We came to Dr. Maag truly at the end of our rope--his hospital was the only one who would provide a reasonably priced emergency echo right away during a health crisis. This was followed by excellent care--Dr. Maag spent hours over the course of a year, figuring out the complex medication regime that would keep my little dog (born with a heart murmur) alive and happy. Dr Maag was very kind, smart, thoughtful and gentle both with my dog and the human that my dog brought with him. He was creative, competent and careful with his recommendations. He was collaborative, never pushy, and I felt like we made the hardest decisions together, taking into consideration all aspects and alternatives. My dog loved his staff and medical techs and they were so good at making a nervous doggie comfortable. I felt like both Dr. Maag and his staff were as sad as I was when we got to the end of a really good run with my dog. If your pet has a complex health condition and you want to be treated well and feel like you can trust your doctor and the staff, Animal Care Hospital is the place to bring your fur baby. A heartfelt THANK YOU!

I feel entirely comfortable with every vet and technician I meet--it's always clear they have thoroughly reviewed Coltrane's records before even walking into the examination room. During our appointment yesterday, vet tech Ana not only took incredible care of my pup, but she also patiently answered a handful of random questions I'd been saving up for our annual visit in August. Everyone on the staff is incredibly well-trained and knowledgeable. From a user standpoint, the technology is a game-changer. Being able to seamlessly schedule appointments through the app or get quick advice via virtual care--often saving us an unnecessary in-person trip--is a massive benefit. Vet care is a frequent topic of conversation among pet parents, and I always find myself recommending Modern Animal. While veterinary costs are high everywhere these days, the value here is unmatched compared to my previous vet. Having access to multiple locations across the Bay Area (especially crucial if an urgent issue pops up) combined with 24/7 virtual care makes it worth every penny. With their recent merger with Chewy--a company renowned for stellar customer service--I have high hopes that this exceptional level of care and community focus will continue. Highly recommend!

My feline companions also expressed discontent with the previous location. In contrast, my experience at the Walnut Creek location has been vastly different. My cats have developed a positive rapport with the staff here. Even my Kimber, who generally dislikes veterinary visits, is able to tolerate the staff. This is consistent with her personality, as she is affectionate at home and enjoys interacting with everyone, but experiences anxiety when placed in a crate and taken for a car ride, both of which she dislikes. My sweet girl fell ill and was diagnosed with kidney disease. The staff was exceptional throughout the entire experience and process of the passing of my beloved Joy. They demonstrated remarkable compassion and thoroughly explained each step. I cannot imagine navigating this difficult time without the staff's support.

Let me tell you about loyalty…read more Fourteen years. That's how long my dog Bella trusted Banfield. That's how long I trusted Banfield. And y'all fumbled her in the end. Everything was "fine" when she was young. Easy cases, routine visits, collect the check, keep it moving. But the moment Bella got old--when she actually needed real care, that's when the cracks showed. No, not cracks... the whole system collapsed. You suspected cancer of the tongue. You pushed a $300 test. I said yes because this is my dog, my family. Meanwhile, a specialist tells me that test can't even give real answers. But guess what? My money was already gone. Then you come back with, "Good news, no cancer!" Oh really? Because when I bring her back, after she sits in a crate ALL DAY, you hit me with: "Oh...the test is inconclusive." So what exactly was the good news? Because from where I'm standing, that was confusion wrapped in a bill. Fast forward. Bella is struggling. Constipated, uncomfortable, clearly declining. I call for help. And what do you recommend? Psilocybin. Yes. That psilocybin. Like I'm supposed to go pick up psychedelic mushrooms for my dying dog. I checked Target. CVS. Nothing. I call back, you double down. I go to a pharmacist, they look at me like I've lost my mind. Turns out you meant something like Metamucil. So now I'm grieving and fact-checking my vet? And let's talk about access, because every time I called, I'm sitting on hold for 20 minutes like I'm trying to win concert tickets. This is a veterinary office. Not a radio station. Now we get to the day. Bella's last day. I bring her in for a follow-up, and the front desk is asking me about dermatitis. Dermatitis? My dog is declining, and y'all are reading from the wrong script. Disorganized. Rude. Confused. No awareness of the moment. Then comes the hardest decision I've ever had to make. The vet recommends euthanasia. I say yes. And a few hours later, my 8-year-old daughter and I are saying goodbye to someone we loved for 14 years. We paid for keepsakes--her fur in vials. Something small to hold onto. They ask if we want to wait. We can't. We're shattered. We choose to have it mailed. Weeks go by. Nothing. So now, in the middle of grief, I have to chase you down. You say, "Oh, it's ready--but we can't mail it because it's breakable." So the option you gave me... was never actually an option? I go in--reluctantly--because the whole point was not having to come back. And what do I walk into? More confusion. They can't find the fur. They're looking for the card. The card isn't even in an envelope. Nothing is prepared. Nothing is handled with care. Nothing is handled with dignity. Nothing is handled like this was someone's family member. Let me tell you the difference. I canceled an appointment with Bella's ophthalmologist--a doctor who barely knew her--and told them she passed. Within a week, they sent a condolence card. They donated to University of California, Davis in her name. That's what compassion looks like. That's what professionalism looks like. Banfield? You had 14 years with Bella. And when it mattered most--you showed me exactly what that loyalty meant to you. Nothing. Banfield stinks.
