I live fairly close to Ortega's Market which is in a strip mall that has quite a few other businesses that I go into quite a bit. I don't know why the checkout girls are so rude. They literally don't respond when I say hello, nor s thank you. Honestly they barely look at me. I feel like I'm an inconvenience when I am being rung up. I've gotten good in the kettle cantina and they are very friendly and honestly the food is good. The employees in the butcher department are very nice snd helpful when I have questions. For us it's all about the Carnitas, roasted pearl onions/jalapeños. We buy a pound to make homemade tacos the night of purchase, then the leftovers serve as nibbles for several days. While I browsed the store a little, I primarily came for take out from the tacqueria in the market. I came by on a weekday around 11am. There is a nice group of tables in a seating area, with a coffee and an icee/slurpee machine. There are pictures over the counter to see what you're getting. Based on what interested me from other reviews, I ordered two al pastor tacos and a carnitas super burrito with no rice and jalapenos. Service was very friendly and fast. You can see them making everything right behind the counter. The deli case has various meats like carnitas and chili verde, so can you see exactly what you're ordering looks like. The bakery case is right next to the counter, so there is a lot to browse from donuts to cookies to breads to flans to cheesecakes. Drinks are along the back wall if you're looking to get something besides coffee or icee. Lots ot produce that looked good and a tempting aisle of spices and chilis that I will take time to browse sometime soon. I got my order in good time - they do make it fresh from the order, so don't expect to run out with your order in 30 seconds, browse around and relax. They have a great salsa bar to the left of the main deli case, so it's a great chance to sample their various salsas - but be warned that several of them are spicy. The two tacos were vary basic, with the very small tortilla's and some pico de gallo. They did provide a whole half of a lime and I love it, so I was happy about that. The al pastor was very good, tasty and smoky without being greasy. They made good 2-3 bite snacks, I would not have them as a main meal unless you eat very little. The carnitas in the burrito was amazing. It had the perfect texture, well cooked but not mushy. There were some pieces with deliciously roasted edges and the meat was moist without being greasy. There was a good amount of jalapenos and other toppings in the burrito. The beans were pinto and they were fine if unremarkable. About the only drawback for me was that I prefer black beans and they don't have those. Burrito was giant and heavy, I easily made two meals out of it. Super friendly, great ingredients like your grandmother would make and a good price point make this a great place to stop if you enjoy authentic Mexican food. read more

After PG&E shut off power to my neighborhood, I set out to find some ice. Many places were out of ice. This market had ice for sale. I get two bags of ice and go to the cashier. She rings up my two bags of ice. Two bags of ice = $7.00 I ask how that's possible. She says everyone wants ice, so now its $3.50 a bag. No one else has ice, she says. Best kept secret in Santa Rosa! The restaurant inside the market will give the best food truck a run for its money. The Super Burritos - I always order the Carne asada - are probably the best in town. Tacos are bomb and their soups will make you hurt yourself they're so good. The grocery store is amazing too. I've walked out with a few bags of produce for under $20 - It's one of my favorite places to shop and they always have great deals. read more

Ortega's Market is essentially a mini Mi Pueblo, not sure about the pricing but there's plenty of specials thruout the store. they carry the usual mexican groceries, produce, beers, groceries, fresh meats, and taqueria too. eats: 4 tacos/$5 -lenqua, asada, al pastor, carnitas either tender or overcooked meats -meats cooked to order, not premade -fan en vaso (2.99) -custard taste, watery, just so so, premade take outs:: -4 stars for value, 3 stars for execution -neat, clean store. read more

They do some nice burritos at Ortega's but I was even more impressed by their wonderful selection of pastries. Empanadas, turnovers, cinnamon rolls, pan dulce... and all only 95 cents! Huge dinner rolls are 3 for $1. I'll be back. read more

Ortegas has everything you need to make a Mexican meal. It's nice to be able to buy quantities by the pound, such as Cotija cheese and Crema, for those of us who don't use very much of these ingredients. A special gratitude to Lupe in produce who took her time to help me find my ingredients, even though she had been stocking vegetables. She was very friendly and patient. Great prices too. Excellent Mexican food! I will be returning soon for more tacos at Ortega's Market. OH, and to try the $17, 5lb Leo Burrito, but I'm going to need friends along for that... I ate here on a Wednesday afternoon, just a few weeks after the grand opening of the taqueria portion of this Hispanic market. I ordered 2 tacos (1 Chile Verde, 1 Carnitas) because I always gauge a taqueria by those 2 meats. Both were delicious!!! Also, refried beans and rice on the side. The cashier promptly gave me chips and homemade salsa, and my tacos were ready in minutes. I found the Chile Verde to be very fresh tasting, not as salty as some of the others I've tried. Also, very large, tender pieces of pork. The tortillas seemed a bit thicker than most, and tasted handmade instead of store bought! The Carnitas were also very tasty, and didn't have all of the fat you find in a lot of places; crispy and grizzle-free. And the rice and beans? I mixed them together, topped them with salsa, and dipped the chips in them... one of my favorites. It was the perfect amount of food, and I was more than satiated for $5. I had a late dinner that night! read more

I had lunch from this little market today. Overall it was pretty good. I'll definitely be back. I had the carne asada plate for $8. Very nice price. The carne asada was grilled perfectly and the jalapenos that it came with are some of the hottest I've had in years! The rice and beans that it came with were pretty good. They put lots of cheese on the refried beans. The chips were greasy, but tasty and seemed pretty fresh to me. The pico de gallo that came with the chips was very fresh and tasted great. I'll be back for some of that great looking carnitas and chicharrones. read more

Apparently anything can be cooked in a microwave. Or at least that's what I've learned from Ortegas. People look at me like I'm lost when I walk in there. Guess that's what happens when you're the only white person around. Every time you go, expect your food to be a little bit different. It's always edible but the sauces will vary on the enchiladas, etc. I don't like that the take out containers are styrofoam..and that they microwave your food in them. Other than the health risk associated with styrofoam, the food is good. read more

This review is for the tacqueria which is inside the market. I was on a mission to find the best al pastor in Santa Rosa, and this is it. These guys have the absolute best al pastor I've ever had! Not only is it great, but the prices are lower than any of the other taquerias in the area. I highly recommend them! I could live off that stuff. read more

My mom and aunt recently went in here and apparently due to CoVid19 this Ortega's Market decided not to honor they're weekly specials that we received in the mail. My Aunt talk to the owner and I guess they decided to end it early due to people stocking up. Wrong decision from the owners you could have limit the items people take but not raise the prices. We're all going through a tough time right now. Most of us are working limited hours or not working at all. I know you guys are a local business and will get an impact as well during this time but don't take advantage. read more

Tasty, cheap ($6.49 for a super burrito on "special") food. Not super fast during lunch, but worth the wait. "super" fillings could have been distributed better (got a big hunk of cheese in one bite), but nothing horrible. Clean seating area is in the middle of everything, but nice enough. This place was not bad at all. I came here to get Mexican Bread and Tamales both were really good. Not too many options on the bread part but enough to satisfy you. Def we'll be back for more Tamales next year! *I am not from here otherwise I'd go more often to try other stuff. read more

This is a great little market. We stop on Saturdays to get tomatillos, chilis and a rotisserie chicken for tamales. The chickens are fantastic. The produce is always fresh. Great little find. read more

some of their employees needs to improve customer service skills and review its policy return. Unhappy customers will never come back. A lot of choices with better customer service. I tried to exchange some bad produce before I drive away, and the cashier, so rude denied me the exchange arguing I made the damage to the product,i was in shock for what she said, it was very visible the produce was in bad condition before I choose it. Anyway iit was only 3.00 dollars putting in the garbage. and this experience totally changed my perception for that business. read more

This little market, tucked into a nondescript shopping plaza kitty corner from Whole Foods Market in Coddingtown, has the best prices on meat and vegetables around town. Their tomatoes are $0.69 a pound! They constantly stock mangos, papaya, plantain, and nopales - a better selection than G&G and that's my favorite. The meat department is fresh with all sorts of cuts and cheeses (although only a few varieties like Oaxaca and Cotija). The packaged food is fresh - cant buy tortillas if you are only two people though, they only come in Mexican party size (10+ people) but if you like to cook with authentic Mexican brands they stock them all. There's a really nice Mexican pastry section, if you've ever had real conchas this place has the best in town, and they are made in the store. I'd only suggest buying your vegetables for two to three days since they are fairly ripe and will spoil without all the pesticides of traditional big box markets. The food counter has the best food and best prices of any other Mexican market - and I've tried every single one in Rosa. Enjoy! read more
