I put us on the waitlist 15 minutes before our arrival, and we only had to wait a few minutes to be seated even though there were quite a few other people waiting. The inside is spacious with high ceilings. The booths and tables have good spacing, and everything was clean. There is a 1.5 hour dining limit. They have a good selection of five broths including original house, miso, spicy miso, tonkotsu, and sukiyaki. I always go with spicy miso and theirs is pretty mild. They have a good selection of meats including five types of beef, two types of pork, and chicken. The only meat they are missing from our regular shabu shabu place is lamb. The meats were very fresh, and our orders for more were delivered quickly. Empty trays were also removed promptly. I really liked the setup of their sides bar. Our regular place has veggies and noodles on one side, and eggs, seafood, etc on the other side and there is often a line on both sides when it is busy. Both sides here have mostly the same items, and even though the restaurant was pretty full, there was never a line on either side. There is also a sauce station on both ends of the bar, so again there was no wait. Everything was fresh, and most item containers were near full. Their Asian chili sauce is HOT, much hotter than our normal place. I'm glad I tried some of it before asking for hot drops to add to my broth. Our server Danny was awesome. He was very friendly and fun, and took excellent care of us. I hope we get him again the next time we visit. We all really enjoyed our meal here, and $29.99 for AYCE shabu shabu of this quality with great service is a good deal.

Decent Shabu place for $29.99. They have everything you would want for Shabu. The only thing missing for me was a peanut sauce but they had plenty other ones. Meat selection was okay. The Beef Toro and Pork Shoulder were our favorite. Service was good too. They forgot about is for a bit but we just called someone over to help us. Shabuya is a chain and I've been to some that were terrible. Luckily this location was great!

Very spacious interior with a self-serve sauce and side dish stand. Meat quality was okay, you pay for what you get as their lunch deal is quite good. My issue was getting gaslighted several times -- I had ordered the sukiyaki broth and let the server know he gave me the miso one instead. He then gave me a new broth and insisted it on being sukiyaki when it tasted like miso again. /: I ended up switching broths with my friend since we were too far into the meal to leave but won't be coming back.

For me this was a pass. I like the concept and the variety of broth options they offered but the quality of the food and the service were mediocre. The pork options were the best, with the beef lacking in flavor and even the "higher" quality beef option tasting very basic and not as tender as you'd expect. I very much disliked their low plate limit for meats. While I fully support having a limit it should be taken into account how many people are in the party. We had 7 people in our group and with each plate having about 4 thin slices of meat that was not the type of meal experience one wanted. At the same time the servers did not regularly check in on us to allow us an opportunity to order additional plates, we had to flag them down for most of our orders. This results in your group filling up more on the salad/noodle/hot foods bar and making it not as good of a value for your money. Overall I would pass on this spot and spend a little more for a higher quality spot

Used to be my go to hot pot place but haven't been in quite some time. Our server was amazing and super considerate. Meat and sauces were good, but their salad/seafood bar could use some more options since both sides were basically the same. Would come back for the price if I'm in the area

    Michael S.

Roseallday and the crew here are amazing. The food (broth, meats, seafood and veggies selections) blended together for an extremely enjoyable experience. Music playing, laughs and joy heard in the air. This place is awesome and can't wait to come back.

Came in with a 10 people group on a weekend. Go early and check in/make appt! Delish AYCE! You get your own personal broth pot to cook. Each meat plate has 4 slices of meat. What makes this place special is that they have clams, mussels, eggs(!!) and octopi at the veggie bar. Ponzu and yuzu are great to pair as refreshing sauces. Easy free parking in a shopping mall! The only concern is that we had to ask the server for tongs to pick up the raw meat(no cross contamination please), they weren't automatically given. Another negative at my table the burners were pretty slow to get to boil, the server said it's because I had tonkotsu flavor. Bonus: for birthday you can get a free drink (soda) if you let the server know!

We went to Shabuya and overall it was a really solid hot pot experience. We got seated super quickly, which was a great start. Everything is self-serve except for the meats, so you can move at your own pace and grab exactly what you want. The selection wasn't huge, but it was just enough to keep me happy without feeling overwhelming. Everything looked fresh, and I really liked that they had iced seafood, which made it feel cleaner and higher quality. For broth, we went with original and sukiyaki. The main difference was that the sukiyaki was a bit sweeter, which was nice for dipping meats and balancing out savory flavors, while the original stayed more clean and classic. We honestly went crazy with the meat; so many plates (as you can see in the pic). The meat was soft, tender, and really well-sliced. My favorite by far was #5, the prime flat iron steak; that one stood out the most. Super tender, great texture, and cooked perfectly in the broth. We also ordered the gyoza, which came fried and was actually really good: crispy on the outside and satisfying as a little side between hot pot rounds. Service was really quick, but you do have to flag down the waiters when you want more meat or help. they don't check in constantly. Once you get their attention though, they move fast. Overall, Shabuya was good, efficient, and satisfying; fresh ingredients, solid broths, great meat quality, and a smooth AYCE-style experience. Definitely a spot I'd come back to when I'm craving hot pot without the chaos.

With the weather starting to cool, it's the beginning of the hot pot season. Shabuya is an AYCE hot pot chain with locations in Las Vegas and Honolulu; however, this location is in Fountain Valley. For $21 for weekday lunch or $30 for dinner, you get all you can eat meat, seafood, and veggies, which is a pretty good value. Beef/pork quality is good, and seafood is self-serve, so I generally pass on that. I personally don't prefer seafood that's been sitting out indefinitely; however, I'll use a few pieces of shrimp and shrimp balls to fortify the flavors of my broth. When you put in your order for meat, each "plate" of meat has three to four paper thin slices; therefore, each person in your group will likely have to order several plates to get their fill. Sauces are what really allow you to create flavor bombs for your meat and veg; however, they have limited options for spice and acid, and the garlic and sauce bases are quite watery/thin. On the other hand, I do like the meats and the unlimited self-serve veggies, and I'll always leave here full and content. I think that Shabuya is an OK option for AYCE hot pot, it's a good value option for unlimited meat/seafood/vegetable, and it's a crowd pleaser. For a better experience, I'd prefer more flavor options in the sauce bar. Note that wait times can be considerably long for a large group, so check in for your group with your yelp app as soon as you can.

    Shabuya Reviews in Other Languages

    Ask the Community - Shabuya

Do you have special prices for SENIORS?

Hi, sorry for the late response. We don't offer senior discounts at the moment.

    How much for the regular?

The regular price for all-you-can-eat (AYCE) at Shabuya is typically $29.99 per person, though lunch specials may be available for a lower price, like $25.99. Prices can vary slightly by location and may also depend on the day of the week (weekday…

    How to make reservation?

You can try to call for a large party but, I don't think they really have reservations. Only waitlist on Yelp.

Is the a vegan broth option?

I believe the sukiyaki broth, the miso broth, and the water+dry kelp broth and the vegetarian broth are all vegetarian so there are several options. From the bar, there are plenty of veggie stuff - udon, ramen, multiple different types of tofu,…

Does 12/31 have lunch menu or it's holiday menu?

Swai fish or fish fillet available here? Or specifically, what are the fishes serve here?

I believe Swai fish for the hotpot :) I always always get it. No fried fish here.

How much is it for lunch or dinner?

It's actually 20.99 for lunch and 29.99 for Dinner. Kids between 40-50 inches are 10.99

Is this location the same as Shabuya in LA and Alhambra? The menu appears slightly different.

They are from the same company but different locations will have different menu options

Do you still have outdoor seating as mentioned on your yelp page?

Shabuya doesn't have outdoor seating! That was when covid was around so they don't do it anymore

We want to visit on Saturday April 27, at 5pm. We'll have a large party of 10. Can you accommodate that? How do I enter in Yelp?

I believe parties of 7 or more you have to call in or if you join through yelp you put 7+.

    Do they accept reservations?

No I don't believe they do however they have a Yelp waitlist

How do we contact you if when calling your store, it automatically hangs up?

Shabuya, Fountain Valley, phone service are currently down and it is unknown when they will get it fixed. The only way to ask questions is by going there physically and they are happy to help

    Do you sell gift cards?

    Yes! Shabuya sell gifts cards

What kind of sauce is served with the chicken karaage? Like what is in it?

There's different ones. One is like a spicy Mayo.

How do I contact the restaurant via phone? The number listed doesn't go through, and we're trying to make a reservation for a large party. Thanks!

From my understanding they do not accept reservations. But you can reserve your table via Yelp to get on the list. Or show up at open time to have a quick seating.

Can they do like noodles with garlic sauce?

This is not that kind of restaurant.

When is happy hour, and how much is it?

I don't think they have HH. They have lunch prices.

Do you still serve lunch, if so what is the price for that?

    I believe it's still 19.99

Do they only accept credit cards? Do they accept debit?

    I paid with debit

Honestly, I'm surprised this place isn't busier (I've been here a couple times at peak dining hours…read moreand it fills up but only one half of the space). The prices are INCREDIBLY reasonable for what you get. You'd honestly get a mid meal at Disneyland for the same price; you get a lot of bucks for your bang here. That said, I wouldn't come expecting the most complex or flavorful broths (favorites are the Tom Yum, Beef, Miso; save urself from the Cajun lol) --they're good, just not the standout feature. TBH the sauces really help make it even better too. I also can't speak too much to the quality of the meats or the rest of the menu from a connoisseur's perspective (I've definitely had worse elsewhere), but everything we ordered felt fresh, enjoyable, and nothing raised any serious concerns. For $23 for the limited all-you-can-eat menu--or around $30-something for the premium option--it's honestly hard to complain. There are definitely higher-end hot pot restaurants with higher quality ingredients, but they also cost significantly more, and I personally found the value here much better. I'd rather enjoy a satisfying all-you-can-eat experience than spend the same amount on a much smaller meal elsewhere. The restaurant is largely self-serve, so don't expect traditional full-service dining. I feel like most Asian restaurants these days are less serviced and it's not a deterrent to me lol. That said, the staff were really nice. We were greeted by a very sweet employee who walked us through using the ordering tablet and even gave us recommendations for building our dipping sauce at the sauce bar, which made the experience easy for first-timers. The space also looks like it could comfortably accommodate larger groups, making it a fun option for celebrations or gatherings. Overall, my partner and I left completely satisfied, and we'd happily come back.

They were able to accommodate our large party. They have 2 separate menus - regular and premium at a different price. Both sides of our table ordered the same 4broths. We tried each other's broths because we couldn't figure why ours was so so salty. We found that all our broths lacked consistency in flavor. Their tonkatsu broth was much saltier than ours. Our sukiyaki was more sweet than theirs, and our chicken was saltier than theirs. We had to cut our chicken broth with water to make it edible. When the server set our broths down, he didn't bother telling us which was which. I couldn't even stop him, he walked away so fast. Anytime I needed something like an extra bowl or scissors, flagging down a server was close to impossible. They all have tunnel vision it seems. I had to walk up to their server station and then they would just point over to a tub of plates and bowls and told me to just grab one. Weird. Our food options were ample and fresh, however the broths being so terrible made for a ruined dinner. Restaurant is still very clean and inviting. Service and food/broth consistency could really use improvement. Maybe they had a recent change of management? Whatever it is, the whole experience was quite different than my previous review. 2 stars for $3.00 beers.

I ended up with the Chinese herbal broth and it went nicely with the goma and ponzu dipping sauces. They have a self-serve bar for sauces, vegetables, raw seafood, and even sushi! The sushi was surprisingly good for an ayce shabu spot and there were 4-5 roll options to choose from. I love that each table has a screen to order drinks, appetizers, meats, and desserts because it made the whole dining experience run so seamlessly (especially for our large group) and we weren't left waiting for any food to come! The only downside is that the premium lunch option doesn't include wagyu, so I'll have to come back for dinner.

This sucked since when cooking the meat, you're forced to eat it with sauce or some type of dipping which I don't usually do. Service was fine, came by to grab the empty plates, immediately brought out our meat, and made sure we had water. As for the interior, it's really nice inside! Overall, I'd probably only go here for lunch but besides that, I'd go somewhere else.

They seated our party of five immediately. The service was impressively fast--they flip tables quickly and the food comes out in no time. Interior was clean, stylist and spacious. The food was fantastic across the board. My nephew had the Taiwanese pot and I got the Thai pot; both were amazing and packed with different meats, seafood, and veggies, offering rich, multi-layered flavors. My oldest sister tried the Miso pot, which was nicely mild. The portions are huge! My mother and other sister shared the garlic noodles and shaken beef, and I even got an extra order to go for my kids--the beef was perfectly seasoned and the noodles were super flavorful. Everything was generously portioned, delicious, and very reasonably priced. Highly recommend, and we will definitely be coming back!

It ended up being a bit slow, so they let me grab some seats at the bar area for 30 min. Once it was time to order - got the large beef toro plate (marinated) with spicy miso broth. Everything came pretty immediately and got started with cooking. The broth itself has a little bit of a kick but isn't overwhelming. Was a nice warm flavor. The beef toro was melt in your mouth delicious and there was def more than enough slices for me. Veggies are unlimited - so you can ask for more of any veggies. Price was pretty reasonable considering the amount and quality of meat. Was a good time and would come back!

I chose this location specifically for the larger seating area, but I should have listened to the other reviews about the service. Because literally look at the most recent reviews below me and they all mention the bad service! The Food: To be fair, the food itself was solid. I always get the Sukiyaki, and others in my group tried the Pork Broth, Spicy Pork Broth, and Spicy Sukiyaki. Everything tasted great. Wish we were offered the spicy drops, the spicy broth people in my group wanted more spice. But again no one checked in on us. We ordered the shareable size for the Toro and Mokkoji Cut, both marinated, which was the perfect amount for our group of five. The Service Nightmare: However, the experience was a complete letdown. It felt like the staff was entirely disengaged from our table. They brought out our bowls of broth, but didn't even tell us how to turn on the stoves; we had to sit there with cold food and eventually flag someone down just to get the burners working. Furthermore, four people in my party had never been to Mokkoji before, and the server didn't offer to explain the menu, answer questions about how Shabu-Shabu works, or provide a recommendation. Instead, the person who did help us was mumbling and seemed annoyed to be there. We weren't even told about the unlimited veggies, and we had to struggle just to get basic service. Thankfully I knew some of this information since I had been before. But it was particularly frustrating to watch the table next to us receive attentive care, they were offered "spicy drops" and provided with to-go boxes. While we couldn't even flag someone down for water or our check. It became clear that they were receiving VIP treatment because they were former employees, which made our own experience feel even more neglected Final Thoughts: I work in retail, so I'm always extra kind to service staff, so this service was just bad. I'm sad because I wanted this to be a great birthday dinner, but this location really missed the mark. We still tipped, but I wouldn't recommend this specific location. If you love shabu, go to a different branch. Or even a different restaurant because if this is how their brand operates, it is not worth it.

This garden grove location in particular is not as crowded as its other locations in OC but it's great since I don't usually have to wait in line :) I always get the Spicy Pork broth which is $5 extra but is well worth the price if you want a more rich and flavorful broth. The veggie bowls come with each order of meat and they're my second favorite part of the meal. My favorite part would be the meats themselves. They're so fresh and well-marinated and I love dipping them into the sauces they provide on the side. I would recommend my personal faves, the flat iron and toro. Additionally, the 2 times I've been here I've been given complimentary sake on the house. Though I'm not the biggest fan of sake, I appreciate a restaurant giving out complimentary drinks. It adds to a customer's overall experience :)

Post COVID, outdoor dining that actually welcomes your fur babies has become so incredibly rare that any spot doing it right deserves all the flowers. Mokkoji does it right. Our pups were so happy and so were we! Beyond the dog friendly outdoor setup, the food is genuinely great. The shabu soups are delicious and the variety here is really impressive. What I especially love is the constant veggie refills because you never feel like you're scrambling or rationing what's on the table. There's always something to add to your pot and the spread keeps things fun and interactive throughout the whole meal. The staff here are also wonderful and attentive, which just rounds out the whole experience perfectly. If you have a dog and love a good shabu situation, this is honestly your place. Places that still prioritize the outdoor dining experience and welcome four legged friends should be celebrated loudly, and Mokkoji absolutely earns that celebration!
