Horrible. We bought a Cal King mattress 7 years ago and have already turned it in for a warranty replacement 2 times. My body feels twisted when I wake up, my chiropractor bills are adding up so they sent out a mattress inspector who said he sees the waves in the mattress. It feels like you are lying on a mountain in the center and can fall off into valley's on either side. The lady on the phone just said 1/4 on one side and 1/2 dip on the other isn't even close to needing to be replaced in less than 2 years! Then she said as we get older...blah blah. So at 40, the problem is not the mattress but my body? Please please please avoid this store and get yourself a quality mattress with decent customer service elsewhere. When I first came to Ortho Mattress, Miguel greeted me at door. He was a good sales person and understood that even though I might purchase a mattress today (over a year ago), I didn't want it delivered until my home was fully remodeled. A year passed by the next time I went back and Miriam was more than happy to help me out with the transaction Miguel started a year ago. Miriam was very professional and easy to work with. She was NOT PUSHY and made my mattress shopping experience fun. The mattress I originally wanted was discontinued, so she showed me other options. I had a great experience with Cris. I went to DC and slept in this hotel on a Tempur-pedic mattress and I was hooked. Looking at different stores I was so confused as to which type I should get. You ever buy a mattress and you hate it and you're stuck with it. Well I have so I was really on edge. Especially that the type of mattress I wanted is pricey. Miriam and I planned for a Friday delivery. She mentioned that someone will call you the night before and give me a four hour window. And that's what happened. The next day a clean truck showed up with two gentleman. They were in and out ASAP. And the men removed my old mattress and box spring. I'm a frugal person but I gave each one a $6 tip. By the end of the day on Friday, June 13th, 2014, we had filed complaints with the Attorney General's Office, the Better Business Bureau, the Department of Consumer Affairs Bureau of Home Furnishings and the Federal Trade Commission. We had also posted the above review on Yelp, and then posted the exact same review at www.ripoffreport.com, www.complaints.com, www.complaintsboard.com, and www.consumerwatchdog.org. The only reason I'm listing all of these websites is to inform other consumers of what resources are out there to help them if they find themselves in a similar situation with any business of any kind, not just this one. Other websites that we were also planning to post to, but didn't get around to it because of the busy Father's Day weekend, are: www.businessconsumeralliance.org, www.peopleclaim.com and www.pissedconsumer.com. UPDATE: 06/17/2014: The overall outcome on our end was that the entire transaction was cancelled and we returned the unopened mattress cover this morning. We ended up sleeping on the latex pillows with the pillow covers on them on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights (the 13th, 14th and 15th) and we really liked them, so when Ortho HQ posted here that they were willing to cancel the transaction and let us return all unopened items, we told them that we had decided to keep the pillows and pillow covers in exchange for our $200 deposit and we offered to pay the price difference for everything at it's REAL regular price, plus tax. When we went to the store this morning to return the mattress cover and pay the difference, Miriam was wonderful and she told us not to worry about paying anything else because she wanted us to leave the store with a good experience this time. That was nice of her because that was almost a $29 savings for us at the end of this experience. I have edited the previous review to remove some misunderstandings, but I am leaving the review itself in case someone else has the misfortune of encountering Miguel along the way. My husband and I will not be buying a new bed anywhere for a while. This was so mentally exhausting, we really just don't want to for a while. I will give some advice on buying pillows: it's been our experience that memory foam pillows are only good for a short time, no matter what the warranty, because after a while they remain sunken in and the support is gone completely or it will still hold the original shape but the firmness will disappear and it will sink too far when you lay on it and there will be no support for your neck and spine and you will wake up with the most unbelievable back pain you've ever had. We had the Walmart version of Ortho's contour foam pillow and we had the worst back pain of our lives for a long time until we figured out that it was the pillows more than anything that was causing our back pain. We ended up really liking the latex pillows we bought from Ortho, but the next time we get pillows we're getting a feather type pillow - some of them are as much as $129.99 or more at other furniture stores, but they are soooo worth the price. After reading mattress reviews for two weeks from all furniture stores and all brands of mattresses, my best advice on buying a new bed is BUNKIE BOARD (also spelled BUNKY BOARD). Innerspring mattresses have springs and box springs have springs. Imagine two springs stacked on top of each other...when you press down on the top of this stack, eventually one or both of the springs will slip out and that's where the problems start with sagging and noise. I highly recommend buying a bunky board to put under your mattress, in addition to or instead of the box springs (depending on how high you want your bed). This seems to be the best way to minimize or prevent sagging and to help prolong the life of your mattress. Of all the negative reviews I saw (even on mattress sets that cost more than $5,000), I never once saw a negative review where someone was using a bunky board under their mattress. It was always a problem with the mattress or the box springs and, most of the time, it was the box springs that was defective or had worn out too quickly. As for our final opinion of Ortho Mattress...if we had gone during the week and dealt with Miriam, then none of the bad things would have happened. When I was calling Ortho during the week last week, pretending to be a potential customer, she is the person I spoke with every time and she was very honest over the phone. The problems didn't start until after I brought up the fact that we were deliberately overcharged for pillows. I would recommend that if anyone wants to try this location, to please go Sunday thru Thursday and make sure you only deal with Miriam. The other two employees I dealt with over the weekend are little weasels and hopefully they have been fired by now. Thank for your help, Miriam. :) read more

My wife and I, newlyweds, went into Otrho Matress in Van Nuys "just to look". We were pleasantly welcomed by Miriam. After the greeting she inquired what our needs were. We told her we needed a firm bed. Miriam went on to show us the beds that she thought would fit our needs. We didn't specify what kind of bed, so she started with the innersprings and then to the memory foam mattresses. Since this was our first day searching we didn't want to impulse buy without the proper research. Well Miriam definitely knew her products and beside answering ALL my questions, a lot of questions there were, she also educated us on the new compounds of the bed materials, new technology in the inner springs along with new construction of the modern beds. We were invited to try any and all mattresses which we gladly did. We found or preferences and slowly one by one we deducted our choices buy filtering brands and price range and of course feeling and comfortability. As we were doing this she explained the differences of the warrantees of the makers and even threw in some company history. Like i said we were there to "just look", but my lovely wife found the bed of choice and promised to put me on the couch if we didn't get it! I never felt pressured by Miriam and she stepped away at the right time so we could talk it out. We were offered a deal that we could not refuse. Once the decision was made to purchase i asked about pillows and she showed us the best ones and we were offered a 2 for 1 special. We had a wonderful mattress buying experience and we were well educated on all products so our decision wasn't made in haste.
