I took my 2010 Lexus RX350 in for a simple oil change and took my own Mobil 1 Full Synthetic and a high quality K&N filter, thinking it wouldn't cost more than $30 to change it and maybe 20 minutes because that's what a shop in Catalina quoted, but boy was I wrong. He told me it would take about a half hour to finish, so I thought ok, and I walked up to Fry's, had a coffee and came back 40 minutes later and it still wasn't done. Total time elapsed: 1 hour and 10 minutes before it was finished. But that wasn't the worst of it. He handed me a bill for nearly $50 for what takes any reasonable mechanic less than 15 minutes to do and after I provided my own oil. Then he tells me I need new front brakes, which I already knew, and handed me a quote of $250 just to turn the rotors and put in new pads. So I researched it and found out I could get brand new OEM rotors and pads for less than $200 and I found an honest mechanic who l installs them for less than $80. In the end I have much better quality and longer lasting brakes for only $30 more. I wouldn't have gone back there anyway just because of the ridiculous cost of changing the oil, but the brakes were the icing on the cake. read more

And the very helpful gentleman who's name I forgot to get, very thoroughly and kindly suggested a few issues that may be causing it and the symptoms they would cause, including advising me to first simply check for rocks stuck in the dust shield, as that can make lots of noise. This business is the most honest that I have ever encountered. Couldn't start my car even though I had purchased a new battery there a few days ago. Jeremy sent one of his men with a battery pack to start it. He got it started and drove it to the shop for diagnostic. Bottom line, it turned out that both remote keys needed new batteries. Fifteen bucks! They could have told me the starting system needed repair or replacement, kept the car for a couple of days, and presented me with a big bill when I picked up the car. We'd seen the reviews on this shop and had planned to use them next time we needed something done. The time came when my 2005 Subaru Forester died on Oracle Road. We had it towed to OV Auto and they diagnosed it and gave us a quote. It was the alternator. When we picked it up it had a strange whine, and Jeremy said to give it a few weeks and see if it stopped. When I took it back they installed a new alternator and no extra charge. I really liked their personnel, including Jeremys mother who was working the desk the day I had to call, and Jeremy is super to work with. I was impressed with the willingness to acknowledge the issue with the alternator, helpfulness of personnel, timeliness of repairs, and an overall sense that I was dealing with an honest, open business. I know people say these things all the time, but this really will be our go to auto repair from now on. read more

I had a great experience at Oro Valley Automotive. Jeremie performed a transmission test on a 2011 Lexus we own, and gave us a few options as to how to resolve our issue. One option was a referral to another company to buy a rebuilt transmission instead of getting a brand new one through him. He charged us a nominal fee to do the testing. As we always do with big expenditures, we proceeded to get a second opinion from a repair shop in Rancho Vistoso which we have used before. We were told by them that the system to test the transmission was not working in the car, and it would cost about $500 to do the testing manually. It seemed very strange to get that response when Jeremie had just ran the transmission test without issue. When I spoke to Jeremie about it, he told us to bring our car back to him to confirm the transmission test was working. IT DID. Jeremie did not even charge us for the second test. I do not like to accuse anyone, or any business of being dishonest, but there was a DEFINITE problem with the information provided by the shop in Rancho Vistoso. I would never go back there. I will bring my car repair business to Jeremie at OV Automotive, as we were very impressed with his knowledge and honesty. He easily earned our future business. read more

It is so nice to find a great Honest repair shop! 2nd time using OVA. 1st time as daughter #4s car. I'm pretty good fixing cars but this one had an Emissions gremlin. Very reasonable diagnosis cost and an honest opinion that it might not fix the issue for long. Car wasn't worth the cost. 2nd visit: daughter #3s car broke down about 8pm. Next morning went and talked to Jeremy. Got it towed to his shop. Diagnosed in about 2 hours and they stayed open late and fixed it that day. At a very reasonable price. Jeremy and his shop was highly recommended to me and as they were close, it looked like a good match. Personnel were all friendly however, the service on my auto was not ethical. Went in with a complaint that pretty much clearly spelled out fuel pump trouble. Got a tune up for $435 instead and was told that this should solve the problem. Had to have it towed back a week later at which time he did replace my fuel pump. Because of the problem reoccurring, he offered not to charge for the labor of putting the fuel pump in and only charged me another $310. Three months later- Fuel Pump went bad! This time he charged me for the labor to replace the bad pump he put in to begin with! And told me he was doing me a favor by only charging me $210. I think $955 and three trips to the shop (one with a tow truck) is a bit much to pay for a fuel pump. This is on a simple 1999 Ford 150. I will have my neighbor do it next time. I may have to wait for the weekend, BUT a lot cheaper, competent and less trips and trouble! These guys are RIP OFFS! Better check to make sure you aren't going back for more "good service" than what you need! read more

You can find slightly cheaper auto repair shops in town if you look hard enough, but they won't be as knowledgeable and honest as Jeremy. He is always up front and honest about the service my cars needed. A good mechanic that is honest and does the job right the first time is very valuable. I know a lot about cars and can tell very quickly if a shop is trying to rip me off. I will keep taking my car to Oro valley automotive as long as I live in Tucson. I'm glad I found them. read more

I'm an absolute fan of Oro Valley Automotive. Have been going there for many years, and have always gotten great service at (more than) reasonable prices. Have taken vehicles for particular issues elsewhere previously - (for example, front wheel alignment on a Toyota 4Wd pickup) and was told that it'd be over $1600 to rebuild the front end. Took it to Jeremy, who did the alignment for ~$40 (and caught some other minor things that they didn't). Felt so good, went out and bought new wheels and tires for the truck and still saved money! Jeremy and his crew are honest, knowledgable, fair, and just plain nice people! If I have more expensive repairs, I know they're needed and that I'm getting a fair price. If something doesn't need fixing, he'll tell you. I've been recommending Jeremy and Oro Valley Auto for years now, and everyone I've told that's since gone in to them have similar things to say - all positive experiences and feeling that they're honest and fair. Would have given these guys a good rating for quickly replacing my glow plugs and fuel filters on my '79 Mercedes 300sd, until as I was driving away I noticed that my blinkers weren't working anymore. I called them back and asked them why they went out when they were working just fine when my vehicle arrived and they wouldn't give me a straight answer. Now I had just thrown $310 at them so you can probably understand my frustrations, but when I had my mechanic buddy check my car out to see what was wrong he noticed that the wires connected to my flasher unit had been suspiciously disconnected. Now I can't say for absolute certainty that Oro Valley Automotive is to blame, but I won't be going back there anymore. That chain of events is incredibly shady to me. If you decide to get work done there I'd warn you to be careful and watch exactly what they are doing to your car, or you may end up leaving with more problems than you went there with. read more
