This was my first visit, and I expected so much more than what I got. Their set up is similar to Boudreaux's. You walk in, place your order, and then find your seat. The bar is a separate section, so you can head to the bar and place your drink order after you place your food order. You also have the option of placing your drink order with the waiter. I found it much faster for me to go to the bar and get my own drink. There were 5 of us and we sat on the patio. It was a Friday evening, after work, around 6:00. The crowd was moderate, so our food arrived fairly quickly. Between the five of us, we ordered crawfish, fried fish with french fries, oysters on the half shell, fondue and gumbo. Everything was delicious except the crawfish. I was highly disappointed in the crawfish. They seemed to be cooked in regular Louisiana Crawfish Boil, but they lacked flavor and spice. I could have done a better job at home in my kitchen. I might return for other items on the menu, because the food was delicious, but I will never eat crawfish here again. There are too many places in Houston that serve absolutely delicious crawfish. Nobody has time for mediocre crawfish. Please step it up Orleans Seafood Kitchen. Last year I ordered crawfish to go a few times and they were all good. Yesterday I went for lunch dine-in. Boudin links were good. Crawfish was really disappointing - I ordered 5 lbs, they were all tiny, there were a few dead ones, some are mushy which tasted like they had been in the pot overnight, a few heads with no tails attached and a ton of claws in the bottom. Definitely did not get 5 lbs worth of crawfish. read more

We ordered the seafood fondue with chips it was very watery had a awful taste to it so we sent that back nobody would eat it at the table. I ordered the fried alligator which came on top of french fries that wasn't stated on the menu. When the plate came out their was hardly any alligator the fries just made it look like a lot. Typically in Louisiana my fried alligator came with a Remoulade Sauce so when I was given tarter sauce I was definitely disappointed. I ordered the pasta st Charles it tasted like bologna?? The noodles were over cooked it was disgusting! My daughter ordered the kids Alfredo she wouldn't touch it so it was most definitely the way the noodles were flavored and cooked. The crawfish bisque had no flavor it was thick like gravy just flavorless. My mother in law ordered the jalapeño cornbread there was no jalapeños in it but she didn't complain too much once she put butter on it. She also ordered the dirty rice she highly enjoyed. I sent back my pasta and ordered the crawfish poboy it was very good the bread was so soft. If you're pregnant and craving this place i highly recommend do NOT get the pasta st charles my stomach is a wreck right now. The baby is not happy at all. I'm starting to feel sick. I ordered 2 dozen oysters for me and my wife. my wife had the catfish and shrimp. the fries was seasoned more than the catfish and shrimp. I ordered salmon with dirty rice and green beans, by the time I finished my oysters, my food was cold. the oysters were burnt. Everything just felt very rushed. I definitely won't be returning here. I have mixed feelings about the food. I got the order to go. I ordered a fried oyster poboy and a medium crawfish étouffée on rice. One was pretty awful, the other was great. Po boy was pretty terrible. Serving size was decent, but the oysters had no oyster flavor. All I could taste was the sauce and the breading, and the breading was really hard rather than crunchy or crispy. I would understand sogginess from taking it to-go, but no. It was more like an overcooked hardness. Oysters weren't very meaty, but could be because they were over cooked and dried up. I can't give a fair review of the fries which were soggy by the time i got them, but they seemed unremarkable in terms of flavor. The etouffee on the other hand was really good. Flavor was great, good amount of crawfish, lovely seafood taste. Decent serving size as well. I would come again for this, but I'd be weary about the fried dishes with cornmeal batter. read more

Orleans Seafood Kitchen reminds of Boudreaux's. Their Cajun flavors were strong, which I liked. When we arrived, we didn't make it in time for their happy hour. But, my family members made it. They said the happy hour margaritas and gumbo were just ok, and they did not think the seafood platter was worth the price. But, they did enjoy the crawfish étouffée. My sister and I ordered the Pasta St Charles. We both enjoyed the bold flavor and the creaminess of the dish. I'd call this more of a Cajun Alfredo pasta. The garlic bread accompaniment was so good! It tasted just like Texas toast. I will definitely be back to try the other items on their massive menu and their happy hour Hurricane drink, since this seems like a popular item there. read more

For myself since I'm allergic to shellfish, I ordered the grilled chicken that came with dirty rice, broccoli, and garlic bread but I subbed out the two sides and got mashed potatoes and onion rings with garlic bread instead. The chicken was flavored perfectly and was juicy. My mashed potatoes were so good--the gravy was excellent! The onion rings were fresh. You could tell that they cut up onions and breaded them in house, they were really good. The boudin balls were decent. I'm picky with boudin though so these weren't the best but definitely not bad at all. My friend got the half po boy with the cup of seafood gumbo. She really enjoyed it. We also ordered a side of jalapeño corn bread that we both LOVED. Their ranch, remoulade, and tartar sauce are all obviously in house made and are all delicious. I'm not a big fan of seafood (or I wasn't) but this place is great! I love how their food still tastes authentic unlike what you get at like Pappadeauxs. I've had the fried catfish and shrimp combo and more recently I tried the grilled salmon which was AMAZING! I was afraid it would be slimy but it wasn't. Everything was well seasoned without being salty. And their gumbo is now one of my top favorites! Decided to try them out while visiting the area and ordered through doordash.com. The delivery was on time and the food was hot and the fried foods were still nice and crunchy. The crawfish pistolette was good. Small appetizer portion with a reasonable amount of crawfish. The bread tasted fresh and had a nice toasted exterior with a soft inside soaking up the sauce. The alligator bites were very nice and hearty. More meat than breading was a treat. One area for improvement here is creating some sort of cherry mustard, honey mustard, or some other sweet sauce maybe for them. The breading has a slight spice which is just enough so a sweeter sauce would be a nice balance. Cocktail sauce with fried gator bites was not my cup of tea. The seafood platter was the main course and was very good. There is a good portion of crawfish tails, nice size catfish filet and three shrimp. The crawfish and catfish were cooked well. The shrimp was way overcooked making it chewy and not very good. BTW there are plenty of french fries as well with the seafood platter and the gator bites comes with fries as well. Dessert was the pecan pie which was very good! Cooked perfect, nice whole pecans on top with a thin bottom crust and thicker edge. Overall was a good sampling of foods they offer and will try them again on a future visit to the area. read more

Start of the football season and the Saints were on schedule, where else would you go to watch the game other than a place called Orlean's Seafood Kitchen? Anyways, I happened to be around Katy and a friend from the area suggested this place to watch the game even though both of us were cheering for the Vikings. It's in the middle of a super strip center that I swore just popped up since the last time I was in the area I think only the Pho place was up and running, now it has evereything including a Slicks. This place is a walk up and order kind of place, and they give you a buzzer and you refill your own drinks. I looked at their menu and didn't know which way to go so I just went with a sampler type plate. It came with shrimp etouffee and stuffed shrimp. The etouffee tasted like something from a can or frozen, the stuffed shrimp was delicious, however did this meal justify the cost? NOPE. Also 20 bucks, and not even on the level of pappadeaux. The other bad quality was the game. They have multiple big screen TVs throughout, but they had trouble with their feed, it kept cutting in and out throughout the game. I sat at a booth near a window because the bar area was full. The bar is not that large but after receiving the food, I don't think the drinks are the main attraction here. After indulging in a Shrimp Brochette, I was floored. The food was presented well (presentation is a must for me), tasted great and was well seasoned (not too salty as some creole dishes are). The prices are a little steep when you factor in that you have to get your own food and there are no wait staff. Overall, the restaurant was clean and the food was delicious. If you want a seat at the bar, be sure to get there early. This is not a cheap lunch so plan accordingly. Not a bad lunch spot if you have a fetish for seafood. I'd visit again. read more

I thought this place was a chain when I walked in. "Crap," I thought. "I wanted to go somewhere unique." Guess what? You are. Orleans Seafood Kitchen is -- at the time of this writing -- only located in Katy, TX, just a few minutes down the road for the only thing Katy is known for: The big goddamn mall. You walk in, grab a menu, and stand in line. Ordering is done at the counter, where you are handed a buzzer that will signal when your food is ready to be picked up. The service style is modeled after fast food. There are cooks, there are counter clerks, and there are bus boys -- everything else is self-service. Where fast food and Orleans Seafood differ is on the plate. Somewhere in the back is a deep fryer in desperate need for a vacation, because most -- I would wager 85 percent -- of the food ordered here is fried. I went with the Big Easy Platter, a smattering of their fried fishy fodder served on a bed of healthy french fries. I also ordered fried okra because my mother raised me right. I had wanted to order the crawfish, but the guy behind the counter told me they are out of season. This is a great sign! If crawfish are out of season, and someone is offering to cook them for you, don't pay for them. I am happy to see as bit of culinary integrity at the Orleans Seafood Kitchen. The okra was bomb. Perfectly crisp and paired well with a chipotle mayo/fry sauce goop. The second time my buzzer went off, I knew it was time to hit the Big Easy. "Oh, shit," was my first thought when I saw the mountain of fried madness waiting for me at the counter. This dish is meant to be shared, or it is meant to be eaten alone in shame. I opted for the latter, mowing down oysters, popcorn shrimp, fired shrimp and catfish with a tasty tartar sauce. I skipped the fries -- I am trying to eat healthy -- so I cannot vouch for them. They served as a garnish for me, prompting me to think of the beastly creature that is capable of wiping clean the Big Easy Platter. Such a creature is destined for a wheezing, sweaty and sluggish extinction. Was it good. Meh. Its about what you could find at any down-home, Southern-style steakhouse -- only there you would have someone refilling your drink and clearing your table.
